control of message tones - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Is there a way of controlling the messasge tones better for SMS?
at the moment when a message comes in in doesnt matter what you do it plays the full message tone til the end and mine is a long ish one. In mid call if a text comes through it does the same and plays the entire tone in my ear whilst inm trying to talk .
I dont wanna disable message alerts just try make it like an ordinary phone when if a message comes through and you press a key then the tone stops instantly .
is there such a way ?

Is there a single button to silence the sound (from SMS or others)?

I've got a wav recording of my baby laughing as my SMS incoming message sound which is around 10seconds long.
In my old sony ericsson phone (ordinary phones), whenever I receive a message, I just press any button and it stops the sound. I love the longer sound but on certain occassions, like in my office, I would like to turn off the sound using a single button.
With the Kaiser, I tried to press all buttons but it can't be silenced right away. It has to play the recording until the end. My option is to go to the HTC home plugin / audio, then set it to silent mode, which may take a little longer, or I just try to cover the speaker with my hand. biggrin.gif
Would you know of any shortcuts to stopping the sound?
Thanks.
Have you tried moving the wheel on the left down-wards?
Thats what I do when my phone "rings" when someone calls... just knock the wheel down and it silences it
tried it, didn't work.
thanks..
Same here. I chose a song as my incoming SMS that was 3 minutes long. I had to go to the notification settings page to silence it.
Any help would be appreciated.
As the guy above said, scroll the wheel down a turn or two. That silences incoming call alerts.
(And a 3 minute song as a ringtone is not the best idea. Edit it down to 20 seconds)

That didn't work for me with SMS. I scrolled down, up and hit every button on the device and it still wouldn't work. I edited down to about 10 seconds. That's well long enough for an SMS.
same problem
I’ve the same problem with my tytn.....if I don’t have a long sound I don’t see a new sms or mms even if sometimes the short sound it’s better!
also I’ve tried all buttons but they wouldn't work!
So...if don’t have any hardware solution…could I have some chance for a software solution?
How about just leaving you phone on vibrate when at work instead of disturbing everyone around you
Easy solution to you problem and your coworkers will probably thank you for it...
Or you know, using Audacity to pare down the length of the sound file?
thx for the answers....
i work in a lonely room...and the song volume isn't a problem...but i leave the phone everywhere...so i would like to stop the music sound when i've find the phone and i've read the new message!

Disabling Sound Notifications While On A Phone Call

Is it possible with standard adjustments, or is there a need for a special app, to disable the beeping notifications I receive for upcoming calandar events and sound notifications for other then an incoming call while Iam trying to carry on a phone conversation? I find it very distracting and annoying to constantly hear beeps and chimes while Iam trying to carry on a conversation on my TYTN II!!
I do that with phoneAlarm, which lets me turn those chimes into short vibrations
Why don't you look at the Sounds & Notifications configuration located in the Personal folder? You can disable Notifications (reminders/alarms).
I still want to receive reminders/alarms, but not while Iam on a phone conversation and hear those sounds through the phone's ear piece. Is this possible?
stop notification sound while in call
ya me too i liek get this song playing why im on the phone when i get a message wtf haha anyone

Incoming Call notifications (call waiting) when on a call

Hey all...I probalby should know this as I have uses a PPC device for 2 years...but I don't remember having this issue on my last phone.
When I am on a call and get another coming in it consistently beeps/rings for the call waiting.
I have set my phone up to wait 30 seconds before going to voicemail (as I am not always around the phone). Because of this if I am in the middle of a conversation and get another call, I can't hear the other party (and am distracted myself) because my phone keeps ringing the other line for 30 seconds until the call is rejected.
When using MS Voice Command, I get the same thing with incoming announcements. If I am on the phone with Caller A and then Caller B calls, MSVC keeps saying "Incoming Call from Caller B."
I don't want to turn off Call Waiting, but I would like to change the notification so it is only a beep or something simple every 5-10 seconds and not a continuous ringing or talking.
Is the caller ID ring/tone able to be managed differently from the ring tone/announcement? What is the best way to manage this?
thanks
bumping to see if anyone has advice?
I have Same Problem With BlackStone and this annoying me so much
Any advice ?
PhoneAlarm has a setting to Vibrate for alerts while in a call.

[Q] Soft then Loud volume juimp in ringtones

I have a problem with my ringtone that is driving me nuts. When the ringer starts, it is very quiet for maybe a second or two and then suddenly goes to the full ringer volume. I would like it to start at the preset volume level and continie; i.e. get rid of the soft-then-loud and just keep the loud.
For additional background I used ringdroid to make a few ringtones from .mp3s. The original .mp3 and created ringtones created sound perfect played through a media player so it is not the files themselves rather something weird on the phone.
This is one of the last items for me in setting up my new system so please help!
You can't fix that. Its a standard Samsung thing that they do with all devices.. No way as of yet to get around it.
This is terrible! Isn't there a way to remove this setting? This is an Android device after all!
Fret not, my friend.
As there's no solution to the native ringing behavior, here's a workaround to help offset the first low ring by extending the time your phone rings before rolling over into voicemail.
1. On your phone, dial *#61# and click Send.
2. Some information should be displayed: number that the calls are being forwarded to and the delay before the forwarding engages.
3. Write down the number (including +1)
4. Dial **61*+1xxxyyyzzzz*11*30# and hit Send. +1xxxyyyzzzz is the number you wrote down previously, 30 is the delay in seconds. The delay can be set in 5 second increments, 30 is maximum
5. Dial *#61# to verify that the new settings are active.
Dialing *#61# as instruction 5 suggests told me that my phone forwards to voicemail after 30 seconds.
I will give this a try. Any explanation for why this works?

Its not that it changes the tone like he said. All this does is make your phone ring for a longer period of time. I think the default is 20 secs.. using the settings above you extend that time by 10 more secs of ringing which helps so you can catch the phone. You still aren't stopping the actual soft first ring.
Exactly. This used to be changeable only via AT&T until I discovered the procedure elsewhere. Helps alot.
Hmm. This is not quite what I was looking for; I want to hear the beginings of my ringtones! Does anyone know the exact time the ringtone is softened? I guess I could use an .mp3 editor and bad nothingness to the beginning...
I downloaded audacity and put some blank space in the front of each one of my ringtones. 2 seconds seems to be the perfect amount of dead time for the ring to come up at full volume. This is actually kind of nice now vecause it gives me two seconds to reject the call before it starts making noise, so if I am in a meeting or something and forget to turn the ringer off (never happens I can dump the call.
Thanks Jack45, worked perfectly!

Reminder ringtone/vibrate?

so when I get a new text or missed phone call, unlike my other phones, I have no idea when I get these unless I actually turn the phone on and check. is there anyway fix this? or do I have to wait for mango?
Mine does this also! no message alert or ringtone even with the volume at 30, i've noticed when it does this you can hear a hissing coming from the speaker on the back, if i re start the phone it is fine for a while.
