Custom Splash is very low res

I am playing with creating a custom splash screen using lewcamino's instructions in the home cooked rom thread found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=958523&postcount=72 . I have gone through and installed my splash screen, but it is a very low res. Can anyone give me any tips as to what I'm doing wrong. I created the picture in PS elements. My BMP looks great, but when I extract a test image from my nk.nbf file I make it looks all messed up.
TIA
The splash screen of Wizard can't support more than 256 colours, and hence your issue. I suggest you use a simple picture for your purpose, might work better

Have you seen this tutorial? It might point you in the right direction. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284006

thanks vseehua I'll try simplifying it. As I recalled the splash screens of teh various ROM's I've loaded I started to realize this must be my problem.
Demontefixo, thanks I had seen that tut...thats what got me started. I had posted at teh end with a few problems, but it turned out it was related to my POS computer I was working on.
Thanks for your help. When I get a splash I'm happy with I'll post it. The reason I like the tut I linked to earlier is that it is a very easy installed file, and now that I've done it, its not very tough to put together

Need help changing bootscreen please.

First of all I am a newbie to flashing roms/unlocking/etc. I have an HTC TyTN II phone and have been reading for hours on how to change the bootscreen. (1st screen that pops up after powering the phone on) I kind of get an idea of how to do so but I guess I'm having compatibility issues or something with my computer running Vista 64 bit. Anyhow, I was able to flash my phone to one of the L26 diamond series roms and reflashed it with a different rom. My problem is that the bootscreen still shows the guy with a blue eye and says "L26 Diamond Series" on the bottom lower left corner. I want to change this back to the original "smart mobility" screen that the phone first came with or perhaps change it to some other HTC smart mobility screen. (I really love how the OEM original screens look) I hate the bootscreen on my phone right now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Even better if you are located in the Southern California area and can help me in person. I'm willing to drive to you and perhaps even pay you. Please show me how it is done. I am a fast learner. Just a little overwhelmed right now that's all.
Appreciate your time.
Thanks in advance!
lol you can flash your rom but can't do the exact same thing for the splash screen.
funny
try doing a search "change bootscreen". You'd be surprised on what you find....
first of all to help you out that "boot screen" is called a splash screen if you say boot people will get confused thinking you mean the boot loader
second of all there are two ways to do it...
you can flash a new splash screen using a custom bootloader
or if it isn't cooked into your rom.....
you can change it through registry setting (just use schapps advanced configurator)
there are actually two different types of splash screens also... the one that is first that replaces your carier.
after that sometimes there is an animation ( you can use advanced configurator to enable disable and choose the animation)
and then the win mo splash screen.....
all of them are replaceable just search around for specifics on how to change them is not to hard
Figured it out!
I went ahead and used my friend's computer which is running Win XP and figured it out. It's a piece of cake now. Thanks for your help guys.

Thank you for replying with no scolding or sarcasm! I really appreciate it!
I have used Adv-Config3 to change the splash screen so not to have AT&T logo staring at me, but 'No Joy'. I assume it has to be a .gif? Or will other file types work?
thank you in advance.

It's actually really annoying that both screens while boothing are referred to as the splash screen. The splash screen that is referred to in Advanced config would more appropriately be called the welcome screen. To get rid of the very first screen which is also referred to as the splash screen you must flash a different one. If you search "custom splash screens" it will take you to a thread with a lot of different ones you can download. It's also pretty easy to create your own custom ones should you desire to do that as well.
I think the issue you're running into is that the one you're changing in advanced configu is supposed to be a .png file. Animated GIF's can be used, but think they're supposed to be named something different. I'll have to check and update my post.

The initial (Boot) screen when you first power on your phone has to be flashed like a ROM. Then, if you have a GIF file named animated.gif* in the \Windows directory, that image will display before moving on to the Welcome screen. The Welcome Screen is a PNG image named welcomehead69.png (or welcomehead.69.png) also found in the \Windows directory.
* AT&T-based ROMs change the registry key defining the name of the animated GIF, so you will need to edit that key after placing the GIF file in \Windows.
Hope this clears everything up.
To replace the L26 Page you need to follow these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334907
Further info on Bootscreen (All types) can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=421572

That's right, i was thinking it was called animated.gif, but that seemed to obvious i guess, thanks for the info man. I actually have the animated boot screen disabled in my defautl settings xml that runs during my UC so i never really looked into changing it. I should definitely make a custom welcomehead file though and put it in my UC to copy over for my truely presonalize feel lol. I always end up switching my own favorite radios with teh ones cooked in on almost every rom i've downloaded. I really like the 1.59.42.15 radio, but no chef's bundle it...fortunately some wonderful minds around here made it easy for people to put whatever radio they want in a rom

If it didn't change you'll have to flash it using a custom RUU because it is cooked in, you can learn how to do that here

HTC Pure How do I change ATT World Phone?

I've been searching these forums to avoid asking something that has been asked.
But I can't find out how to change the first splash screen for my phone, the one that say, AT&T world Phone.
I've already changed the animation, and WM splash screen, I really wanna change the AT&T one to anime lol
Help?, you may proceed to call me a dumbass if you wish.
I think you can change that animation with Advance Configuration Tool (xda-developers forum thread/cab download site).
I am using the TESS Pride III rom and it is already installed in there.
Maybe I am wrong. I don't know. I'm pretty new to Windows Mobile too.
I've tried that, I've changed all the screens, except for that very first one
Same here. I'd really like to get rid of the AT&T initial splash screen. The one that comes up before the 'X' animation on the Energy ROMs.
Any ideas?
Thx

Am I just missing it or is there no way to change the very first boot image?

Hi!
Just trying to figure out how to replace that ATT first boot image with one of my own like I did on my Tilt 2.
Thanks!
Not without cooking your own ROM.
Ah interesting...with the Tilt2 we were able to run a flash, like if we were changing ROMS but only to change that first screen so I was hoping for something similar with Odin.
I created a new thread in General about this. I've found the file, just can't overwrite it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Ah nice...so at least we are getting closer
Wait, you are talking about the ATT World Phone screen or the 3G animation? The Animation can be changed or deleted, the white ATT World Phone screen cannot without cooking your own ROM.
I had a Tilt2 also and it was easy to change Boot screens as you have mentioned.
Yes the ATT World Phone screen one....oh well.

[Q] How to upload the home screen pictures ?

I saved the home screen pictures. How to upload these pictures, same with these?
Thanks~~
Anyone help ????
Click manage attachments on the additional info section.
Same as you attached the other two images
I mean ... I saved the screenshot pictures. I want to display the Picture (included home screen and phone ), not only home screen picture.
I hope you can get my meaning, my english is poor...
I think what the OP is asking is how would somebody go about creating an image that includes the physical phone; not just a screen grab of what is displayed on the phone. In the images he attached as examples you are seeing the whole device, not just a screen grab.
I've often wondered how people go about this myself. I guess you just find a decent hi-res shot of the phone and Photoshop a screen cap onto it, then 'shop the outcome onto a nice background?

Yes!!! you get my meaning!
However, I am disappointed. I think some website will help me to create the image if I provided the screenshot and select my phone model.

If it were me i would just find a nice picture of the phone, resize the screen capture to fit the screen area on that picture and paste it on, and then paste the resulting image onto a background. Using a drop shadow around the phone image would give a sense of depth to the whole thing, making it look like the phone was above the background.
There's probably better ways of doing it but i'm just a n00b in these matters.
Ah i see. Yeah these are all achieved in photoshop and to be honest are simple to create.
If you are feeling a bit daring you could also create the phone though with the below a base guide for creating the whole image (i know the tutorial is on the ipoop but it'll serve its purpose as an example i suppose );
