Okay, so I finally gave up my Wizard for Tmo's Touch Pro 2. I had a cooked rom on my Wizard that was bare-bones but wicked stable and fast. I am a mom who has to juggle PTA, games and other social activities with doc appointments and banking, etc...I want a rom that is responsive, fast, crazy stable, good on battery life and without a lot of bells and whistles. I prefer to add the apps I need and leave the rest behind. What custom rom would you suggest for me? I have read the various tutorials about unlocking and flashing the Rhodium, and am not new to using cooked rom...just new to the device. Also if there any tricks to make using the device better/fun, I'd love to hear them. Thank you for you advice, and I hope to become a contributor in this section, and get to know all of you here.
A moment of silence please while I lay my Wizard to rest... *taps plays in the background*

energyROM 21869 with manila 2.1 is your best bet... stay away from the newer 6.5.1 builds. i do like flashing the newest and checking it out, but stable is where its at and the 21869 builds have been refined for quite a while now.

This is the ATT Rom that got stretched out to the bare bones and got optimized by speed.
The chief has some cabs in there that will optimize it even more.
-I suggest putting on the cab to disable push for internet because you free up 10MB of RAM.
-And then install the 3G coverage in the comm manager so you can disable 3G when you are not using it. This will up the batter life.
My RAM with nothing running ranges from 55 to 60 percent.
Good to know, I appreciate the responses and welcome any input anyone else has to offer. Thank you again for the help.
My usual response....ROM is personal choice, it all depends on what you install in your phone, and what you use your phone for! Best choice will be read and flash...
as ndn715 said, id recommend Energy's 'photon' ROM. Fast reliable but with a hint of class
The 'Leo' version of this ROM is a lot more buggy and i found it bogs down a bit, being because it was originally designed for the Leo with a much faster processor

Thank you...and I do understand that. I was just trying to find a jumping off point so that I don't blow through 50 roms that have too much junk on them when what I want is pretty vanilla. It seems that the Photon rom seems to be the one to start off with and go from there...and reading about the rom, and the chef, it seems that it has been tested specifically for speed and stability which is really important to me.
My next question is this...there does not seem to be a dedicated wiki for this...or perhaps I have somehow managed to miss it...but before I flash my phone, I'd love to get a copy of Tmo's stock rom. Since Tmo has changed their website, I am not finding a stock rom (as I was able to do years ago with my Wizard)...so does anyone have a copy of Tmo's stock rom? This way if I need to exchange the phone for any reason, it is not completely obvious that I voided my warranty by modifying the phone.
Again, I appreciate everyone's input and welcome and thank you for any future advice that can be offered.
Welcome!
Before you give the Proton ROM a run (excellent choice btw), you might like to take a look at this one too http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572938
There's a light version that might suit your needs - I run the full vesrion and it hasn't missed a beat.

Hi all, I have had a search around and cant find the answer to my question. I expect to get flamed, but here goes.
Having access to all the great roms here, I still dont know which to go for. Many have asked the same thing, but the answer is always the same try them out for yourself. I appreciate the hard work that goes into cooking the roms (or maybe I dont as I would never attempt it) and no one wants to say which is better, but to those of us who are either noobs or just want an improved kaiser the time involved trying them all out can be prohibitive.
I would love to have a new rom that does what I want and then to be able to donate to the chef for the work they put in to developing it. I use my phone so much I really cant be bothered saving data/programs and then re-stalling them until I find a rom that suits. I appreciate the problems that everyones needs are different, but are they so different? Full of features, reliable, fast as poss and looks good, this may describe most roms but I dont know without trying them all or be told which people prefer. If a chef knows that most people dont want a particular feature but definately want another they can see by the downloads which rom is the most popular. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery (coupled with innovation).
I have an unlocked orange UK, WM6, rom 1.81.61.2 WWE (dated 09/20/07), Radio 1.27.14.32, but really dont know what would be the best feature rich, fast, best looking, impressive rom.
I stand ready to be charred
Just randomly install one..
That is your answer.
There is no straight jacket answer because truth is like a diamond. did you get it my friend..
So if I happen to install one that Im not happy with, I may think "oh is that the best on offer, I wont bother again". Im afraid it seems like everyone has to re-invent the wheel in trying a rom out.
Have you installed a rom and then thought wow what a load of rubbish? If people dont know then more will have the same experience, just trying to avoid that. Dare I say that the cooking of roms is not my main interest, but appreciate that it is to others and also appreciate the work that goes into them. Am I being selfish in wanting something that is stable with as I said lots of features etc? Probably, but the same can be said about anything if your not an expert.
Im not trying to be a pain just want some advice to save a lot of time and messing about
Can't give you more info than others as it's all a flash try if don't like flash something different.
If don't have the time to do this the best bet is just to stay stock.
We all install ROMs once in a while don't find it fits our needs yet the one thing we know is that it takes the flasher about 10mins to flash then an hour to play compared to the average ROM taking days to build with having to flash @ every change...
Hey
No need to fear as I was also the same like you when I joined XDA, it is overwhelming seeing the number of custom ROMS out there as well as the extreme amount of information on XDA itself. But after a while you get used to it and draw a simple conclusion, you simply cannot absorb it ALL unless you dedicate your entire life to it.
However you can slowly learn the ropes about the ROMS and proceed.
To answer your question: at the moment it seems like the WM 6.5 roms are the best looking, most feature rich and quite quick to boot, however to me they seem to a bit more unstable and open to flaws than the WM 6.1 roms which have the benefit of being cooked for longer and thus have had the number for bugs reduced. I have used two 6.5 ROMs and have not been able to get them to work with complete functionality I require. So I've decided to wait a while.
So to start of with you should probably find one of the popular WM 6.1 roms (just sort the rom forum by views or replies and you're bound to see whats popular) and flash that to your phone. I am currently using Sakajati's Hyperdragon IV and it is awesome and stable, but you can look around as there is no guarantee that that will work as excellently for you as it has for me. However by using the 6.1 rom I have learnt a fair bit also with the help of the XDA forums and search function. I am now competent enough to solve issues that arise from newer buggier roms etc.
So yeah as the previous guys have mentioned, its trial and error to a certain extent. What works for me may not work for you and it is best to start of with something a bit more stable in favour of features etc. In addition once you find out about the best applications to enhance the phone and use it in conjunction with the cooked ROMs they become even better. I for example am using the 6.1 ROM with SPB Mobile shell which really makes the phone IMHO so awesome that I don't feel the need to move over to a 6.5 rom as everything on my phone works and it provides me with the perfect and efficient functionality that I require.
In the end if you can't land on a custom ROM to your liking, don't give up there might be one out there that works, it just takes patience and a bit of work.
Thanks for the replies, fishzn appreciate the advice, tried looking for the hyperdragon rom but appears to have been taken off. Not sure where to get it from? Tried the authors site, but log in problems seem to be affecting many there.
Thanks again.
Here is the thread on sakajati's forums with the download links for the ROM, you need to register on that forum to download. Don't know about the login problems though, my account is logged in with no issues really. Anyway YGPM
i have gone back to a 6.1 rom having tried several 6.1s before then a few 6.5s.
i found the 6.1 more reliable and stable (never got messages working properly on 6.5). i avoid the lite/fast ones also now as i didnt really notice any speed increase but did notice that i was forever looking for cabs to add back in what was missing. i have a 8gb card loaded with apps and expect them all to work.
just give one a go. you get a feel pretty quick for how it runs you own stuff.
use a good backup program (i use spb backup) and keep a full copy (or 2) on a pc of your sd card.
WARNING: changing roms is very addictive, it will take away your free time (but it is fun)
Stop being a little girl (unless you are one) and jump in..
Each rom has a thread and in that thread people talk about it. Read or jump in head first, either way you could have found the rom of your dreams by now..
OK guys, I hope you won't mind me asking a completely noob question, but my girlfriend wants me to flash a new ROM on her X1. She has the prehistoric old default ROM and it's buggy as hell and it's pissing her off.
She's not a power user at all, but she saw Manila on my HD and loved the simplicity and user-friendliness, so obviously I'm looking for an X1 rom that has Manila 2.5 in it - all on Windows 6.5.
She want's stability and as few bugs as possible. Her everyday use of the phone is 90% phone calling and SMS. She doesn't use WiFi, doesn't play movies on it, couldn't care less about MMS, she never uses hardware keyboard etc. Sometimes she checks her e-mails and does basic social networking on it. You get the picture.
Can you please recommend such a ROM to me? I'm not really going for cutting edge latest builds that have yet to be perfectly polished, but rather something that has been proven stable and reliable.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

Take a look on my "medium" rom. I don't promote my roms normally (hate doing advertisement) but your requirements quite match (MMS removed and stability) and I am a big fan of your software.
First, thank you for your Fingerkeyboard.
I've read a lot of X1 ROM recommendations, and it seems that many people consider Smaberg's Touch X (WM 6.1) about the most stable and bug-free Manilla ROM ever.
I prefer the combination of SPB Mobile Shell and WM 6.5.5, and your GF might prefer that over Manilla because it's very easily customizeable and finger friendly. The ROM I use is very stable, fast, and bug-free: Williyung's 826X.
Just my two cents.
Have tried plenty but keep coming back to Agent_47's Roms. Been using his FireStorm ROM since version 2.7, he's on 5.8 now and it's damn near perfect. Stable, fast, cutting edge, finger friendly and good looking
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3733009&postcount=2
I've tried several good ROMs but I would agree with Sera_6969: Valkyrie FireStorm Leo would be a good fit to your requirements.
try and find out.
thread closed!
I'd also like to thank you for your Finger Keyboard!
The best WM 6.1 (and Manila 2.1) would definitely be Smaberg's Touch X 10.1 (sorry Jack! )
But since you're looking for 6.5/Manila 2.5, I'd vote for agent_47's valkyrie as well. I'm currently using the LEO 24001 version and it's fast and stable.
She could also try the latest official ROM (R3A). Still WM 6.1 and no manila, but way better than what she has on her phone (I'm guessing R1).
By the way, the 6.5/2.5 combo is pushing the limits of the X1, 6.5/2.1 is more stable and faster, while keeping finger-friendlyness. But if she's used to the laggy stock ROM, the infrequent hiccups of 2.5 won't much matter to her.

Instead of giving an answer I'd also like to say, you'd notice that he is one of a great contributor to XDA with his Finger Keyboard so giving a statement like that is a bit rude. He also stated certain key features which are not needed for daily use which sets him apart from the regular posters who request which ROM is suggested best fit for them.
I'd like to give my personal opinion on which ROMs to use, but being that everything you mentioned is the opposite of my needs I'm unable to.
Thank you again for your great contribution to us with your Finger Keyboard!
So what do you guys think is the most stabel rom at the moment in 6.5.
Or the most stable rom in any version
I think XannyTechRom is now the stabilytiest rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=594151
The most stable ROM can be found by using "Search" and "Reading" before posting.
However , you could start off with Miri's as it is close to stock and try everything else before you conclude whats best for you.
PS : All ROM's are stable.

This really gets asked alot and is pretty much a waste of time. This will get closed fairly quickly as it should be.
Asking what is the most stable or best rom usually ends up in endless & pointless bickering.
The best answer is the one that you find most works for you. Search, read the different rom threads and see what parts of them you like. Read up some more then flash a few and use them for a few days so you get the feel and experience of them. You will eventually find one that has all that you are looking for.

It depends on how you want to describe "stable".
Most of the ROM's i try here are really good. But it really depends on what your looking for. Sometimes i want Eye candy, and sometimes I just want my ROM to be very responsive and bug free with the things I normally use.
Then again its subjective from person to person.
And pointless threads leads to pointless discussions , lol
Just my 2 cents.
Waiting for this to be closed.

good advice... the problem is, that we have a umpteen of different ROMS and - thats most tiring - a bazillion of replys to the particular threads. How could you extract valuable information out of that bunch of information?
so, in my opinion, that thread here is absolutely justified. But on the other side I have absolutely no idea, how to find a answer to that question.
cheers
The point here is, "You will never know unless you try it yourself," especially if you spend your time asking others, waiting and hoping.
Read threads, explore and experiment is the best advice we all can give you as everyone's preference can be different then yours.
.....threads like this don't last long for the purposes mentioned above so before it closes I would like to say Good luck and happy Flashing.
I understand where you are coming from, there is a hell of a lot of reading through various forums to try and work out what is the best for you. ( I also have found the search function takes quite a while to dig through to find what u want)
Recently I have been after fast/"stable" rom, running a WM6.5 rom with sence 2.5. I'm am not a serial flasher, as i try and find a good rom and stick with it for a many months. (Was a big fan of Dutty's when he cooked for the HD)
I choose the below (easy to find in the rom section)
[ROM][WWE][Feb.13.10] Topix 3.5.4 [Sense 2.5.2012][5.2.21891][ONLINE]
and I run version 1.14.XX.XX radio.
There are a few small bugs but nothing major or impact most peoples phone usage,
Main bugs are
Java won't run (bypassable by a cab)
Slight issue when editing a txt (still researching a fix)
Possibly problem keeping a proxy setting (no research done yet)
I beleive facebook also needs some patching but i dont use it so have not tried, but again there is a cab to fix it
.
I have added added a small amount of bling, being
"Brians WM6.5 taskbar (v5b)" for a coloured taskbar
and
"driverpack signed 2010" to increase video speed
I also have a heap of games plus some apps and utilities (eg clean ram, Tom Tom, coreplayer, mobipocket etc)
It runs very well and I have had no stability issue's. It's fine on the battery too unlike some.
I highly recommend it. (This is a fairly new rom version so it is possible that other problem may occur but it is from a good cook)
Difficult to answer this is why these kind of posts get stopped...
But It all depends on what you use your device for, I for one need lots of free memory as I run some heavy GPS software and other applications at the same time, most of the Sense 2.5 loaded roms are way to bloated, they look nice and are great for basic use, but once you start really pushing the device which this device can handle, its just it seems all this fuss about a bit of graphical weather and a book reader that is far inferior to most applications out there, is beyond me...WM6.5.5 I find very nice, especially the new calendar finger friendlyness, I find I don't use the sense calendar as I can quickly cut and paste etc..within the built in calendar, music player I find Nitrogen far superior to the HTC one, image viewer well there can be only one and thats Rescos.
I can see what HTC are trying to do with Sense, but its based on having an extremely powerful system ie..HD2. so I would recommend a basic rom
Hi,
I am a newbie when it comes to smartphones and the rest. And this is exactly why I'd like to know what is/are the best ROM(s) on Touch Pro 2.
I'm currently using Windows Mobile 6.5.
The criteria should be:
- Visual effects
- Responsiveness (speed)
- Ease of use
- Minimal usage of the RAM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=562773
this coming also from a newbie, which is using this ROM for a couple of months now. good luck!
There is no "best" ROM. It depends on your individual needs and preferences. Many people here generally frown upon questions like this, because its an insult to the hard work that the chefs do to create the custom ROMs, to recommend one over the other.
At the risk of contradicting myself a bit, I know the choice can be overwhelming for n00bs. So I will just briefly mention my personal experience. I used Energy for a long time, tried Deep Shining, and simplicity is my current favorite. But that doesn't mean that other ROMs are not great also. Valkyrie and Jackos also get lots of good response on these forums.
Thank you very much! I'll read through right away!!!
Oops! I didn't know I was trespassing. However, thank you for understanding me. I'll further my research using the names of ROMs you've given me. Thank you once again!

Try the JackOS ROM, i'm a fan! It's stable as a rock and he added OCT, so your phone is overclocked to 710Mhz by default.
He is a perfectionist as he wants to minimize memory leaks (read: low mem usage).
I can really recommend his roms
Grtz,
FeareX
I too am new to Windows Mobile and found my ATT Tilt 2 a bit slow.
I've HardSPLed my phone, loaded all the different ROMS from NRG and after running them for quite some time, and screwing with them found that there are things left out that only the stock ROM provides....as in:
GPS
keyboard functions even after loading the keyboard fix it will not retrack.
Widgets that go missing after you have set them up....
Little things.....
I went back to the upgraded ROM form HTC.
I would suggest the same....
There's crudscraper which will free up some space and a couple of cabs that will give you 16 quick links and contacts but.......
I would suggest loading the basic HTC rom and purchasing SPB Shell.
Quite frankly, IT WORKS.
Later....
Go find the ROMs Wildchild builds. They are like stock ROMs but MUCH MUCH more stable and fast. Lean and mean. Link in my sig.
My 2 cents. Tried many over extended period of time from:
- simplest eras2r (but one of the most solid-like-a-rock with a good battery and performance) to
- Energy's huge variety of choices
- Wild Child's
- Simplicity's (was not very simple for me, had a couple of stability issues)
- etc. etc. etc.
Has never had a chance to actually try Jackos's. Just now tried Jackos's full s2 ROM. Flying, tons of storage and program memory, right programs, right layout for me. If this baby is stable, not sure will ever look for something else.
My personal opinion go with latest Jackos ROM, OndraSter did also meke some good ones, but no sense ...
I guess there really isnt too much to say anymore but just to try them all... The only thing i do suggest is making sure you do the "task 29" ( forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=649191) between flashes just so u know ur getting the most purity from all ur roms. Different roms offer different things and as u go through there post the objectives of the roms. Another thing i suggest you try is, getting a rom like Jackos S2, disabling sence from the options and trying the android prj. But at the end of the day u find the rom that fits u!
What ROM cooked with Maxsense would you suggest to a newbie like me?
