[Since I posted this in the ROM Dev. section by accident, hope it's alright to post here in the proper section.]
I don't know if you GSM guys have had this problem, but my CDMA Diamond seems to.
Whenever I receive a call and I press the "Answer" button or hard key, it doesn't seem to connect instantly and allow me to talk. It would stay at the menu and I could continue to press "Answer" with nothing happening. Then after a minute it would finally connect and I can talk, provided the other person hasn't hung up yet.
Anyone know any solutions?
when i pres answer button it takes some seconds to connect

What rom are you using right now? I had this problem on Juicy2.1(Sprint), but it went away when I flashed to 2.2
Same here with all tested ROMS and same with all previous HTC devices ... seems to be standard "windows mobile behavior"
Edit: but I am on GSM
yeah, i also get this problem when hanging up as well, it takes ages to hang up, long after i've pressed the button or ended the call on the touchscreen
there is a string for "out call", is referred to idlecall...
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\CallProgressIdleTimeout
normally is setted at 3 (seconds) but you can change at 0
also for incoming calls:
HKLM\Software\HTC\Phone\PhoneExtendSetting\EndCallTime
change always to 0
try those changes it should answer & hangup faster
bye,
davide

Just tried this, had a friend phone me, looks like it connected instantly this time. Of course, it's just 1 call, I'll have to see what happens with more incoming calls. Thanks for the suggestion!
Cannot find this entry in my registry - 1.93:
also for incoming calls:
HKLM\Software\HTC\Phone\PhoneExtendSetting\EndCall Time

Any idea?
Thanks

Brendo, I LOVE YOU!
I can actually get calls from a locked state now!
You have no idea how much time, work, and frustration you have saved me.
What a concept.. A phone that answers calls!
Such oversight on the part of Sprint.
Dammit I cant find the registry!
I avoid .cabs.

I bought a Touch Diamond recently.
But I can't resolve a problem with the fast dormont display during call function.
I tried to modify the setting in the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastDormantDisplayDuringCall
I change the DWORD Data from 1 to 0.
But after a soft reset, I still have the problem that screen turns off quickly during calls.
It bothers me when I need to use the keypad during a call
to enter ext. number or to follow a vocal operation.
Does any one have the solution here?
Thanks a lot.
Craig Shih
My problem is now solved. Any one who needs the solution can go to post#19 and post#29.
But it needs more tests and feedbacks because I don't know how it works for other roms.
No body in the diamond forum knows how to solve this problem.
Maybe this is a very very difficult problem to solve.
No one knows how to sovle it until now.
Hope a real master comes to help us.
diamond bugs
yes it's really sad to have a expensive mobile without a support even the htc don't have a solution what kind of support we had ??? lucky us we had a website like XDA developer to help us tnx to the dude who put up all the tweaks and update....try to flash the euro rom it will solve the prob.blank screen during call...
as soon as phone call is received, just press on joystick centre button shortly. Display will not go off then. Simple enough.
if before you'll make the call ypu'll take out the stylus, it won't go off, and it will automatically start a note.this setting is in phone option last tab...
remember: it goes to sleep the moment you hold it against your ear (or your hand or anything in the front).
if you set the registry right it will stay on as long as you don't hold anything against the front.

that's an additional and necessary side effect since he only needs the display to stay on so he can use the keypad without pressing extra buttons.

I tried this method and then the call will be on hold immediately
until I press the central button again.
But it surely keep the screen on during calls though I have to press the central button twice.

Thank you for your suggestion.
It's a good functionality for diamond users.
But sometimes I want to use the keypad during calls rather than to make a note with stylus.
For example when we call for some credit card toll free service,
we might have to key in ext. numbers or ID numbers or card numbers etc.

Err... personal view..
If there is a solution.. it would be great.. but just in case, there isn't :
I have gotten used to it.
now if it is to enter extension numbers or whatever.. I just start off by pushing the center dial once. The key pad is there.. I get on with entering the ext. number or the Account numbers..
Same call - next time I have to enter other details, hit the center thing again.. and the key pad is there..
It's not that much of a hassle.
Of course a solution would be great, but even if there isn't, one does get used to it, in time.
why do you want it to stay on.
i noticed that when it stays on during a call, my ear is opening programs.
which i really do not want.
if you need to use the phone during a conversation just press the on button.

You are right, it 's not a big deal.

During call the light sensor can also switch the backlight off. This setting will that disable.
This registry setting will disable your screen from turning off when making a call:
HKLM\ControlPanel\Backlight\LightSensorPollingEnable set to 0
It disables the lightsensor so it doesn't react when you're putting the phone next to your ear.
It worked for me, so I hope it will work for you as well.

Hello. That registry entry solved that problem, but still after a few seconds the light turns off, even if I set it to turn off after 5 minutes in the Power settings. Is there any registry "tweak" to increase the backlight duration during a phone call?

Yes I can. Look at this post, point 8: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2278799&postcount=1
This regkey is also mentioned a few times in this thread.
See also point 17 of that post.
Done.
This is what I did
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\BatteryTimeoutInCall set to 0
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\BatterySuspendTimeoutInCall to 0
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastDormantDisplayDuringCall to 0
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone Sleep to 0
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LightSensorPollingEnable to 0
That done..
Restart the phone (I waited for a minute or so)
Backlight remains on now.
Then, just for the hell of it.. went back into the registry and set back the default values for:
lightsensorpollingenable
Phone sleep
Fast dormant
Checked again.. still works.
If one or two people could confirm that this works, we could finally put a SOLVED thing to this nonsense and get it over with.
May be stupid question but...
When somebody calls... how do you people end the call?
When I click the right lower button the diamond tries to make a new call to the person I just recieved a call from.
Now I simply do noting...
I hit the part of the screen with a red rectangle that says "End Call".
Just push the "end" (phone down) button.
TDO
My screen is completly black... even after tweaking (which didn't seem to work)

So hit the unlock button, turn your screen on and hit end call on the screen. That's what I do every time.
As TDO mentioned, is pressing the bottom-right hardware button not an easy enough way?
Or is that the button that you are pressing, and it's calling the person back? How peculiar...

I did the suggested tweaks but my screen keeps turning of when somebody calls.... very annoying
When I get a call and it finally end, I simply do nothing... but I don't think this is a correct way... but I don't see any other convenient one
Sorry to be dumb... if you think this is a silly question, just don't react OK!?
intersting problem.
do you have a t mobile version of the diamond, i think the buttons are in a different location on the Tmob diamond. maybe a flashed ROM will not correctly map the keys on this device.
just an idea, maybe you could provide more details on your device to help us help you.
Tried the noSleep!!.cab that's here somewhere? Then maybe the screen won't turn off when you call, and you can use the softkey.
It's obviously not working like most of ours are for one reason or another... on mine, a UK 1.37.405.1 WWE, I just hit the bottom right 'phone down' key; the screen comes on, just in time to see the call end.
If I were you, I'd flash it to one on the UK standard roms, either a 37 or 93, and you'll be sorted.

always loved scandinavia... now even more.... PROBLEM SOLVED.
Despite different tweaks (after searching the forum.... really,.. I did some searching), NoSleep!!.cab keeps the phone "on" so I can easily end the call like it should.
Does your 'end call' button work at other times? E.g. when pressed-and-held does it switch profile (or whatever you've got it set at)?
I'm just curious as to why you're seeing such strange behaviour in phone mode!
Mathew
hey man... thnaks for your interrest...
When I puch it the Diamond goes in "Sleep" mode....
What it does when calling.... now it hangs up the call just like when you click the softkey on the screen.
Initially, when puching THAT button, the phone rerang the last caller.... very strange..
Anyway... now I'm perfectly happy....
Strange indeed! Oh well, at least you're sorted which is all that matters!

I have a couple of anoying problems with the diamond. Its my first smart phone and there are som things I think the SonyEricsson handle better
First, whats up with the deal that Phone mode dissapears when you talk? When I´m calling some kind of support and need to press numbers thru the menu the phone locks after just about 5 secs and I have to go in to phone and keypad again, very anoying. Is their a way to keep in i phone mode to easy access to the keypad and ex speaker mode?
Second, the phone doesnt vibrate when it rings. When I choose vibrate-mode in the quick list it goes quite and vibrating, great for meetings. But I still want the phone to vibrate if I´m in a club or something
Third, Is there any way to shut down the function of the keypad appears automatically? When I go in the phone and wants to call I may have the number in the quick list but then I have to get the keypad away to see it. Isnt there a way to get it to appear only when I actually press the keypad button?
That was the first three questions, I suspects there will be plenty more after a while But I would appreciate any help I can get

this is a feature not a bug and it is for you not to start any app with yr ear.
it can be override in many ways. one of them is using advance configuration 3.2. search! search!

I want to change the way the keypad acts. So its never appears automatically when the phone thinks I´m gonna use it, when I´m gonna write a SMS for example
The dial button won't work on my phone suddently for some reason. If someone calls... it will allow me to hit it and it'll answer but if I just pick up my phone and hit the dial button (to dial someone) nothing will happen. It'll just show my today screen as if it's disabled for something. I can go the long way around and hit "phone" in my menu or hit the dial button when I happen to be in a program but it refuses to work just by pressing it?
Any ideas?

Try power cycling your phone, happened on my s730 once and that fixed it. Not sure what caused the button to fail out, probably was trying to run to my on my phone at the time. Either way try that and see what happens. If that doesnt work what software changes have you recently made if any?

Its not really annoying, and it doesnt really hurt you. You can nicely point them in the right forum's direction or maybe try to help them out. No need to chew people out for an honest mistake, I am sure you have made a few. I know I have.
Have you tried hard resetting the phone? Maybe it will work or maybe not.
Can anyone tell me of a fix that keeps the screen from turning off during a call? I assume this occurs on the Diamond and the Pro. I am using a Pro, but got no answer on the Rafael forum. Swear on my Momma's (your jargon here) that I searched for the answer..yes I'm a noob
try this
8. Prevent screen switching off during phone call --> HKEY_Local_Machine\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastD ormantDisplayDuringCall to 0 (Note: does not work on all ROMs)
AND (tested and works on EU ROMs thanks to Rod65)
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\Sleep switch value from 1 to 0
prolly wil do the trick...
but why would one want to keep the screen on during a a call???
you have an extra eye in youre ears?
or do you like to press randum buttons like "hang up" and such??
thats wat happend when i activated my screen during calls... now ive got it back 2 normal, and cant say i disagree with the initial design to shut it of during call...
besides that you can get it back on during a call with a simple press of the powerbutton
The reason why - Because when I get a call and I need to activate loud speaker / mute the call ... I have to do the following:
Push the power button, click unlock, push unlock again, then push "phone", and then make the adjustment.
At which point the screen goes off again!
How difficult would it have been for HTC to have just dim/disable touch on the screen, until you push a key to enable them??
screen on in call is needed when
on a automated service...i.e telephone banking
try and swap with this one

You can also get the screen back on by pressing the 'Action' button - centre D-Pad... that's the way I do it. I just can't understand why anyone would want the screen on during a call?
