Hello! I'm new to this forum. Seeing as how most of my questions have been answered here from Google searches, I decided to join this forum.
I'm trying to install Gmail mobile from (m.google.com/mail) onto my Tilt running WM6.1. I'm not running any fancy ROM. Just the latest ROM found off the HTC website. During the install, I keep getting this error:
gmail.jad?dc=gwm?ver=v1.50.1193 cannot be found at this URL. -1 Please
contact your operator for more information.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Thank you!
requires java since that's a java file.get the midlet manager or other versions of that app
I already have a midlet manager, I think. I've got this installed on my PDA: "Emsertec Jbed Build ID: 20080428.2.1". If that isn't the right one, could you suggest a better one?
Anyone who has run into this problem able to help?
I just downloaded it with PIE.
Sorry, you're talking to a newbie here. What is PIE?
pocket internet explorer
I can download the "gmail.jad" file. But I cannot install it. I get the error included in my first post.
open the java machine and then point it at the .jar file.
I did and that is the error I received during install.
try this. I had the same problem as you and this worked...
Install the JBed3dMod_RU_FIX.zip file Java Midlet Manager from this post.
Then, install the Gmail app to the jbed you just installed.
Thank you, it worked! But I don't see a Gmail icon anywhere. I have to launch the new "JBed3dMod.." app and then from there launch Gmail. Is there a way to launch the Gmail app directly?
And what is this "JBed3dMod.." app?

If you have problems creating the shortcut, the easiers way to do it is on your ppc using total commander. create the text file containing your shortcut parameters and save it as gmail.txt then rename gmail.txt as gmail.lnk and copy the shortcut to windows\start menu\program files
it will then show up in your program files and you can even assign it to a button if you like

That is the new Java app/midlet manager that you installed that allows the Gmail java app to work.

yep.
try putting this code in a .lnk file:
Code:
1#"\Program Files\Jbed3DModTest\JBed.exe", -run s0_
"run s0" is the command for the application number if you have more than one java aplication you will have to find out which number yours is (they should be ordered from top to bottum starting from zero on...)
and although it shouldn't matter to much on this because it isn't a long code 1# should really be 48# that number desribes how many characters are in the action you want to preform
Thank you! I created the shortcut, though the instructions weren't exactly correct for my situations. After fiddling around I got the shortcut working.
I noticed it uses the same icon as the "JBed3dMod.." app. This might be asking for too much, but is there a way I could assign a different icon for my newly created shortcut?
icons...
This is a relatively hard topic to find & understand from this forum. But through a bit of patience, it can be done.
Here you can read how to change icons for folders:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=339405&highlight=icons
For icons for individual files, like the Gmail .lnk file I sort of learned by myself (read ^ that thread first):
Select an icon from your .dll
Select a setting or program to link to
Then, simply create a .lnk file that is structured like this example [ex. for Gmail]:
Code:
1#"\Program Files\Jbed3DModTest\JBed.exe", -run s0_,17?\Windows\custicons.dll,-186
again, it takes some practice + patience.
Why not just use the built-in e-mail client?
Why even bother with the java applet?
I just use the Pocket Outlook (or whatever the default messaging / SMS / e-mail app is) and set it up for IMAP with GMail's servers:
Username: [email protected]
Password: your password
Incoming server: imap.gmail.com
Outgoing server: smtp.gmail.com
Outgoing server requires authentication: Yep
Require SSL for Incoming e-mail: Yarr
Require SSL for Outgoing e-mail: Aye
Account Type: IMAP4
Use the default settings for all the other options, if you wish..
Then, if you want to do the GMail "Archive" action:
..move the message to the "All Mail" folder
If you want to do the GMail "Report Spam" action:
..move the message to the "Spam" folder
No fun GChat stuff here, but otherwise gets the basic job done.. No download or JVM needed
Hope this helps someone! Also, this could apply to any E-mail client (as long as it supports IMAP4) and not just M$PO.

Thanks for the information on the icons. I guess that's too much trouble for me right now. Was hoping there would be an easy way. I guess I'm just lazy .
I was using the built in email client first with the IMAP4 settings. But the two main reasons I prefer to use the Gmail client is because I can view everything by conversation and I can easily see my starred messages.

As I have been sifting through the forum I have come across several threads about people wanting to know how to get rid of outlook e-mail from messages.
The e-mail I have set up on my kaiser is the same as my outlook on my pc, so when I sync I get duplicate e-mails and have to disable the option to sync mail with pc, but this still leaves the outlook account in messages.
Well here's how to get rid of it.
First you will need a registry editor, I recommend Resco Registry editor but others will work fine.
Then you will need to make a backup of the registry key we are going to delete. So open up your registry editor and go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc
Now in here you will find several folders(so to speak). These include Activesync, imap4, pop3, MMS1 and SMS.
Go into Activesync and their should be a key called "Friendly Name" this should say something like "Outlook" go back to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc then select the "Activesync" folder and use menu to export the folder as a .reg file (backup file) then select the "Activesync" folder again, but this time delete it.
Now close your reg editor and go into messages and the Outlook title should be replaced with the title Activesync. Just soft-reset your device and the Outlook mailbox including "Activesync" has now disappeared leaving just the e-mail accounts and other message accounts that you use whilst mobile.
Should you wish to restore this option just inport the .reg file you created into the registry and soft-reset and it'll be back.
Well I hope this helps. And quick thanks to all members of this forum for your continued support to the community and even helping the little guys.

Thanks! Great solution!
EDIT: Wiped out my outgoing MMS. Dropped registry backup back in and both MMS and Outlook Mail were back.

Why do you have duplicate emails? With an exchange server, your emails on device and in your pc's outlook will replicate - and without exchange they sync anyway?
What's the settings for MMS1? I don't have that in my registry.

Each of these folders represent an account within messages. So "Activesync" is "outlook" (used and updated when syncing with a pc version of outlook or using an exchange server), IMAP4 Corresponds to my (@btinternet.com/using imap), SMS is for SMS (go figure/lol), MMS1 (this can also just be MMS on some device/dependant on version of Arcsoft) POP is for my (@3mail) account and Hotmail is for hotmail (in juction with using Windows live).
So by deleting the "activesync" folder you are in effect deleting the information to display the account.
Also I deleted the imap4 folder (after making a backup of course of the reg entry) And soft-reset the device. It removed my @btinternet account with e-mails. But after i imported the .reg backup I made and soft-reset the device again the account returned with all e-mails intact and fully readable.
**Possibility for a freeware app to hide accounts that are private??? using a password to auto add/remore .reg to access accounts or maybe not. **
Thanks trying to bring something to those who have helped me... Thanks

Hi unwired, The reason I get duplicates is because I don't actually use an exchange server. I have my @btinternet.com account set up on both my home Supreme Pc, My laptop and my Kaiser. But when I used to cradle my kaiser with my pc (mainly for appointments) to update it used to download my e-mails from outlook on my pc to my kaiser. So in the outlook account on my kaiser would be all the e-mails from my pc version of outlook, then in my @btinternet.com account were the same e-mails that I collected whilst I was mobile.
So I needed access to my @btinternet account whilst mobile but in the outlook folder that wqould not let me sync so then i had to set up the other.
So i stopped it syncing with outlook messages on the pc and then decided to try and get rid of the outlook account, which is what i then proceeded to do!
Ok i am going to stop now before i start going round in circles..
But thanks for the question..

Your welcome mate. To be honest I think it was your comment about it I came accross the other day on the forum, which is one of the reasons I decided to post it. I'll try and help more if I can. I've just setup talking dial tones. so when I dial a number it says the number rather than beep. Thanks to grumps for the tones!! I think he's compiling an app to do this easier. But i couldn't wait and so set it up via the registry...
Oh www.htcclassaction.org reports we could have proper display drivers by the end of march!! So fingers crossed our Kaiser will fullfil their legacy!!

I don't have that registry file (obviously). I have the Shogun's Palm SMS threading program installed and lost my MMS'. The fix to install the Arcsoft composer and run an enablemms.cab never worked for me. I wonder if this is what it's trying to fix.

Yeah, sounds like it. If you post that .cab here. I'll take a look for you mate and see what I can come up with over the next week. Failing that I can take my .reg setting for the mms and possibly create a link to the default messaging app.
However my best mate has an o2 xda orbit and I installed WM6 on it but there is no 6.1 yet and he wanted threaded sms. So i installed Shogun's Palm sms. Now when he opens that app he does not have mms, however when I linked to the default messaging app that still contained his mms account and all the mms I sent him were waiting there for him.
So try this out and if you need my help just ask. You can PM me for my e-mail address if you want to send the .cab direct or ask for any other help. I am at work tomorrow(or should I say today) and am on a sleep over so i will check my pm but it'll be from my Kaiser.
Hope I could help..

I have used a .cab analyser on the enablemms.cab and it contains no registry entries at all (none will be added or removed(except for unistall info and platform.reg which I believe is more to do with os at a guess))
and contains these files:
CeSetup.dll in the \Program Files\Tools Folder
checkfile.exe in the windows folder
Platformxxx.reg in the windows folder
CM_Entries.xml in the windows folder
And
Customize.lst in the \Program Files\Tools folder
Let me know how you get on..

hi there again...
the trick works great, but I think, that I have a small problem in here.
after applying Your trick on my stock t-mob uk vario III everything went fine except loosing sound for new sms. even if I have ticked in my options to play sound and show message I can't hear or see any notification. only sign of new message is number of new messages in the middle of htc home plugin.
now.. I made a backup of that key before deletion, but...
I've deleted it.. '(-_-)
any chance for You to post that .reg file for me mate?? or if You have some other solution, then I would be more than happy to avoid hard reset.

No worries mate, I still have sound on my sms notifications although I did have to deselect play sound in sound and notifications and reset then re-select the play sound option. And it worked for me but I have a stock htc tytn II. I am at work on my kaiser at the moment and the browser won't let me add an attachment, so when I get my laptop out at 6 i'll post the .reg entry. Thanks for the update diigibio. I appreciate any help. How did you link your friend's phone to the default MMS messaging app? Or would it help if I tried to reapply registry settings?

The default messaging application remains untouched, especially when installing third party replacements such as SMS threading (IMSMS, Palm, Textr and so on). The default link goes to \Windows\tmail.exe.
The quickest way to do this is by using Resco File Manager. click on the tmail.exe and hold until (right-click) menu appears and click "send to" then choose "Start Menu as Shortcut".
Once this is done you can access it via the start menu or use the button app to map it to a button or use with a today screen plugin (spb etc) As when you install the third party app it either replaces the original shortcut with its own or alters the original link to point to the third party app.
Hope this is of some help...

Thanks! worked great for me on WM 6.1 I didn't see the active sync option before the restart either.
Hi guys,
Im running wm6.1 on my kaiser. As we all know on the htc today screen, theres the 3 buttons below the clock... email, text, and missed calls.
i get a txt, the middle icon shows ive got 1 message. i click that, opens up my sms/mms inbox... read txt etc... close screen.
i then get an email, the left icon shows ive got 1 message. i click that, but for some unknown reason, it loads up the sms/mms inbox. I have to then switch to my email account using the drop down menu.
This never used to happen, but it does it all the time now...
Also, i created a "new account" using my gmail address, instead of using the "outlook E-mail" account... could this be causing the problem? i dont want to have to flash my ROM again, but id like to get this all working properly.
Finally, i just downloaded Slithers CUBE (SCLPC w/FTouchFLO)... and i cannot find where i need to link the email button to in the config. yes, i am a noob, but id still v much appreciate any kind of help with this matter.
thanks one and all
I believe that the Email Icon is linked to the outlook account specifically and not to a user created account (Like Gmail). If it does not find a valid outlook account then it may open up the last accessed account (E.g SMS/MMS).
Hopes this helps.
i've just created/edited the outlook account so that its got all the details etc from my gmail address... but for some reason, it comes up saying error syncronising...

While you are inside the "Message" application (I do not know the correct English word as I'm using a Norwegian version of WM), you can use the left/right button to switch between SMS/MMS, Outlook and other additional e-mail accounts.

Hey Bjorn (sorry, i cant find the propper "o")
I can see what you mean, but my issue is more that it should simply load straight into the email account. And now that ive deleted the account i created, it does just that - loads straight into the outlook account.
However, i keep getting the "error syncing" message whenever i try to download my gmail email.

My intention was just to give you an easier method for switching between your accounts, as this method should be more user-friendly than using drop-down menus

Try this:
1) Download and run KaiserTweak
2) Find the 'HTC Application' branch.
3) Change the 'HTC Home e-mail button' to 'Open default Mailbox (Advised)'
I've had this same problem in the past. Essentially when you push the e-mail button and it's not working correctly it will open up the messaging app wherever it already is. So if you have SMS open (but minimised/off screen), then pushing the e-mail button will simply open it there.

Im afraid i've been one step ahead... kaisertweak was one of the first things i downloaded... originally, i did have the problem with it loading up the "choose accounts" messaging thing, and i changed that using the kaisertweak settings...
but im afraid, one day on, that i still cant download my email using the outlook account i searched lots yesterday, and found that people either used activesync to jumpstart the emails, or that it just randomly worked the next day. But ive tried both, and both have failed
please, someone, help me get my mail...

Have exactly the same problem. Did you find the solution?
nope, no solution...
i was fed up of not having emails, so ive remade a new email account and i just have to switch...
tho i am looking into ways of remapping the softkeys so that one is assigned directly to going into your email inbox, and the other to start a new sms... two vital functions that dont seem to exsist on the kaiser
Hi guys,
I don't mean to vent frustrations here but I'm becoming increasingly disappointed with my T-Mobile Vario III (WM6).
My main issue lies with the email capabilities and its seeming inability to work consistently and correctly in my hands. Initially, I was not able to see the link for email attachments let alone download them.
I learned that I needed Windows Live to accomplish this. So I downloaded the CAB file, installed it, synced it with my hotmail inbox and everything appeared to be ok. Wrong.
I was able to click the attachment, which happened to be an .xls file, and download it. However, it revealed itself in 'Mail Attachments' on my SD card. Lets say the file was called Book1.xls, when I open Mail Attachments, the file is there but it has been renamed to '340000d2-330000d4' and is unrecognisable to Excel Mobile. The file is ~ 730kb. The phone suggests I go to Excel Mobile and try to open it through the application. This doesn't seem to be achievable.
What's more, when I go back to my inbox and try and re-download the file, it won't let me. It tells me it 'Cannot display the attachment'. Occasionally it will also say it 'Failed to sync folders'.
This whole process seems so much simpler on my friend's N95. Go straight to hotmail, download attachment, open with Spreadsheet and bang, it's there. Why can't the Vario III be like that?
I apologise in advance if I'm being incompetant but surely it shouldn't be this fiddly.
Thanks.
So if I understand you correctly, you can't view/open email attachments in your pocket outlook.
If that's the case, (if you're installed the latest windows cab), do have the latest version of "Windows Live" and/or Pocket MS Office '07?
Perhaps you should use a different email client (Fleximail, Profimail, (not free).
I also suggest you try the link in my signature "General Software Questions". That way, more people will be able to see and answer your question(s)
If I read things right, you are trying to download your email from Hotmail?? If this is right, then to be honest the best solution is to change to a proper pop3 address (Gmail for example).
I use Gmail on my Tytn II and have no problems downloading attachments etc using the built in Outlook client, the only thing I have done is to get another program to build a "check email" schedule.
If you aren't using Hotmail, then ignore this!
Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate the responses.
I was using Hotmail in a vain attempt to retrieve my attachments. After about 4 or 5 hours of research and effort, I decided to give up. I tried using Gmail and it works fine, as long as I don't use the html version of mobile Google. Normal Gmail allows me to save the excel file to my documents and open it with Excel Mobile.
I am satisfied, I suppose.
Thanks again.
I think you would be better of activating pop3 on Gmail and using the built in Outlook and not going through a browser, but its up to you.
If using gmail, I would enable IMAP on your gmail account, then set it up as a regular IMAP email on the Kaiser. Much better then POP on a mobile device.
I think the problem with the poster is he's opening the files directly from the mail attachment folder which is where Pocket Outlook puts the attachments with whatever name it wants to use.
What you have to do is go to your email and you'll see the attachment there with its correct name. Click and hold, choose save as and pick the location. Then you can browse to the location using windows explorer or excel and open it from there. Just like a pc.
Yeah, I worked it out: Don't use Hotmail. I configured it to use Gmail IMAP and it works fine. Now I just have the multitude of other bugs to deal with...
Thanks again.
I have an AT&T tilt with the original ROM. I am using iFonz 0.9.9. In my messaging window I deleted my outlook account cuz i dont use it. I then added my gmail account. I set it up correctly and everything works fine with it. Its just that when I click on the messages icon it just takes me to the main messaging window where it shows
-Messages
[email protected]
-Add new account
then I have to click on [email protected] to go to my gmail inbox. What I want is to be able to go directly from my today screen to the gmail inbox when i click on the main messages icon on the today screen. I am using iFonz. So I click and hold on the icon to bring up its settings. In the file box i put
\Windows\tmail.exe and that works to bring to the main messages screen where it has the 3 options of
-Messages
[email protected]
-Add new account
So what I need to know is what to put in the arguments box so that it will go to the inbox of the gmail account. I got my sms inbox icon to work where the file box is (\Windows\tmail.exe) and the argument is (-service "SMS" -open "inbox") But I have no idea ow what to put in there to get it to go to my gmail inbox.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I figured it out. Maybe this will help someone in the future. It is like the sms argument except for where "sms" goes you put the name of the email account you want to open. So for example. [email protected] would put this
file code ----> \Windows\tmail.exe
argument code ------> -service "JohnDoe" -open "inbox"
In messages, go to menu - extra - options. Here you can edit your preferences of the account chooser (maybe not the correct name, I use the dutch version ) By unchecking the checkbox you can disable the account chooser.
Sweet , this was just what i was after for the UL today screen on my Touch Cruise, now I have icons for direct SMS inbox and email, instead of just the messeging area.
I had to make one tweak though on the email side, instead of using my name I entered "Windows Live" as thats the system I use and bingo Bango it goes straight to the Windows Live in Box.
Code:
"\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "Windows Live" -open "inbox"

If yor are running WM6.5 the syntax will be:

I couldn't make the -open option work, it rather goes to the latest open window in the sms or email account.

I have an ATT Tilt and Goodlink software (v5) installed for our corporate email. I also have been using pocket outlook to retrieve pop3 email for a couple of personal accounts. The shortcut I have been using to get to the "folders" option in pocket email mysteriously changed and now connects me to the goodlink email account instead. The shortcut looks like this:
19#:MSINBOX
The only way I have been able to get to my pop3 accounts is to click on a text messaging link and scroll left or right with the d-pad to get to the other accounts.
Is there a way to rebuild the shortcut from scratch or create a new one which will point me to the 'messaging folder' for pocket outlook?
I'm sure the answer is already here somewhere in the forums, but searching and browsing all weekend hasn't been fruitful for me. Thanks in advance for the assitance.
I'm amazed at the vast knowledge available here at xda-developers and the variety of software and solutions you people provide.
I believe the app you want is tmail.exe in your Windows directory. You may have a tmail.ink shortcut in your Windows directory... in which case you can just copy and paste it wherever you want, presumably in the Start Menu structure. The other way is to find tmail.exe with Total Commander... then hilight it can click "file" then ">>>>>" then "Create shortcut" and place it in Start Menu.
Thanks smuook! Now i feel silly. I had seen several posts discussing tmail.exe. I had mistakenly thought this was a T-Mobile app. your suggestion was exactly what I needed.
