I should be getting my Kaiser the end of this week. Is there anything I should do immediately after receiving it?
Getting the Kaiser because my 8125 broke (the usb breaking issue). I'm no stranger to flashing roms, but just wondering whats the scenario with the new device.
Will I notice a big difference as far as speed/performance compared to my 8125.
Thanks!
Visit SPBsoftwarehouse.com and checkout SPB Mobile Shell - SPB Diary and SPB Phone Suite. Then for fun SPB Brain Evolution.
Then later on get PHM Registry Editor (free).
Then look into memmaid for maintenence.
Check out dutty's rom (#7 I believe).

I'd probably opt for
1) SPB's pocket plus
2) Wisbar advance 3
I'd also get
a) PHM Registry editor (free)
b) TCPMP (free)
c) MemMaid
d) Kaiser Tweaks (free)
If you want GPS navigation
i) Microsoft Live Search (free)
ii) Google Maps (free)
iii) TomTom Navigator 6 (dependant on if you have Kaiser or variant, and where you live -- free/paid)
The Kaiser ships with "Sprite Backup", this is a an older version, but works OK. Dont contemplate changing if for the "Upgraded version" or SPB Backup unless you have issues
The Kaiser also ships with GPRS monitor, this is SPB's GPRS monitor under a different name.
You might want to use the HTC Home Customiser thats around, however backup your phone before doing so (I changed my clock font using it).
the first thing to know is that htc suck because there is no hardware acceleration for the qualcom chip coz they don t want to relese the driver lol

If I had to do it over again, I would not have gone for the Kaiser. As it stands, I will likely go back to my 8125 at least for a little while until some of the issues get worked out.
You may be better off finding a cheap 8525 from ebay to use until something lives up to what you would expect from the specs. The Kaiser has many issues. Here's a few
1. Many people have complained about poor Bluetooth headset volume. This might require purchasing a new headset.
2. Since the 8125 days, you now need to buy and adapter to use a standard 3.5 headphone jack.
3. Video playback is very poor
4. Game play for anything with 3D graphics (hearsay to me) is very poor.
5. TouchFlo - It is so buggy it is pretty much useless.
6. After several iterations of both moblie OS's and PC OS's, I still can not get music to "sync" without issues. It took me DAYS to get 4GB of music synced as I had to keep reconnecting. Every 40-50 songs. This had been a problem for me since WinMo 2003 and XP, and is still problematic with WinMo 6 and Vista. I have never been a big fan of iTunes, but at least it WORKS.
7. This depends on your supplier but for me, the AT&T ROM is chock full of useless programs and lacks most of the HTC supplied programs that ship with the HTC ROM. After several days trying to essentially get the AT&T ROM to look like the HTC ROM, I gave up and flashed a cooked ROM. It sucks that I had to go through all of this trouble to get the phone set up as I liked it. I feel sorry for people who aren't up to flashing a ROM, because the AT&T ROM is truely an abomination of marketing gack. More than 50% of the programs in the standard custom install are trial version that require you to spend more money for full functionality.
Anyway, I am a bit jaded. Considering I skipped a generation (never had an 8525) I had high expectations that this would be far and away better then my 8125. It is in some respects, but so far I think it has not been worth the effort and cost. Since I had an offboard GPS solution for the 8125, about the only thing that is better on the Tilt is the Bluetooth Stereo and compatibitly with WM6 programs. It's not even that much smaller.
Before you get the 8925/Tilt - screen protector, case, large microSD (they sell up to 8gb now).
As people are saying here, you may want to do the At&t bloatware removal trick. We have 2 Tilts in the house: 1 with, 1 without bloatware. I have the bloatware, and will do the removal trick next time I need to hard boot. Not a single thing on there I need, that I can't find on Xda. The bloatware takes up about 20mb of space! The other Tilt is running great sans bloatware.
Essential programs to offset some bugginess:
- KaiserTweaks (freeware).
- BandSwitch (free or pay versions) if you have 3G in your area.
- Conduits PocketPlayer 3.5X (sound is much better to me).
Utilities:
- DinarSoft MemMaid (not free), but it has so many functions all in one: It will help with Notifications/Alarms, it is a Registry Editor, you can reformat your microSd card with it (to name a few).
- Chi-Tai Dang BatteryStatus Today Plugin (free or pay versions). Will show battery, memory, card memory, cpu usage, phone minutes/data/texting...
- Spb Mobile Shell (not free).
Programs:
- Microsoft Live Search (freeware).
- ReenSoft PiePlus (not free).
Hiyas
Does anyone have a good small and light program that does the usual "silent", "outdoor", "normal" kind of profile management as the Nokias and SE's do??
I have tried to use a modified O2Plus (Which works on the Hermes but doesnt on the Treo 750), and Phoneweaver.
Are there any better suggestions out there?? I know SPB did have one but the last time i tried the trial version it completely slowed down the PDA and everything became very unresponsive
Thanks!!
My favorite application was SBSH PhoneWeaver on my Treo. I know you've mentioned this one, but if you ask me it's the most versatile and reliable profiler you can get!
You might also check PhoneAlarm and PhoneProfiles
Can anyone point me to other frontents for Windows Mobile like for example
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshel
PointUI Home was another one that I tried on my previous WinMob phone, it's very responsive and smooth but it's not the most attractive front end in the world. Also, not being able to see the clock and upcoming appointments at the same time got right on my tits. To be honest I've yet to come across a front end with a Today style screen that shows everything the default WinMob one does (i.e. date/time, tasks, appointments and count of unread emails/messages) which annoys the hell out of me, I don't understand how these various companies have spent time writing front ends intended to replace WinMob yet can't give us a Today screen that even has the functionality of the default one. Is it really that hard to do?
thanks, i tried and installes 1.51a of it, but nothing happens, still standard winmob frontend... how must i intall it properly?

If it's installed properly you should now have an entry for it in your Programs list, you can just launch it from there like any other application and I think it then remains resident.
On a related note I found this Wizbar app that seems to allow the customisation of WinMob though I haven't tried this one out. There are some themes for it here.
I'm very happy with SPB software though obviously it's quite expensive to buy. I think it has a free trial.
SPB pocket plus is a genius bit of software because it allows you to quickly select from up to 7 today screens each containing various today plugins and shortcuts. You get up to 6 tabs plus your regular today screen (when the tabs are set to auto-hide).
Other today plugins I'm using are Pocket Player, DevState 1.5 (as a task manager) and SPB Time, Diary, Weather and Mobile Suite (another great program). (Not cheap )
Here are some screens - the photo is a holiday shot from Turkey:
there is also vito winterface which is iphone clone...quite nice but nothing new. i still with manila
In order of importance;
1) Landscape keyboard. Which applications DOES NOT have landscape keyboard? Here are ones I would like to use the Landscape keyboard with, can somebody confirm them all?
a. HTC's SMS threading, b. Windows Live Messenger, c. Windows Live Mail/Hotmail, d. Microsoft Word, e. Calendar (date input), f. Notes app
2) I'm aware that the Touch Diamond 2 doesn't have 3g network in the US/canada. I'm not very familiar with the data connection and stuff, but is there EDGE at least?
3) TouchFlo3D/Manilla 2.5 - the new one with color tabs. Is it out? If i download Windows mobile 6.5 (officially, since TD2 is eligible for the update), will I get it? If not, how do i install the new TouchFlo3D?
Thanks to whoever can answer all my questions.
1) AFAIK all the apps you have mentioned are capable of using landscape keyboard.
2) Yes, EDGE at least.
3) Official upgrade comes with Manila 2.1, some of cooked ROMs out there come with Sense. Generally, it is possible to get Sense on Topaz.
i'm not sure about the calendar app...nvm, i just checked. it works in all of those (although i don't use live messenger...load of ****.
great phone to buy! (although i'd still rather have an HD2 lol)
zimmicz, thanks so much! big help
2) I know 3G is much faster then EDGE. But are there any benefits EDGE has over 3G? such as taking less battery power, stuff like that.
Drag-On, thanks too But can anyone confirm 100% if landscape keyboard works on Windows live messenger? It really is part of a deciding factor for me.
Also,
4) Which application lets you put tasks/to do?? I know the calendar lets you set appointments and it shows up in the homescreen tab, but where do we put tasks? I'm not very familiar with Windows Mobile (yet)
pk, just tested that live messenger crap for you. it works 100% in landscape mode (i use manual landscape mode, not the accelerometer sensing one...it's quicker and i don't accidentally tilt the phone)
4) Tasks are handled by the standard WM Tasks application. HTC assumes you can make do with the calendar and appointments (they're right, it's no real difference to tasks...imo)
ok, i've just tested the tasks thing (it's actually ok. also, the keyboard works 100%)
no reason not to go ahead and buy the phone then
I use EDGE almost all the time, 3G is just a battery killer, but very fast
I must say, the phone is capable of windows live messenger / word / notes, but if you want to type in landscape, the keyboard takes over 95% of your screen and you wont be able to see what your typing.. very annoying
Drag-On, Thanks so much
and to everyone else too!
Can anybody post a screenshot of the screen with both portrait and landscape keyboards? would be a big help !
also.. i will be getting this phone in about a week or two.. i CANT wait
I didn't take this picture, but here's how it should look
http://htc-phones.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/htc-touch-diamond2-keyboard-software.gif
Mine looks a tiny bit different, maybe because I have a custom ROM
Does the TD2 come with north american adapter/charger?
Does the touch diamond 2 (ones imported from europe/or bought online in their original boxes) come with the North american outlet charger?

probably not, however the standard charger is quite clever in the sense that you can keep the main body of the charger, but swap the type of plug.
have a look here (http://www.expansys.de/htc/p_htc_item.aspx?i=179244)
(first picture i found) and you will notice that there are other "fittings" available.
my box only came with the standard EU (German) charger, but i'm sure ebay or the likes will have the individual fittings.
Sorry, I wrote my post on wrong one.
Hi guys,
My dad's handed me his Vario III / (Kaiser 120) to use.
I did a reset using the option in 'SETTINGS' to reset it and lose all date. Now, when I start it up, it looks like new and the time/date has to be set. All my dad's contacts have gone. Cool. - 1. Was this a Hard-Reset ?
I went to something like SETTINGS > INFO and got this:
Radio Vers 1.70.18.02
ROM DATE 9/01/08
ROM Vers. 3.31.110.3 WWE
Build 19212.1.03
When I start it up, it says Windows Mobile v6.1
A couple years ago, I loaded tomtom navigator on it for my dad. It was really good with the internal gps.
Anyway, now that I have the phone, I'd like to install tomtom navigator on it, use the camera (maybe 10 photos a week) and upload pics to my PC, and browse the internet (email, twitter etc.) from time to time. Also, I'd use the handset to connect via bluetooth to my laptop so I can use it for internet (in emergencies, as it is kinda slow). I also text (3-5 texts a day)
I also downloaded an app called Shazam.cab from a site called mobilism, which I would love to use as I have seen it on my lucky friend's iPhone and the app is awesome!
2. Apart from the usb cable, and active sync on my pc, do i need anything else to install shazam on my phone/micro sd card?
3. I assume a ROM means operating system? Like windows xp, 7 etc.
I see that people are putting new ROMs on their phone. My phone has
Storage Free Space: 121MB and Programs Free 55MB. There isn't a lot of 'bloatware' hogging up resources on there, as far as i can see.
4. Do I need to install a custom ROM now that you know my uses (in blue font above) for the phone? / do I need to flash it? I.e. will a new ROM/flash make my life a lot easier? Better to convert to android system? Will I need to do any of these things to install shazam?
I was goin to do this on the weekend so I can use other sims in my phone:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
fingers crossed it goes ok.
Can you please help?
Thank you
Sonny
ps. I may need to ask a couple more questions after this. Once again thank you for your help. If anyone needs advice on cameras, please let me know as I am a regular contributor to a photography forum.
1. Yes, it was HARD-Reset (removes all settings, contacts, messages, ...). It doesn't do anything to the MicroSD card.
2. I don't know anything about that. Sorry!
3. Yes, ROM means operating system. There are stock ROMs and modified ROMs. For Kaiser (a.k.a. HTC TyTN II) you'll find only stock Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM and lots of modified WM 6.1 and WM 6.5 ROMs. There's no stock WM 6.5 ROM for Kaiser.
4. Android is not stable enough. Sometimes it crashes, doesn't wake up and so on... All your mentioned things can be done with both WM 6.1 and 6.5, so it's for you to decide what to use. WM 6.1 looks a little bit old and terrible, but it uses less resources than WM 6.5 which looks a little bit... like system that was made to be similar to iPhone OS. Yes, WM 6.5 is more finger-friendly, but the applications grid drives me crazy, it uses more resources (and loves draining the battery)
Thank you very much for taking the time to post. I found it really useful.
I stuck with original HTC ROM with 6.1 and I am loving it. Shazam works wonderfully well. The phone is so damn sharp. And, using 2 apps at once is brilliant.
Does anyone know if I can put more icons/apps on the TODAY SCREEN?
At the moment, I am only allowed to put 6 in the start menu screen, and 1 (tom tom) on the today screen.
My Start menu has: 1 File explorer, 2 organiser (i use the calculator a lot), 3 internet explorer, 4 MS word (for my notes), 5 shazam (use a lot), 6 Resco photo manager (for uploading to FlickR)
I'd like to add 2 more apps (wunder radio + core player) somewhere with quick access.
Any ideas?
Thank you
Try copying applications links (.lnk files) from \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ to \Windows\Start Menu\
I'm not sure if it's going to work with Windows Mobile 6.1, but it's safe to try
