There is internet phone function in WM6, so I like to upgrade my mda in order to use Gizmo project. If I upgrade it, will the system be very slow for the MDA with only 200 mhz CPU?

Well Its Your Choice
Well, trying is ever the development thingy issues... too much roms for try right here
with the lasts releases i cant see the difference between wm6.1 and wm5
Most of the programs that runs on wm5 runs too in wm 6 and wm6.1
but please... read everything before do everything... ask wathever you want. to avoid brick youir device

I know, there is a lot to read, thank you!
SO which is the most stable rom for 6.1 with internet phone?

Upgrading WM5 on i-Mate PDA2k

can anyone tell me the performance of WM5 on the i-mate PDA2k, is it slow,, fast?/, just tell me so i upgrade...thx
IMHO, it's unacceptable slow. I downgraded my device to 2003SE back.
No phone after upgrading my i-mate!!
After upgrading to WM5 my phone don't work anymore:
Error: Unknown SIM Status
Can you help me?
Thanks

Well, I must agree that WM5 slows down your PDA... for me its performance was kind of acceptable, but still noticeably slower. Especially if u install many applications.
I was just curious to see how WM5 looks like on my MDA III and how it works, but I haven't been satisfied with the results (slower and active sync couldn't recognise device)
so I downgraded it back to 2003SE. For now I think I'll wait a bit more to see how things with WM5 and this device will develop.
If u know why and what are u doing than u can try to upgrade, but imho if it ain't broken...

I was (really I am who knows if it will arise again) having this same problem. Have made a follow up to the problem and it seems like the error reproduces if you take the battery out of the device.
I was able to have SIM service again (after many attempts) by resseting it.
I thought it was a problem with my SIM (its already 4 years old). Is yous as old as mine?
Please note my device model.

I think it will depend on the kind of device you own. On my PDA2k (BlueAngel) WM5 runs even faster than 2003SE.
Some minor problems, though...
Agree with arieltools as my Orange M2000 (ba) runs perfectly acceptable.

Hm-m... Today I'm not sure. I've just tried again and have found that just flashed wm5 works pretty fast, almost like 2k3se. I suppose it becomes slow after some software is installed, maybe spb pocketplus 3.0 ore something... It's very important to make some hacks.
I switched registry to file mode, turned off animation and GUI sounds.
For more information try to search forum about tweaks2k2 wm5.

Yep, I agree with that. Just flashed WM5 worked really great for me, but than again, sync didn't work (yep, i could reinstall XP, coz i know that AS will work in that case) and as soon as I upped some software from other pc, WM5 started to sink... Just to explain, applications worked relatively fast when they started, but getting to them (start - programs etc.) was really slow.
If anyone has good performance results with MDA III (T-Mobile) and WM5 (with some applications on it) i would like to hear about that.

WM5 vs WM 2003SE on O2 XDA IIs

i have read the postings on the upgrade of WM5 on the Blue Angel device..
what i would like to know is what will WM5 do for me that WM 2003SE won't... are there any real benefits.. and do all the functions still work... wifi, gprs, phone etc..
i'm using the 1.40 ROM and don't really have that many problems..
every now and then the device resets by itself.. if i open the inbox, or change the phone on/off... otherwise it seems to run great.
is there any speed increase in using WM5 ??
any benefits in wifi or GPRS and emails ??
thanks..
hi
I had the opportunity to test WM5 in my himalaya device...
It wont be so different than yours but here is my 2 cents:
-Slower than WM2003SE
like 80% of WM2003 speed
-sometimes the cellphone rings once but for the other party is the 3rd or 4th ring.
-Lot of software bugs and incompatibilities.
bugs with camera and MMS
Camera= worse than the WM2003 one
MMS= I can send but when I receive, the page is blank (no objects, sounds, pics)
I just return to WM2003SE
Yes, is ugly than WM5 but is better, bug-less
hope this helps you.
Anyway, you can try WM5 and If you dont like it, go back to WM2003SE again, well at least work for me that way.
Same 2 Me...
I just get back to 2003SE...
But I miss the look of WM5
I'm back to 2003SE too!
The only thing i miss of WM5 is the Persistance Storage.
2003 gets my vote for now
I'm back to 2003, I ran several versions of the WM5 roms from Maimach. I can say that WM5 is fun, cool and all that but I didn't see any reason to stay with it. The persistent storage thing can be solved for me by backing up my contacts and appointments to a SD card along with the main apps I use on a daily basis on my SD card. Then when I lose power, I just reload the backup of my contacts database, re-load the apps from my SD card and I'm back up and running in just a few minutes. The speed and reliability were the two main reasons I came back. I ran WM5 for at least 6 weeks so I know I gave it a fair shot. I've found that I only use my phone for a few things:
1. Email
2. Phone (duh!)
3. Mp3 player (TCPMP)
4. Limited internet (google/froogle/weather/movie times/news/etc)
5. A few games when I'm stuck in traffic. =)
None of these functions were necessarily performed better in WM5, most of them actually were quite a bit slower but I decided to live with it because I was on WM5!!!
After going back to 2003 (1.42 rom) I was SHOCKED at how much faster it was. I had gotten so used to the sluggish performance of WM5 that I had forgotten what it was like to answer the phone on the first ring, watch outlook email open immediately instead of "within a few seconds" and not have skips when I listen to mp3's. Don't get me wrong, I TRULY appreciate the work Maimach and others are doing to get wm5 on our devices but it's more of a developers toy right now than an actual OS replacement for our devices. When they get a version of WM5 that's written for the xScale processor I think we'll see a HUGE difference.
For now, I'm back to 2k3 and not dissappointed at all.
Me 2
I am also back to 2k3 three weeks ago after 1 morning running 2k5.

Which version of ROM 2k3SE did you use...
I'm using 1.42.... Some times when someone call me, the name not show...even that number already in my phone book....
Thanks
i have used windos mobile 5 since the first version on this forum (yep with all bugs and no camera) i have tried all upgrades and versions. and i have all most satisfied with the wizard version (v2) its really more faster. but i onlgy have no problems if i dont use my BA . some times i don´t have fone, other time don´t have sms, mms. lots off crash, with gps and tomtom navigator very instability, every time i put some software in today screen, the BA crash.. etc. etc..
now i have finaly go back to 2003 (version 1.42) and use wall memory (like wb5) use the wisbar advance 2 and my Ba its great.. but i still come here to see if there is some advance in stability on the wb5 .
when the ppl off this forum "bill" a windows mobil 5 running at 95% i reflash my rom again
thanks guys for everything

w2003SE vs w5.0

I see that we still have a lot problems with w5 on our beloved blue angels.
Now, my question is: what is a major benefit to go from fast and reliable SE 2003 to W 5.0?
it's sluggish, unstable.
so, why we all upgrading-downgrading our devices up and down, is this a justified action to get a better OS or our desire to try something new?
Something new.
WM5 is a lot better than WM2003 but the problem is that there is no specefic official version of wm5 for blueangel, so developers reverse engineer other versions of WM5 and the leaked one from MS , to create stable OS. Latest WM5 versions are quite stable. None forces you to try WM5 if you don't like it downgrade and use WM2003
it's not about forcing me or someone to use w5.0, but what's better in this OS, what do you mean by saying better ? speed, stability extra functionality ?
I simply like it better
Its like WinMe vs WinXP
Well said TB. Kinda like, why are people instrested in Windows Vista? Windows XP work dunit? Acuttaly, don't answer that one.
Guys, you are talking very subjectivly:
like-don't like.
win me and win xp is quite dif. OS. Upgrading to XP gives us very stable reliable system with much more functionalities.
I simply like to see what extra features are in wm5, which are not available in SE.
so far we have OS with not 100% working BT, MMS, terrible ActiveSync, poor phone, etc.
I am very grateful to guys workimg on these ROMs, and thank them of course, but my question: is wm5 better than SE at all and what this better stuff is?
COM,
flashing OS takes about 15 mins. So, flash WM5, play with it. U can always go back to WM23.
And Wm5 to Wm2 is not like ME to XP. More like Win2K vs Win2K+service packs.
Well for me its a Me vs XP (My SE kept crashing and crashing, doublesending the same SMS, not sending MMSes at all, freezing when cancelling calls). WM5 drops Bluetooth connections, does strange things with the hw keyboard and works quite slow (I overclocked the CPU to 531MHz, it works... usable). But at least I can use my PHONE as a PHONE.
I agree with TB
I have many problems with 2003SE, 3-4 daily resets, because it hangs, when the battery and backup battery drains out you loose everything(such as in hard reset). I have no such problems with WM5 it is much stable and it is slower than 2003 but in the recent WM5 roms (Ivan's and Tuatara) the speed is improved and stability is much better than 2003SE
I like WM5 because it looks better, and the soft keys are very usefull. and you get to show off the nice and hard work of Mamaich, Tuatara and all others and say that xda-dev kicks ass!!!!
well, from what you are saying: wm5 is more stable !
Thanks, this is an advantage no doubt. let's hope we will soon get the final version from our gurus here.
By the way, should wm5 be a hardware independent OS, like windows XP and portable from one PDA to another?
Better not - due to XP's portability it eats up so much resources :| If you wanna try it yourself - Linux for example compiles (is compiled ) in order to match the HW configuration of the computer, while WindowsXP 'HasItAll, but mostly unusefull for your current hardware' :|
A new OS, which prevents your data from loss even at significant battery discharge, comfortable control without a stylus, improved Office Mobile. Noticeable cosmetic advantages.
...
Will there every be a BA Official WM5 release
no, microsoft made one and distrobuted it to the telecos but it is there decision whether to release it. as far as i can tell they will never do this as it doesn't make buisiness sense, why give a free wm5 update away when if you keep it too yourself people are gonna buy a new phone to get it?
but.. we are keeping our phones anyway hehehehe
(that's why we are on this phorum. Anyway..)
Hi,
I am using O2 XDA IIs for more than 8 months. I eagerly waited for the O2 update, as HP had offered to its ipaqs. But it was very disappointing that , instead of giving software updates; o2 started to show new models with Windows Mobile 5.0. I tried even from Microsoft site for upgrades, but that was a futile attempt. Then I finally decided to upgrade from XDA-developres.
You have to understand that major advantafe of WM5 over the Wm2003se is that data is not volatile; so there is no need to backup now and then.Secondly fast and secure. The major problem is that it needs faster processor. I hope it is helpful.

WM5 is slower than WM2003SE. WM5 best offering is persistent storage.
It is because it has NAND based rom. So, it doesnt offer XIP
Yes it is a lil slower than 2003 but it hte rom is properly build (Ivan and Tuatara roms) you will find no diference for speed, bu you will find a lot more stability. The CPU is not so important, we see devices with 200 MHz CPU to run WM5 just fine (Prophet and Wizard), of course they have a lil problems with multitasking but thay have only 200 MHz CPU, so you have to expect some lag. Blueangel have more than enough resources to run and operate WM5, we just need a properly tweaked rom for this device.

Newbie......want most stable 2003SE for QTEK 9090

At the moment I hate my 1 week old QTEK 9090.
To enable GPRS I normally have to reboot.
Sometimes to get Wifi and BT working I have to reboot.
GPRS drops out during a phone call
Sometimes I have to reboot when there is no sound at all on the device. Just no sound at all.
I have had it a week. Probably had to reboot it at least 3 times a day and the reboot is LONG!
Wow such a good concept let down by a HUGE number of bugs
What version rom and radio does your 9090 use? (start menu>settings>device information)
check here
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_Upgrades
for latest official rom release by your phones manufacturer. Possibly an upgrade is beneficial! Either that, or your phone may have hardware issues. Check your service provider for repair/rma services.
Good luck!
Thanks for that.
I will check. One issue I have a work around for....
I only lose sound when I close down Windows Media Player before I stop the music. Stop it first and then close and all is fine. That is a start.
I wish the ROM upgrades were simpler like on my Treo 650.....upgrade does a backup, flashes the new ROM and then brings back the data....
I found my device and rom on that link ta. So does that mean I have the latets for my device....
This is exactly my 9090:
Qtek WWE OP ID 1.40.00 1.40.147 1.12.00
Protocol version 1337.42
So I must have the latest ROM for my device...ripper.
Rom
Yeah you have the latest rom. when i 1st got my qtek i had some strange issues as well. what i ended up doing was to install a different rom (downgrade) and then install back to my rom (latest version). Hey presto my pda was running much smother.
Take your time to read all the info on the forum and most of all read wiki!! It takes some time to get used to wm2003se if your switching from palm. Have fun!!!
Thanks.
I have used many PPC devices as well. Last one was AXIM X50V. Before that was IPAQ 2210, IPAQ 1930.......
From the 2210 onwards everything was nice and stable.
Just this device.....!!
If I could get it to reliably start up GPRS and wireless every time I would be fine. BT is not such an issue.
Now I have solved my sound problem that is excellent.
good bye wm2003se
I will be really honest with you!!! when i was using my pda with wm2003se i had to soft reset my device 5-6 times a day....wifi being the biggest problem. needles to say it was critical to have a good backup software (Sprite). after being really frustrated i found this site....(thanks god)....know i use wm5 and guess what after 8 weeks i have not had to soft reset my device once. wm5 at the moment is not perfect but for me its stable and quick enough.
Cool....so moving my QTEK 9090 to WM5 what should I look out for? What are the issues? Will I get anything else? Lose anything?
Stability is 100% key for, but in terms of features, WM2003SE has everything i need. It just doesn't work all of the time.
What WM5 ROM do you recommend?
Oops I see Ivan....got a link?
So what is the best procedure to do the backup?
Can I easily go back to the original ROM?
Ivan 4.3
it really depends how you use your pda and what kind of functionality you want. for me speed and stability are essential. i dont use blue tooth to much just to transfer data...(no headset). as all users of wm5 will tell you there are pros and cons with each wm5 rom. my advice is to read the forums and pick a version that best suits your needs. in any case you will have to do some hacks to really bring the best out of your device on wm5. see my sig for what i have installed.
forgot to answer your question. to downgrade your device is much easier than to upgrade. before you go down this road please READ wiki carefully!!!

How to: Cooked ROM with WiMo 5 or 6.x ?

I have my HP 6515 for about 3 years now, and it's still working fine.
But even if it's updated to the latest official ROM from the HP site, the Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition on it, is just getting to old.
I think it would be great, if there would be made a cooked ROM for this device, with Windows Mobile 5 or 6. There would be some many more possibilities with this device, just with a ROM upgrade.
For example: the latest versions of DivX Player Mobile don't support WiMo 2003 (SE). I have to use one of the earliest versions to play AVI's on this device. It can play them fine, without hitches or errors, but you have to use an idiot old version, and you have to set the date to 2006 to get it working.
It's not because I don't want to buy a new phone or something alike (I have an HTC Prophet with WiMo 6.1) but I'd like to learn how to make a cooked ROM, and there's nothing better to experiment with than this device
What are the needs to create cooked ROM's, what software do you need, etc ?
I know there are people who can explain this to me on this forum, and I'm not afraid to learn (or brick my HP ).
Wow, it's great I'm getting so much response...
Does anyone here actually reads this ????????
Impossible
Don't bother anymore cause from what I've been reading it's not possible to put WM5 on iPAQ 65xx because of hardware incompatible memory, and if WM5 don't work WM 6.x is out of the questions cause it uses even more memory.
Have fun with WM2003SE.
yep!
even if you ask HP about it...
