Tones for Texts WM6.1? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Alright, I have read a few people being able to use tones for texts a lot easier using WM 6.1 -- how did you do this exactly?
I have put the tone in my documents but I have no idea how to apply it to texts? Any ideas?

do you mean how to apply any diffrent noise for texting or just custom? it's under sounds and notifications. other then that; i store all my text tones in storagecard/mydocuments. they should automaticly be added. Hope this helped.

When I go to sound notifications and select ringtones I can see the ringtone i want as long as it is in the my ringtone folder.
But when I select incoming text I can only see the default sounds and none of my ones in my ringtones.
Whats up?

Put them to /Windows. But this works only with wmv files.

Thanks that works brilliant.
P.s. to anyone trying to do this... u have to access windows thru ur pda, not thru ur pc.
Use File explorer. (top left screen in file exporer) navigate to My Device in there u ll see windows. U can copy and past ur file in it by going (bottom left) menu - edit - cut. Then go to windows and paste.

Just copy the mp3 or wav file to "My Device\Windows\" folder.
Go to setting\sound and notifications...you should be able to find the sound file that you just copied in the pull down menu.
hope it helps
Yes the file is there, I can select it pre-view it but when I get a new txt it does not work I tried other files as well and they also do not work either mp3 or wav.
thanks anyways

How to add a new "alarm" tone/sounds

Hate the supplied ones ! and have one in mind.... how can i get it to add to the list of Alarm sounds ?
thanks
Put .wav files in the Windows directory to use them.
Copy the WAV file into the Windows Directory on your device.
Then go into the alarm setup & it will be in the list.
James
at the moment its in the "File explorer" under my ring tones

Take them out of there... do the following:
1. Highlight the .wav files you want, Right hand and click Copy.
2. Connect your phone to PC and ActiveSync should start automatically.
3. Click Tools, Explore Pocket PC, open your device.
4. You should see "Windows". click it... It will take about a minute to open.
5. Scroll to the bottom of the page and right hand click and choose paste.
6. close and click the Time then choose the Alarm tab.
7. Click on the Bell icon and from the drop down window you should see all those .wav files you copied.
is this simple enough for you..?
Enjoy..

Just to add to the above - when looking for the Pocket PC Windows folder via ActiveSync, I found you have to set the PC folder options to display Hidden and System folders.

When I select the sound after step 7 it goes to "default" sound, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks
same here (HTC polaris, wm6),.. not the problem with copying etc but when I try to select the sound it jumps back to default,.. i managed to shrink the wav file with Audacity and Lame to 1.4Mb, i used just part of the song, w settings: 11025 Hz, 16 bit, mono (as low as the settings go, if I type custom Hz, eg 8000 the size stays the same).. i guess this has sth to do with the size of the file, i noticed someone talking about it being less than 600kb big,.. but have no clue how to make it even smaller (there's only 30 secs of song left).. any ideas
reflashed to the latest version and went to setup my alarm/textmessage sounds and none of the alarm wavs were there. bad flash? or just not included in the updated version?
Does the size of the file matter? I have the HTC touch with windows 6.1 and unfortunately the converted wave files show up but much like what other people have said once I go to set it as an alarm it doesnt work it just sets it to default. Ringtones work fine but alarm doesnt
Use the HTC Audio Manager
I was struggling with this and then I came across the Audio Manager.
If you load MP3 file to your phone ( I loaded mine into then the audio manager will find these and there is an option to make any of the files found the default ringtone or store it as a ringtone. These are then selectable using the normal Windows Sounds & Notifications in Settings.
No expert, but hope this assists.

Can't change Ringtone....

I'm running HTC Home on my tilt...Today I changed my default ringtone from a mp3 file to another mp3, but it didn't change.... I can play the files, so I know the files are good, but it will not change in HTC Home or under the system>sounds & notifications....
Anyone know what I need to do?
Firstly, make sure that your mp3 files are associated with wmplayer otherwise you cannot play mp3's as ringtones, secondly make sure that your mp3's for ringtones are placed in the device/rings folder. That should sort it out.
I moved the file to the rings folder, but it still changes back after I close the sounds window. The ringtone that it is currently using is a mp3 file in the My documents folder. How do I check to verify the program mp3s are associated with?

Can you go into the file explorer i nthe programs folder, then browse to the mp3 you want to use as a ring tone, hold the stylus down on the file and select "set as Ringtone" from the drop down list.
What does that do?

That's easy. What file explorer app do you use? If you use Total Commander (Freeware), then you can associate all mp3's with WMPlayer The WMPlayer icon should show on those files, then you know what app it's associated with. You go File>Properties, select the Associate tab and then select WMPlayer from the Device\Windows directory.
In Resco Explorer, you Tap and Hold file for a pop-up menu and then Open>Open with, and then select WMPLayer.
mskip... It's says "the file has been set as your current ring tone."... but it doesn't do it.
MACkjam.... I use just the file explorer from WM 6.1... the ringtone it's set on is a mp3 file so I would assume it has the proper assoc..
I deleted the mp3 file that was set as the ringtone... it moved down the list to the next mp3 file and now I can't change it......
I have tried changing the ringtone via:
1. File Explorer
2. HTC Home tab
3. System>sounds
In system>sounds, every time I try to change it, it looks like it's changed and then I can go back to see, it's just like before.
In HTC Home, it allows me to select another, but it never changes......
Is there a place in the registry I can make the change?

Does it allow you to set non mp3 RingTones? eg. the ones that came on the rom.
no, it is currently set as Ring-WindowsMobile.....I can't change it to anything else.... HTC Home still has the ringtone as mrbeannokia, but the system settings has the Ring-WindowsMobile....
It seems that I can change other sounds, like email and MMS sent...
Could this be a problem with HTC Home?

I have had the similar problem...haven't found the solution to this day.....but there's a workaround delete or move the ringtone which you're using now(ring-windowsmobile - [if it's in rom then you might have a problem deleting it...in that case backup your files...hardreset your phone and check if you can change ringtone on clean rom]) and then you should be able to assign a new ringtone. I've notice that the problem doesn't occur on "clean" roms so most likely some application is screwing up your "Feng shui"
Thanks Arturo... The ringtone is on the ROM, so I can't delete it.....I was hoping I could avoid a hard reset.....

Well in that case you could try to search for a program which allows deleting or renaming files in rom.(I'm not sure if such a program exists at all but it's worth trying if you don't want to hardreset your phone)

Yes; here: HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\Ringtone0 - edit sound
ie:
Code:
*vibrate*
is equal to vibrate.
Code:
\My Documents\My Ringtones\*put song/ringtone file name here*
" is the default file location.
Thank you zeezee...but I had hard reset my phone before I read you message....
after the hard reset, I installed all the programs I had before and tried changing my ringtones after each...every thing worked fine, until...
This morning, I could change the ringtone, but it would change back after a phone call, so I looked at everything that could set my ringtone and decided that Phone Alarm was the problem... I removed it and now everything works correctly....
I appreciate all the help y'all gave me....
Andy

lol yeah that is a bugger
What Rom are you using? Is it a stock rom or a cooked one? If it really bothers you that much then it might be worth just flashing a new Rom rather than spending your time trying to figure it out.
go in the registry and change the HKEY_Current User> ControlPanel > Sounds and deleted the key of FileSizeLimit.

I am having a problem even getting WM Player to update the Library with the songs from the storage card. It only shows my device as an option and not the storage card. I have taken out and re-inserted the memory card, but still nothing.
Same problem here, but different device.

Ringtones

I have the emobile touch diamond, Japanese version. I cannot figure out how to set my mp3s as a ringtone. It will only let me make .wma format into a ringtone. Can anyone help?
The easiest way to set an mp3 as your ringtone would be to do it from within HTC audio manager. Play your mp3 file in audio manager, click on menu-->Set as ringtone. Trim your file to play not more than 40-45 seconds since most carriers cant play a ringtone longer than that. After you trim it, select set as default ring tone.
Even if I play the track in the HTC audio manager the menu does not show "set ring tone" only allows me to add to playlist, properties, ect.
Hmm......ok. Do this, take your mp3 file...and save it in the following location. Using file explorer go to my documents-->my ringtones. Save your file here. Now go to start-->settings-->personal-->sounds and notifications-->notifications-->incoming call. You should be able to see your mp3 file in the drop down.
Good Luck.

that works.. but if you hooking your phone to the computer using activesyne.. they have an option when you first sync it to see if you want to sync music as well...
if you did that.. your Phone My Document folder will show up on the desktop.. and you should be able to see a folder name My Ringtones there.. copy and paste the ringtons you want in there..
and now just go back to your phone.. under Notification.. you should be able to see your ringtones under the drop down like syedimran said
Ya, something is different because it is a Japanese rom. It does have a ringtone folder, but the name is in Japanese. Even if I put files in there they do not show up in setting/personal/sounds and notifications/notifications/incoming calls drop down menu. It is very strange.
Might I suggest flashing a nice clean english rom then. Its gonna save you a lot of rework and its easier this way. Ofcourse the choice is all yours.
How would I go about flashing the rom? Would everything else work ok?

Flashing a new ROM would cause everything other than the stuff in your internal storage deleted.
You can backup call history, sms, e-mails, contacts using this program call PIM Backup (search it on the forum you will see it, or go under the ROM development section click on the Dutty 3.5b Final post and in the first page he has a link to PIM Backup)
Just follow the instruction from the Dutty 3.5b Final post and you will know how to flash a new ROM
of course you can also choose other ROMs of you choice but the same instruction applies to all ROM

Or in your \My Documents or \Storage Card\My Documents

Then go to settings<sounds and notification(or so)<tab notifications(bottom tab)<in dropdownmenu action choose messages new text message<then it should be in the dropdown menu.

I had to refresh this info because it was very useful to me and this solution was simpliest I found.
No need to convert Mp3 to WMA and it works. I use storage card method.
i cannot find my window folder so where can i put...
All my ringtones are in "Application Data\Sounds" and it works flawlessly. I can assign any tone to any type of notification.
