HELP with setting Wallpaper/background...plz - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hey guys, new to the site and the Tilt, but Ive done a lot of research without being able to get an answer to this issue with setting the background.
The only way for me to set the wallpaper the way i want it is to set it from file explorer, by holding down on the picture and setting it as the background without having to go into Pictures & Video. Doing it this way however the background comes out very faded and it does not ask you for the option of setting the transparency level. However if I do go into Pictures & Video and do it through there the wallpaper gets cut up in Landscape mode and I end up seeing 1 and a half wallpapers.
Does anyone know how to change the transparency level without having to set the background through the Pictures & Video folder???? I mean its not the end of the world but its so frustrating that the wallpaper is either Normal but Faded, or Full Color but distorted. I love the tilt but this particular problem is making me GRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHH

Mine doesnt become faded if I go through the way the book that came with the phone tells me to . . . . . . . .
Start----> settings----> today----> check the box that says "Use this picture as the background"
Using the browser that pops up, select the picture you want to use . . . .

i did it that way and the picture is faded but the wallpaper does not get cut up in landscape mode, how did you get it to not fade is there another option to set the today background transparency??

easy way to make a landscape and portrait wallpaper:
Let's call base file a "tutor.jpg" (best size is 240x320 - portrait mode)
Now:
1. Copy "tutor.jpg" 3 times, so you get:
-"tutor.jpg",
-"Copy of tutor.jpg",
-"Copy 1 of tutor.jpg",
-"Copy 2 of tutor.jpg",
(or similar),
2. Open "Copy 1 of tutor.jpg" with Windows Picture viewer, and rotate it as you wish but for landscape mode.
3. Do the same with "Copy 2 of tutor.jpg",
4. Change the names of files:
- "tutor.jpg" to "stwater_240_320.gif"
- "Copy of tutor.jpg" to "tdywater_240_320.gif"
- "Copy 1 of tutor.jpg" to "stwater_320_240.gif"
- "Copy 2 of tutor.jpg" to "tdywater_320_240.gif".
5. Copy all files to /Windows directory and overwrite current one.
6. Put the phone to landscape mode, and then again to portrait - it will change all wallpapers.
Hope I'm clear with that.
Side note:
tdywater files are for today background,
stwater filer are for start menu background.
240_320 - portrait,
320_240 - landscape.
Little bit complicated, but best .
Cheers,
Chris

The best way to do this properly is to create a new theme (*.tsk) with ThemegenCE for the PC. Just do a search here or on Google and you will find it (freeware). It's a great app!
Use any image and the app will crop it accordingly for both landscape and portrait.
If this is a bit too dauting for you then use TKCreator which is a freeware app for the device itself and you can create your own themes right on your device. Images should be as close as possible to QVGA dimensions, but the app will allow some latitude for cropping.
Good luck!

Background Image Help

Hi,
I'm trying to put a background image of a car on my today screen.
When i put it on its far to close (pic to big). With my old M3100 you could chose how much and where abouts of the jpeg you wanted as background is there anyway to do this on the kaiser?
I've tried changing the resoultion then it works in wide screen but tiles it in normal mode which looks naff.
Any help would be appricaited.
Thanks
Jason
Go to Start | Programs | Pictures & Videos - then find your image you want to use as the background; select Menu | Set as Today Background and you'll get a window showing what part of the image will be used on the today screen - use your stylus to drag the rectangle left or right to suit and then just OK your way back out.....
HTH,
Mark.
Thanks, but even if i do that it still tiles or i can only see a small amount of the car.
I have tried numorous resoultions on the jpeg then put it on my phone but still no joy.
rangeing from 200x200 to 1024x768
Any one had this issue before and solved it?
Strange....it seems to work for me as long as the image is not stupid-sized (like 1600x1200 off my digital camera ).....
The screen resolution is 240x320 so that should be fine as an image; you may want a 320x320 image so that it works for landscape too, although I think you have to keep the part of the image you want to the left of the 320 pixel width....
Of course, you could always use something like ThemGenCE to make yourself a theme with the picture(s) you want - that should work....your call
HTH,
Mark.

what is the best resolution to contacts tab?

i have pictures to some of my contacts.
in the contacts tab they look very blury.
what is the best resolution for this function?
the best are 256x256 pixels, because builtin rom pictures of unknown callers has the same resolution
However, when in Contact Picture mode, the built in camera takes 240 x 320 pixels pictures, so I would gather this is more appropriate?
Try 240x240.
non of those, tried all.
I'm using 480*640 for favourite people... Beautiful and very crisp...
If you sync contact pictures from outlook you can change it from Favourite people screen soft "menu" key..
I use many size, dependin on what picture i have. Myself, I use resolution range from 98x98 to anything bigger.
Then the Trick is, you don't add picture at Outlook, but instead, add picture at TF3D contact. That will get make picture stay very clear and sharp.
I do found that, contact I add with picture resolution at 98x98 (or something around that, i have both 98x98, 99x98, etc) stays clear after I flash rom and need to re-add people. Bigger resolution picture i added that were sharp and clear; some became blury after re-add.

great!!! that works.
There is a much easier way of doing this than resizing. You don't have resize any picture. I had the same problem until I discovered this very straight forward way.
1. Go photos and videos section of the touchflo.
2. click on the image you want to add to the a particular contact.
3. click on the image again once it appears by itself.
4. click on the icon on the far right, the menu icon.
5. select Save to Contact.
6. Choose the contact you want to assign the picture to.
You will have a very crisp picture.
Another method is this:
1. Go to the people section of your touchflo.
2. Add the contact you want to have appear there.
3. It will prompt to add a picture to the contact.
4. select one.
This will also appear as crisp.
If you already have the contact there all you simply change the picture using the menu. That should do it.
Thank you - that indeed works and the 3d pictures look nice and crisp.
Beats me what strange algorithm is behind that, but as long as it works...

Advice on how to make background fit

Can someone advise me how to get pictures from my pc to fit on the today screen rather than the mosaic effect it produces. i would really appreciate some help on this as it is doing my head in
Cheers in advance
Think you have to edit the pics at your PC using Gimp or anything similar.
Make it at least screensize (That is 800 x 480). Notice tehre is a difference if you set the picture in landscape mode or portrait mode. Not the full picture can be display because taskbar cuts off some space (And softkey labels, too). Don't know how much that is, but certainly not more than 100px.
That's easy.
Use 800 x 800 pictures,
the same size as DEFAULT, preloaded pics on X1.
This way on HORIZONTAL view the part of the pic will be displayed without need to repeat it.
Understand: having 800 x 480 pic makes device repeat it to fill the 800 size in horizontal view.
Hope I'm clear.

1) Find the two images within the windows folder called
stwater_480_800 and stwater_800_480
2) Understand that st_water_480_800 is the portrait picture
3) Understand that st_water_800_480 is the landscape picture
4) Create your own custom images with matching or corresponding pixel resolutions: 480_800 and vice versa
5) Replace these st_water files with your custom images
6) Don't worry about replacing the st_water files... st_water files are never original files, so you do not need to back them up.

Actually that is for the TODAY screen. Unless there is such thing as the TODAY Panel? Or you just mean default?
That instruction is correct.
stwater_480_800.jpg is Portrait and stwater_800_480.jpg is Landscape. Just replace them with your picture and you will be set...

lol lol lol
the easiest way and the best way, is to make all images 800x800, browse to the folder using the pictures and video application, tap and hold the pic with the stylus until a menu appear and click on 'set as today background'
then set the transparency according to your needs, set it to 0% if you want the full pic to show as it is, then click ok
this is the best way to set your wallpaper in windows mobile
if your image is 800x800 then you have no issues with portrait or landscape
this method can set wallpapers in both L & P using one image as long as the image is at least 800x800, and yes you can use any pic
using this method you do not need to replace anything, this is a waste of time >>>stwater_480_800.jpg is Portrait and stwater_800_480.jpg

Not really, doing that makes the background look the way you please.
Instead of random way the winmo decides to display the 800x800 image, all out of focus and all over the place. Maybe the pictures of sky will look great but a picture of Megan Fox will look terrible!

no dude, obviously when u scale the pic to 800x800 you make sure her face would be center, then when u set it as wallpaper, adjust the box around the image in landscape mode, bcos obviously its already set centered in portrait once u made her face center b4 u scaled the image...btw megan fox aint getting no free marketing from me, she aint family to me so i aint want her face on my x1 lol that goes for any celeb
also note that this method allows you to move the box to set the image as you like,
now why would a person want to rename and replace images every single time i want to set a wallpaper?
i for one change my wallpaper almost everyday,on both my laptop and x1, and i do have tons of images on my memory card, changing a wallpaper should not be such a hard task as renaming and replacing, it should be simply selecting and adjusting
this method u can change a wallpaper in less than 6 seconds
the sony ericsson panel now is where u have no choice but make both P & L
in my opinion, making P & L 480x800 and 800x480 images for wallpapers is too much of a hassle and i would only do that if i wont be changing wallpapers for a long long long long time

agreed!
tried different resolutions...the best is 1280x800. Try it. no problem in landscape mode. 800x800 doesn't work well at all!!! it goes center in portrait mode but not in landscape mode
Haha, I never thought about this, because I have been using only one wallpaper since I got the device - pure black!
Let me point out a very nice app called "picture resizer" that helps a lot.

Wallpaper's and any Launcher -- arghhh

Arghhh how the heck are you guys getting your photo's to display correctly ( as wallpaper ) on the NC after you install any Launcher on the market !! ... this is horrible. The images are all zoomed in and cropped off no matter what I try.
Set it through the nook. Nook button -- settings -- home (under app settings) -- set wallpaper. This was mentioned in another thread, I'm just repeating the answer.
Search for Wallpaper Set & Save - that's what I used.

I tried that app. With any Launcher that I have tried, Set and Save still does not format the wallpaper correctly. Seems as soon as you replace the stock Launcher nothing will set a wallpaper correctly.
I wonder if there is a way to pull a stock wallpaper of the nook then push a new one into the /system/wallperps folder via the shell ...?
Check your other threads on this same topic and you will see I have already answered this for you. Go to the nooks original home screen and set the wallpaper there. Turn the device to landscape and discard the first try at wallpaper then select. You can just put a folder on your sd card called wallpapers and they will show up in the nooks photo gallery automatically.

New wallpaper is zoomed way in and pixulated. :O(

Ok. When you get the portrait crop box - DO NOT hit save. Rotate the nook into lanscape first then Hit discard (trust me). When you discard the first image orientation it will give you the option to crop the same image in landscape format. Crop the second image option and then save that one.
Ps. You should see two tabs when selecting to set wallpaper. One labeled wallpapers the other should say pictures (I think). If not, try putting some wallpapers in a folder on you sdcard.

Ok I see now what you mean. And yes that did work ... sort of ... After I hit the discard button the picture reset and the crop box changed to a landscape size. But .. even tho the photo changed and the crop box changed, I can not fit the entire picture in the crop box. The picture I am trying this with is a portrate picture of my kids standing up. They fill the entire picture, but I can only get the new crop box to frame in either the top half or the bottom half of the picture. If the crop box was to rotate then they would fit in the frame perfect. Right now I can only see their chest and heads. But it did fix the problem about the zooming in. Any other thoughts mate ? and THANKS
Just to confirm, I'm trying the same method and seeing the same (picture doesn't fit) behavior.

hmmmm... what is the size/resolution of the image you are using? you may need to resize the image with photoshop or one of the free image editing programs. Maybe cropping the image on a pc then transferring to the nook. Glad this could at least get you started. Thanks for asking the question cuz I am gonna load pics on the two NCs that I got my kids for xmas so that they are personalized when they start them up that morning. Now I know that I have to do some photo editing before hand. When I get it done, I'll post a little tutorial on the steps.

[GUIDE][FREE] Making a live wallpaper that reacts to music with ZERO programming

Hey everyone, I've been a long time lurker on the XDA forums, but I recently discovered something really cool last night that I wanted to share.
This is my first how-to guide, so please be gentle.
I've found an easy way to make a live wallpaper that reacts to music, all without needing to do any programming. I basically stumbled upon it by accident while trying to debug my own app (will do a full write up of it later because that is an interesting story), but the tl;dr of it is that there's a trivially easy way to repurpose the GlowHeadphones Live Wallpaper app into showing any image that you want and make it react to your songs.
Steps to try what I made:
1. Install the GlowHeadphones Live Wallpaper app (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ly.glowbrilliant.lwp).
2. Download the attached zip, unzip it, and put the "glow" directory into /sdcard/glow/ on your Android device. Simplest way would be something like:
cd DIRECTORY_CONTAINING_UNZIPPED_GLOW
adb push glow /sdcard/glow/
3. On your Android device, go to live wallpaper settings and re-select Glow as your live wallpaper to trigger it to reload. Instead of the normal spinning circles wallpaper, you'll get my version. When there are beats in the music, you'll see the black/white Android image light up into green. Here's a video of it: dropbox.com/s/fnlpnl1cl7yefrb/VID_20150124_110511.mp4
Steps to make your own:
1. Change the contents inside the "glow" directory into what you want.
2. Push to device, reload wallpaper, and enjoy!
The key to making your own wallpaper is to have two images, a bottom layer and a top layer. You define these inside custom.xml. The bottom layer is what is shown when there is no music/no beat playing. The top layer is what fades in when it detects a beat. You can control how much it fades by setting minAlpha and maxAlpha (number between 0.0 and 1.0).
Important things to note:
1. custom.xml MUST be put under /sdcard/glow/custom.xml
2. You can put the images anywhere, but you need to make sure to put the full path into custom.xml. For sanity, I recommend just putting the images directly inside /sdcard/glow/
3. Technically you can put more than 2 layers and have them have different min/max alphas so they fade in differently. I haven't made anything good yet with that, but I did try and it seems to work.
This is only scratching the surface of what's possible to mod in this wallpaper. I'm still trying to work out everything and I'll post more as I figure it out, but being able to trivially make a music visualzing live wallpaper is pretty damn cool and I wanted to share.
Backstory for anyone who is interested:
I had installed the Glow live wallpaper because I thought having a wallpaper that reacted to music but done with a material design-ish style was pretty cool and missed the original spectrum live wallpaper from stock Android way back when. While poring over adb logcat to debug an issue with my own app, I noticed two interesting lines:
I/ActivityManager( 250): Start proc ly.glowbrilliant.lwp:ly.glowbrilliant.lwp.wallpaperservice for service ly.glowbrilliant.lwp/.GlowWallpaperService: pid=13656 uid=10066 gids={1028}
W/System.err(13656): java.io.FileNotFoundException: /sdcard/glow/custom.xml: open failed: ENOENT (No such file or directory)
This was strange, the wallpaper was working fine. But what was this "custom.xml" file it was trying to open up? I pulled the apk off my phone and decompiled it and found that there was xml parsing logic for loading a completely custom wallpaper! I tried some of the tags and attributes, and voila, next thing I knew, I had a fully working music wallpaper that was customized with images I had picked.
Will write this up in more detail later - right now I have to stop procrastinating and get back to my original bug, lol.
Followup - figured out how to hide the countdown message.
All you need to do is put in a <dash /> tag in custom.xml BEFORE the bottom layer.
Attached the improved version.
