I cannot get any thing to work with Windows Vista. I never had problems with XP and my other Wizard. I had it replaced through the insurance. Please help me. I have been through the threads claiming to have some way of tricking Vista with old drivers. I have installed them and had no change. Read all the threads!!
So Dont do it!!!
Man some versions work some doesnt... TRY XP men if you dont have problems since your first Wizard and xp use.
Dont be in panic mode, is not prooved even if many thread said that.
I'm just pissed, i had a great ROM running on my old phone. now i am stuck with a computer running Vista Ultimate and Mobile 5 on he replacement phone. I was hoping somebody found a way to run these Roms through Vista successfully.
Vista support for Windows Mobile is really hit and miss, it works for some, and not at all for others....your best bet is finding a friend with XP and upgrading it there.
Not G4 specific, moved > Upgrading
i use vmware with an xp image to mod my phone, i run vista x64.
Upgrade vista with all available service packs then download the latest version of WMDC from microsoft
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center.mspx#download
and try flashing then
If you still have problems try replacing the ruuupgrade files with Muns ones and use these to flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=52404&d=1190997171
if that doesnt work then you havent done what i just said

I cannot flash my Wizard now that I have Vista 64-bit. I have followed many different methods that I have found on XDA in the last few days. I've downloaded and ran many different RUU tools, nothing gets me past the RUU crashing.
The one problem that I get hung up on is while installing a new driver for the Pocket PC (wceusbshx64.inf) in device manager I get the error message that the driver is not signed, I click next anyways. I then get the following message "The driver may be corrupt or missing (Code 39)".
Any other ideas? I'm having flashing withdrawals.............
Thank you for your help
Anyone that knows away to get around the above problems? Luckily I still have my XP computer upstairs, so I can still flash new roms. But I would like to keep it all on one computer (Vista)
Thanks

Thanks, I remember seeing that thread before. I'll have to find XP and give it a try. The XP disk I have is for another computer so I'm not sure it will work.

I'm trying to upgrade to a WM6 ROM, and I am having problems. Vista keeps telling me the update utility has stopped working right after it restarts my phone into the bootloader.. Does anyone have any experience doing a ROM update with Windows Vista??
I cannot get any rom upgrade to work under vista and mdc. I too am trying to update to wm6 but without any success. It is really pissing me off.
One of the reason I'm not upgrading to Vista yet even tough I've got my business version for free...... Does it work if you try putting the phone on bootloader before starting the utility in vista?
This was a problem I had yesterday. Because i'm having a Vista only PC I went to my neighbour and updated de WM6 Rom there in Windows XP. When I came home again and wanted to install some things like Pocket IRC and Total Commander the problem still exited.
Then I decided to take a peek on Windows Update for Vista and there was a ActiveSync update for Vista. Now everything works fine now I've updated it. Maybe you could do try the same thing.

This is true. I'm to damm used to the old name. But whitout the update I didn't saw the old sychronisation pictogram in the taskbar. After the update it appeared there and everything worked liked it should. Before the update it was impossible to install roms and other applications voor Windows Mobile. Now it works fine. It was an update called something with "Windows Mobile Remote Adapter" in it.
this has been covered already use the search function.. you can dual boot using vmware and so on..
Hi, i've read the "How to" from this URL http://trinityguides.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=20&Itemid=66 but with no success.
Device Manager shows an error code 39.
I just don't understand, i followed everything without errors from the start.
what can i do now ? i want to reflash my radio rom from 1.50.08.11 to 1.46.30.11. My battery was draining slower with that one.
Thanks !
first of all, it helps if you post this under the thread for trinityguides...
you had your device in bootloader and connected before step 2?
are you vista 32 or 64?
it's quite strange cause most people had success with these steps. How have you flashed your ROM in the past?
same for me. the reason is that vista isnt able to install the drivers when the bootloader start.
vista 64bit only works with signed by ms driver be that videocard drivers or pda drivers
if you ask me 64bit is not yet for primetime
drivers are few and limited
support for many external things are non
funny to see how pc entuthieasts pay that much for
vista ultimate when the only thing they get is the 64bit option
and backup and some crypting options which if they ever use
they'll cry salty tears when they have to reinstall and cant
get access to their data anymore
ultimate dont mean it's faster or better
just that one gets the full ms bloatware packet
yeah... the guide shows how to load the unsigned drivers though...
are the two of you running 64 or 32bit vista?
his title "Unable to flash under vista x64"
the x64 would sugest that he's using the 64bit version
mmm... you are observant haha... can't believe i missed it
Same problem here, did what was written in the trinityguide (twice now), but to no avail. Code260 (no connection)
Vista64
-EDIT-
Fortunately my laptop runs on vista32bit, update works like a charm on that one...
hmmm... this is getting strange...
so you followed the 64bit instructions for unsigned driver that are in the popup window? (on trinityguides)

Yep, every step, including the unsigned driver stuff (have used that for other programs too, it worked before). Did it twice, no error messages apart from the error260 while trying to update the device.
There must be people who do manage to get it to work, but not me (on the 64bit vista)
yeah, i'm really sorry to hear that. Most people have been successful. Every once in a while, someone reports that they have had trouble with it, but i don't have vista x64 to troubleshoot.
i remember reading in another forum about someone with the same error saying that some kind of optimization option he had selected for vista was the culprit. I think he ended up reinstalling vista with default options and was ok..
(i know that's not really the answer you're looking for, but just thought i'd throw it in there )
hey i was just thinking...
do you want to see if any of these other methods of disabling driver signing work for you, listed in this post
it works under vista x64
If you enable automatic update in vista x64, and you plug in your trinity, after a few minutes a update will appear from microsoft asking that there is a update for your trinity, install it and my phone works and was able to flash new roms on it with this update....i have windows vista ultimate x64 edition...
great tip... the_stranger or simkard, can you try this and verify if it works? i'm sure a lot of vista x64 users would be thankful to know
forgot somthing
if you have updated the drivers from microsoft, put your trinity in bootloader and then in "device management" select your trinity and select update drivers...if not your not able to flash.....

Has anyone got this to work? No one mentions Win7 in the thread about replacing drivers to get Vista to work and don't want to mess up my ActiveSync (which works) if I have another choice? Any advice would be great!
P.S. I don't have a XP machine available, converted both to Win7 beta.
I would like to think there would be no problem you'll use the same WMDC as vista, but if you not sure flash the rom from the sd card, just rename it to blacimg.nbh (.nhb whatever? lol) and copy it to the SD main directory, once you enter bootloader follow the on screen instructions and it will flash the rom, I prefer this as it is faster then using the pc
Windows 7 is working excellent

Hello,
I have a Windows 7 latest build working. Just install WDMC (same version as vista mentioned above!)
It's working without any modifications and even much more stable then vista. It uses also less memory then Vista.
It is a very good choice apart from Windows XP -> Vista is the Beta version of Windows 7!!! ;-)
Many Thanks
Roman

I had nearly every build of windows 7 started with 6801 over beta 1 (7000) up to 7068 now and it worked on every version 32bit and 64bit! Just use the mobile device center ;-)
I've had no problems with win 7 synched to my Touch phone
No Problems with Win 7 no need to install anything to contact phone just use the mobile device center.
Ditto, works perfectly. You'll find Windows 7 installs some drivers the first time you connect your phone which may mean your flash times out while it waits. Just let the drivers install and the re-run the RUU and it'll start to flash
Running Windows 7 RC1 (7068) and no issues whatsoever
i couldnt HardSPL on windows 7 but other than that it works great with the HD.
I was trying to use USPL and that doesn't work (get USB in bootloader but the exe fails as can't find the usb port), guess I could try HardSPL but liked the idea of USPL. can you run USPL from the memory card?
did you change the usb drivers to the old ones? and turn off usb in active sync (on the pc)
I've done it on Windows 7 like the other users with no issues.

Install Vmware Workstation 6.5 and then create a new windows XP virtual machine.
Map you usb to the VM whenever you want to flash using USPL and not only. It works perfect!
ok thanks guys, sounds like using the old drivers will work, but Vmware sounds like a perfect solution will try that.

This is funny.... I would love to know how you have RC1 when its not even been produced yet / hit testing stages of RC
To clear up some comments on Windows RC1. The leaked version of Windows 7 build 7068 in the license agreement says Release Candidate so people are thinking its RC1.
No biggie.
For those who want to upgrade from a previous version of Windows 7 Beta to Build 7068 understand that it WILL break your Windows Mobile Center 6.1 - when it tells you that its not compatible with the 6.1 version in the upgrade it means it. Don't mess with it. Install a fresh copy or you will not get it to work. Even if you download the 6.1 version to re-install.
For those who are installing the HTC for the first time it will say that it cannot find it. That's okay. Once it cannot find it - refresh your windows update and it will find a new driver. once that is installed it will try to install a another driver and it can't find that one. Refresh Update again and it will then find the final driver and Windows Mobile Center will recognize the Touch HD.
Guys, I have ActiveSync working (I am on Win7 7000 however) but was trying to flash (and yes, I had 'unticked' allow USB). This is what was failing. Can't find an XP disc so will try the older drivers as per the solution for Vista. Thanks for all the help.
search for VistaRUU on google for the older driver. It should work just fine under windows 7, I've used it to flash my friends' hermes.

Are you Vista x64 or Vista x86? Either way check the information on step (0) of the guide in my signature. You need to update the driver for your HTC USB Sync.

Run it from a command prompt window instead so you can see the error text before it disappears
if i run it from the command prompt i got exactely the same error like the threatauthor. then i tried some things and now it works! i don't know what i ve done
thanks a lot for the help
btw, very good guide!
i also got the error message "no response from device"
i have the old driver (from 2009) installed.
also vista, but 32bit
anybode can help?
I have actually followed the guidance on modaco earlier and have successfully installed cooked ROM on my HD using USPL, but after upgrading to 1.56 now when I try to follow the guide and install the driver an error msg comes up saying "Windows has encountered a problem" and the driver does not get installed. I have no idea why it is not working as I know that I have done everything right, and btw I have 32 bit vista. Can anybody help? For the time being using HSPL, but would like to have stock SPL instead.
Try to change the USP port where you phone is connected. Just connect the cable to other port. This helped me once.
try this:
in your command prompt window (which you have set to run as administrator), navigate to where the exe is.
then type blac_uspl.exe (i think thats what its called) BUT DONT HIT ENTER
then, put the usb cable into your touch hd. as soon as it says USB in bootloader mode, hit enter and it ought to work then, provided you do it quick enough.
this worked for me when i had the same issue.
weird.
i tried to flash it about 15 times. 10 times this erroer message. then i was able to install uspl! wow.. but the flash-process stopped at 0%.
so i tried again and again and then it ahppened. i flashed that stupid rom
i didnt chance anything. i just did the same as before. so i dondst know what the exact problem was.
but ok. wating for the next rom which i wanna flash
thanks for your help!
I am running the new 64-bit, Release Candidate of Windows 7. Despite booting to allow unsigned drivers (F8 on boot-time), Windows 7 still rejects the USPL driver. I did browse to the USPL GUI driver for 64 bit. Worked fine on previous Windows 7 beta.
Anyone else have trouble?
did you try running in compatible modus??
On the file properties.....
Did you try downgrading your drivers?
I had no problem with HSPL, but with USPL I had to downgrade drivers, which casued all sorts of problems when trying to do normal operations with WMDC.
johnshep ...
Have you tried the new Windows 7's XP Mode feature ...?
... review here ... and ... download here ...
Works like charm on my PC, running x64 W7, build 7068.
Guide by Digital Outcast in first page
PLs read the Dummies guide written by the great "Digital Outcast" and you shall know what your problem is and how to solve it, it really helped me i am also using win7 x64 release candidate 7100 build. pls read the wiki for more info. have a nice time flashing
i did it just how i'd being doing it in vista and it worked just fine. My only problem was my internet security suite being overzealous.
Since it's actually a command line application, I don't think the compatibility feature is available...will try when get home from work. If this is expereinced by othjers, weill need new way to run USPL. I did notice there were updated drivers for our phones, in RC1, but you still can't flash using those new drivers from Microsoft
