TILT Camera issue after installing CAB file - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Over at http://www.htcwiki.com/page/ATT+TILT (HTC TILT WIKI) The second to last item above under "New Features, Software, Resources and How To's:" is "AT&T Tilt (Kaiser) Camera HotFix:" which contains a CAB file to "correct the cross pattern under Zoom when using the camera on your AT&T Tilt (Kaiser, TyTN II)" After installing this "fix" I no longer can see what I am taking pictures of...The "viewfinder" screen on the camera is dark. I do get all of the options "x", "Photo", 1x, Album, and Menu....but just the camera does not show what I am taking a picture of. After taking the picture , the actual picture displays correctly, but in the "picture Taking mode" it is blank....Any suggestions? The phone takes pictures OK, you just cannot see what you are taking a picture of!

I am having the same problem! Can any of the HTC geniuses help us?

Camera => Album = black (blank) screen?

I've searched and read (and read and read) but haven't found a solution to this. Maybe I've missed it. If so, please point me in the right direction.
I upgraded my new Tilt with Dutty's Diamond V1 (WM6.1) ROM. It has a new camera (v 5.04, build 29195) installed. When running, I can take pictures just fine. However, when I click on the right-pointing arrow in the lower-left corner, it's supposed to link me over to the photo album but all I get is a black screen. At this point, I can press on the "windows" button and launch Today where I can see that the album has launched and is running, but when I select it, I only see a black screen.
Is there a fix for this?
i got the same issue
your camera works fine? where are the photos saving to?
The camera works fine. I can save the pictures to either the device or the storage card - both work.
Some pix
Just so it's clear, I'm posting a couple of pictures. I used MyMobiler to capture the screens which, unfortunately, does not capture the camera image in the first frame.
The first frame shows the screen (sans what my camera was seeing). The red circle highlights the "Album" button.
When pressed, I get what you see in the second - nothing but black. The phone's not locked up, however. It's just not displaying anything. No album - nothing.
And finally, in the third screen, you see that both Camera and Album are running. Album was launched, apparently, by the screen tap in the Camera application but doesn't seem to quite get it right when launched this way.
Ideas?
so you have a black screen when using camera, but it still takes pictures, if that is the case try another radio.

its not a radio problem. i think it has something to do with a broken album link in the camera application. im looking for a solution as well, as i am having the exact same problem on my own cooked rom

No. I don't have a black screen when using the camera. I see things just fine when using the camera. Works just like you'd expect. What you're seeing above in the first pic is an artifact of the screen capture program.
The anomalous behavior begins when trying to launch the album from inside the camera application. That's when the screen goes black.
My initial thinking was as mbarvian has floated - a bad link or some bad parameter passed from inside the camera app. I was hoping that this could be fixed with a registry edit, actually, but couldn't find a registry key that offered promise.
(BTW, I tried re-flashing the ROM but that didn't fix the problem. Just another data point to consider.)
So, nobody has a solution? Are others seeing this or just the two of us who have posted? I guess it's just something we live with until the day it's fixed?
Same problem same ROM...
when i had windows 6.0 i went on the htc website and downloaded 3 hot fixes for my phone ,then when i updated to the orange 6.1 version of win mobile i had the same problem as you ,( black screen on camera ) anyway i uninstalled the hot fixes ( they are not required on 6.1 version ) camera is now ok
Also, same problem... same rom.
stop taking pictures of only black things...

Well, if it can't be fixed, I may as well have a laugh over it, eh?

Yours may be slightly different than mine. I don't really get a black screen on the camera - only when I launch the album viewer from inside the camera application.
The "same issue - same ROM" responses at least give me a measure of affirmation that there is a known unresolved issue. For now, I'll just manually launch the album from the launcher where it seems to work, and avoid using the call from the camera app.
maybe using advanced config. and making sure the photos are saving to My Pictures might help

Set to that by default already. Tried swapping it to DCIM just to see what happened but that didn't work either.
camer w/black screen
after upgrading tilt to wm 6.1, my camera takes photos, but the screen is black, no preview, until AFTER taking the photo, then it appears briefly. is there a CAB fix for this. please help
I think it may have something to do with the version of the camera fix. I noticed the problem this weekend after updating to the ATT Official 6.1 ROM. Installed a newer version of Nadavi HTC Camera and when i went into the camera all I can see was a black screen. I'm using 5_0_4_2915 which seems to have corrected the problem for me.
where can i get this version that you tried? i am having the same problem

HTC Album incorrectly rotates pictures...sometimes

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed that occassionally (and seemingly more and more frequently) pictures that I take with the camera are either incorrectly saved in the wrong orientation or are being displayed in both the TF3D tab and the HTC album in the wrong orientation.
In other words, in HTC Album, when I hold the phone in portrait mode, the picture shows in landscape and when I rotate the phone to landscape, it switches to upside-down portrait mode. It's like chasing your tail! Really frustrating! It also displays landscape pictures in portrait and vice-versa in the TF3D tab as you flip through the photos.
This doesn't happen with every picture, but I can't seem to figure out any pattern that would illuminate the cause of the problem.
Am I alone in this? (I have a Euro Diamond)
You Are Not Alone!!
I have been having the exact same problem, and its becoming more and more frequent!
It is fustrating tho because when you are holding the phone in a portrait position and you have a landscape picture, you instinctively try and the phone sideways to see the picture straight....but this just turns the picture so your looking at it the wrong way again!
Its weird how some pictures arent affected and some pictures which are taken right after the non affected pictures are affected!
try to make sure your device is fully upright, perpendicular to the floor. i have a feeling your g sensors are not calibrated and your devices are confused with odd angles. give 'er a try and post results
Yeah, I've experienced this too.
Are you guys using the Gsen app cos I'm wondering if it's that which is having an effect?
Just in case you don't know, you can edit them so they show the right way round using Pictures & Videos in Programs, just select the offending pic and select edit from the menu, then rotate and then just hit ok in the top right corner once you have it the way you want.
I have this problem and it is very annoying, I have the HTC 1.93 ROM and don't use GSen (at the moment). It would be great to find a solution to this problem.
I think this is just a major design flaw in the HTC picture viewer. It's one of the major reasons I use other software instead.
Having the g-sensor enabled in a photo application is just f*#&ing stupid IMO. It totally fails to handle the fact that people often rotate the camera when they take photos. Most people find it easier to rotate the viewer rather than mess about with image editing ... but when they try, the g-sensor f*#&s it up for them.
It's tragic and funny seeing my friend (who still uses the HTC software) having to bend his neck right the way over to view his own photos. And what is with the inability to change the sorting behavior?!!

I think this might be because when you're taking a picture, you should be holding the phone in landscape mode, when you take a picture in portrait mode your phone will rotate the picture like that.. i ALSO had that problem. try it and let me know
Are you using G-Sen?
If you have had G-Sen on then toggled it off, photos will be in the wrong orientation.
If you do a soft-reset without g-sen loaded, pictures are taken correctly.
Solution: if you are using g-sen, make sure it is toggled on before you take a pic.
That's what i found works for me anyway.
I have the exact same situation. But the photos weren't taken with the Diamond, and I have more than a hundred of those. They are, for the greatest part of it, taken in landscape mode and it thinks they are in portrait mode.
Is there a way to change their orientation massivly ? I mean it would take me a life to rotate them one by one.

Place a very large mass next to the diamond, in order to confuse it about which way is down.
It'll be much quicker to alter the orientation on your desktop pc - but it'll have to be a manual one-by-one job. AFAIK, there's no way to do it automatically because it's impossible for any software to know which way up each photo is supposed to be.
Or just use a better viewer without stupid g-sensor usage.
Edit: Another thought... if you change the orientation of some of your pictures (after taking them) then you'll find that they're out of order in the album because the time/date stamps have changed! 3rd party software really is the way to go! /rant
ok, it's been a month, i just found this thread. i have the touch pro but having the same problem. the htc is calibrated just fine. anyway to fix it? htc is so notorius for bugs, can't believe that one slipped.
any better touch oriented album viewer to replace the htc album app? also, would the camera app know to switch to other album prg or always insist of this damn buggy album prg ?
thanks

G-sensor in Albums

I have a weird thing going on..
When I view pictures using the Albums app and I have the unit sitting upwards, the image displays in landscape.
When I turn the unit sideways, the image rotates back as if the unit was upright.
Without hard-resetting... does anyone have any idea on how to go about solving this??
I am not running gsen, but I did have it installed at one point and it was working very well. Teeter, bubble level, and other tests work great.
Thanks in advance!
have you tried recalibrating it ?
there are a bunch of programs here that might help you do that (e.g. waterlevel)
Are you using GSen while _taking_ the pictures? I found out that some pictures themselves have been taken with the wrong orientation so it's not the album's problem but the pictures'. Try viewing a picture you upload to the phone and see if you have the same problem.
Thanks for the replies.
It was my understanding that the g-sensor wasnt able to be calibrated yet. I have bubblelevel and I used the calibration with that (but not recently).. so maybe that is causing my problem to begin with?
Does waterlevel actually calibrate the g-sensor or just the waterlevel software?
I dont have gsen installed anymore, it was giving me problem and never worked properly.
Okay I just realized something... I actually took the pictures while holding the camera sideways. So it would make sense that viewing the picture while the camera is upright is going to show the image on its side.. and visa versa when the camera is turned.
So is there any way to view a picture in albums with the camera turned on its side, and view a wide picture without having it turn the opposite way?
Try it, youll probably understand a little easier. Basically if the picture was taken wide, and you view it in albums on its side, it flips it the wrong way.
This is a known problem and I already reported it to HTC, not received a reply yet, but I hope they will be updating the Camera program so it takes in consideration the way the device is held when the picture is taken.
This is actually possible but the only one who can do that is the one who owns the source code, thus HTC.
Thanks for reporting on this Scotchy.. Good to know.

cant take panoramic pictures, says disk full

I have Diamond with spanish rom natxo buffet.
I have changed the directory to take pictures to the inside memory (4gb), and have 2gb free at the moment.
I can take videos, photos, but for some reason when i try to take the first of the 3 photos in panoramic mode, it gives me the message :
"cant capture photo.Disk full" (in spanish)
I have googled and searched in xda and no solution. all I found is a hack to make registry tweak to turn your Panoramic photos from the standard (1408 x 480) 0.67mp to (4506×1536) 6.92mp.
http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=2238 (if anyone interested)
Any solution?
please can someone help me?
At least some clues...
super old bump but im experiencing this now, any solution?

could have something to do with the set resolution for panorama pics. check with a tweak tool like advanced config or diamond tweak and set to 'default'

Help something wrong with my camera?

I installed Phoenix 2.5 on my phone the camera was working great then the next day i try to take a picture and it says "unable to capture photo. Unbale to get frame data from camera device" Does anybody know what to do please i take a lot of pictures and now i cant. Anything would be.
The album or camera cabs you installed are either not compatible with eachother or your phone.. I had the same problem recently... Try to find a matching pair of camera and HTC album.. and make sure it is one for your phone...
