I have been having issues with my tilt for the past few days. Upon startup it will go to the initial AT&T screen and will stay there. The phone never dims and will stay there at least a few hours (that is as long as I have tested it).
One odd thing is that the Rom version info (red text at bottom) is missing from the screen.
Things I have tried.
Soft Boot (insert stylus into button by usb port)
Taking the battery out for a few hours and reinserting it
Hard Boot (insert stylus into soft boot hole while holding soft keys
Cold Boot as described here.
FYI. The hard boot appeared to work, but upon restart same AT&T screen. The cold boot appeared to work as well. Made it through the process, but after reboot, AT&T screen.
I have never flashed any cooked roms but did upgrade the the v6.1 rom from AT&T.
Anyone have any other suggestions of things I can try??
So what did you end up doing? I'm in the same situation... I can't figure out how to get the phone to boot so I can restore the att software.
I ended up sending it to HTC. I had to pay for shipping, but they fixed it and sent it back for free. HTC warrenty applies for 15 months from the date of manufactuer.
Ouch! I guess I better get mine shipped! Thanks for the reply.

I successfully loaded WM6 on my Cingular 8125, but it had some weird issues (today screen didn't fully draw, ringtone screen wouldn't close, etc.) so I decided to go back to the stock ROM. But I thought I'd try a hard reset first and that's where I ran into problems. The screen stays white, but there's a constantly changing series of vertical colored lines that move all over the screen. I can't do a hard reset and can't get into the bootloader. All I get is the shifting white screen and ActiveSync won't see the device, but I get occasional USB bleeps/bloops when i plug the device in.
Any tips on recovering and going back to the original ROM? I've learned my lesson and won't fool with WM6 on my locked G4
Try turning your phone off, and then press and hold the camera button and then press the on button while still holding the camera button and that should put you in to bootloader mode. From there, download and flash the stock ROM from your service provider and see if that works. From your description of what it's doing though, it might actually be a hardware issue that just happened coincidentally at the same time you tried to flash a new ROM. Hopefully it's just software related though for your sake.
Yesterday I took my battery out of my phone to remove the dust from inside the phone. When i replaced the battery back into the phone, it booted up into the tri-color screen and has been there ever since. I haven't modified the phone since receiving it from AT&T at all. When i actually noticed the problem I tried to reset the phone through the hole on the bottom of the phone. At first, it booted up normally but was out of batteries since it had been running on a bright screen for a couple of hours. Thus it turned off immediately. I have tried to reset it again but it seems to do nothing. Since then when I put the battery back in and I turn the phone on it returns to the tri-colored screen and it says SERIAL in the bottom white area. When plugged into my computer it says USB in the white area. On the top of the tri colored screen, in the red area, it says:
KAIS1*0
SPL-1.56.0000
CPLD-8
I thought about downloading the newest ROM update from HTC but my phone wont sync with my computer, and the tutorial says it needs to in order to install properly. If anyone could help, please let me know!
Update!
I put the battery back into the phone and it booted up just fine....it was a little slow and worked normally for a couple of minutes. Soon it started to act up. When i plugged the phone into my computer it automatically started to freeze, when i unplugged it from the computer it would work just fine! I then turned my phone off again and now it is back to the tri-color screen again!
try hard-resetting the phone.
To do this, hold down the two soft keys at the front while pushing the stylus into the reset hole. Just make sure to back up any data you want, as it will delete it all (files, contacts, etc.)
Tried a Hard Reset
When I finished it, it just went back to that tri-colored screen. Now the phone will turn on every 10th time i try and work for a couple of minutes. When the screen turns off it wont turn back on when i push the power button. The green light still blinks though.
I have been having this exact same problem for a little while now, any help would be more than appreciated.
EDIT: Everything about the phone was AT&T stock ROM from Oct. '07.
i think it replacement time
hi all once again.i was using my kaiser yesterday then my phone went into tri screen.tried hard reset soft reset.phone reboots in tri screen.im using Duttys Official WM6.1 Rom 5.2.19716 UC.
ihave kais130 mfg /spl 1-0.0lipof /cpld-8 on screen.
if there is a solution to this i would appreciate help in resolving.thanks in advance
Another sad update!
Well as of this second my phone works okay...slower than usual....but in an hour or so the screen will turn off and the phone will stop working, i will take the battery out.....wait about 45 minutes and hope that it boots up normally. No one has any idea why this is happening to multiple people? I have had this phone for maybe 3-4 months. Is the failure rate that broad and fast on these phones???
WTF
This phone is ridiculous. Now if I keep the phone plugged into my computer so the screen wont time off, the phone works just as normal. The moment I unplug the phone from charging it decides to die on me after an hour or so!
this happened to me last nite.
spent hours and hours trying to fix.
ended up reflashing orig att rom..
everything is fine..
proceeded on to a cooked rom and all is well..
added some apps ..
so far -- awesome
Good News!
Magically my phone started syncing with my computer randomly. Thus it allowed me to flash the rom with the original ATT rom and so far my phone is back to normal working great!
tri screen sorted
i bought my kaiser off ebay..i couldnt sort tri screen.i had various roms on at various times .i had no warranty. on pay as you go.decided to take to local o2 shop.got it back today fully working for free.took them 8 days.
Hey, did you have any luck fixing this problem - I've been looking mad for a solution to my tri-screen problem, but no joy...
KAISI*0
SPL-1.93.0000
CPLD-8
appears on my screen.... I don't now how to fix this puppy and it's only a couple of months old...
I started plugging the charger in and soft reset and it would work until i could find a new OS for it, Rom or RUU I think, I am not sure if it works, but now I can't get it off Tri-Screen to run it..
Any help anyone please?

Hey, folks! Been awhile since I've been in the forum. I've got a Tilt running Dutty's 5.2.19209.
At some point yesterday my phone starting shutting off randomly at the second splash screen (after the animated one).
If I leave the SIM card door unlocked, I can go past this screen, but I soon get an error message saying to lock the door, and the phone shuts down.
I can enter the HardSPL tri-color screen and I can reflash to different ROMs. I'll get through the screen alignment and time setting and my device will start to customize, and then I get that darned message saying my SIM card door is unlocked (even though it isn't) and the device shuts down.
I've done this several times and now the phone shuts off immediately when I power on. I can still get into HardSPL, but I just can't get the phone to power on and boot normally.
Does this sound like a hardware problem?
I've read a few other similar problems on here, none of which seemed to get resolved. I bought my Tilt from a private seller, so I have no warranty.
Thanks!

Oh, and I haven't uploaded anything or switched ROMs or anything in months. This was a spontaneous occurance.
It worked fine this morning, sat on my desk all day, i went to play angry birds tonight and all i get is this white screen of death, its stock froyo i cant get into recovery mode, at one point i heard the volume beep when i hit the volume up button but now i don't even get that.
Any ideas?

Have you tried the reboot using the reset hole next to the SD card slot? Let me know if it works.

Have tried reset hole, as soon as you turn it back on it goes to the white screen, no dell logo or anything.
it is not death. if you factory reset it - it will work, but you lost everything you have in it.
So not to reveal my newbishness but how do I factory reset if I can't get into recovery mode ( holding down volume up and power button)? I'm totally fine with loosing everything honestly I only use the thing for light web surfing when my girlfriend has the laptop tied up. I appreciate all the help so far I still have 130 days left on my dell warranty but I really don't want to have to deal with them if I can fix this.
then first try fastboot, if it won't work, try nvflash.
Well, i kinda tossed this in my drawer and forgot about it for a few months, but recently found and thought i'd give it a try, nvflash and fastboot both do nothing, i'mat a loss here, i've searched around the net and found several people with the same problem but none seem to have found an answer yet. Any further thoughts or ideas would be appriciated.
Have you NVFlashed it with a HoneyStreak or ICS?
It was NVFlashed with honey streak at one point but it had been reset to stock froyo weeks before this happened.
wipe dalvik cache through ADB and flash honeystreak to it
White Screen of Death
I am having the same problem. I believe it is more a screen issue than a hardware issue. I had a light line across the screen for the last couple months, Wasn't always there, just sometimes. The other day I turn it on atthe screen stays white. If I tilt it, I can actually see some gray lines moving (vertical lines). I can tell the unit boots up, since it reacts to the touch. I can unlock the device (knowing where the unlock slider is on the screen).
I need some advice. Thinking I should buy a replacement screen on ebay. Bit of a bummer since I only paid $99 for my streak with T-Mob back in the day, so buying a screen for $70 and not knowing if it will fix the problem....I am a bit reluctant.
Anybody any ideas?
Thanks
I know this is old but i just got one of them in with the white screen and it is for sure a lcd problem not a boot problem.
So I can't boot my phone. Previously stable h811, unlocked bootloader running latest 20i Extreme 3.3 MM with G4 Tweaksbox. I have a Qi/NFC sticker on the back, but which has worked flawlessly and was not in use when the phone died. Here's what happened and what I have attempted.
Problem began when phone simply went black. The only thing running was Maps, which had a route displayed but was not in navigation mode. The screen went dark like normal, and when I went to wake the phone, nothing happened. I was in the car and tried plugging in the car charger and did not get a charge light. Pulled the battery and was unable to get a response. The phone and battery were quite warm.
When I got home, I tried a different battery, and the screen turned on to the LG initial boot screen, but nothing else happened.
After many battery pulls and attempts to boot into recovery, I tried it with the phone plugged into the computer. Finally, it showed the charging screen and light, and after several more attempts- pulling the battery and inserting it, then powering on, it appeared to be booting, (boot animation started, but then looped and froze on the initial boot screen (with bootloader state: bootloader unlocked in the upper corner). After another round of attempt/battery pull, it booted all the way up, but at that point I had my sim pulled. Pulled the battery and tried to restart and it froze on the initial boot screen again. Haven't been able to get into recovery at all, can't get into download, can't boot past the initial LG screen. Sometimes it loops, sometimes it just hangs. Nothing I do pressing combos of buttons, plugged into computer or unplugged, seems to change anything. The very farthest I've gotten is the breathe blue light before the boot animation, but then it looped. Now it's boot looping plugged into the computer.
Any ideas? I'm at a total loss.

Im bricked myself from another issue but i think there is a black screen of death issue with some of the g4s
Try to boot download mode and re flash stock kdz with Lg up tool
You will loose all data though.
Good luck on help here noones helped me at all .
The g4 is just not a good device or user friendly
Sent from my LGMS631 using XDA Free mobile app
Black screen of death here too
Yesterday, I was using Chrome, site loading, screen just went black. I had about 1/2 battery at the time. I figured maybe the battery was just reporting wrong. When I got home, swapped batteries, same issue. I've been able to get into recovery and attempt a factory reset a couple of times (after many frustrating attempts.) The phone seems to only be able to be powered on for about 30 seconds before it goes black again. I'm going to attempt to fix with download mode now. If anyone else has solved a similar issue, any tips would be appreciated.
Hardware appears to be at fault!
Check this out, people!

Spread the word. Sounds like this is our problem. Apparently affecting mostly models with serial numbers starting 505xxxxx... which is what mine is. Called LG and they issued an RA# and shipping label to send it to them for service. I'm a little concerned since I didn't buy mine through a carrier, but this seems more like something of a soft recall than strictly a warranty issue, so I'm hoping they fix it no questions asked. I'll keep you guys posted on the progress.
Same thing happened to me today. My phone randomly shut off and it won't boot. Its stuck at the Android logo. I wasn't messing around with it. Just normal use (Snapchat, youtube). I tried booting into recovery but it just goes back to the android screen LG logo and keeps looping. I at least want to wipe the phone before I send it (personal info).
Same here. Mine has serial number starting 505, was purchased back at end of 5/2015 with not problems until this. I filled out the warranty repair form on LGs website and they sent me an RMA with label to get it fixed. I sent it in, they sent it back, and the only thing I see is on one sheet they printed out and included in the package said 'replaced board'. However, when I started up the phone it looked like new initialization with xx of yy apps initializing and then it began bootlooping with the LG splash screen. So frustrating!
So, this time I contacted t-mobile via their online chat, and did a warranty exchange through them. They will send me a replacement LG G4 next day ups air and I will send them the defective one for them to claim warranty themselves. We'll see where this goes. I might just take the replacement unit and do a tmobile jump exchange to another device. I wanted to wait for the new line of HTC nexus phones that are rumored for this year (and was loving the LG 4 until it died), but I might need to just jump twice this year and go for something like the new Samsung S7 of new LG G5 now and then again switch to HTC nexus once that comes out.
Sent mine to LG, and they fixed under warranty with no questions asked. Got it back within a week. All good now.
