I broke my phones screen so I can't accesss anything on my phone really, whats the best way to get contacts off a phone that are not saved on a SIM?
I was using a ROMeOS or however it was spelled and it was 6.1
I was thinking about trying to use outlook, do you think that would work when I sync them up? My phones not with me right now.

Active Sync and Outlook would work.
Also, Try using MyMobiler to Remote Access you phone via your PC, and then use PIM Backup
Or (as a final option) Copy \PIM.vol from your device root.

i used to have a Hermes but the screen got stepped on and so i upgraded my plan to the Kaiser, but i have a big problem. all my important numbers are on the Hermes. so i wanted to know if the LCD screens are compatible, can i just take the screen from my Kaiser and attach it to the motherboard of my Hermes long enough to put the numbers on my SIM? or should i just go pay some guy in hong kong on ebay the $60 for a new screen?
Thanks in advance
Can't you just sync the Hermes with the PC (no screen needed for that) and then sync the Kaiser?
u serious? just sync ur hermes with outlook and then sync ur kaiser...
outlook
i've tried that, outlook was never installed on my phone and for some reason it won't install now
You shouldn't need to install it on your phone, it comes with windows, it is the program that handles contacts and messages. what happens when you sync?
it asks what i want to sync and contacts is greyed out, it won't let me
U sure u have (office) outlook installd on ur PC ?
Had the same problem with sync with MS outlook, installd Office and problem gone....
Goodluck
i have office on my pc, and i'm trying to sync it with wmdc and my phone will not appear, i have the phone plugged in, and nothing
syncing should do it.. but if not, then no.. the kaiser and hermes have different screens.
Although, the WIZARD and HERMES take the same LCD, just not the KAISER.
use this http://www.mymobiler.com/
It will let you use the computer to see whats going on and u can use ur mosue to click on things.
Used it for the same reason u need it.
Good lcuk
I also had broken screen and used mymobiler to control the PDA from PCs screen mouse and keyboard.
If you are unable to install mymobiler through activesync, active sysnc at least lets you access the file system:
Copy a file called pim.vol to PC and then to new PDA,and there you have all your contacts, tasks, and appointments !

Hi all,
Just recently i re-formatted my hard drive on my laptop and put vista back on it. Now i went to connect my Diamond to the laptop...it downloaded some updates etc and installed and also installed the windows mobile device center.
Anyways the phone synched but it didnt give me a chance to specify where and what i wanted synched etc. So anyways it seems like all my contacts that were on the phone have gone missing...which annoys me to no end as i had no back up. Usually i have my contacts backed up on my outlook email program.
Now it must have synched the contacts somewhere but for the life of me i cannot find where. So does anyone have any ideas as to where my contacts have gone??. They arent on the sim card as i usually keep them on the phone memory. Ive checked through the phone memory...checking through all the files and cant see where they have gone...they have obviously been taken off the phone when the stupid thing decided to synch itself before i had a chance to stop the synch. I dont know how it synched because it only installed the microsoft stuff after the first synch.
Anyways really hoping someone can help as i cannot afford to lose all these contacts that i have had on the phone...
I would say that it synced all your contacts from your laptop to the Diamond i.e. nothing. It is usual to sync this way when first connecting.

Did you never synct your contacts with any Gmail or MSN account, or did you never create a backup of your system with SPB backup, if you have then there must be a way to import them again in Outlook and sync them to your phone, an other way maid be easy recovery, with this program you maid be able to find your .pst back at your harddsik important is that you install as less as possible during the time you didn't found it back cause everytime you install something at your pc the possebillity to overwrite the .pst files gets bigger.

I did something very similar and learnt my lesson the hard way. Good news was I recovered quite a few contacts from old phone and even better news is that I've cut down my contact list to people I actually contact, rather just accumulate!
1. I have contacts on my X1, and on my PC (Outlook).
I make a sync - will all of the contacts appear on my X1 and PC
I mean all of the PC ones on X1, and all from X1 on PC?
So contact is lost in that process?
2. What happens when one takes out the memory card out of X1?
And puts it back?
Will all the programs installed on card work normally?
Question nr.2
For the 2 question when i take out memory card and put it back nothing changed, all apps on storage card work ok. I have 2gb card with garmin navigation, and other items.
For 1 question cant answer because i dont have outlook.
My os is windows 7 for the time.

Ok, thank you too.
Hopefully somebody DOES sync.
I actually came to the idea I remove all of the contacts, notes etc. from PC and run Sync. Hope to see all the data copied to my PC!

I SYNC!
I think it will merge the two sets of people it will add to both - but if there are any overlaps it will either ask you or there is a setting which is under Mobile Device Center which says "Overwrite contacts from X1 or PC" or something like that - although i have had someproblems with outlook where when syncing it would randomly delete both from my phone and x1 but luckily outlook has a recycle bin like feature.
Hope this anwers your question

Okay looks like my answer!
Thanks!
Done this lots of times and yes, Activesync on the PC will prompt you whether you want to merge or overwrite the data - which then applies for all your Outlook data inc. contacts, calendar, tasks and notes. If you choose to merge, AS should work out which is the most recent record when encountering exact duplicates and ditch the oldest one.
But from experience if your data is important to you I STRONGLY recommend that you do a backup of your PC Outlook data first (e.g. by exporting all to a new PST file), and also on the handheld with the excellent and free PIM Backup application, before you connect the two together. Otherwise you may end up with lots of duplications (or worse, unseen deletions), which can be an absolute nightmare to sort out.
PIM backup is also useful for keeping your essential data safe on your SD card should you need to hard reset the phone while you're away from your PC.

Just to add to that - you could also use Microsofts MyPhone service - at least that is what i have been using to store data online so there is even less chance of it being lost
Guys I really appreciate your help.
I already have PPCPimBackup,
I just wanted to be sure I understand the sync.
Right now I want to delete all contacts on my Outlook,
and sync this with X1 so all data from X1 will be copied there.
The reason is that I previously sync'd my other smartphone,
P1 on Symbian/UIQ with Outlook (to have all my contacts on X1)
but it made loose all "+" in all contacts lol.
So I manually put all "+" on X1 contacts and now want to just put it on Outlook too without a hassle....
Don't restore the PPCPimBackup contacts unless you have to. i.e lost contacts on X1 & Outlook.
I did a hard restart and it sync'd the contacts from Outlook like it should via ActiveSync. Then I restored a PPCPimBackup backup and ended up with two of every contact on the X1 and in Outlook. :/
Hi all at xda developer
im new here
hope didnt make a wrong introduction
okay,
well I had just migrate myself into using G1, back from my previous winmo device, I have no idea how do I move all the important contacts from winmo to Android? the contacts on my SIM card are noprob, but from the phone memory?
I havent got the device now, im just making sure i'll migrate easily
thanks
updating..
Are your WinMo contacts on an exchange server anywhere? i.e. Did you have your MinMo phone synced with an Exchange Server or Outlook on a PC?
If so, there are a few options to get them over to your phone.
Touchdown is an app that runs on the G1 that syncs with Exchange.
gSyncit is an app that runs on your PC and syncs your Outlook contacts and Calendar with Google.
thanks for th reply
okay, i will try syncing thw winmo device first,
where could I find the gsyncit app? can i google it?
I effed up my phone with the android thing, and now none of the buttons work and I can't install any cabs or remove them. Touch screen does work. I need a way of copying my contacts and messages before I hard reset.

get this software called PIM for pocket pc. (link below)
http://www.freewareppc.com/database/pimbackup.shtml
you can back up contacts, calender entries and messages in a .pib format. if u copy that .pib file to your SD card it should be unaffected until u wanna restore them again.
to restore, just run that file. it restores all your backed up information.
EDIT: this software does not require any installation and is not a .cab file so you should have no trouble running it.

Yes activesync won't sync this and myphone service has been shutdown now. I guess it was online only ?
Do you guys know any way to retrieve the messages from the PC now when the phone itself is not operational ??
(lcd cable problem - so things like this PIM app on the phone can't be used)

you can connect you phone to pc, boot windows mobile and connect via active sync, then you can install mymobiler then you see the display content on you pc, then the easiest way should be to sync you calender/contacts via google (here is how to)
btw: just noticed that that prog is working in android too
