Who is able to help me?
On this forum i found two treads on how to access the SD / HDD from Snapvue side.
I did not get it done.
I did the following:
Liberated shift and made it WM 6.1 on Snapvue side.
Set SD HDD and Memorystick to share on vista side.
Installed Total Commander and VM Netbroweser on Snapvue side.
Set the USB tool to connect.
Both arrows came on and activesync started.
Still, using both programms, i am not able to access SD, HDD or memorycard via Snapvue side. By the way Vista was running while trying.
I am a very frequent user of WM6.1 and the fact that the Shift has WM6.1 as well as Vista made it my perfect notebook solution. The battery life on Snapvuemode is the best feature for me but the memory is way to small.
Access to SD card would make my day / week / month / year / life.....
A sollution? anyone?
Thanks in advance.
Qtek9000Jan (sorry, still big fan of this PDA / phone)
I hope that you are better with Windows Mobile than with this forums search-function.
How to Access shift hdd/sdcard on snapvue
Good luck!
Thanks Peppie.nl.
The link was found by me already.
I tried averything as mentioned in that tread, thats why i installed Networkbrowser.
I also found an other tread (about TomTom7 on snapvue.)
Tried everything written down there aswell to access SD card using Total Commander.
Still not able to access SD card.
Would appreciate any help in this.

Still no help?
Hello,
Is there enyone who is able and willing to help me with this problem.
As written above; i am not able to access the SD card from Snapvue side.
I found two posts on the forum and followed every step of them.
It does not work.
Probably i am doing something wrong, but not sure what.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks for help.

Check that the sd card and hdd are set as shared drives.
In vista network and sharing center - Network discovery is on - file sharing is on.
hope this helps.
Tried the above
Thanks Scott for your help.
Sd card is on SHARED
NEtwork settings are as you suggest.
still no luck
I am thinking it might be the networkpath...
What should that be?
I am trying for example:
\\X9500Jan\D:\
and
\\HOME\X9500Jan\D:\
Home = workgroup
X9500Jan = computer name
D: = Driveletter of Sd card
Very eager to get it done.

Try:
\\X9500Jan\D
also make sure ur windows firewall is not blocking ports etc and password enabled sharing is disabled. Try disabling windows firewall or any other firewall and try ... i have usually found firewall's to be the culprits in such situations!
I use vm net browser and dont need to type any path
when net browser is open highlight my network then click on file then network then rescan network you then should get message "network scan on dialup connection will take a very long time do you want to proceed" click yes - after it scans the network you should see the workgroup under my network, mine also picks up a workgroup "unknown"
Going to do a hard reset
Thanks Scottt
I had already installed net browser
It found a ip adress but i was not able to access.
After installing an other browser (Resco Explorer)
Net Browser keeps giving a message that the scaner (no this is not a type fault this was the message...) failed.
I uninstalled all other browsers (Like Total Commander en Resco Explorer) and reinstalled Net Browser.
The bug keeps coming back.
I now am going to do a hard reset of Windows Mobile and install the latest rom.
any suggestions of which one is best?
Am very busy at the moment so don't know when i will be able to do the reset.
Will come back on it soon.
Thanks sofar....

It is not nescescary to hard reset your device. The ip-adress you can see in net browser is probably only a localhost adress (169.254.2.1?). Make sure that ActiveSync is connected to Vista and filesharing enabled. (Right-click the folder you want to share in Vista, select properties -> sharing tab -> Advanced Sharing -> Mark "Share this folder" -> click permissions -> Add your Vista username and select all permissions -> click OK)
If you still cannot see Workgroup and your computer name under netbrowser, you will have to disable/add exception to your Windows firewall.
Hope this is helpful
Finally, it works after hardreset
Hello,
Everybody who helped me with this problem: THANKS!!
After a hardreset and installing a new rom i am able to finally access the SD card on Vista side from the "Snapvue" side.
Will buy lisence for Netbrowser in a few days since this a trail version for 14 days.
Thank you.
I also managed to install Total Commander on Snapvue side from SD card and also was able to copy a .CAB file from SD card to Snapvueside so it could also be installed.
PERFECT....

Hey all,
I got most of this working, got Network Browswer installed and can see my computer, only my shares arent showing up, i've given full access to EVERYONE and my username on the vista side to both a single folder and my C: drive but nothing is showing up at all.
Any ideas?

This may seem like a weird request but I am looking for a way to share folders on my Kaiser. The reason for this is that my wife has a Wizard and I have set up a WiFi network between the two to play games together. I download software and games at work and then need to tranfer the the files to the Wizard.
Now I know that you can transfer it via bluetooth but that sometimes take quite long and since we have a wifi network thought that why not look for a way of utilizing it for the file transferring as well.
I have tried to Google the subject extensively but only got ways of sharing folders between my pc and the ppc's, nothing on ppc to ppc.
Any input regarding this would be appreciated.
I'm also interested in such a feature (so I don't think is weird )! My search on the subject has concluded that even though M$ has SMB server in Windows CE (after all, SMB is a Microsoft protocol!), only the client side is included in WindowsMobile
The closest thing I have managed to achieve is to use an FTP server on the kaiser, and Novell's Netdrive on the PC (http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/qna/999.html)
hope it helps...

due to limitations in the windows mobile network stack, network shares are not possible from windows mobile.
you can access and create remote mapped drives with resco explorer, vm net browser, and z2 pocketlan... among others.
ftp may be the only option other than a raw activesync connection or bluetooth/irda
jd
Where there is a will their has to be a way.
Thanks for the responce guys, really do appreciate it.
Surely there must be a way to achieve something like this, if there is one thing I have learned from these forums it has to be that just about anything is possible. I'm sure there as to be something we can do. I will not stop digging till I find a way.

I'm not to sure what you mean by the ftp server on the Kaiser. Do I create a folder on the Kaiser that acts as a ftp folder and then connect to that or is it still a ftp folder on a server somewhere else and then need internet connection to connect to it. Please could you tell me more about this.
Thanks in advance.

Yeap, here it is:
You can run an FTP server on the kaiser (like the free Mocha FTP server) which will let incoming network users to access a directory you specify... I have specified the whole root dir "\". Then, you can use any ftp client software on a desktop PC (or another kaiser of course) to access the FTP server that is running on your kaiser. Of course, you have to know the IP address of the server. Once you have verified that the kaiser is accessible and the files downloadable, you can use the Novell's Netdrive (free also) to create a virtual disk on the client PC that will actually use FTP! That way, any program on the PC can access the kaiser's files, just as normal filesystem files. Apart from the delays and latencies, the scenario works great. As a matter of fact, I use it within my development cycle, where I have a post-build action that copies my program's compiled executable directly to the kaiser.
I hope these made it more clear

Thanks a lot for the info, I'm definitely gonna play around with this. Will post back here with my results when I'm done.
Thanks again!!!
I have checked out Mocha FTP server and downloaded it. Will test it tonight, it looks like it will do the trick though. If I run Mocha FTP server on both ppc I should be able to copy files from one to the other without a problem.

of course in that case, you will need an FTP client on each device... but I guess that is the easy part...
I know at least one FTP client that is a file manager at the same time (TotalCommander... the one I use )
Perhaps there is a similar way to NetDrive, to map an FTP site onto a local path on the ppc so to be "visible" from any application, but I haven't used/tried any.

Definitely Worth Trying ..

Thanks you, it works like a dream. Tested it last night and at first didn't use my head. Every time I went into the FTP folder there was nothing, little red cross over the FTP connection at the top. I then created another ftp and still all I got was the little red cross( My wife then interrupted me for dinner, thanks. Cleared my head a bit) After dinner when back to it and deleted the one ftp and it was then when I saw you have to click "Connect", while clicked it and there was the folder that I shared on my ppc. Copied a couple of files and it works 100%. I use Resco Explorer 2007, works like a dream and its got a couple of other extra uses.
I'm not to pressed to have the client on both because I normally have all the stuff on mine and then copy it to my wife's. Won't do any harm to have it on both though. This is probably a little longer route than normal file sharing but it works perfect. Still going to try what you suggested above, will keep you posted.
Thanks again hypest.

Glad you're quite satisfied with this "solution"
I really hope though that someday a SMB server will come forth (free hopefully)!
Great irony: SMB server software does exist for Symbian!!! Symbian users can export a local dir, while WindowsMobile users CANNOT!!! And this (kaiser) is supposed to be a 800euro (in Greece) BUSSINESS phone! Shame...
In South Africa the Kaiser is about R8000,00 if you were to buy it cash.
I've got it on a MTN contract costing me R419,00 per month for 2 years. For that I only get the phone and 120 anytime minutes. (BIG RIP-OFF)
Anyway I will keep playing with this and will let you know if I get a breakthrough.
Thanks again for your input.
Installation procedure:
a) Start installation of 'GarminMobileXTforWindowsMobile_42020w.e xe' from PC through ActiveSync. Select your Storage Card as destination. During the installation, files will be copied to your storage card. The files should appear in '\Storage Card\Garmin\Apps\WM'.
b) Install 'GarminMobileXTSupportFiles_4xxxx.exe' for voice files.
c) Install 'GarminMobileXTFreeBasemap_4xxxx.exe' for Garmin's base map.

I have got the above instructions from a different site, but since the Diamond does not have a Storage Card, where I am supposed to install the Garmin app?
I have tried installing to the 4GB internal storage but it's not showing up during the installation as a storage destination. If it's not an option, will it eat up a lot of my valuable storage if I install to the phone default storage?
Also are there any alternative FREE GPS navigation software available for WM6 that worth checking out? This is my first GPS enabled mobile phone and I am anxious to try it out.
I am sorry if this has been answered before, but I have tried to search for an answer to this but not found any.
You install it to "Internal Storage" but that will be obvious because this is the only choice the garminxt install will give you.
I've been playing with GarminXT and so far I prefere it over TomTom.
So how memory would I have left with after installing the main application, the support files and the maps ? I wish if there a way to install to 4GB internal storage instead if using the default phone storage.
Internal storage is the 4GB. Depending on the maps you have... I have a full install of worldwide base + support files + detailed Canada takes up about 200mb... where I have TomTom I can't just chose detailed canada its all of NA or nothing and it takes up 1.4GB.
Go to Device Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC
Once you are inside here, select "Disk Drive (Faster File Transfer)" and also "Ask about connection type when I connect"
This way, when you connect your device to the PC, you can choose wether to enable ActiveSync or Disk mode.
For this specific case, to install Garmin, choose "Disk mode"...this emulates a removable storage on your PC, and then Garmin will detect this.
This is how I've done it, and worked 100%.

Thank you for this tip. This is what I was looking for. Will try it out once I am back home.
Ok I have managed to get Garmin successfully installed in my Diamond However when I installed the files using the 'disk mode' option, I had to disconnect the the USB cable to complete the software installation in my phone as it did not prompt me for any additional steps in the phone when the USB cable is still connected.
Anyways, thank you all for your assistance. I am glad to have found this resourceful forum.

When the phone is in disk mode the phone itself is not able to see the internal memory. This prevents you from possible locking of files by the phone while trying to manipulate via PC.
Activesync works just as fast as disk mode, it is the phone's usb speed that makes the difference with the diamond.

Settings - System
Remote GPS
Hit Enable
Hopefully that should work
Enable?
I have the same problem
Could you be a little more precise about "Hit Enable"?
I don't have that setting under Settings-System in-Remote GPS
And shouldn't it be a setting somewhere inside the Garmin application since there is no problem using Tomtom with the internal GPS?
But in Garmin I canĀ“t find anywhere to change GPS-settings and when I go into the settings about gps in Garmin it starts looking for a bluetooth gps right away with no possibillity to change.
When I said - SETTINGS, SYSTEM
I meant the ones in the GARMIN APPLICATION!

You need to unlock your GPS or rather the Garmin XT software for it to work with your internal GPS. You do this by using JetMouse Keygen 1.3 (or 1.5) and pasting the generated code based on your Device ID (explained in a previous post where to find that) into a txt file called sw.unl (note pls make sure that the .txt extension is changed to .unl) to be placed into your garmin folder. For JM just google for it.

OK Thanks.
I suppose if I had been more patient and read all of the threads more thorough, I should have discovered that.
When I saw your answer I recognized it but couldn't make the connection to my problem.
Sorry all, for repeating things that I most certainly should have been able to have found in earlier threads, but never the less many thanks for the input.
I have a local file server accessble via wifi (or should be) its "\\server"
WHEN Wifi is on and connected and I put that in File Manager "\\server", it says cant connect, but if I put that in PIE it goes there.
Anyone have any ideas how I can get this to work? It used to work in WM6.0.
You should try Resco File Explorer; a LOT better for that purpose. I have been in a similar situation in mapping the drive and it works flawlessly. There's a 15 day trial to check it out; think you'll be pretty impressed.
Try "\\servername\sharename"...
try to access a particular share instead of getting the shares list by using the "\\servername" convention...
try something like "\\servername\sharename" and see what happens...
alternately, i highly recommend schap's rip of the HTC Network Plugin v1.0 Build 30468...it will make the steps of accessing commonly used local shares a whole lot easier by allowing you to map the drive into the "\Network" folder on your device...see 4th post in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359458
enjoy!!!
I dont want to buy Resco, but it does work nicely.
\\servername\sharename fails as well and \\servername\sharename\ etc..
I will try the plugin and see. (Update) I instlled it and cant find it anywhere.. How do I "use" it?
Thanks!

Total Commander is free and does this well.
It also has a registry editor, text editor.
Did I mention it is free.
Another thing to check...
maybe your wifi connection is set up in "Internet" mode as opposed to "Work" mode...might explain why it works via PIE...
i think i remember experiencing total failures accessing local shares if my wifi connection was set up as "Internet"
on Settings->Connections->Wifi, edit the particular wifi connection you use and on the first page in the second combo box labeled "Connects to:", make sure the value is "Work"
give that a shot and let us know!!!
That was it!! Thanks! Odd setting really.

woohoo!!! i'm a noob WinMo user as of May 2008 with my Tytn2...coming from 5 years of using something from motorolla that was equivalent to a nokia 3310...totally basic PHONE in the truest sense...no color screen, no camera, big and clunky, pathetic interface...useful ONLY for voice and sms
but my point is that coming from decades of using Windows, somehow WinMo makes sense in a microsoft kind of way with all its occassionally cryptic features and inexplicable odd behaviors...i'm a geek and i'm lovin' it
before this thread is closed, the network plugin is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED...i used to use resco for mapping drives but found its behavior to be erratic when my wifi signal was weak...sometimes taking ages to try to open a share just before the wifi icon would show that the connection had dropped
network plugin, IMHO, seems to work a bit better...YMMV

check in Settings->Connections->Network Plugin
while resco's network drive mapping configuration is accessible only from within resco (even though the shares resco mounts are accessible system-wide in any application whether resco is running or not), the network plugin gives a better "integrated" feeling with WinMo even though it is not much different from resco's capabilities
Got the HTC network plugin working. Now I have 2 ways to access the share.
hey there,
im using my day off to play a little bit with my td. now i would like to build network connection via wlan through my router to my desktop so i can move files from pc to ppc and vica versa. problem is that im not able to see my desktop on the phone, nor to see my phone on the desktop. i cant even get into any filesharing option(s) on the diamond
since now im using resco explorer...
help needed
What have you tried so far?
In Resco Explorer, try Menu > File > Network > Map Drive and then enter the computer name and share in the format \\computer\share.
You may find there are no computers/shares listed in the bottom window (hence why you have to manually enter it above) however in my case I'd always put this down to me using Samba on Linux but perhaps it just doesn't support this sort of network 'browsing' to find what shares are available.
Mathew
yeehaaw thanks a lot! that made it. still a a bit uncomfortable but i think once added i dont have to reenter the path.
so now i just have to figure out how to make this work vice versa... wonder if it is as easy as it sounds i'll let you know
thanks so far!!
I don't think it's possible the other way round... but that shouldn't matter as from your phone you've got two-way traffic right now.
You're right about not needing to reenter the name - just hit My Device at the top (or traverse up to the tree to the top) and you'll find a My Network at the same level - inside here is your previously mapped share(s).
Mathew
Hi,
I have tried to map my Vista laptop via Resco as stated above but comes up with error :
Cannot map network path, network resorce cannot be found.....
As I dont fully understand what I am doing can someone do a walkthough please?
I have tried to search the forum, but can get it to search keywords.

PS Can I map the internal storage via windows explorer?
You guyz should try Total Commander, it has a plugin for LAN. Works very good, even transferring big files. Running Vista Ultimate.

Sure no prob do this:
-Turn your WiFi connection. (usually best performance settings works best)
-Access Total Commander.
-In the main page, where you see Internal Storage and device. You should see a folder named \\Plugins. Access this folder.
-Then access the folder named LAN.
-Then access the <new server> option.
-Name your connection.
-When asked for the server name, type in the computer you want to access (you can find the name by going in your PC to the network file and check which files are shared on your computer, click on them and you should get the name of the server "pic attached")
-You are done enjoy.
-Vista kicks assss.
Greetings to all.
Thanks Sergio,
I have followed your steps,Now I can connect to the Laptop folder in the network Directory which is the location \\LAPTOP. I can connect fine but the folders are not visable so appears to be empty in Total Commander which we know its not.
I also have a NAS drive which I can connect to following your steps with ease. Trouble is I dont want to use this as it is by Back up drive.
Do you have any ideas?
Thanks again.
Dan
Have been using my new tytn II for the past weeks, so am a newbie to this XDA-dev malarky and think its all great and fandabiousy, (preverbial) 'BUT' am having problems with lost bluetooth files......
I use a mac on leopard with bluetooth file exchange for data transfer/cabs etc. with the latest rom wmbile 6.1 from HTC site.
Also use the 'missing sync' as a go between instead of 'active sync' but tend to drop files across using the standard bluetooth file exchange as that seems to work more consistently than the desktop mount or instal option of the 'missing sync' -
tytn tells me that it is accepting the files and then says 'do I want to save file to device' I select 'yes' with no option for where to place them this means that I end up having to hunt throughout the device for the transfered file, which consistently is invisible to the naked eye
If I use the search it does not tell me where the files are being stored and does not offer any advanced options (that bit just does not seem to be playing at all no matter what it searches on) so I double click a cab from the search menu and it instals
From a file management perspective this is a nightmare as I presumably have redundant cab files somewhere on the phone and data which is just hoggin space
Have searched the forums here and htc and the blogs and the wider yhoo/ggle for the past day etc. But to no avail nothing on where this pesky little blighters are being stored or transferred to or no info on how to direct them to a folder of my choice.
So the million dollar question is.......... where they go? (presume there is a default)
The two million dollar question is .......... can I manage these more efficiently with better software? (if so any pointers)
And the three million dollar question is .......... How many smarties did it take to build the london underground?
All help much appreciated in full!

The default is under the Devices documents folder ( My device ----->My Documents using file explorer) . I also use a macbook pro. Best bet is to transfer things to a cardreader. MUCH faster and you dont have to worry about dropping out in the middle of a large file transfer.
Also, depending on the rom, there is also the option for an actual "Bluetooth transfers" folder which i also believe to be under the "My documents" folder on the device.
you are a guiness sir ! loads of cans found and deleted !

Am attempting to run tomtom 6 nav and have just bought the maps for western Europe but it will not sync through usb or bluetooth

Simply copy the maps onto the root of the sd card once downloaded. When you start uo tt6 ( im running tt7) it should ask for your key. Input it and all is good

my problem is found in the access to the maps - tomtom use 'home' software to download and pair with the device unfortunately this does not work with tytn and mac so am stuck at the 'turn your device on and pair' screen. with no links to my legitimate map downloads etc,
(have only found tomtom 6 navigator to work without crashing my tytn...)
have emailed tomtom to see if they can give me a manual cab download rather than this messy software malarky! still waiting reply.....
