Hi....
Was wondering, are there any good Mp3 players that work well with the wizard that can display album art that is embeded into the mp3 via ID3v2 tags?
I suppose there is no way to do this with Windows Media Player?
i remember once using TCPMP and it displayed album art.
I just don't understand why this functionality would not be included with Windows Media Player.
yeah, I feel ya. I do know that if you place your mp3/wma in its own folder and include a picture file names as "folder.jpg" it will show in the windows media player. Hope they get that feature soon though where it can read directly from the id2tag.

This is true. And if you use TagRunner, it'll download the art and embed it into the tag, as well as make a jpg in the same folder with the same name. Makes it pretty easy.
I had issues getting album art to work (read it here before as well)
I have tested some different methods, but now finally got it:
- connect as usual with activesync, then explore to the location you want to have you files and copy the stuff.
- when you want to have album art to show up with your albums/songs, you need to make sure that you have a cover (folder.jpg or whatever name) in the same folder when copying: thus not after the fact, as it will never work.
- in the library go to "all songs", you will actually see the files appearing during copying, together with the album art.
an additional _htc<name>.jpg will be created as well, I suppose this one is actually being used by the library. Creating this file manually does not work - in my experience anyway.
Give it a try if you have similar troubles. For me, this is the only way for it to work properly.

Why not just use wmp to sync? work flawless for me...
You can drap and drop any picture to album to create album art...
create playlist, then drag and drop the mp3(or drop the whole album), then sync.
Idiot steps...?
I am almost sorry to ask this question but please forgive my stupidity:
Can someone bullet the tasks necessary to add an album with art to my Diamond. I have had a go with Windows Media PLayer but have never synched music to my PDA before. I ended up with an album synched but it didn't appear in the Diamond player when I went to library all my Media Player library seemed to be listed but nothing would play.
Sorry for being so stupid...
Sam.

I must confirm having kind of the same issue.
Step proces which seems to fail:
1. Update Artwork directly on desktop through WMP
2. Drag and drop "album" to WMP Sync
3. Sync and check all files in WMP Mobile4
4. Confirm : All music and Artwork visible.
5. TouchFlo Music screen: All music there, though missing Artwork.
Question - assumption (not found in Manual)
Artwork Jpeg's limited in size? Should not be as these files are not bigger than 50Kb --> Bug?
Hope someone finds the workaround.

does it mean I have to copy all mp3´s together with the associated .jpg from a folder on my PC to a folder of my mobile device, OR do I have to copy the .jpf first and the insert the .mp3 from my PC?
I don´t get the exact order!
what i do in the wmp...
- I select "album" in the wmp
- Drag and drop the folder which contain mp3
- Drag and drop the picture which i want to have it as album art, on top of the album which i had just drop
- WMP should should show ur album with the picture which you selected. (pic 1)
- Drag the whole album into the syn list and sync away....
In the diamond music folder, you should have what it show in the pic 2...
Mediaplayer syncing doesnt work for me.
@horstborsch; your first statement is correct. you must have a .jpg in your album in your pc-folder before copying, then when you copy the folder to your diamond, the album art will show up (choose "all songs" in the player)

Another possibility why it does not work is the length of the "artwork" naming - file transfered to the Diamond.
As I can see , I only have visibility on jpgs if it starts with ~HTC - xxxx.jpg
Am looking now hosw to fix, but it should be flawless when synchronizing directly with WMP. All other "manual" implications are simply not fitting the expectations as I never hand any issue with my Tytn II

This htc<xxx>.jpg file is created automatically when you copy the files (or when you open the music library). I see the files+art appearing in realtime when I go to "all songs" and copy the folder.
I have same problem.
WMP sync carrying artwork into WMP Mobile fine.
But no artwork in Touch Flo 3D music app.
I want WMP sync to work not have to copy folders onto device.
Its well sad.
We have to beat this one.
I'm going to google!
Pocket player 3.6 --> forget about Diamond player
Give the 30 days trial a chance to show you how well integrated it is with the Diamond and forget about WMP and the Manila missing albums and art files.
It is just rubbish in my humble opinion
Only thing I can not figure out anymore how to set-up Pocket Player as main player disabeling the on-board Touchflo/ WMP player
Main issue is when using a bluetooth headphone with A2DP, this only controls the WMP- touchflo UI and not Pocket player. Changing volume works, but skip FF RW and pause-play interacts with WMP & touchflo only
Any advice is helpfull - googled it but no workaround identified
dunno if thisis the right thread, but it took me already to to page 200000 of the forum. I was just wondering if there is a problem with album art and *.wma files. drm-something
has anyone solved this problem or am i just a stupid fool using *.wma?
updating library?
Hey there!
I am using Tag&Rename for all my mp3 to edit via IDtags and embedding the cover art.
So all my mp3 on the XDA Diamond show the cover in the player.
But I do have an other problem or I didn't figured it out (Just have my Diamond for 2 days).
I transfered new songs via Winamp on my Diamond (used as USB device) - How can I now update the library that I will find the new ones?
Thanks Sebastian
All I want is for the touchflo 3D music player to display the folder.jpg just like windows media player. Can it do this?
The reason for this behaviour has been posted elsewhere, but I can't find it now. A clever bloke on PocketNow explains things here...link.
Apparently, when WMP syncs it copies over a copy of the mp3 file without album art embedded and a separate jpg of the album art. You can't stop it doing this!
HTC Audio Manager in Touch Flo 3D is programmed to find the album art in its embedded form in mp3 files. You can't do anything about that either!
So he very clearly walks us through a work round. It works very well and doesn't take very long. But you would want to get fairly organised about what music you want on your device as you wouldn't want to have to do this frequently. Essentially he suggests using an app called "Flash Renamer" to rename all the jpg files on your device because they start with complex numerical filenames. Then you use an app called "Mp3Tag" to embed the artwork into the mp3 files on your device.
Also when you want to change your music you have to start all over again by deleting the music on your device. Otherwise WMP will sync additional copies of the same mp3's, as the file on your device is different to the one it wants to sync (that is, the device file has been changed by the workround to one with artwork embedded).
The workround is good and also keeps WMP Mobile functional if you prefer to use that.
Again the workround is here...link.
Once again I have to ask - why isnt folder.jpg sufficient. I cannot be bothered will all of this embedding art in files nonsense
Ok can anyone advise how to show more than one album at a time . I can get the album to show but only one
Anyone any ideas?
i can't understand if i can have all my albums listed in the T3D and choose them [like the photos] or i can just see the songs are playing...
Now i put two albums and i see just one cover [every song has the sam cover obviously...]
how does it works?
isn'it a kind of library?
hey
yes you can just download the free software mp3tag and add your foto save and put into the internal storage
ciao
yep.. but... in the music tab can't i see ALL the albums loaded in the diamond? or just the "playing" one?
IMHO, you should forget the inbuilt music tab, download S2P from these forums and use that!!!!
i've tried it.
i don't like it all.
why should i use something like the iphone??
when you need look all album you must create playlist with all song in your diamond and then you look all album image in TF3D, bud for skip to other album, you must skip all song in previous album.

i use S2P v0.40 on my diamond and all work great.
in your trhead is only exe file no install cab !!
just place a JPEG image called "folder.jpg" in the folder of the album. That works for me on virtually _every_ application I use that supports cover art:
HTC Manila Audio Player
S2P 0.41e
XBMC - completely off topic ;-)
So I have it all-in-one...
BTW: I don't use WMP to sync my music to my device - i simply copy the folders over to the device. Wether it's done via ActiveSync or USB HDD mode doesn't make a difference for me.
As stated before the HTC Manila audio player places a rescaled version of the image right next to it in the same folder. S2P also seems to place some files in there...
THank you!

THis workaround really worked! Thank you!
So far, no one has answered the original poster's question.
The answer to your question diamondino is whatever is in the Now Playing list in HTC Audio Manager is what will show up in the Manila audio player. You can create a playlist containing anything you want (i.e. all your music) and it will all show up in the 3D player. Or, if you just select an album from your library and press play, it will automatically add that album to Now Playing, and that's what will show in the 3D player.
Unfortunately, there is no way to scroll through albums on the 3D player, only songs in a playlist.
Hi All,
A few days ago, a client of mine brought me back his diamond saying that the music player was not working.
After more than 8 hours of trying to fix this issue by trying everything I could find on this forum and every possible solution my imagination could think of, I'm left no other choice than asking the community for help.
When ever I put a large amount of files on the storage card (around 3Gb) and use the TF3D interface to play the music, Audiomanger_eng.exe crashes (sometime other files crash but I forgot the names).
Now, I have tried pretty much everything:
1. I tried both WMP 11 to transfer the files and the direct copy/paste of the files to the storage card.
2. I tried putting another set of songs coming from a different PC
3. I tried having all the songs together in the same folder (that caused even more issues as album arts were overlapping) and I tried the WMP function to get each songs in its correct subfolder (ie: artist... Album...).
4. I tried deleting the database file of the AudioManager (which causes it to rescan all the files which it does but then crashes as it tries to play certain songs)
5. I tried on two different Diamonds, using 1.93 in English (HK), 1.93 in French, TOM_DiamondProject_v3.2, Dutty's latest rom. Through this I tried the original HARD SPL of HTC and also Olinex and another guy's one. (All the test I did using these various ROM created approximatively the same error though varied slightly from one ROM to the other)
6. I have also tried a million soft reset and hard resets.
7. I have tried loading the music in Windows Media Player Mobile which works perfectly but does not change anything to the problem I have with the TF3D player.
8. Following stevedpl7's comment, I went in the file explorer, created a new folder called My Music, then I cut and paste all the music from Storage/Music to Storage/My Music, went to the application data/HTC/AudioManager_eng/ and deleted the database file: AudioManager_Eng.vol, then I did a soft reset. When I now go to the music Tab, it crashes before I even get a chance to play a song. In the music list, I can see all the transferred files.
9. And many other small things....
Any idea or suggestions?
Just a quick question about where you are putting the music files?
I have exactly the same problem if i save my music foldes to Internal Storage\Music (which is where WMP saves them by default)
However when i created a 'My Music' folder in the Internal Storage\My Documents All worked fine. So Try....
Internal Storage\My Documents\My Music\''your music here''
As i said you may well have to create the 'My Music' folder, on my Diamond only My Pictures and My Videos were there by default.
Hope this helps.
I have the same problem, the only thing I can put it down to is the new 1.93 ROM from HTC, as it was working fine until I flashed the phone with this ROM.
I have tried the solutions above and it still isn't working, so if anybody else has further ideas please let me know, if not I'll wait for the official word back from HTC and post their solutions up here also.
Sadly, it didn't work either for me
Thanks you Stevedpl7 for the info, sadly I have tried and the problem even got worse
I went in the file explorer, created a new folder called My Music, then I cut and paste all the music from Storage/Music to Storage/My Music, went to the application data/HTC/AudioManager_eng/ and deleted the database file: AudioManager_Eng.vol, then I did a soft reset.
When I now go to the music Tab, it crashes before I even get a chance to play a song. I the music list, I can see all the transfered files.
Are those files made from scratch on your or the customer's PC, or were they downloaded from the Internet? I know that some downloaded MP3s are defective, furthermore some players do not understand all variations of the MP3-format like VBR, joint stereo et al. There is no strict "standard" for MP3, the technology has developed over the years and no one has made an attempt to define "levels" as they did with MPG-2 or with DivX. So there is always a level of uncertainty whether a player is able to play all files. A resampling with a MP3-software or even converting them from MP3 to WMA might help.
It's always a good idea to use WMP on the PC to create MP3 or WMA. Not because it excels in quality, but because it uses very standard features in the format.
Have fun!

They are mainly downloaded MP3s and a few WMAs. When I transfer the files using WMP, some are converted. The thing is that all these files work fine in Windows Media Player on the Phone.
I just realised that there is a possibility that if your MP3's has the album artwork embedded into the files. the audio manager would crash.
currently i'm doing a trial and error of it and have yet to fully test everything out just yet.
would anyone like to comment or verify if the embedded artwork might be the cause of crashes?
I think you are right. I have tried putting one song with the artwork embeded and it crashes the software!!!
erm. and yet. i did manage to sneak in one album with an embedded artwork. :\
but that was 1. i tried it with another album with the embedded artwork and had a crash.
I'm now thinking about giving up and installing TF3D config tool to hide the music tab and then install the old audio manager to play the music

This is painful...
just spent 3 hours trying to figure out which mp3's work and which doesnt.
like wth... i dont get it. someone please assist in explaining how audio manager works ?
Same problem here, anyone knows how to solve this?
Note even the original demo tunes work
Audiomanager worked fine before (1.37 ROM), but when I updated to 1.93.413.3 SVE not even the "built in" demo tunes work. It just hangs on the first tune... Removing the .vol file does not solve the problem. Windows Media player can play the tunes without problems.
Use MP3Tag to mass delete all coveralbum info from your MP3 files on the PC side and then resync everything back using WMP. This solved all freezing problems with the TF Audio Manager for me. MP3Tag can be found here: http://www.mp3tag.de/

Confirmed that this method does work
Works but people embed album art coz they want it to show up in the AudioManager in the first place. Now the only way to do is, is to extract the album art, rename it to folder.jpg and put it in the song's album folder. This is a really huge hassle especially if u've got tons of files embedded with album art....
Did you find a solution in the end ?
This issue is not tolerable for such a ppc... .
So if I happen to copy too many albums or mp3 files, my phone would crash and won't be the music ?

U have to remove your embedded album art from your mp3 first before transferring, and then extract that album art and put it in the same folder as the mp3 with the name folder.jpg. A huge hassle for people who have a huge collection of mp3s with embedded artwork.
Anyways, I've written to HTC Tech Support about this and "strongly suggested" to them a ROM update for this issue.
Audio Manager crash with mp3 in VBR mode ! I've converted my mp3 in CBR mode, and all went ok !
Is there a better solution to this than removing the embedded artwork?
Hello Everyone,
sorry if it has already been discussed before, i really searched for this in the forum, couldn't find it.
Does anyone know what playlist formats are supported by the Samsung music player in Galaxy S?
it doesn't support .m3u whereas many other music players ( in the market) support this!
there is nothing as visually pleasing and comfortable as the samsung music player (Things should change with Gingerbread)
Also, can we use the default android 2.2 music player in an .apk in 2.1 galaxy s?
why i am asking for this is, its a big pain for manually adding the playlist in the phone. there should be some way to create the playlist in the computer and sync both playlist as well as songs to galaxy s.
i have tried isyncr , media mokey and double twist, nothing works!!
I have found a dirty tiresome work around for this.
This is for guys who have 100s of songs with playlists sitting on either itunes or windows media player!!!!
Sync each playlist from computer (i do from windows media player), select all the songs visible in the phone and create a playlist.
open the playlist tab in the Samsung music player -> edit the recently added playlist (default one) and clear the songs.
Sync again with a different playlist and select the songs in the recently added playlist (newly synced songs will be here now). manually select all the songs here to create a new one.
I saw Btunes music player and few others to provide support for .m3u playlists along with nice lock screen music controls.
btunes is the only slick player apart from samsung player to provide iphone style music player.
I've been fighting and fighting with this for 3 days straight now. I really like the music player and want to use but lack of "normal" playlist support is killing me. I even created a playlist so I could take a look at the file but I can't find it. Where the heck does it store it's own playlist files??
Hi guys,
I have no idea where the playlist files are saved.
Community help is needed badly for the list of supported playlist formats.
worst case, we have to manually make the playlists the hard way.
From "Unoficial Samsung Galaxy S Facebook":
Samsung Galaxy S You can use your Windows Media Player 12 to transfer your Playlist and song to your Galaxy S. This is good because WMP's Playlist also readable with original player.

I don't have Windows so I can't confirm if this method is working on our Galaxy. But I hope that there is a way to convert m3u playlists to wmp12 playlists anyway if that's true.
If you connect your Galaxy S in MTP mode, it will sync playlists from Windows Media Player.
I remember that my playlists used to sync but then I wiped my days and forget how to do this...will try again tonight using the method you suggest. Thanks!
solution
for playlists use isyncr to sync..................it had synced all my playlists to the galaxy s music player from itunes
dont know where they are stored but titanium backup can backup and restore them
Well, I tried titanium 3.5.0 backed up a playlist I created in sgs, then I deleted it from the stock music player and from music playerpro (I don't know why didn't delted from teh other when I deleted from the first one), then made a restore playlist with titanium, but there are no media at all in the playlist. I really would like to know how can I backup the playlists. At least until we get a good froyo rom
Turns out the playlist is in xml format. I exported a playlist from iTunes in xml format and dumped it into the galaxy s SD card and boom! it shows up in the stock music player!
xml did not work for me?
After attempted the suggested method above, by:
1) Connected to windows vista on my laptop in usb mass storage mode
2) Exported two playlists in xml format using itunes
3) Copied them to the "sdcard/Music/Playlists" folder
They were not visible in the stock Music Player in my Galaxy S vibrant with the eclair.uvji2 update. If it is of interest, I did sync the files using Windows Media Player. However, both wmp and itunes are using the same file structure, playlists and id3 tags.
syncing with windows media player does not give the playlists...
using playlist creator, i created m3u playlists copied the mp3s and m3u to the music folder and it works...but it's gonna be tedious...
Edit:
FLAC (done manually...)
1. Drag flac files to Playlist creator to create m3u
2. Copy and paste the m3u and the flac files into a folder manually
3. (app to properly read FLAC tags) Download extended media scanner
Mp3s (Since I don't like using itunes and I use WMP instead)
1. Create a lot of playlists in windows media player
2. Import over to doubletwist on PC
3. (Not sure if you need this step but even if you do, there's no need to touch it after installation)) Install isync on your phone '
4. Connect your phone on mass storage
5. Sync the selected playlists on your doubletwist with phone, playlists will all appear in native player.
All these done without using itunes Although technically, doubletwist is based on itunes =X

I guess it is program dependent, the m3u created by playlist creator works while those by wmp 12 didn't work.
And oh, might want to try install isync

Why don't you post the contents of one of your m3u files that works?
Ok, I tested with and without isync and looks like isync is required for galaxy s to recognise the m3u
can someone give this a shot so that the default music player can read m3u playlists? Method 1 has worked for me so far on 2.1 while I'm trying it out on 2.2
Method 1
FLAC and mp3s (done manually...)
1. Install iSyncR
2. Drag flac/mp3 files to Playlist creator to create m3u
3. Copy and paste the m3u and the flac/mp3 files into a folder manually
4. (app to properly read FLAC tags) Download extended media scanner
Method 2
Mp3s (Since I don't like using itunes and I use WMP instead)
1. Install isync on your phone
2. Create a lot of playlists in windows media player
3. Import over to doubletwist on PC
4. Connect your phone on mass storage
5. Sync the selected playlists on your doubletwist with phone, playlists will all appear in native player.
Use a m3u in combinaison with a playlist copier
My reply may come a bit late, but hopefully it can still be useful. I've discovered a freeware yesterday, called Amok playlist copy, which run super nicely. For those who used or use Itunes, it permit you to select all the song from a playlist, and copy them automatically to a folder ( then you can send it to your phone), along with the associated m3u playlist.
You have to drop the playlist file into the directory media/playlist on your android phone ( mine is SGS-1), and then you can drop all the associated music file in a folder, either on your phone or sd card ( you can also add subfolder as far as i know, without any problem). That way, you don't have to you use Itunes for fast transferring of every song in your list. Actually, i'll keep using something lighter, like VLC to do the job, after I realized that only Itunes seems to be able to copy the original files to clipboard.
As I said, the software is freeware, and i don't know of any other similar alternatives. Would be nice to stumble upon an open-source alternative.
