I've looked around the forum and couldn't find a solution anywhere but Whenever I receive a text or e-mail, my ringtone keeps playing and playing... no matter what button I hit or what I do on the screen (I can completely read and respond to a text and the ringtone will still be going!), it doesn't seem to quit! .... I want a ringtone on so I know when I get a text or email, but I don't want it to be never ending! Any ideas on how to make it stop ringing when I want it to ? Angry
It is a known limitation of Windows Mobile, the ringtones for Messages play till the end.
You probably should select a shorter tone for messages.

I have the same request, looked around in the registry but can't find a setting for it. Can anyone suggest a solution?
I have the same role fella, the only way I found was through a piece of software called SPB Phone Suit, you can get it to repeat a sound every 5 mins, 10 mins whatever for missed/unread calls and SMS.
This must seem like a really stupid question(it even does to me) but I've had my tilt for 3 weeks and I can't seem to find where to turn on a notification for text messages. All I get when a text comes in is the screen lights up, no sound. And the ringer is set to loud. Will someone tell me how to activate this?

Mate i don't have my kaiser now but i am using another wm6 phone.
Go settings-sounds and notifications-notifications tab and try to find on events drop down menu about new text message notifications. Hope this was helpful.
Is there any way to change the sound that plays? I don't like any of the included WM sounds and was hoping to use a custom ringtone like I did on my old Sanyo flip, but I've moved them to the ringtones folder and they only show up for voice calls, not for messages.

Put the text tones you want in the windows directory and voila!
All,
I have searched up and down using google and this forum, and all I have found is people with similar problems but no answers to these questions below:
1. Ring tones for contacts saved to the phone are easy, as is setting a single .mp3 to play for SMS messages, but all I really want is my default ring tones for contacts to play when they send me SMS messages. I know Ringo does this, but it crops my ring tones down. I don't want this. I want the full 3-8 minute song to play for a given contact whenever they send me an SMS message.
2. Why won't my current SMS ring tone stop playing on opening of a notification? No matter what it is, a stock 10 second clip or a 8 minute .mp3, it plays completely whether I have opened the phone or not. The equivalent of this would be you getting a call, answering the call, and as you are talking, your main ring tone is still playing. I don't know if this has to do with windows media player, which I have replaced with the audio manager, which is much better, but it is a huge hassle for the sms message ringer not stop once you've opened and are replying to an sms notification. I don't want to have to have my text messages just vibrate or have no sound at all. I want the whole .mp3 to play the ring tone for the specific contact unless I read or dismiss the notification.
I have looked into Ringo, Phonealarm, and Mobiedit, and none does want I want. Ringo crops my SMS alerts, but plays full .mp3s for incoming calls...It should be the other way around. Mobiedit wouldn't recognize any of my .mp3s. Phonealarm has a lot of nice features, but what I want is very specific.
Any registry hacks for this? Any cabs for this?
I want to thank you in advance for your answers and for all the wonderful information, tips & tricks, and downloads you offer.
Thank you,
Brian

Can anyone point me in the direction of another resource then?
PhoneAlarm WILL do this. You just have to set it up.
Really? Then I couldn't figure this out. Is there a difference between the trial version and the full version?
Thank you for your help and I will report back to see if I can get it to work.
phonealarm does indeed allow you to shut off the notification once you either dismiss or reply to it. I don't know if it is worth 30 bucks. Is there a way to get an 'answer on open' like function for sms?
It does not however, allow me to use my contacts ringers for their incoming text messages. Is there a registry tweak out there I can do to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
I have a custom ring tone for when I receive a text message, when I receive a message the ring tone plays and my diamond vibrates but when I wake it up the vibration stops and the song keeps playing, is there anyway I can make the song stop when I select the message instead of playing the whole song?
So far as I know, there isn't any good method for that,I usually use the default ring tone for SMS,may be you can cut that tone.
yeah it got frustrating so I said screw it all together and just used a provided tone thanks for your help though
I have figured out how to make a custom song a ringtone but i want to know how to set a custom text message ringtone everyone that i have downloaded goes straight to my regular ringtones is there a way to set the text ringtone to a custom song or something else because everything they have is annoying. someone please tell me there is a way that i am not finding
I think we have wait for the release of tango. currently you can change the ringtones when calls come in.. but for text messages, you have to use the preloaded ringtones.
Hopefully we would have the update for tango that will let us customize the ringtone messages.
