Autoconnect A2DP when in range? - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys!
Is there a way to tell WM6 to automatically route Audio through A2DP as soon as a paired device supporting the profile is connected?
Clarification:
When using a Hands-Free-Headsetfor telephony you can pair it once, then turn it off, after that it is automatically connected to the phone as soon as you turn it on again.
In contrast to that a Bluetooth Stereo headset is not automatically connected, you have to manually activate it in Bluetooth Settings first before you can listen to music through it.
Especially with my car stereo used as "A2DP Headset" (which loses power every time the ignition is turned off) this can get highly annoying.
Is there a way to tell Windows to automatically "use" A2DP-Peripherals when available?

Try A2DP Toggle: http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=freeware
The Today-plugin migt reconnect automatically, but it has a memory-leak...
To easily manually reconnect, you can create a shortcut to the exe:
\Program Files\Teksoft\A2DPToggle\A2DP.exe
Then you can put that program on your today screen easily.
And if you want a nice icon with that shortcut, you can change the shortcut file to:
53#"\Program Files\Teksoft\A2DPToggle\A2DP.exe" "-a2dp:1"?\Program Files\Teksoft\A2DPToggle\settings.exe,-0

Yep. The WM bluetooth stack sucks. It works better with some stereos though. I tried it out in the store with I believe a Pioneer (with bluetooth 2.0) and it was perfect. Turned it on and a2dp connects. Switch to another input and a2dp disconnects. Switch back to bluetooth audio and it connects. It was flawless. I ended up ordering the kenwood built in bluetooth unit (bluetooth v1.2) and it is terrible. I must manually toggle the bluetooth connection (I use a program that I wrote to do so, kinda similar to the above the above poster posted). Also, sometimes after a call comes in it wont reconnect. Sometimes i must power off then on the headunit a few times. Wasnt this thing supposed to make things easier?! A real shame because I love everyting else about the kenwood head unit. It works better with some ROMs on my phone (this is with a tilt; xperia on the way ).

Yeah, A2DP Toggle works for me as well, It's just dumb that this phone cant just do that itself. My old W880i could! I'm using a Sony DR-BT21G headset

A story to learn before you you buy the head-unit I spent almost an hour at Fry's to try many units w/ my Tilt as well (Sony, Pioneer, Kenwood, JVC ...etc) and ordered online w/ the JVC unit. Excellent sound (compare to other model) but disconnect after phone call issue exist. I believe it's HTC fault since my Eten M600 (MS BT stack) and Asus P525 (Widcomm) doesn't have this issue (but others....). But I got to admitted HTC one do have the best sound quality.
BTW, my JVC BT-1 will auto connect my X1/Tilt when I start my car and I think it serve my purpose.

Multiple Bluetooth device re-connection issues

I have 3 stereo bluetooth devices and 2 headset only devices.
The problem comes from auto re-connecting to the stereo devices.
The only way it seems to work at all is if I pair all the stereo devices first.
If I reset, then I usually have to click and hold on the device in BT Settings and select "set as wireless stereo" to get the stereo connection to kick in.
In my tests I have made sure only one device is on at a time.
It certainly is not as easy as it should be.
It seems to be worse after a Tilt reset.
So my questions are : Has anyone else seen this behavior and is there a fix or work-around for it?
If not, does anyone no how to make a direct link to the BT Settings Window so at least it would only be a couple clicks to fix it?
You need at least one of each device (headset and stereo headset) to see this problem.
I've seen this with my Wizard as well as the Tytn II, so I suspect it's a "feature" of the MS BT stack. I think it's somehow related to the "set as wireless stereo" feature -- apparently only one device at a time can have that setting, and MS turns the setting off if it can't connect to that device. Note that there's no such setting for handsfree, and connections on that profile work flawlessly between multiple devices.
Its a little better
What I found out is that if you pair all your stereo devices first and then all the non-stereo, things seem to work a bit better and Dutty's BT-Link plugin will reconnect the stereo part most of the time, so its only a click away and sometimes you don't need to turn the device to discover mode.
However, if anyone from MS reads this, there is no reason not to automatically connect into full stereo, IF the device is the only one in the list that can be found at any point in time. And if they wanted to be really cool, if not, then present the user with a list so he can click to choose.
Similar problem
Hi BSW11,
Im having a similar problem with the pairing of my carkit.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1717330#post1717330
I believe it can be traced to the the MS BT stack not handling the automatic re-pairing correctly. I am surprised that not many other people have notice or complained in this forum about it.
Adam
No BT Wireless Stereo device will auto-connect to any WM device, you have to tell your phone to connect to it via the BT setting unless a 3rd party app has that function built in to it. This is a 'feature' of MS WM OS system.
Any BT 'headset' (ie mono earpiece) will auto connect if it has been selected for 'use as headset'
Hope this helps.

A2DP Blueooth Car Stereo won't reconnect to mobile

I have the Pioneer DEH-P9800BT Bluetooth Head Unit in my car, which supports stereo BT music streaming from any A2DP device.
I also have the HTC TyTN II Mobile which supports the same.
I have paired the two devices, and on the initial pairing successfully played music from the HTC through the Pioneer. When that worked, the BT Audio icon appears in the title bar of the mobile (headphones with a musical note in the middle).
However, after switching off the car and later returning, I have 2 issues:
1) It is impossible to reconnect the BT stereo music playback, unless I delete the Pioneer device from the list of BT devices within the mobile phone, then pair them again. Nothing else seems to work. Simply, I just want all music to be routed through the Pioneer whenever it is in range of the mobile.
2) I have set the mobile phone as "Phone 1" in the Pioneer, and have enabled "Auto Connect", yet it does not auto connect. Every time I get in the car I have to manually scroll to Telephone>Function>Connect Phone>Phone 1. You can imagine what a laborious pain that is compared to my previous 5 year old Nokia Bluetooth Car Kit which just auto-connects whenever my mobile is in range.
Are you able to solve either problem?
Anyone ?
I have a similar issue with a Bluetooth clip (allows my Shure headphone to be used over bluetooth)
I have to go Start/Settings/Connections/Bluetooth, click onthe headset and "Set as Wireless Stereo", whereas my car bluetooth headset will auto-detect and re-connect.
Is this poor hardware or is the A2DP protocol not defined for re-connection standards, so different appliances act differently?
I found A2DP Toggle via Google. Just download that for free and it'll solve the issue!

I've been using A2DP Toggle myself for some time and must say that it is an awesome little utility. One word of caution, however, is that people (myself included) have been finding that the today screen plug-in has a tendency to really drain the battery fast! You can read a bit more on this issue at http://www.teksoftco.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1626&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
To get around the battery drain problem I've removed the plug-in from my today screen and simply generated program shortcuts on my today screen (using Pocket Plus or UltimateLauncher) to execute the utility in command line mode. So you get the benefit of toggling A2DP on/off with a single screen tap without the downside of battery drain from the today screen plug-in.
To turn A2DP ON create a shortcut that runs:
"Program Files\Teksoft\A2DPToggle\a2dp.exe -a2dp: on"
To turn A2DP OFF create a shortcut that runs:
"Program Files\Teksoft\A2DPToggle\a2dp.exe -a2dp: off"

Kaiser and A2DP carkit

Hi all,
I'm having some troubles with my carkit in combination with my Kaiser. I'll try to explain;
I connect my Kaiser to a JVC KDBT1 headunit. This unit supports a2dp streaming (thus the wireless stereo profile), and phone calling (the handsfree profile). It works flawlessly, stereo streaming and calling apart from each other that is. If I'm listening to music on the bluetooth audio source, the wireless stereo profile, and I get a call, the headunit switches to the bluetooth phone source, and I get perfect handsfree calling. But the troubles start when hanging up the phone. The headunit then switches back to the bluetooth audio source, but by then the Kaiser has disconnected the wireless stereo profile. After reconnecting, everything works again. But reconnecting while driving a car is something I don't wanna do to often
So my question is, why does the Kaiser disconnect this profile? It looks like a timeout or something, so I tried changing registry settings by using this link as a guide:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa916863.aspx
Unfortunately this didn't solve my problems.
Someone who can tell me what's wrong?
The same problem in my car. any solution?
try this
try disconnecting from the call using your remote control from the steroe, instead of pressing end on your phone or waiting for the call to end. also install on your phone the btfix.cab. i had the same problem and i tried both of those solutions. as well as set the sync b/t your car and phone to happen automatic.
You might be best off by giving everyone a little bit more information -
What ROM are you running?
What radio?
What version of everything - AT&T - Orange - TMobile?
I have a Stereo headset BT and it switches back and forth easily from phone call to steroe and back easily - no problems - This is the same as your scenario EXCEPT that it is a headset and not a CAR but same technology. So I suspect that it is your configuration that is hosing you up.

Just a word of caution on this application...it really burns through your battery if you have it on your Today screen.
Just tried the same version as whk (the official ATT rom downloaded from HTC USA) but the same problem still exist. Once a phone call is longer than 30sec. The A2DP will drop after the phone call.

I have a Parrott wireless in my Lincoln. When I get in it recognizes the Tilt with no issues. I travel from Dallas to Houston and talk on the phone all the time. I can answer using the Parrott or the phone - it does not matter.
I never have an issue with phone calls.
When I use my Motorola headset I have no issues switching back and forth between phone calls and music. It works flawlessly.
There are a couple of issues that I do have -
1. when you use either the HT820 or HS820 you are SUPPOSED tob e able to press the button on the headset ONCE and it is SUPPOSED to re-dial the last number - both of mine simply beep once and do not dial anything.
2. I have Microsoft Voice Command - (love it by the way) and I have it set to read incoming message headers only when BlueTooth is enabled. This means that while in the car it reads me the incoming detritus so that I know if I need to read my emails right away or not. PERIODICALLY - it will read me the messages on the Tilt speaker (this means that it recognized that there was Bluetooth available but did not make the jump to light speed for what ever reason. USUALLY it rectifies itself after a couple of messages.
Sorry that I was not of more help.

I thought that a2dp toggle program was just a software switch of sorts..wonder why it drains the battery?
I was going to load that program in hopes of using my Motorola H700 BT to listen to music and Slingbox..mono of course.
Hi Bill,
Thanks for your info anyway. Today, I just tried my good old Eten M600 on the same carkit but I couldn't reproduce the problem. It automatically switch back to a2dp after an > 30sec phone call. So, I think it's Kaiser's problem.
For BT redial, some headset (e.g. my sony Ds220) 1 press for voice command, and 2 press for redial.
I wrote a mortscript to automatically reconnect A2DP after a phone call ends. It has solved my problem. You can find a copy of it at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2267998&postcount=516

Yep. Try this script...place it in your windows startup folder so that it will startup and execute in the background every time you reboot your device.
# Every 30 seconds the script will check whether the headset is connected.
# If it is then, every 5 seconds the script will check whether A2DP is enabled. If it isn't enabled then it will

JVC carkit problems
Hi
I was reading your postings, and noticed that some of you are also the jvc BT-1 car radio.
Does anyone have the same problems as me ?
When I make a phone call using my carkit and afterwards hang up the call, my connection with the radio is somehow troubled.
When I directly make another call, my audio isn't routed through my radio.
When I wait making a new call, after several seconds my radio gets disconnected and a few seconds later it will connect again. At that point I can make a normal call again.
The worst problem however is, when I leave my car. When the radio turns of, my Kaiser doesn't return sound to the normal speaker. I have te reset the phone.
I am using hyperdragon III Rom 25-09-08 with radio 1.65.24.36.
Any idee ?
Thanks Maikel

Diamond Bluetooth HeadSet Bug

Ok, not sure if anyone got the same problem as mine, but here is my problem:
I have a Diamond using AZTOR v7 Rom, radio vBS14 if that matters and Sony Ericsson DS205 as my headset. I start my bluetooth on my diamond and can pair up with the DS205 without any problem. I can also listen to music without lag and sound is also crystal and solid.
When there is a call kicks in, I can answer the call by pressing a button on my DS205..... However, the problem comes when I end my call, the headset will be disconnected afterward and I have to manually press a button on the DS205 to make it reconnect. Each time when I make a call or when I receive a call the headset will be disconnected.
Luckily (or not), I found a workaround: Whenever I pair up my headset, I need to go to Setting -> Bluetooth -> and "Refresh" the services that I want to enable on the DS205 headset. That involves un-checking the services enabled (including "Wireless Stereo" and "Hands Free") and re-checking the services again. After I have done this "resetting", the disconnection problem I described above will be gone.....
Each time I restart the phone or have the bluetooh disabled on the phone, I need to go through that manual procedure again to make my headset work perfectly.
As you can imagine, that is quite annoying.......does anyone have the same problem as me?
I don't have this problem, but i have another problem, when i use the orignal rom, i can use my headset(jabra bt3030) in my diamond and it will automatically connect to use hands free and wireless stereo mode when i turn on bluetooth, so when i change to use swift 7.5 full rom, i have to resetting the bluetooth in diamond everytime when i close bluetooth
I can only get wireless stereo for my Plantronics Bluetooth Stereo headset. Any ideas why I can't get hands-free. Radio issue?
It was possible with some earlier ROM, but I can't remember which... (yes, I'm a flashing addict).
I'm having the same exact problem & it's annoying as hell. At this point, I can't get the bluetooth function on the phone to activate at all. I use the same bluetooth on another phone with no problems whatsoever, so I know it's the phone. I'm running the original rom.....not a flasher.
Have you tried Jetware?
Sorry, just installing this doesn't change anything. Still no hands-free.
Is there a specific option you want us to set?

Yes - I have a very similar problem with my jabra SP700. The Diamond 'forgets' the wireless bluetooth mode every time I disconnect the two devices (although the Stereo Bluetooth icon is still showing in the status bar).
For a short while I was having to re-pair the devices every time I got in the car - until I found the same workaround as you.
There must be a proper solution???

Pairing the Bluetooth with Jabrasp700?

Hi All,
I just got a Jabra SP700 after pairing it with my Kaiser everything works fine ( making a call, receiving a call, Playing music through FM radio and TT navi. through the radio). The problem is when I disconnect the devices and turn them both on they will reconnect automatically but I can't hear anything through the SP700 ( FM Radio ). I will have to delete the device from the phone and pair it again in order to make it work.
Is there a better software for managing the bluetooth connections?
Open to any suggestions.
Thanks.

I have the same problem with my SP700 and my Tritton BT stereo headset.Phone calls work almost all the time through the SP700 speaker, but playing music or through the FM radio seems to be a problem. I can get them to pair up sometimes by only checking the Wireless Stereo box. It works for a few times, but then I have to delete and re-pair again.
I've searched for all over for answers, but nothing seems to be a permanent fix. It's very frustrating to use my devices for anything else but phone calls.
Just to add a bit of info, I do not have any problems with my old Motorola HS820. Of course, I'm not using SP700.
Hope that helps your troubleshooting.
I have exactly the same problem with hte SP700 connecting to a Touch HD.
I notice there is a software upgrade for the SP700 on the Jabra site but I can't get to apply it because I lack a driver to allow the PC to recognise the JAbra SP 700.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Possible solution
Hi
I have had similar problems with the SP700. I was using the Hyperdragon III before the current ROM (in signature). With my old ROM I found that the following method worked:
1) Turn on the SP700
2) Wait for it to make one low tone
3) Turn bluetooth onto discoverable mode on the phone
4) The device then automatically connects over both Hands Free and Wireless Stereo protocols
5) Turn discoverable off
Now that I have the Hyperdragon IV ROM I notice slightly different behaviour:
1) Turn on the SP700
2) Wait for it to make one low tone
3) Turn bluetooth onto discoverable on the phone
4) The device then automatically connects over hands free protocol
5) Go into bluetooth settings on the phone then the devices tab and manually connect by selecting "Set as Wireless Stereo" from the pop up context menu- this connects over the wireless stereo protocol
6) Turn discoverable off
One thing I do find very annoying about the SP700 is that it disconnects from the Wireless Stereo protocol after a phone call is ended. When this happens I have to manually re-connect it by pushing the button on the SP700 until it peeps.
I too would value a software upgrade for the SP700. I just get the feeling that it has somehow shipped with a beta or incomplete firmware. If anybody knows how to do the firmware upgrade please share this.
Thanks

Found a solution that works for me!
First of all thanks guys for the suggestions !
I think SP700 works fine ( GREAT! ) but the issue is with the A2DP. I found out that A2DP turns on the first time after pairing the devices but it does not turn off. So the next time you pair the devices it is turned on and won't accept the new connection. So what I tried to do was after connecting I turned off A2DP and turned it back on and it works fine.
Suggestion
Search for A2DP Toggle, install it and after pairing the devices if it doesn't work just turn A2DP off and back on.
I assigned the 6th hardware button on my Kaiser (PTT Button) to A2DP Toggle that way I can have access to it all the time.
Works great.

Thanks! Nice App! Tried it with my Tritton BT stereo headset and it works! Had to install to my device instead of Storage card, then had to delete and re-pair, but it so far I can toggle between on and off Stereo Headphones without any problem. Will try on my SP700 shortly.
I attached the Cab if anyone else wants it.
Thank you!
Works with SP 700!!!!!

Thanks

When the software loads, follow the instructions, do not install with any of the microsoft wizards that pop up, it will install itself. I couldn't find anything that lists what changes that were made.
SP700 Firmware
FYI,
I too had the same issues and downloaded the sp700 firmware update. I thought the same thing about the drivers, but called Jabra and they told me the firmware update has the drivers embedded in it. When you start the install you cannot plug it in till it tells you to. After you plug it in it installs the drivers. But BEWARE I have not been able to complete the upgrade, it stopped halfway and bricked. I called support and they said there is nothing to do, but luckily I bought it from Costco and they returned it. So being not so bright I tried it again but on a different computer (thinking that there might be a conflict) and it didn't even load and bricked it again. So I returned it yet again. So then I gave up on Jabra support and found A2DP toggle. It works good enough, so I am leaving it at that....

Thanks

I have the exact problem that you are having with the new, Hyperdragon IV, ROM.
Is this A2DP Toggle really the only way - I mean what's the difference between pressing a button on my Kaiser to reconnect and pressing the button on the SP700 ??
I have tried using Mortscript as shown http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=382172&highlight=a2dp&page=2 Although I edited the end out because it kills the player after ending a call. This hasn't helped either
I am off to see if the same problems occur with my lady's N96. If not and no good solution can be found for this I may have got her a new present.
Aren't I nice ?!
Found another possible solution, it,s called zoA2DP. So far it works flawlessly between my SP700 & stereo headset without having to toggle anything or change any settings. When you install it, delete your original pairings and add them again, make sure that hands free & wireless stereo are checked in advanced options on you BT settings. I believe this is a registry mod, there are no icons or any noticeable applications running in the backround.
