I use the Gmail Java MIDlet to view and organize my Gmail inbox but every few days it will stop working and I'll have to uninstall and download it again.
This hasn't happened with any other programs and its been happening consistently since I got the phone so I doubt another program is interfering with Gmail.
Or, whats your favorite email application, should I just give up on the Gmail MIDlet?
I don't use WM's outlook program because it automatically deletes read emails from the inbox...why would it do that?
I use Opera Mini Browser 4.2. It also Java and works well for other Web pages. I have also tried the Gmail Midlet and haven't had any problems.
hmm weird.. I had been using the gmail applet for few weeks and only just now it somehow stopped working.
it will show loading but nothing happens.
tried soft reset, still the same.
in the end had to uninstall and install again.
now it works..
I'm on PDA Ultimate V10 rom.

It's usually because outlook mobile always shows what's on the mail server, and common PC clients delete messages from the server once they've been downloaded. Just set your PC client to leave the messages on the server for X days.
same here, the gmail java midlet is very moody and often non-responsive. i have experienced this with different rom versions and also with different midlet versions.

I use Gmail for my main email, the emails remain on the server after I view them but are removed from my phone inbox within 30 minutes of being read. So far the only way to keep them available on my phone is by marking them as unread.
Any workarounds?
Regarding the unreliable Gmail Java app: I downloaded the Tao Intent Midlet Manager and installed Gmail to it instead of the Java manager that came stock with my Tilt. The Intent manager takes a little longer to load Gmail but its much more stable and reliable, also it runs in the background so it ends up working faster for me anyway. I could never get Gmail to run in the background with the Tilt's stock midlet manager. Link to Intent manager below,

Hope this helps another,

I open up my messaging, click on create new email account so I could setup my gmail and it jumps into my Outlook email inbox. Now I will tell you I'm running Schaps 4.31, radio doesn't matter. It has worked before.
What I did was I use Mobipush (.com) It allows me to setup my gmail account via PUSH on activesync. Could that be causing the problem. I have threaded SMS installed on my phone. Don't want to start uninstalling and re-installing for no reason. I was thinking maybe a corrupt file in the system. Any ideas?
Hi
I have trouble opening my Outlook Web Access mail in Opera 9.5 on my HTC Diamond.
Opera only asks if i want to open or save a file called CookieAuth.dll
Its no problem opening Outlook Web Access in Opera 8.65 or Internet Explorer, but it does not work in Opera 9.5.
Anyone else who has the same problem??
it's not exactly a solution to your problem but i found a very nice software that allows you to download your OWA emails as if you had the settings from the server (very helpful in the case of companies not allowing off campus email access other than OWA). It's called emoze and works very nicely... try it...
OWA

Hi
I experience the same problem. Even with previous Opera 8.5 (?), for symbian S60 Nokia Communicator i was not able to get access to my webmail.
With Nokia I had to use Opera Mini 1.20, and with Qtek or HTC i find Netfront the best (as it is the only one that memorizes my login data)
I can also get the mail with IExplorer, but it is annoying to have to write my login data every time
Seems like it is a problem with Opera then. But i like Opera, so does anybody know a way to come around this problem and still use opera?

Am I missing something here... But can you not just configure Pocket Outlook to check your emails? If you have access to OWA then this is in essence what Pocket Outlook uses to fetch emails.
I would love to do that, but because i sync my other email account with outlook on my PC, I can't use pocket outlook to check my OWA account.
Or is it some way too do that???

Well as long as the 'other email account' is IMAP/POP enabled then you can just create a 'New Account' in Pocket Outlook. It will have its own folder structure e.g. Inbox, Sent, Deleted etc. Who is the provider of your other email account?
I've got my work email via MS Exchange and also have 2 other email accounts on there too- just like many other people on here I'm sure.
What you can't do (as far as I know) in Pocket Outlook is actually 'sync' more than one email account.
But you can't configure a outlook web acces account on pocket outlook, you have to use active sync to set it up on the diamond, or am i wrong?
And when i does that it says that i can't sync OWA mail because i already sync my other email account with Outlook on my PC.
Must be someway that you can sync two email accounts!
Yes, you can configure OWA with active sync and then you set up any other emails via IMAP/POP. If you dont have a data plan, then both of email accounts will update when you connect the device to your PC (using it's internet connection). This is exactly how I do it- Like I said, my work email (OWA/Exchange) is setup 'via active sync' and then I have configured my two other IMAP and POP3 email accounts.
What you need to do, is not 'sync' your Outlook on you PC but rather create a 'New Account' in Pocket Outlook, the end result is still exactly the same but this way you can have you OWA and Outlook email both on you device.
If you have a look at my screen capture, you will see I have the 'Outlook E-mail' which is my OWA/Exchange email. Then I have my Hotmail account and I also have one called 'Sunil Hirji', which is my personal IMAP(or POP3) account.
Just wonder if your problem has been resolved. I have got a HTC Touch HD the other day and I have encountered the same problem.
Yes me too. I have tried to sync using ActiveSync etc., but it doesn't appear to work.
Could anyone provide some screenshots showing how it should be set up. I have a feeling there is a setting server side that is preventing me from syncing using ActiveSync (have e-mailed the IT guys today).
Even if I could access using Opera it would be good, but I get the Cookie authorisation problem. Outlook Web Access works fine on a desktop so am at a loss .
Get it working?
A possible "workaround" for this is setting up "File Types" for opera. To do this, open the opera.ini file (depending on the version of opera you are using, may be in different locations on your device), mine was located in windows\opera9. Edit the file using a text editor that supports UTF 8 encoding.
There is a section in there titled [File Types] with some entries under it. After the last current entry, add the following lines:
application/x-msdownload=2,,,,,|
application/x-msdos-program=2,,,,,|
Save the file with these entries back to your mobile device. Soft reset your device.
These tell Opera to open the x-msdownload and x-msdos-program mime types directly in the browser, rather than trying to download them as files.
I classify this as a "workaround" rather than a solution, because there may be some security implications related to making this change (ie there must be a reason why opera is configured to not automatically open .dll files in the browser as the default setting), so proceed with caution and accept all risk!
Anyway, hope this helps...
You beauty!!!
Hello folks,
I just installed the Gmail Java app. It works fine but I have problem reading the messages !!
The diamond as a excellent VGA screen but the gmail app displays the message with no zoom, as if it was a QVGA screen (works great on a HTC Cruise).
Does anybody know how to increase the text siez of the gmail app ?
Thanks in advance.
See the attachef picture and image reading it on a 2.8" screen...
why java app for gmail?
if you want, you can configure an account email on diamond for gmail, and in settings of the gmail prefs on the web, you can configure the pop account for receive the mail in your mail client.
works fine, i just use this configuration, also for 4 different account.

With the Java client you can use all the search functionality of Gmail. No offline client would give you this option, except you download all your mail (up to 7GB currently) to your device.
That's what makes Gmail different from all other mail providers. All IMAP or POP access turns Gmail into an account like any other. The difference is in the search all mail functionality. You'll never understand this until you used it.

Thank you for the tip : I used it, but it's not fast as the java app... and the search functionality is awesome...
Furthermore, gmail handles my 6 personal mail accounts : I use the label / archive functionality.
But I tested the IMAP WM6 client : he does not retrieve correctly all the subfolders of gmail... gmail or WM6 issue ?? I don't have issues with outlook 2003 ou entourage in IMAP config...
gmail IMAP with the wm6 client is useful if you use it in "push" mode (always on).
I guess if google can't provide a client that's readable in VGA you will have to use your web browser.
yep... I think I'm going to stick to that...
I'll send a feedback to google on this issue...
Cheers.
Problem solved !
Hello, i finally managed to find my answer !
I installed the US version version on gmail java 1.5 !
it has an option to enlarge the text.
See the pict.
I've been using the gmail java client with the "large font" switch on for quite some time. But the fonts are still too small, especially when you are walking.
I'm using JBed, what jvm are you using?
Hi!
I'm using the HTC embedded java machine (Esmertec Jbed). My ROM is a genuine HTC rom.
But you're right, even with "Large Font" option, the text is very small...
Cheers.
Search here for Esmertec Jbed new version , so u can define the font size in the registry
I've been using java gmail for a while, but I just switched to real onlie gmail, which happens to be better and faster, in my opinion.

Having problems with Gmail on the built in Email client on my Diamond. Was all working fine until I installed Dutty Rom. Setup Gmail, says checking 1 of hundreds, but nothing ever downloads, doesn't list my Google Folders like it did before either. If I change the settings to download all messages it'll download all my archive emails but not those in my Inbox.
Its really driving me mad! Anyone experience this error? How can I fix it? Or is there a free 3rd party email app I can use?
i personally suggest if you have Java Virtual machine installed, I would download the GMail mobile app.( m.google.com/mail / http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2006/11/gmail-mobile-java-application.html ). Then install it through Java virtual machine and browse your Gmail account like it would be in your standard browser!
Alternatively just turn SSL off, I had this exact problem and fixed it by using imap without SSL.
Hi guys,
i have the following problem.
I'm having several e-mail-accounts on various services (like freenet, google & strato). I've tried Outlook Mobile, FlexMail and ProfiMail but the problem occurs with every program.
My strato account deletes messages automaticly after 3 months. When i sync my mail with this account, older ones that were deleted are also no longer in my mail-program available.
The same problem comes up, when i download my mails with my desktop-mail-program (AK-Mail).
Do you know any program that just download mails and that do nothing with them when they are no longer on the mailserver?
Thx Michael
Maybe nPOPuk (v2.11) here: http://www.npopuk.org.uk/downloads.htm. I used it successfully with WM6 but it didn't work anymore on WM 6.1.
I believe if you set it to POP3, it should download and remove it from the server, thus maintaining all copies on your phone?
And if not mistaken, Profimail has an option to ignore old mail on phone not to be disturbed .. but this is not so sure ..
