google maps 2.2

google maps 2.2 has been released, and it now allows you to get from point a to point b using public transit, even gives you the prices of the public transit as well...
problem is, does anyone konw where to get the the 2.2 cab? i've been to googles site and downloaded the link on my comp, and that ends up being ver 2.1.0.10...i've gone to google.com/gmm and it gives links to download 2.1 as well.
does anyone know where to find 2.2? all the news sites that have talked about it today haven't given a link to the 2.2 download cab. any help?

i'm guessing you missed 2nd and third lines of my post...
when you download google maps from either your mobile device, either via text or google.com/gmm or download from you desktop then transfer to your mobile device...the version is still 2.1.0.10 instead of 2.2
does anyone know where to get 2.2?

sweet...thanx so much man, and sorry about my post earlier, how did you find the 2.2 cab if you dont mind me asking? cuz i swear its nowhere (at present) on their website, i'd tried justabout every link google had

yeh, the file i posted is NOT version 2.2, its version 2.1.0.10.
Still on a hunt for 2.2....

I just clicked on the "Maps (Download)" link from my Tilt and got a 404 Not Found error. Maybe they're working on it...

This is good news. I'm a big fan of google maps. Now if we can only find gmaps 2.2 ... I know several bb users were able to use and others are having problems with the official llnk.

How do I get there using public transportation?
New! Get transit directions in more than 50 cities on BlackBerry and many Java-enabled phones.
That tells me that there's not a WM update yet. Java I sort of see, but I wonder why BlackBerry gets an update before WM does?

No, data is required for google maps. I think that the gmaps 2.2 version is the Java based gmaps, I think, at least from the video I saw at wmexperts.

I'm afraid not. It's because google maps rely on cell phone towers to update your location. And for it to do that, you need a data plan.
But you have the option of using Tom Tom, IGO, or Mio, etc ... because they don't require a data plan. But these navigators require maps and are not free.

I installed the 2.2 and this is what I noticed:
*NEW "Favorites..." menu option, to allow you add a star/favorites on locations and contacts.
*In "Directions": There is now a pull down menu to allow (current location, contacts, favorite) instead of a check-box for current location.
*It is a even bit more snapper than 2.1 and it has a smooth transition when doing "my location" when gps is on. (Before it had problems recognizing gps is on when doing my location even though gps was on and working.)
-It still reads 2.1 version even when all of the stuff above is added
-There is no Transit option, even in cities that have Transit routes on Google Maps on the desktop computer Internet.
Does anybody have the same result?
Also, does anybody can get Transit, and why in the video they are showing it works. (is official update only for Blackberries like on the video)

Installed with the cab you provided and installed and working fine on my HTC Touch Pro.

I installed a new copy off the google site and it worked great too. I installed on top of my existing installation and it removed the old before installing the new.
Yay for street view, and more importantly proper mass transit directions!!!
(PS: I had to remember to use IE for the download because it thought my Opera Mobile wanted the Java version with no touch support.)

You can use Opera. Don't use the link at the top, just scroll down the page and follow the "Windows Mobile (download binary)" link. That gets you the right one.

street view is great and seems to finally support vga

It would be so cool to have gps turn by turn in street view.

I looked at the street view of my place and I saw my car parked outside.. hahahaha

It took me a while on how to get the StreetView going... sheeshh..
for ppl who don't know how, you have to keep the map pressed with stylus for a while to get StreetView option..

im so glad i dont have to use the hacked java street view that was releaed a while back because it didnt have my location or gps and took me FOREVER getting to work on the fuze..and now this comes out what a waste of my time getting the java one to work (worked fine on my tilt but yay for this official release)

Yes but some people have lags with theire rom's and it is why i give that.

can anyone mirror this? I have reach my limit on rs

In this tom tom it allows you to navigate to a picture taken with footprints... can anyone get this to work? I have footprints installed and working fine but when I go to navigate to picture it says no pictures found.

i am using 7.910 and have maps registered. if i install this, will i have to re-register my maps (north america 725.1906 or something like that)?

New Changes:
Some icons.
Rounded down frames in navigation mode.
Navigate to "contact" --> navigate to "picture" (For use with geo-taged photos by FootPrint in HTC Iolite) new feature.
Activation map now use a connection to tomtom to active maps.

So I take it that if by chance someone has obtained their maps illegally, then this update wouldn't really work for them.

who would ever think about obtaining the maps illegally.... that would be illegal, wouldn't it?

910 maps work fine in this one, so upgrade away.

is it possible to upgrade from tomtom 6 to 7?

Indeed. Its actually a little bit worse than 7.450, and speed lag is greater too.

Hi all.
I've decided to upload the first public release of "Flix". It's a movie listings app i've written, inspired by Cinemo, but for a UK audience. Be gentle with the comments, as it's my first foray into the Compact Framework!
First off, the features:
- Yahoo based
- Search based on Postcode or town
- GPS "Where am I" lookup
- Google Maps link from Cinema Info screen
- Call cinema direct from the app.
- Movies list cast info, Synopsis, runtime, and (optionally) a poster if Yahoo has one.
There is a little more detail on my blog (along with instructions) as I've just added it on there too.
I'm contemplating changing from Yahoo as their postcode lookups seeem to be getting more vague by the day. My own (PE8) has yielded nothing for the past couple of days even though it did previously - so if you find nothing matches up, check the Yahoo page to see what it does at that end.
You'll need to have CF3.5 installed for Flix to work.
Anyway, I'm happy to hear of any comments you have - if you have problems then let me know and I will try and help of course, and suggestions are always welcome too. As ever, if you find it useful then please consider donating!

Flix has just been updated! Changes:
-Now supports France and Germany
-Google Maps loading should work if it's installed in non-std locations
-Where Am I function now uses online Geocoding to work in the new countries
-Some improvements to parsing behind the scenes
I do still plan to update it to work in North America, however the Yahoo page is quite different so it's more work. Lots of Euro countries use the same layout as the UK so it's pretty quick to adapt. Expect Spain and Italy next...

in fact you need to say that its for more than uk. I am in west of ireland and it picked up one cinema. So it works for me too. I would like it to pick up the other major cinema though but still its very good... well done

same and im in N13, yet it still finds the nearest one (cineworld enfield)...
an idea: For future releases would it be possilble to have multiple cinemas saved, for example, it will find one near me, but not another near me, thus i have to go through the update process and lose the first cinemas results.
other than that, great app man, really useful

I think it is a problem on yahoos end, try going to their website and entering your postcode there and see what it returns, I seem to get better results if I configure flix using the name of my city rather than my postcode.

great app but unfortunately I'm in the usa, cinemo is alright but it feels like a first step and daniel gary is great for filling the gap in the app market with a needed app like this, but his is limited so far.
would it be very hard for you to tweek this a little to make it work in the states here. I really like your interface and features.

Hi all - sorry i've not been back to check on this thread, I'm stupid busy at work and my home-time is currently spent sorting a website for a mate who was made redundant
Anyway - I still have plans for Flix ,including support for other countries. I didn't do the US out of the box because Cinemo existed, but if it's not too hard to add I will do, as it gives folk the choice.

Problem with listing by cinema
First of all: great and very useful app.
One problem though: when I click on 'cinemas' and then 'Odeon Wimbledon' and then the clock icon for listings the software just crashes. Any idea why?

Hi, I entered "SW19 2DX" as post code and it happened, but also when entering just "Wimbledon". I'm using this app on a HTC Touch HD by the way...
I also tried updating all data because I thought it might have been a problem with the data download - but unfortunately the crash still happens...

OK, i've just tested that here and it works fine.
I think it's not a data problem but something else.
What resolution is the HD offhand? There is a little bit of code that makes the button "bounce" bigger and smaller when tapped for UI feedback and I wonder if that does something odd on a different resolution... do you get any details of the actual error? (it may have a button at the bottom for more info; although you might need to install an extra .NET cab to give full details)
Have you tried going the other way as well? i.e. look up a movie and click the clock; does the same happen?

Thanks so much for looking into this for me. The Touch HD has a native resolution of 480x800 pixels. When I go to a movie and then click on the clock it shows the times at Odeon Wimbledon just fine.
And very interestingly it now WORKS via the cinema route as well - how odd is that? Maybe because 'Wimbledon' only uses 1 cinema, whereas the post code found quite a few?
I'm just trying the post code again just to be sure...downloading data as we speak...

That is odd; I used the postcode as you mentioned and I get several cinemas:
Cineworld Wandsworth
Odeon Streatham
Empire Sutton
Odeon Wimbledon
However they all list showtimes without problem...
If it still happens, see if you can get any details on the error, otherwise i'm a bit stumped!

All good now, data download finally finished (b****y GPRS here at work) and no crashes anymore...
Maybe me restarting the device in the morning helped.

for example v1.4 has number v1.1.0.1501

That is sad, cause while you are outside your country, roaming is very expensive, even few KB will be charged as 1st MB and etc...
Navigon is nice, cause working with offline connection, but NAVTEQ map's is terrible for my country, would like some GPS app like IGO which can use TELEATLAS maps...

Nokia Drive use online data just to find the destination, once you set your destination it works offline. For destination set it takes just few kb, so it is ok for me, since i have 100Mb for free!

EDIT: tested it a little bit. Data connection is only needed when app is determining the route. Even to calculate alternative routes data connection isn't needed.
Maps seem up to date and complete, but Nokia Drive is kind of stubborn: on my way home, I have 2 highways to choose; as I didn't chose the one proposed by Nokia Drive, it was allways suggesting that I take the next exit to turn around. This happened until half the way until home...
