Improving HTC Task Manager - Touch Pro, Fuze Themes and Apps

I really like the included HTC Task Manager as it is, particularly what I really like is the popup menu when on the home screen that allows you to close some or all apps or jump to any running minimized apps.
The functionality I want added is so simple I wouldn't be surprised if it's already there and I'm missing it.
I want the X button to close apps as normal, but if I tap and hold the X button I want it to bring up the Task Manager popup, in ALL programs.
The reason is I really want an easy way for switching between minimized apps and the Task Manager popup is the perfect simple way to do it but I have to be at the today screen to bring it up. If I could be in Word, tap and hold, then switch to a minimized Excel sheet it would be much easier than having to hit the home button then bring up the task switcher. I've tried alot of 3rd party task manager apps but they either don't do what I want or add too much complexity to what should be a simple task changing app.
Does this function already exist or has somebody made a cab that extends the Task Manager dropdown to all programs that have an X?

I been wondering the exact same thing but have not found the answer as of yet during my search.
Anyone?
Thanks

lakeridgesoftware wisbar lite is a good apps for htc taskmgr replacement but will cost lil' money

WkTask should do what you want.

How to kill all running Apps with ONE HIT of a Hard Key??

It absolutely does my head in when i find all these apps running in the background sucking up battery paower when i thought i had closed them off.
there must be a way to re-map one of the hard keys that kills all running apps in ONE HIT!
sorry guys if there a post asking for this already but I have searched & searched for what would, in my mind anyway, appear to be soething really simple & definitely a necessary tweak.
I have it so the X button closes the app rather than minimizes them, not had a problem with apps not closing with this other than the photo Album not closing.
i would prefer a hard key... i fat fingers & that tiny little icon in the top ight hand corner is just too bloody small!
Without the use of a task manager program there would be no way of doing this. I've used magic button and SPB Pocket Plus before and both of these will allow you to do this.
To be honest tho the quick list (top right) in TF3D has a big X button that closes all current buttons, so in my opinion no point bogging phone down installing big programs like SPB Pocket Plus if you are only going to use that one feature.
There is a small app called "close all" which I had on my old artemis mapped to a HW button with AEButton plus, you could also use HButton for the mapping. I can't find a link to "close all" at the moment, you will have to google it unless some kind person can post it. However I find the built in x button works well enough for me.
If you assign a button to Oxios CloseApps it will do exactly what you want, and compact your RAM too. Also on the page is Oxios Hibernate which will compact (reclaim) your RAM without closing any open apps. These are essential!

USE PBAR 1.4 or similar program

I have started using pbar 1.4 not 1.5 on my Touch Diamond instead of HTC task manager as :
1. It shows memory and battery life also in its popup window
2. It shows time and battery % over the battery icon in task bar
3. It can be used to switch in-between programs thro' its pop up window
4. You can have few favorite programs launched thro' the pop up window
HTC should also think on these lines

Exactly my point!
They are trying to keep it as simple as possible for the general public.
Geeks like us can use their advanced programs like PBar or WkTask or QuickMenu. However, too much info on the screen is confusing for John Averageuser who is just trying to decide whether to buy this or an iPhone.

I Differ.
They are making us use more programs than one like pbar for all these things. Comm Manager, HTC task manager, System status indicator like batti, battery status etc,
program launchers etc.
here whenever u launch a program simple hit fav icon in pop-up menu and it is added to your fav launchers list. You have exceptions list alo.

Task Manager Suggestions?

I'm looking for a task manager that I can launch with a hard button with the help of AEButton,
in which I can scroll though my open programs using the scroller not the touch screen and close each in turn or close all.
I've tried a lot and they all either;
- They dont have the facility to use the buttons as a scroller, touch only.
- They cant be launched to open using a hardware button, as in the program launches but all I get is the little cross, dot button appear in the top right of my today screen, not actually open the task manager.
- Or they dont have the facility to close all apps.
there must be a simple little program that does this, and im starting to feel like i've tried them all...
I can distantly remember using a version on RomEOS 1.2.1 but cant find any reference to it, it allowied me to 'check' each program and close them, and launched as an actual program, rather than enabling a cross on my today screen. And it wasn;t HTC Taskmanager.
Any suggestions you lovely people? I think one handed PPC use is they way to go and this is frustraiting me.
Install SPB Pocket Plus
Soft reset
Go to Settings-Buttons
Assign "Alt-Tab" on any button you want.
Press button, see all open prg's and scroll with the wheel to the one you want, press wheel and you are there.
Hi,
ever tried WkTask (freeware) ?
Quickmenu does the trick for me. Much better than WKTask. Also freeware. X button closes the app, gives a PC feel to menus and you don't ever have to use stylus.
Thanks for the replies
tried both WKTask and Quickmenu, but evenually settles on HandySwitcher, turned out to be a bonus that you can customise the colours, since i have a white background and couldn't read the white text on the menu.
Success!
Why wouldn't you use the task switching part of phoneAlarm?
You can set the default function to the switcher and be managing open tesks with 2 button pushes.
I second Quickmenu. Once you click the exe once it'll auto start after soft resets. Goto the settings and customize the startmenu the way you want. I set mine up to have Running programs first and that set to be shown as submenu and then it allows you the close one or close all feature, quickmenu popout second, then a break and then program, settings, and office folders all set to submenus and then my regular programs as links below. I can control it all with my finger or with the jog dial. Retains your windows TSK theme and if you set it to replace windows start menu it is like the other never existed. Excellent program and very lightweight. To fix the text issue I use UI Tweaker. Also helps me match the color to my TSK better. Just my personal preference.

Is there a way to have Task Manager in in the Start Menu or on the Today Screen?

It's hard to hit that little Task Manager icon in the top right corner without using the stylus. It's definitely not finger friendly. I wish there was a way to make the Task Manager more accessible. I like being able to kill anything that is running.
That would depent on the ROM you are running.
Quickmenu is the answer to your need.
I am running a the stock AT&T Rom minus bloat
Thanks for the reply
Or rather than installing more software you could map Taskmanager to a hardware button, Start\Settings\buttons.
Oh and in the start menu is easy Start\Settings\Menu
As i imagine your asking for ease of use.
Another cool bit of software is AEButton do a google as you can map up to 4 things for every hardware button makes the phone so user friendly
Task Manager isn't an option
I tried that first...it doesn't show up as an option in the start menu or today screen. Stock AT&T Rom

Sorry to do what i said you will need to use this taskmanager http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2481033&postcount=81 it's just an exe place a where you want and make shortcut to Windows\startmenu
What I use is HButton by Ondrej Pavlicek, together with a newer version of Task Manager (usually included in the M2D cabs). If you let HButton handle the "ok" button presses, it will show the Task Manager popup at the upper right corner when you are in the Today screen. The newer Task Manager allows scrolling through the tasks, and if you press the right button in the directional pad, it will close the selected task. Very convenient for me.

HTC Task Manager or alternative?? What are you using?

Hi, i'm deciding what to do with my task manager. (on stock WM6.1 HTC H3G Aus Rom)
At present im simply using the HTC Task Manager 1.51 (build 33547) but am aware that there is 2.1 around.
Currently i have to toggle back to the today screen to switch applications and i have it set to click X to close the application. (i dont know whether or not apps use more resources if they are left open and not set to run in the background, any ideas?)
I want to know what others are using or their thoughts/experiences on these other Task managers. gleaned from Vibranze post here

4. vBar - http://www.vieka.com/vbar.htm
5. tMan - http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/tman.shtml
6. MagicButton - http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/magicbutton.shtml

12. IcBar - http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/icbar.shtml
13. wisBar - http://walkers.ne.jp/ce00_wisbar.htm

HTC seems to improve ONLY the look and feel of their task manager from version to version so upgrading to a new version of HTC task manager will give you a different, possibly improved, look and feel. also, if you intend to use manila (2d or 3d), you'll need to use a newer version of HTC task manager.
finally, search for "Task Facade" developed right here on xda by gps-lover. its an EXCELLENT task manager that i suggest you map to the PTT button...makes "visual" task switching a breeze!
TaskFascade looks interesting. Does it disable the HTC Taskmanager?
I use WK Task and swear by it. It creates a PC type program manager and launcher on your phone. Has many more features and is very customizable.

nope! thats the beauty of it...you get to keep HTC's task manager (with its tap "x" to kill or tap and hold "x" to kill functionality as well as its presence in the home screen) while task facade can be invoked just by pressing the hot key you've assigned to it (i use the short press of the PTT button)
not 100% sure but i think task facade can work with ANY task manager that sits in the home screen (such task managers usually take over the "x" button functionality)
I use QuickMenu+DotFred's TaskMgr.exe, check this post for the way to associate them.
From QuickMenu, you got a task switcher, communication manager, commandline utility, RAM releaser, a lot of useful shortcuts and a real time indicator of battery + available RAM. And it is a very lite tool uses around 130kb RAM on running.
As to DotFred's Taskmanager:
Noonski said:
A lot of long time member and cooks have DotFred's Taskamanager in the toolkit.
Some Taskmanagers do not show ALL running programs.
Dot Fred's does more, shows Processes that can be enalbed and disabled at Start or stop them actively. Has a registry editor, Notification editor, can parse Provisioning xml files and even register DLL files. It's a Tweakers dream.

I also use VJOkbutt, I set the function of 'X' button to 'short press to minimize & long press to close'. I use HButton to map the Ok button work in this way: just press = minimize (the ok/close function in hbutton actually = short press 'X'), press & hold half second = close (VJOkButt), hold another half second = end others (brought by QuickMenu), another more half second = end all (from QM), and another half second = soft reset (by QM or TaskMgr), and then the last function = Today (by QM or HButton).
To switch tasks, just using QM.
How can I assign a hot key to Task Facade? Can't find any config tool or menu...
