Copying my contacts from my other phone.. - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've over 300 contacts in my other phone SE P990i, I'm trying to copy them to the X1, is there anyway that i can copy them without using the Outlook? i tried to back-up them and then send the back-up file to the X1 but it always fail,, i tried sending the same file from my P990i and from my laptop,, same result..

Use Bluetooth?
I would try bluetooth a bit laborious but far quicker than manually enterring all your contacts again.

Cant you just save them in your SIM card and then transfer them to your xperia ?

You just can save a name and a phone number on a SIM card, I'm sure he wants adresses, EMail, birthdays and so on copied too.
I copied everything with the storage card because both phones use microsd.
Bluetooth should be possible too.

i did that,, but i dnt see any of my SIM contacts in my X1,, do i have to do sumthing in the sittings to show contacts from the SIM ?

Just open the CONTACTS and then choose MENU and SIM MANAGER. Then you can see everything that lies on the SIM-card

Just sync your P990 with Microsoft Outlook and the sync Outlook with your Xperia.
And, please, leave my private messages for private messages only

I had the same issue. Bought my new X1 a few days ago. Had loads of contacts on my N95 Symbian phone. Bluetooth was laborious and I didn't have access to Outlook.
In the end, I used Google Sync. Worked fantastic.

it does not support Sony P990i how to backup contact from that to x1 using google sync :S or any other software ....

If both phones use Windows Mobile, you can use PIM Backup to backup and the restore your contacts. PIM Backup will also restore your ring tone settings for each contact (not the tone itself). Plus a few other things.

How to transfer contacts from SE W960i to diamond

Hi guys,
I had W960i before...i have the backup of the contacts of the phone through SE backup manager...can u guys tell me ,is there any way i can transfer the contacts to my new Diamond..
cos i dont remember the phone numbers now n its difficult to add each n every contacts one by one..
plz guys help me
Try import your contact into the Outlook and edit your contact in Outlook!! Install As and sync.
Or try send the contact via bt. I think SE can send all contact.
or send it via bluetooth.
Hello, it's my first post in this great forum, i'm a total newby to WM6, but looking forward to learn
I'm in the same case, I've got a SE P1i, and will receive my diamond this week. You can create an account to www.zyb.com, then you will be able to synchronize your w960's contacts and calendar over the air with this account, and you can get them on your diamond by synchronizing it with the same zyb account.
That's what I will do as I don't use Windows OS on my PC, and can't transfer by bluetooth as I have only 1 sim card.

Have anyone tried this? Or any other successfull solution?
Transfer by bluetooth keep failing for me...
I used w880i before.
Just i used float's mobile agent ( http://fma.sourceforge.net/index2.htm freeware - best app ever ), i synchronized my mobile via bluetooth, and got my contacts on my notebook, in this application.
Also in fma, when you're in your contact list, you can select the ones you want, and if you right click, you can synchronize with outlook.
Then you can easily plug your Diamond, and use activesync and outlook to manage all your contacts.
That's it

Copy contacts from old phone to my new locked Diamond

Hey there..
I need to copy my contacts from my old HTC S710 to my new locked diamond. How can i accomplish this? The contacts that i want to copy was originally on my old sim card, but since the diamond is locked, i will have to find another way of copying them. I have currenctly copied the contacts from the old sim card to the S710's phone memory.
How can i copy them from the S710's memory to the locked diamond?
~D
you could sync with outlook
Bro:
Try Bluetoothing the contacts thats how i transfered from 7710 to Daimond worked fine.
Hope it helps Good luck.
I don't know much of your older device but could you perhaps use a free exchange account? Useful as a back-up?

Try Pimbackup....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
Worked a treat for me copying from TyTN to Diamond.

Two very important questions

1. I have contacts on my X1, and on my PC (Outlook).
I make a sync - will all of the contacts appear on my X1 and PC
I mean all of the PC ones on X1, and all from X1 on PC?
So contact is lost in that process?
2. What happens when one takes out the memory card out of X1?
And puts it back?
Will all the programs installed on card work normally?
Question nr.2
For the 2 question when i take out memory card and put it back nothing changed, all apps on storage card work ok. I have 2gb card with garmin navigation, and other items.
For 1 question cant answer because i dont have outlook.
My os is windows 7 for the time.

Ok, thank you too.
Hopefully somebody DOES sync.
I actually came to the idea I remove all of the contacts, notes etc. from PC and run Sync. Hope to see all the data copied to my PC!

I SYNC!
I think it will merge the two sets of people it will add to both - but if there are any overlaps it will either ask you or there is a setting which is under Mobile Device Center which says "Overwrite contacts from X1 or PC" or something like that - although i have had someproblems with outlook where when syncing it would randomly delete both from my phone and x1 but luckily outlook has a recycle bin like feature.
Hope this anwers your question

Okay looks like my answer!

Done this lots of times and yes, Activesync on the PC will prompt you whether you want to merge or overwrite the data - which then applies for all your Outlook data inc. contacts, calendar, tasks and notes. If you choose to merge, AS should work out which is the most recent record when encountering exact duplicates and ditch the oldest one.
But from experience if your data is important to you I STRONGLY recommend that you do a backup of your PC Outlook data first (e.g. by exporting all to a new PST file), and also on the handheld with the excellent and free PIM Backup application, before you connect the two together. Otherwise you may end up with lots of duplications (or worse, unseen deletions), which can be an absolute nightmare to sort out.
PIM backup is also useful for keeping your essential data safe on your SD card should you need to hard reset the phone while you're away from your PC.

Just to add to that - you could also use Microsofts MyPhone service - at least that is what i have been using to store data online so there is even less chance of it being lost
Guys I really appreciate your help.
I already have PPCPimBackup,
I just wanted to be sure I understand the sync.
Right now I want to delete all contacts on my Outlook,
and sync this with X1 so all data from X1 will be copied there.
The reason is that I previously sync'd my other smartphone,
P1 on Symbian/UIQ with Outlook (to have all my contacts on X1)
but it made loose all "+" in all contacts lol.
So I manually put all "+" on X1 contacts and now want to just put it on Outlook too without a hassle....
Don't restore the PPCPimBackup contacts unless you have to. i.e lost contacts on X1 & Outlook.
I did a hard restart and it sync'd the contacts from Outlook like it should via ActiveSync. Then I restored a PPCPimBackup backup and ended up with two of every contact on the X1 and in Outlook. :/

Need to save contacts without using outlook

Hell everyone,
I tried using search to find a solution for this but I havn't been able to. I am currantly about to install a custom ROM. I have downloaded Hardspl and isntalled it on the phone. But after watching the who to install a custom ROM i found out that all my contacts and sms will be deleted. I tried to save through sync but i don't have outlook on my computer and therefore cant save them that way. I was wondering how do I save my contacts and sms without using outlook. I have installed NS Contacts Backup v1.2 but I can't find the file assosiated with contacts and sms'. IS there another way I can back up my contacts and sms before installing the custom ROM??
Thanks
I think that you will find what you search here
I second PIMBU

hmm.. I have similar problem....I need to transfer contacts from my old P910i(yes, Symbian device) to my X1.
Anyone knows how?
I cant even copy contacts to SIM card since it can be copied only one-by-one, and I have really A LOT of contacts, so it would take a great deal of time.
Any suggestion ??

Symbian phones should allow for select all > copy from Phone to SIM.
I should know, I shifted from a 5700XM (S60) to Xperia (excluding the retarded stopgap LG Arena in the middle.)

Oh please. How can you store 1000 contacts to SIM?
With multiple data like email, many numbers, address?
The only way from P910 to X1 is Outlook,
that's what I did from P1 to X1.
You can sync contacts, calendar, notes, tasks.
Beware: better sort all the contacts the way they're present in Outlook/WM phones or you'll loose some data,
like multiple MOBILE numbers: WM accepts just one mobile, on UIQ you could add as many as you want....

[Q] How to import contacts, sms with no cloud

Im desperate, i already spent two days to find a way how to import contacts to my lumia 520 with WP8 without using any cloud service like live, hotmail, google, etc. I had a diamond 2 with WM 6.5. I got my screen broken, only what i was able to do - syncing contacts with my computer. Now i have all the contacts in outlook, but i find no way how to import contacts to WP8 with no cloud. Pls. help. If there is a way how to import sms - ill be most happy man on that month
If you have WM 6.5 you can save/export contacts to vCard (*.vcf format) and copy to SD card. Next, you have to install Transfer my data and via this app you can import contacts from SD card.
With this aplication you can too transfer your contacts via bluetooth from your old phone.

Ok, here is the idea - is it possible to save VCF file to SD card on my laptop and use the laptop as source "mobile phone" via the application? On my laptop i have W7.
Im really getting angry on Microsoft. They always have to screw it up - they are so desperate for our private data.

Export your contacts from Outlook as a CSV. Then you can use Yahoo or Hotmail to import the CSV file. If it has the option to select CSV from Outlook make sure to use that option. It makes a difference if they specify. Whichever account you use you may want to clean your contact list because they will all be mixed in together. What I did was created a second Hotmail account and used that as my WP8 ID and for all of my MS Live account access. Imported my CSV file to that Hotmail account, then setup that Hotmail account on the phone contact list and everything imported in a few minutes. Hope it works for you as well as for me. I really prefer to use ATT address book but it wont work on my unlocked unbraded 520. If you can get ATT address book to work then that is by far an easier way. Login to https://addressbook.att.net/ and setup your account. I'm making the assumption that you have ATT as your provider. Once logged in and setup, import the CSV file there. Then open ATT address book app on your phone. Also set it up as your contact list in settings.
One other possible option: WP can import contacts from the SIM. SIM cards tend to only be able to store a really small number of contacts at once, so it may take several rounds of storing and importing, but it's a think you could try. If your old phone isn't currently usable for this, you could try having it done at a carrier store; they usually have the tools.
By the way, if you're so paranoid about privacy that you don't want MS to even know who is in your contacts list and/or you don't trust their privacy policies, I'm not sure that any modern smartphone is really going to work for you. A completely rooted Android phone with a modified, custom-built ROM, perhaps? All the major smartphone OS vendors use "cloud" synching for things like contacts.
Thanks for help
all of you guys. At the end i spent yesterday 3 hours to manually do that. I export all the contacts and sent them as vcf. Then i received e-mail to my Lumia 520, and one after one - it takes 4 clicks for one contact - added to my contact list. I had like 580 contacts - at least, after few years i delete some of them
Once again - BIG THANKS for your effort!!
Now the second part of the question - as im going to order new digitizer for my loved diamond 2 - how to export/import sms from WM6.5 to WP8 with no cloud?
