Hi i have this problem since i installed Coreplayer 1.3 on my MDA Compact IV... Coreplayer automatically sets picture files to be opened by Coreplayer, so i disabled that option in Coreplayer.
The problem now is when I try to open a picture file in explorer it doest open. The only option to do is open the picture viewer and browse through there.
I think you can assign picture files back to my pictureviewer in the registry but i cant find it, does anybody knows how to solve this?
I'm sorry to ask again, but nobody seems to respond to my problem... does anybody know how to fix this problem???
Use Total Commander to associate that file type with your preferred picture program.
If you use Total Commander to browse to one of your pictures, Click File, Click Properties, and then switch to the Associate Tab, Click Associate, now just hit the double arrow button under Command and locate your picture program.
Hey, thanks very much for the reply, it was really helpful, although I had some problems finding the right program: windows named it pimg.exe, really weird name... But its fixed now, TNX!!!

For some reason, I'm not sure why, when I open File Explorer it just hangs. It keeps loading. I have to go to Memory and end the task. File Explorer always opens up on \Windows. It's probably because the folder is so huge but I'm sure it's something else. Because it crashes I'm not able to install anything else since I can't browse folders. Can any of you guys help? At least for starters, is there a registry key I can change to not make it try reading \Windows at startup?
Okay, I found the regkey and changed start location to "\" and it works now. I still don't know I can't access the windows folder though. it'll hang my system until i can get to my PC and use the remote registry editor.
can somebody recommend a good alternative folder browser?

Total Commander will do the job nicely. BUT honestly I would do a hard reset as if you continue with that problem it will make life a misery in the future and indeed corruption on the windows directory could interfere with other things too.
It's also probable that the likes of Total Commander might also hang.
Unlike the TyTn 1 the Kaiser should open up the Windows directory failrly quickly.

Here are two fixes:
Using a registry editor:
HKCU>software>microsoft>file explorer>Local Path (change \Windows to just \)
Last location on 0 (zero)
Reset
And if that doesn't work (this fixed my issue),
then open File Explorer
Click on Menu>Sort> change it to Name
I have allot of program folders with grafix in them on my phone, and I don't want to scroll thrue all of them when I'm using Camera -> Album...
I know how to add folders to the Ignored list in registry...
HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCAlbum\Ignored\
but I cant get it to work with folders in the 'Storage card'...
Anyone that can help me?

Any help is appreciated!

20#"Windows\htcalbum.exe" -directory:\my documents
if you want another folder just replace my documents with what ever you want

No, nothing here either
Can block all folders except in Internal Storage..
Hello,
the only solution I'm aware of is to set the 'hidden' attribute on the folders which should not be visible in the HTC-Album.
In my experience each individual image has to have the hidden attribute set, rather than the folders.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424784
Hello Dave,
yes, you're right.
I used "Total Commander/CE", and tried to set the hidden-attribute on a folder called "Musik", and selected "Recurse subdirs". Then I checked some subfolders an saw that the folders were not marked "hidden" (that does work with "Total Commander 32" on my PCs). But after a reboot, HTC-Album didn't list any of the subfolders inside the "Musik"-folder. So I thought it was enough to mark the top-folder hidden to hide all subfolders, too.
I just checked the folder again and saw that Total-Commander/CE had marked all files 'hidden'.
So it's not as easy as I thought.

It's easy enough from a desktop computer in USB disk drive mode.
I don't generally use HTC Album but this is a fix I have to do with my music album art in order to keep the program actually usable. It's a really flawed bit of software IMO.
My phone doesnt know how to open JPEGs. Even though i in Advanced Config told it to open with pimg.exe, i assume thats the picture and videos tool? What can i do to get the normal file asso's back, is there a "default" button somewhere?
Go to
Hkey_Classes_Root\.jpeg
Default =jpegimage
Content Type=Image/jpeg
Perceivedtype=image
Hkey_Classes_Root\.jpg
Default =jpegimage
Content Type=Image/jpeg
Perceivedtype=image
Hope this help
Thanks alot, im gonna look into that later! Thank you
Hi hope you could help me too
when i click the mp3 files from the file explorer they are not playing and it asks something related to the certificates. The error also advises to install the file again.
It is however functioning well when opened in the Win Medial Player. I all started when i uninstalled the Coreplayer and deleted the installer files.
Please help me.
Thanks.
I had a similar problem with .mp3 association, fixed it partly with "Total Commander".
However, I still cannot use .mp3 files as ringtones.....
I have found this solution
Use a registry editor, then locate:
1) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mp3 - Default = WMAFile
2) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WMAFile\DefaultIcon - Default = wmplayer.exe,-2001
3) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WMAFile\Shell\Open\command - Default = wmplayer.exe "%1"
last two entries might already be present in ur registry in that case u just need to change the first one.
============================\
I found this solution on research from the net however i have not tested it yet i left my diamond at home. I am not sure also where do i run the regedit. Is it through the pocket pc itself or in a computer (using regedit) when the diamond is connected?
Pls. let me know if this does the fix for you just in case.
Man, you're AMAZING!!!
IT WORKED !!!
I only needed to change No 1 !!
WOW
No2 in my diamond was "-2002", no need to change that. Just changed number 1 and voila...
MP3 RINGTONES AGAIN !!
Could someone add "SOLVED" on the title?
Registry Editing Question
Hi Garret, it's great news that you have solved your problem. I have one question though... where do i edit the registry file and how to do it? I hav tried connecting it to my computer and running regedit, however i was not able to see the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mp3 of my device.
Sorry for the newbie question.
Thank you.
Hello,
I have a few questions.
I searched on the internet for this problem but can't find a bleep.
Since an unknown time i cant open .jpg files anymore by clicking them. It is possible to open them by first opening the Picture application and then open picture.
When I click on a .jpg file it says that there is no application to open the jpg files.
Second question.
Im using WM6.1 Remote Desktop and want to use it in landscape mode. Tried GSEN, this works but i dont want all applications in landscape. I just want WM6.1 RDP in landscape mode. So i tried to edit the config file and add the RDP process and app name, but this doenst work too. Anyone a solution?
Thank you in advance.
Greetings tKd

I had the same problem, but I'm not sure about the way that resolve the problem...
If you long click your picture, it gives you a window with "properties" or "assign a program with" + a check box "always use this program"

Can't open jpegs
I have the same problem on my FUZE and don't know when it happened....but neither Resco File Explorer or WM File Explorer can find an application to open jpegs....If I got to Picture Viewer or any of the Picture apps in MultiMedia...I can open all jpegs just fine...?
I did a restore from 3 weeks ago, and still have the same thing...?
When I try to associate an application from the dropdow list, there are only a few apps listed (ie Internet Explorer or Windows Media and my Third party software)
Any ideas?
Ron
Can't open jpegs
OK, answered my own problem....Went to Browse applications and selected HTC ALBUM and the file association is back on all the Jpegs

I recently upgraded my Acrobat Reader without uninstalling the former version. Everything worked fine. Then I uninstalled the old version and it seems to have taken the file association for PDFs along with it. While looking for a solution, I found a lot of complicated schemes to modify the registry (no thanks), install a tweak program and do it from there (better, but why complicate things), etc. But it was actually quite simple. So for anyone who's in a similar predicament...
Here's how to set a file association in WM 6.1:
1. Open File Explorer and find a file of the type you want to associate to an app.
2. Hold down the stylus on the file name for a couple seconds (til you get the context menu) and choose "Open with program..."
3. Choose a program from the list on the top part of the resulting window, then check the box labeled "Associate selected Program with this file type."
4. Hit Open.
5. You may get a message to overwrite current association if there was a previous app associated with the file type, chances are you'll want to go ahead and overwrite so it will remember the association you prefer.
You're done!
This works great if you want to open some multimedia files with one program and others with a different program. For instance, I couldn't get Media Player to open my .AVI files, but it was the default association, now I set .AVIs to TCPMP and all is working great! ( I know TCPMP is one of the few programs that lets you set the association, this is just an example - and it was actually easier doing it as described above!)
That menu option's not there
I've got 6.1, but "open with program" is not a choice that pops up. I looked under properties, and it's not there either. Are you using a 3rd party file explorer?
You need File Explorer Extension, here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=421723&highlight=file+explorer
Nice!
Thanks for the tip!
I have a several different media players, and this is just what I needed to choose which program opens what file type.
Thanks again!
Thanks guys, really good software that complement very well the unfinished software of Microsoft..
Great for removing the "DocsToGo" association!
I was really getting sick of being unable to open email attachments because I didn't choose to shell out for the DocsToGo bloatware on my AT&T Fuze. Great fix!
Thanks!!!!
MadSci
Thanks for the software but there is a problem
The file explorer is amazing. But I am facing a problem. I have an HTC Touch 3G running windows mobile 6.1. When I use this file explorer to change the file association, it successfully changes. However, the icon of the program it is associated with doesn't appear on the left of the file name. Only the windows icon appears to the left of the file name. However whenever I click on the file, it does open with the required software/player. But because the icon of the file type it is associated with does not display, it becomes slightly confusing for me to make out with which software will it open.
Thanking you in anticipation for the help!!
thanks a lot
FExplorer ext is a gr8 tool. It solved my file association problem for .jpg files.
Thank a lot again.
I tried to install FEE on my WM6.1 smartphone (non touchscreen) but it gives an error and won't install saying it's not designed for my device.
Has anyone found a way to install it, or found a similar free product to change file extensions?

Schap's Advanced Config can also change file associations, as can Total Commander.

There's any way to Vito SMS chat instead default WM app for SMS managemment ?
Thank you
very very thnx to you
still not the correct icons ?
same as @sahilhshah.
Changing the file associations in either described way is working fine. But the icons are still the windows system icons.
Interestingly viewing the icons from the files which are not corrected to the specific program icon, in the taskmanager, I can see the right icons.
Any ideas?
Using Total Commander for Pocket PC u can change file association and file icon as well, it will be coresponding to specified program. Just give it a try
(That's my firsth post on this great forum )
