Since battery life has been a long term issue for most people with the Diamond, I found this:
It seems that one of the major issues is that the battery amount is polled so often that it actually drains the battery a LOT.
There is a registry edit you can perform that is confirmed working on CDMA(being tested on GSM) phones, and battery life is really great now!
What you have to do:
Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\Battery in a Registry Editor.
Change the value of the "PollInterval" to HEX 4E20(or use decimal 20000)
Soft reset your device

Dear Chefs/Users,
I wanted to share with you, what I believe to be the source to the better battery life on my 2.4.X Roms.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\Battery]
"PollInterval"=dword:4E20
I've shared the fix with Ghetto, and he has confirmed, and will likely incorporate the reg into future iterations of the kitchen.
Original credit goes to DCD (XDA) as I noticed this was a registry from his old Titan Kitchen.

I don't even have PollInterval. Added it and rebooting the device now. It's worth a try at least
Didn't have it either. I added it as a new DWORD, hope is right. I will post any difference. Thanks.
Would this help the battery life on the Titan too?

Not exactly sure, this is my first HTC device. However, I'm 90 percent sure(read thru the original thread) that this was first found on the Titan, so it should work.
--
To those who didn't have PollInterval, Juicy has had it in his rom, and so have a few others. I have a Sprint CDMA original rom, and it was in my registry.
However, the general consensus is that it's working great
I think this might only be for CDMA phones. I think I have seen this hint before in another forum and it was only for CDMA phones. I did apply it and it did no harm although I am not sure that it made any difference.
I think I will be addng it to my newly flashed ROM again.

Greets to all.
I have the Key, but when I try to edit it (hex or decimal) I get.
"Write Error: Access Denied"
"Cannot Write Value Data. Try Again"
Anyone run into this issue before?
I am on a Stock ROM editing with CERegistyEditor.
well it doesnt seem to work for me this.
Battery Standard battery, Li-Ion 900 mAh
Stand-by Up to 285 h
Talk time Up to 5 h 30 min
What i want to know is how HTC managed to get this type of life out of the diamond.

Finally, someone with a brain in their head! I've been saying this for the last six months... everytime someone winges about the 'battery life' issue! Why do you think the device is so small and sexy? You can have your precious Diamond last for a week on one charge if you'd prefer it to look like a brick (or even worse... that Steve Jobs phone!!)
Well this has been confirmed to be CDMA only =/.
But however running grooveROM I can get an insane amount of stuff done:
tons of data
tons of music, videos
etc.
and have plenty of life

Look around for PHM Regedit in which you install to the phone itself, or download CeRegEditor, which installs on your pc and accesses your phone's registry via USB.
The battery is fine. Mine will easily go for 2 days (unplugged at 8am on day 1 and charged at 10pm on day 2) with moderate use.
This includes:
+3hrs TOTAL talk time
send & receive about 30 texts
5-10min TOTAL on EDGE/wifi
If I didn't mention other things, then I didn't use them.
Well mine lasts only till evening with only usage of talkin on the phone few sms's here and there and maybe a few mins at the most on wifi and tht's it!!!! the only way i feel u can really save on the battery is to manually dim ur screen way down and when it is night time reduce it compelety then I manage to make the phone last till the nite where I can recharge it .....
But all in all I agree the battery is jus too small fer the Diamond and I don't think a registry edit will make any major difference....
Admittedly I don't make many calls, but I get at least a couple hours of talk time or about 4 days without charging.
edit:
no wifi, 1 or 2 messages a day, much of the day with no or little signal

What are people's observations re: performance of Kaiser? I've been using Hermes (8525) since last January, have gone through a few ROMs (now using vp3G's latest WM6 ROM), and I continue being annoyed by sluggish performance. With more ROM, a better CPU, and a different graphic chipset, I wonder how much better the Kaiser is at these two...
opening the keyboard... on the 8525 it takes at least a second for the device to handle that, and another second or two for the keyboard to become responsive. Very annoying, especially when I need to type in a GoodLink password or type up a quick response to an email.
waking up... depending on the apps running, it can take a half second to a second after I push the power button and before the home screen fully redraws (this is specific to waking up to the home screen)
Can someone please run some benchmarks on both phones!! would really like to see the performance difference, before i upgrade to TYTN II...
What benchmarks would you like to see run?
Subjectively, the II is a little nippier than the I, but not revelatory. The Ameo is still much faster at web page rendering, eg. But that could be as a result of a better radio as well as more horsepower under the hood.
The GPS seems pretty good. Finds satellites faster than the Ameo.
Is the GPS as good as the Sirf-III implementations??

Kaiser's performance compared to Hermes with WM6 (LVSW and Dopod's lately) is MUCH better. Waking up device - split second, literally. Switching to landscape - well, still takes a little bit of time, but looks snappier. Rebooting also clearly faster. So far I am really happy with it's performance, but don't forget, it has just been released. True judgements will come after some time of daily usage...
so Kaiser turns on fast - that's good. Does the clock update instantly, or do you have to wait a few seconds for it to update like the HTC Wizard?

I've got it now, but it says it should be done on freshly hard-reset device, takes ~35 minutes to complete benchmark, and it may destroy some user data. How sweet. Are you sure it's safe? To be honest, I don't like the idea of putting my data and possible hard-reset into risk, so maybe some volunteer with freshly unboxed Kaiser could get up for it?

I've asked this a few times but to no avail. It's not anyone's problem but mine but I don't know how to fix it.
I've only done two mods to the phone.
The disabling of the auto-attach.
And the Boost TFL3D Performance mod#1 on the mod list.
My problem is simple.
The phone lags....
For example, when you click the people icon and then click your contact list, the damn phone takes forever to pull up on the screen.
The reason I sold my Touch Cruise is because this phone had a faster processor.
Please, can anyone tell me how to increase the speed of this slow azz phone?
If I can't do anything about it, I'm buying an iphone or something else.
Thanks much,
Mark
Certainly the best way to speed up the phone is to flash a custom ROM to it. There are many out there that are MUCH faster than the stock ROMs. I highly recommend Dutty's V1.2 rom, but there are certainly others.

I have owned most HTC phones and after tweaking this is my fave and fastest so far...
Firstly what what ROM version are you using?
First post. Glad to meet u all.
I had official Vodafone spanish ROM until yesterday. My last phone was a QTEK s100, so no Wireless, no GPS, no Gsensor, no light sensor, no WM6.1, but it was fine, speed was OK. Diamond had poor speed compared to S100.
I flashed with the new official ROM from HTC and it seems a new phone. Try it.

Cool, I highly recommend flashing to Duttys ROM 1.2 at the Mo 1.3 should be with us in the next few days - I understand your frustration m8. I have been using these toys for years and they always need tweaking (but thats become half the fun)
What I will say is that you will se significant increases in speed from 1.37 which in honesty I thought was ****e and bug ridden so no surprises at your dissapointment. We are still a little way away from the perfect ROM but every time gets closer - rest assured. I think you will be pleasantly surprised after flashing to Duttys.
If you need anything else just shout shout.
NB. enable all the power management functions in schapps config and your battery will also last a hell of alot longer.

Yes, and inherit an incredibly chunky phone, thus taking away one of the main advantages of the Diamond - its sleekness.

That's a 3rd party version HTC has released their own which isn't a 1800mah like the one posted above it's 1340mah and shouldn't be as chunky.
The HTC version is here http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=166204 waiting for better side by side pics.
Yes, its a misleading pic cos thats the 1800mah battery ffs! That battery adds about 5/6mm to the Diamond, so yes, it is ridiculous but it is by no means the official one, which looks ok by comparison.
Fair enough. I look forward to seeing the 1340mah version then...

Does nobody bother searching on here? Or reading the accessories section?
Clearly not!
Calm down ffs! I thought I had already seen a pic of the battery and so I didn't feel any need to search for more pics. Plus, as bizarre as it may sound, we don't all spend every day of our waking lives on here...
I will only say this once - this forum contains a lot of conflicting information mostly caused by people posting without searching or looking in the appropriate location first. And saying you 'thought' you had already seen a picture of the battery is utter bollocks as you were able to post a direct link to it, which presumably would have given you the opportunity to actually read it again and realise it wasn't the official one.
Erm, no mate. I saw a pic of what I thought was the extended battery via typing 'htc touch diamond extended battery' into google. I then recalled the pic due to this thread and so went to find it again. I didn't bother reading details about the battery as I thought there was only one kind of extended battery. I know, it's a sin eh? Definitely worth your snide remarks?
Why don't you just pipe down and stop trying to act like some sort of adjudicater, it's tiresome and is far worse than repeat threads.
I understand your reasoning, but you also need to understand that I (and many others)am still feeling my way around this site. If this bothers you, don't enagage.

I am not by any means a self appointed adjudicator - I sympathise with the guys who do moderate this forum though.

Do you have an extra battery to test with or just the one? If you have two batteries, it would be easier to diagnose whether the first battery is defective based on how fast the second battery drains. It might be worth borrowing a friends or buying one on amazon. You can get the OEM battery for relatively cheap nowadays (<$20)
Also depending on how long you have had your phone for you can call T-Mobile up and complain. I did this and got a free 2nd battery. Just tell them you have already gone through troubleshooting steps by turning off gps, bluetooth, wifi, 3g, and lowered the screen brightness. Even if you are over your allowed time I'm sure if you talk right you still might get a free battery, my friend did to.

Yeah, I did this too, but that was a while ago (November or December) when it seems that T-Mobile was handing out batteries like candy to pacify all the people that were upset with battery life. You might have to call them up. I don't think they will do it in the store, but again if you know how to talk anything can happen.
I'm not sure if it makes a difference or not, but when I was running Cyanogens roms above 3.6.5 I would get horrible battery readings. I'd reboot and it would says something different.
I believe its a known bug in Cupcake builds about battery readings. Cyanogen did post up a link to Android's official bug tracker but I can't remember the link by memory.
Also try calibrating your battery too and use a program like Watts to track your battery usage over time.
Also using the Open Overclocker widget is amazing, you can set the Screen Off CPU frequency, forcing the CPU to scale down when idle. I'm not 100% sure if Cyanogen's ROM does this on default or not though but I know it does do CPU scaling.
Posting here since its battery related .. ever since the upgrade to crc1 my battery charges extremely slow .. like it wont go to 100 percent in 8hrs .. but when I restart it at like 80% it will show 100, but if i leave it there long enough im sure it will keep climing slowly in percentage. Yes, it's a known bug.
Fully charge your battery then do the following.
su
rm /data/system/batterystats.bin
The battery reading will be more accurate.

No extra battery though =/ They said I would have to provide a CC to get them to send an extra battery and then send the old one back.

Yes, it's a known bug.
Fully charge your battery then do the following.
su
rm /data/system/batterystats.bin
The battery reading will be more accurate.

thanks for this. but what does it exactly do??
It deletes the old battery stats file and Android creates a new one, which would be more accurately calibrated. Think of it like a battery stats reset.

I'm a *nix noob but i believe the " rm" command under su will delete it!

Hello guys!
I wanted to make a battery calibration on my Galaxy S21 5G and i made a battery test on the road.
The phone is 5 months old.
So this is the measurement from 100% battery to 3%.
The Screentime is 11 hours and 56 min. (always on wifi) & 40 min. of music streaming on 4g (9% battery).
I think the Screentime is fantastic!
I used some tweaks from here:
[DISCONTINUED] Samsung Galaxy One UI - Optimization Guide
THIS IS A SUGGESTED CONFIGURATION FOR SAMSUNG DEVICES OUT OF SUPPORT/CLOSED I - RECOMMENDED SETTINGS To Start With - Factory Reset before starting optimisations - Factory Reset after every Major update (One UI/Android) - Remove SIM before first...
forum.xda-developers.com
and the Screen was constantly on 48Hz with Galaxy Max app.
The Performance was completely fine.
Now if this is with 48Hz, imagine what insane battery life can you get on a Galaxy Ultra with 10Hz.
Thanks for the tag, glad i helped
Basically you transformed your S21 into an S7 or S8, you might as well bought a nokia 3310 to deactivate all the features of a phone, or changed brands....

It doesn't make sense anyway, so changing the brand of phone your approach is weird in my eyes, having an S21 to make it as interesting as an older generation smartphone, you might as well buy older generations. You will gain 2x more battery again. A nokia 3310 would last 1 week in autonomy, that would be more suited to your needs. Sorry

You said something right, YOUR eyes, and as far as i can remember, nobody asked for your opinion .
Again, well said, that's how YOU describe "Interesting", not me.
I didn't ask for your help to find what i need, but thanks for the help anyway
If you like the process, take part, help. If you don't, then ignore.
You have to accept that some people might have different opinions that you'll need to accept and respect, not everyone that thinks different than you is wrong.

If others have the same desire, it's because they made a mistake in buying their phones, have a nice day.

I want an S7 with a better screen and a better camera basically, can i ? Can you please let me do whatever i want with MY OWN PHONE ?
Unless you paid for my device, in that case you're right, i should let all apps and features i don't need running in the background and consuming power

There are no "problems", just people looking for some features back
Hey, amazing battery life! Thanks for sharing. Can I ask which tweaks you've done from the one ui optimization guide?

hey bro I want to do your battery optimization but first 2 question do I need to first do a factory reset
and can I restore my phone with smartswitch?
Do you think it could be possible for you to write down what tweaks you used from the link you shared? There's quite a lot of information there and was wondering what you used in that thread and didn't.

Maybe you shouldn't of done a post if you didn't want people to comment
Damn, you turned off all these features and crippled the phone but left a super obvious optimization untouched.
Using WiFi calling, you can enable airplane mode, effectively turning off your whole cellular radio.
While I'm at home, my phone is always on airplane mode, so it's not looking for towers, switching networks, etc. Depending on your provider and location, it can noticeably help with battery drain, mostly in standby.
Also...wtf Norton 360? It looks like it used a ton of battery and it's such a grandma move to have Norton on your cellphone. It's just weird to remove all the nice features of the phone, for which you paid, al in the pursuit of better battery life, but leave obvious things like this in... just my $0.02
