i did not even notice they had all that crap on there! lol
but thats interesting, about the microsd expansion slot anyway, because when the diamond was first rumoured to exist, it apparently did have a microsd slot, but htc chose to remove it. correct me if im wrong i dont think there are any variations of the diamond that have an expansion slot do they?

2GB Memory Cards

It seems I just fried parts of my 2GB miniSD I got about a year ago from ebay for about £30ish which was pretty cheap at the time. However it was slow as hell, and in low temperatures (about -25C) ran so slowly it was close to useless.
I dont like the idea of going for a 4GB as there does seem to be a large element in luck if these will work - but I guess (correct me if i am wrong) that there will soon be a ROM accommodating the newer format miniSDs. (Ahem, Mr Faria?)
However - until then I am still in need of a new card and sticking to a reliable old format at 2GB seems to make most sense - but with greater speed than my decomposing cheapo.
The one that looked best initially was the 2GB Utlra II from Sandisk, due to its claimed good transfer rates (10 and 9 meg/s IIRC) - however, I noticed...
http://www.mymemory.co.uk/search
... who I have had loads of good kit from previously, do their own with 20/9 rates and for £10.99 with a 6% discount via www.quidco.co.uk and the tax does not go to Tony Bliars lot, as they are off shore (although get reduced tax for > £18 - so you now can see the reasons for their price structure).
Their postage is £4 but I am due a few other things too, including USB memory pens that work as media in my car radio, and a 4GB Sandisk Titanium U3 as i filled the 1GB one from christmas in no time, and they make writing CDs redundant, so is likely to cancel out with the quidco discount.
Has anyone any suggestions for fast RELIABLE cards - preferably branded as I guess they would be more likely to stick with the same factory.
I look like a Sandisk fan - having mentioned their kit twice - but my first phone with a memory card back in 2001 went through three of their cards, before a cheapo lasted until the phones features were too old to keep using it (but it still works - a SL45).
So any suggestions and thinks in advance?
htc have said that the hardware in most (if not all) of their phones is limited to slower read/write speed cards. ie the card may work in your pc, but the htc hardware is 'not good enough' to read it. the thread is on this forum somewhere...
try this thread
there are no branded (sandisk/kingston etc) cards

SDHC?

Will the Kaiser support SDHC? Anyone has already tried it?
**BuMp**
It appears that Kaiser does support this from the specs given by the online retailers that are now starting to form a crowd (with the release very near now).... But as most of us are still waiting for this wonder-machine, and not lucky enough to play around with a pre-prod unit, i'll have to ask it again to the lucky one....:
Does TyTN II support MicroSDHC cards or not ? Please enlight us...current owners of a Kaiser... 2Gb just isn't big enough anymore for a poweruser...
Ow....and by the way: i've already pre-ordered one from our distributor in NL: Dangaard Telecom (www.dangaard.nl), and they said it's due to arrive within 3 weeks or so (first half of september)...
Hi
Paul over at www.modaco.com has used an SDHC card in a pre-production Kaiser and it works with no problems.
Regards
Phil
i think its sad that its microSD, it should be mini, why couldnt they fit that? seriously we would all be running around with cheap 4-8gb with mini :/
microSD 4-8gb will cost an arm and a leg
I bought 2 4GB microSDHCs off eBay a couple weeks back -- only $60 each. 4GB miniSDHCs seem to run in the $50 range. Also, remember that 6 & 8GB microSDHCs are on the way. In fact at least one site is pre-selling the 6GB cards for $78 and are expecting to receive them tomorrow.
i'm super excited to be able to get an 8GB microSD card for this bad boy (when i get it). Just another reason to upgarde
Im currently using a 4gb micro sdhc in the Kaiser and it works great.
Me too using a 4gb micro sdhc in the Kaiser and it works great !!!!!
According to PDAEssential review of Kaiser it does officially support MicroSDHC cards...
But i'm not sure where are this guys getting their information from...

I am pretty sure that I will end up buying a 8GB card.
Let's see:
~ 1.5GB for GPS maps
~ 100MB for Dictionaries and References
~ 200-300MB for Applications and Games
~ 100MB for Family/Friends pictures and slideshows
~ 3.0GB for Music (about 600 songs)
~ 3.0GB for Movies/Videos (probably 3-4 all time favorite movies and a few music/fun videos)
That's approx. 8.0GB! I'm pretty sure my guesses are off but any free space is always good!
I am planning on getting a new Head Unit for my car that supports bluetooth streaming. That way I am set. I will have a GPS and a mp3 player wherever I take my phone.
I recommend the Sony BT headunits -- the MEX-5000BT if you need preouts, the 2500 if you don't. I've been using the 5000 with my Wizard since January. The phone & A2DP modes work better than any headset I've ever used.

What Memory should I use on Kaiser?

Hi guys, I am trying to buy a "SanDisk Mobile Premier 2GB Micro SD high speed", I believe it is fit for Kaiser, right?
Yep that'll work fine; be wary of buying on eBay as many tend to be fakes. Buy from a trusted reseller. I have got a 6GB for less than £40 delivered.
If your in the US, you can get great deals @ newegg.com
I purchased my 2gb microsd for 19.99, and 3 day ups is standard shipping.(costs like 3-5 dollars, on some cases its free shipping)
it supports cards over 2GB (Micro SDHC); i have a 2GB Micro SD for now, waiting for a 10-15GB model of the SDHC's to come out so i can dump all my music on it and ditch my iPod
dunno where ive got this from but i think/heard/got the vibe that the kaiser can only support up to 8gb sdhc?
that's great, I was think about a 2GB one but seems like it is not enough? Does Kaiser a good music/video player?

i get maybe 45 minutes out of a charge on the iPod anymore; it will permanently reside in my car soon enough. Dont get me wrong, the iPod is great and all, but pocket space is at a premium for me, and between wallet, cell/PPC, keys, iPod, ciggs, lighter, and PassCards my pockets are stuffed. If 8GB is the most the Kaiser will support, then so be it.

Yes we all need a slim pocket...
By the way here comes a new question, I found that all micro SDHC are come with CLASS 2, that means 9mb/s on reading and 5mb/s on writing... a little bit slow? It that necessay to buy a MicroSD Ultra II ?

if you have a 1-2GB micro SD card now, i'd wait a while unless your dying for memory space; they are bound to up the read/write speeds and lower the prices. I teach digital photography, a few years back read/write speeds of memory cards mattered a LOT, nowadays most D-SLR's have a huge cache so a superfast memory card isnt such a big deal, and the prices are fairly decent. My bet is in 6 months an 8 gig Ultra II Micro SDHC shouldnt be more than $60.
thats great to hear RacerX10; even 10-15GB should effectively mean i dont need to drag my laptop and iPod everywhere; 32GB means pretty much ALL my media with me.
SDHC spec is up to 32gig, today the max you can actually buy is 6gig. By the time you can actually buy a 32gig, we'll be using different phones like TyTN III

6GB Micro SDHCs are available - Sandisk seems to be th eonly real supplier at this moment. I'm sure others will have theirs out soon too. I just bought one from www.mydigitaldiscount.com in the US. Got it with no issues, and I've filled 4.5GB of it with music and video.
8GB MicroSDHCs are targeted for release probably around the end of the year. Again, Sandisk will be the first supplier.
No one has even announced an official "coming soon" statement for anything bigger than 8GB yet.

Kaiser is a real good video player(Using TCPMP), but it also depends on the format.
My favorite, and In my opinion, the best format is .m4v (You may need a special convertor for that)
Other formats are either 2 big, or has really choppy playback.
Also you should increase your font and glyph cache to 32768 (makes things more responsive/ smoother)
the SDA SD Card Association has never quite said the 'maximum' size of a Micro SD; there is a theoretical maximum of 32 GB, hence the 'limit' at the moment, which IMO means merely a new 'type' of SD card in a year or two. as for hardware that reads them, there likely is a maximum size they can read.
Currently Samsung has an 8GB Micro SD in development, Kingston and Sandisk are sure to be right behind anyways. besides, its just a memory card; i have piles of 128MB Memory Stick Pro Duo's that i bought for my Sony S710a when it first came out, and 128MB was still a fairly sizeable card for a cell phone; now we're talking 6-8+ gigs...

I'm only specululating, but by desoldering the internal memory chip on the mainboard and resoldering to a micro-sd cardslot, it could be possible perhaps. I would bet, the interface is the same and the chip on the motherboard is nothing else, but an unhoused, normal micro-sd card - don't know it for sure of course.
But if possible at all, handling the tiny contacts of smd-chips is only possible with special equipement, a lot of experience and the risk of destroying the mainboard.

That is possible. Discussed in another thread here.
So far, can only be used for flashing ROM, using an external card reader.
Diamond is missing drivers for accessing the card in WM6.1.
just bin the diamond
go buy a pro....
did you not know this before you brought it
Micro-SD
I saw a cable which is basically like the computer's usb extension cable but only shorter. It was under the phones category and my guess is that it should work and not just for flashing the rom!
So I'm looking in ebay now to get one of those little suckers and try it to confirm if my theory is right or wrong!

Hi Guys
Let´s face it. HTC could have build this device with a Micro-SD.
They are just learning from Apple. upgrade it slowly. next year, they surrely release a "upgraded" version, with a 5M camera and a MicroSD card, more Ram...

First of all, they could not have build this device with a micro-sd slot without getting thicker. And as the most of us want a thin and small device they made all right IMHO.
And why the hell should they learn from Apple??? How many PPC's did Apple build???
Like I said, I think they made a very good job with the Diamond.
So far....
I want a diamond with microsd
The touch pro is too fat for me (size and money).

Adding an SD slot would have added about 1mm to the thickness. Hardly a great amount in the grand scheme of things. However, it might have drained the battery even further, so maybe that's why it was left out.

micro SDXC 64GB

I'm wondering if the SanDisk Ultra SDXC 64GB would work in the HTC magic?
If it works, what file system is to be used? exFat doesn't work right? So Will I have to, like use partition magic to force a 64gb fat32 partition?
I have no experience with android 2.1 or any version for that matter, still awaiting delivery of my first android phone. The HTC Magic (unbranded, naturally)

In theory it should work... however I haven't heard of anyone using one before so I cannot say for certain. Give it a try and let us know either way.
Do Not bother getting it. A friend of mine working for FCC center. I snagged one to try out. Man it does not work with any format. Seems like this is hardware of the phone that can not handle it. Friend got technician to look at it, they are all confused why not.
All newer phone from Nexus One, will all takes in the card and read and writes it. But just slow.
Plus $350 is a rip off. The MSRP price for a 64GB SDXC is on $210 to authorized premier resellers.

$210 for MSRP? I told him it cost $110. He must be day dreaming aging while I was lecturing him. Anyway it is best to wait for compatibility check from phone manufacturing for best hardware compatibility.

A few of the phone specs I've seen has said up to 32gb but from my experience they're pretty unreliable at updating those figures as newer and bigger cards get released, that's why I started this thread asking for confirmation.
I'm going to sell off my HTC MAGIC vodafone branded and buy , either samsung galaxy 9000 or the new HTC Desire HD (european EVO4G). I just can't decide yet.
Not all new phones are ready for sdxc memory cards. They are both hardware and software prerequisite.
I would do some research on what phone u want to get. But at same time galaxy s sux, sdxc. Do not work with the card.
Warning spoiler : galaxy s pro will be compatible with sdxc. The phone will only be exclusive in Korea.

What he said. You can't just pop an SDXC card on an SDHC-compatible device. It's like saying you're wearing size 14 shoes because your size 11 foot fits inside those shoes.
It wont work because (AFAIK) Android doesnt contain drivers for SDXC. If you insert a SDXC card into your Android device, it will problably just treat it as a SDHC card.

That's a regular SD c ard, not a micro format, there are no known 64gb micro SDXC cards in existence. Also a 32gb, regular SDHC card is still 65$ US - and that's class 4, I can't begin to imagine how much a 64gb SDXC is going to cost.
Also how reliable will it be, there's limits to this stuff when managing the size of flash chips.
Now it exist
http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/26/kingmax-flaunts-worlds-first-64gb-microsd-card/
I'm pretty sure it will work - mine works in my SGSI, SGSII, Sensation, and Transformer.
http://www.androidnz.net/2011/09/sandisk-64gb-micro-sdxc-cards-confirmed.html
Now that the cards are proven to exist
And ignoring the question of cost, which is not a technical concern
There are a few objective questions that might merit answers, such as:
1-Are the micro-SDHC and micro-SDXC physical formats, the card sizes and contacts, the same or not? Web posts say that they are and are not, apparently half of those posts are in error and it seems that if the sdxc cards are working in sdhc phones--they are?
2-Is a specific file system driver, in the phone's OS distribution, needed? If so, what?
3-Is a specific file system format of the sdxc card itself required? If so, what? (Presumably requiring a format on a computer that provides for that option if the phone doesn't.)
And then of course, a list of phones actually known and confirmed to work with the precious beasts.
Personally, yes, I think 64GB on the removeable card is ridiculous. But then again, it will cost less than an iPod Classic and it will let me take an extensive music collection "everywhere". Which my own 32GB card won't right now.
There's a reason the iPhone4S has a 64GB memory option now. For some of us, the extra memory will be gladly put to good and economical use. If our phones support it.
At present no phone fully supports microsdxc, even if it reads the card, you wont get the full size or speed from a phone, even the fastest phone on the market cannot take full advantage of the speed of present card, and most phones accepts microsdhc at class 2-10, but you only get low transfer rate, I have the new 16GB uhs1 microsdhc from both toshiba (class 10) and sandisk (class 6), both have verys low speed just like that of class 2-4 when used in mobile phones, so uhs 1 microsdhc is out of the question in mobile phone.
I also seen available the sandisk 64GB microsdxc available in hong kong, not really expensive when compared to the USA, it's approximate USD150, will get one next month to try out.
That's way better than the US prices. Please DO let us know how it works out.
Personally, I don't care about not having full xc speed, etc., I'd be happy just to double the storage capacity. Sandisk US has no interest in the matter, all they know is that Moto "only supports" 32GB. Which they really don't understand means only that no one has tested 64GB sdxc in the phone, so no one has anything to say about it.
