Hi everyone,
I am having trouble getting my AT&T Tilt (official AT&T WM 6.1 ROM) connected to my Windows Media server at home. This server is setup to stream from a tuner card so that I can watch cable TV wherever I'm at. I had a T-Mobile Dash (unlocked with the same SIM used in the Tilt) before the Tilt and it was able to connect to the streaming server fine over it's EDGE connection so I know streaming works and all the ports are forwarded correctly to my streaming server. I am also able to view the video stream on my Tilt if I connect to my home wireless. It just doesn't work when connected to the 3G connection.
I get:
"Cannot perform the requested action at this time"
I have tried connecting to mms://myipaddress/tv, http://myipddress/tv, and rtsp://myipaddress/tv and all give the same error. If I connect to my home wireless LAN though I can stream just fine. I have also tried the core media player and the HTC streaming player and both give different errors and won't allow me to stream. (both work if I'm on my home wireless though)
I'm at my wits end and am ready to go back to my Dash since it works (albeit slower though). I can surf the internet fine on the Tilt connected to 3G but it just won't stream.
Any thoughts?

Here's some more information on the problem:
I reconfigured my streaming server to broadcast on port 80 (HTTP streaming) and I finally got CorePlayer to work (albeit really choppy). Windows Media Player and the HTC Streaming Media player still give individual errors each. Windows Media Player connects, attempts to buffer, and never gets past 0%. It eventually times out and says "Cannot perform the requested action at this time." HTC Streaming Media player just says "Media file type not supported".
The weird thing is if I connect using 802.11 wireless (on the same subnet and LAN as the streaming server) I can stream successfully with Windows Media Player. It just doesn't want to stream when using 3G.
The phone is unlocked using AT&T mMode (I'm an old AT&T blue customer) and internet connectivity works just fine.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Any takers? Crap i'll throw in a $100 reward for the first one that lands me the capabilty to stream video from my Dlink webcam to my Tilt! (not sure if that's legal on XDA but WTF!

i would say. just use orb.com, i stream my webcam on there and can view it from my tilt with windows media player or corepplayer. the 3g cam ive never heard of before. sounds cool. but if its not doing what it says it will do and your using the right software, then i believe that falls under the catagory of faulty hardware. u should return it. or youll just have to use it in the conventional ways---orb.com or other similar methods.

ycavan - there is nothing to see - it works fine over the internet to any computer. The issue lies in getting some type of interface (RTSP 3GP) on the mobile that will allow you to watch streaming video specifically designed from the 3G web camera.
And thanks Tazbo28, unfortunetly. i'll probably have to DL orb.com. I was hoping that i would not have to leave my computer running which really means just setting up another computer and using it strickly as a webcam portal. But the flip side of that is i can build a network of up to 16 cameras. OVER KILL but whatever!

I don't know but it doesn't look like it supports RTSP 3GP type. Anything is worth a shot i guess - Thank God for back ups/Active Sync.

Ive just got my Chromecast from Zavvi.com and got it all set up and connected to the wifi. I am ready to cast but am having some issues.
I cant get any videos or sound to come out from it
When I try to send a youtube video, it switches to that video, tells me what it is but the video doesnt play, simply displaying a black screen.
When I go to play music, it goes to tell me I am in play music but I cant hear anything.
When I go to play videos, same thing. Says I want to watch transformers - but then just displays a black screen.
I have also tried casting from my chrome tab, which works fine - but as soon as you go to youtube.com within your chrome tab and try to cast it... guess what... chromecast is aware of the film you have chosen to watch, but it doesnt actually play it.
I have it updated, devices are as follows:
Nexus 5
BT homehub 5
Acer laptop running latest chrome browser
Chromecast using latest firmware - it updated itself
The only thing it does flawlessly so far is casting from a chrome tab.

When you tab-cast from Chrome on your desktop, the video stream is being received by your computer and re-transmitted to Chromecast over your local network. But when you send a Youtube video to the Chromecast, it is trying to receive the stream directly, which fails in your case. Answer is obvious: the Chromecast does not have full access to the internet. Something in your router or network configuration is blocking it, but not blocking your computer.

I read on another forum, that UPnP and IGMP multicast is required at the router level for Chromecast to work. And that BT's new homehub 5 doesn't support this?
Is this true,would this be a likely cause?
Why would BT output a new router that didn't have functionality of old routers?
Any other ideas what might be the cause? The chromecast thinks it is online - it doesnt seem to say it isnt.

A few routers don't bridge multicast traffic between wired and wireless segments.
If you have any other Chrome extensions loaded, try disabling them.
Make sure your Windows network location is set to Home or Work, not Public or Unidentified.
Also, if you have antivirus installed, try disabling/uninstalling it to test.
If you have firewall installed, try disabling to test.

I just got my chromecast last week. The only reason I bought my chromecast is because I have an older (non-smart) tv that has no streaming capabilities, and my ps3 died. I have a PS4 but the ps4 does not support any playback of files (mp3, mp4, avi etc) like you could on the ps3. I had a big library of music and home movies on my ps3., and now I had no way to play this media on my tv. So I bought a chromecast.
Streaming from the PC works great. I use the videostream extension with the remote app for android. And videos/movies stream great with no lagging at all.
So I decided to try and stream data from my android phone. I tried just about every app on the play store. From Avia, to AllCast and everything in between. Yet everything I try lags terribly. Every video that I try and stream (even very short 10-20 second videos) freeze and buffer every few seconds.
I know my network can handle the streaming. I have a wireless AC router and 50+MB/s ISP connection. Also Once again streaming from my pc works flawlessly. Streaming from youtube app on my phone to the tv also works flawlessly. So why is it that I can't stream videos taken by my phone properly?
What is your phone? Can you try to upload a video from the phone to the pc and check the speed?

Sorry I should have specified that. I have the HTC ONE M8.

Using the wifi file transfer app, I downloaded a 126MB video file to my PC and it averaged at around 5.5MB/s (seems slow for wireless AC). Also my PC is hard wired to my router, and I was sitting about 2 feet away from my wireless router. So signal strength shouldn't cause an issue.
The phone has to work as a tool that not only transfers the video to the Chromecast, but it must also work as an on the fly media transcoder and server. This is a lot of strain for one phone.
Try casting a video with format and resolution that is natively supported on chromecast. But the speed from 5.5 Mb is also a bottleneck for casting a video with higher resolution.
The HTC one M8 is still pretty powerful in terms of phones.
I think I figured out the problem. I have a dual band router. I connected the chromecast to the 5G band (for obvious reasons. Faster speeds) but as it turns out I'm having issues with my router
I did a test on my phone. Sitting right next to my router so signal strength was excellent, I checked the link speed of both the 5G band and the 2.4 and the 5G band is only showing 24mbps Where as 2.4 band is maxed out at 74mbps. I'm not sure why my 5GHZ band is so slow. It's wireless AC and should be way faster.
I also did a speed that that confirmed it. While connected to my 5ghz band my speed was It 20mbps download. On 2.4ghz I averaged over 30, and then I suspect that the rest was limited by my isp.
So I believe since I have my chromecast connected to the 5ghz band, this is causing the sluggish playback.
The Chromecast doesn't support 5 GHz, only 2.4 GHz. In any case most people find that the range isn't very good with 5 GHz. If the signal has to go through a few walls, you might be better off with 2.4 GHz anyway.
But keep in mind that if both your phone and the Chromecast are using the 2.4 GHz band, streaming from the phone to the router and then from the router to the Chromecast is using 2x the wireless bandwith compared to your hard-wired PC streaming to the Chromecast.
The M8 is fairly fast for a phone, but nowhere near the performance of a desktop PC, so it might still be lagging due to memory/CPU performance issues.

I recently acquired a chromecast and would very much like access to the BBC Iplayer (I live in the netherlands). I can already watch Iplayer on my phone using the VPN option in android but once I try to watch it on chromecast it doesn't start the stream which is probably because the chromecast is connected to my home network which is not behind the VPN. I also can't mirror screen since I loose connection from my phone to the chromecast as soon as I connect my phone to the VPN.
Now I read that it is possible to do with a DDWRT router but I do not have one of those and I wouldn't want my whole network to be on a different IP, just the chromecast & if needed my phone. I do however have something that I would like to consider a lot more powerful than a router, namely a "Server PC" running windows XP professional. Would I be able to use this server and enable the VPN on it and then make the chromecast connect to the server? Would I need 2 USB wireless adapters or 1 (so my phone connects to 1 and the chromecast to the second. My server connects via ethernet to my modem)? Could I somehow configure this USB adapter to be connected to the VPN by default? Could I use virtualization software? I would like the most clean option preferably without affecting the rest of my server (but it would be OK if the server is temporarily in the UK until I have watched the show). Perhaps this topic can be extended to other devices with wireless capabilities like NAS and raspberries etc.

However I still think this should be possible on a windows XP machine with a wireless adapter.
On many Windows 7 PCs with wi-fi, you can use the following to create a hosted wifi network that your chromecast can connect to:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=XXXX key=YYYY
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
if you then share your VPN adapter's internet connection with the hosted wifi that you've created, you can connect your phone and chromecast to the same wifi XXXX and that will be connected to the internet via the VPN on the laptop.
