Didn't really find anything, but, does anyone know if it is possible for a "hard drive" activity LED, that would show you if anything is going on, during boot up, or if the TP just seems to be "stuck". I was thinking along the lines of a drive/CPU activity light that would blink if the memory/cpu or whatever is doing something. Better than just looking at the screen.

surely there has to be a way.. there has to be.. i'm not talking about pocket plus or anything, just something which lowers the backlight dim to 0 instead of 3, or whatever it is.
Heh, I'm searching myself for those dim settings for quite some time already (although it's actually the opposite that I want)... Saying there must be a way... Although noone seems to find it.
I have a TyTN (Hermes 200) and a TyTN II (Kaiser) and tested about everything I could with both devices. Whatever I do, the Hermes doesn't dim, and the Kaiser always dims.
Switched files, settings, whole registry dumps, and nothing.
Tried multiple ROMs of all available OS, still no go.
Last thing I can think of is that there's some inaccessible part of screen driver that's device dependant, and either supports it or not. Maybe some of the chefs can tell something about this...?
You need a registry editor for this. Search for "suspend" and when you see a string that says "batterysuspendontimeout" or whatever similar to that, change the value to the amount you want in seconds. That way, if your phone is inactive for, say 10sec, the backlight will turn off rather than dim.
I guess I could have been more clear. It's not that we can't turn off the screen completely (that's what suspend does). It's the backlight off function we're talking about. You can still read your screen.
On some devices this setting turns off backlight completely, on some devices it dims it to a certain percentage. It's the % of this dim that we're looking for to change.
But this is not in these Power registry settings, there's been many discussions about this before and I compared all these settings on my Hermes (backlight fully off) with my Kaiser (backlight dim) and they're all the same.
Try Lumos. It might be what you are looking for.

Hey, Last night I was texting with my phone. I closed the keyboard, and the screen didn't flip to portrait mode. I opened it and closed it again and it remained frozen. Then it dimmed, and the screen was consumed by red green blue and white lines. I did a soft reset and the phone turned on, but only a dim light emanated from the screen, no picture whatsoever. The phone did boot completely, I heard a text message come in, pressing buttons made the appropriate tone. I used no custom roms, nor did I get it wet.
Does this sound like a manufacturer defect? Is there a history of this happening?

It sounds like what happens when there is a connection problem between the lcd and the motherboard. If your mobile has warranty, then bring it in. The connections are a press fit type thing, and in my opinion very poor engineering. If you have nothing to lose, then find the dissassembly videos and make sure the connections are being made. Do a search for the "Microp Error". At least I think that is what it is called.
There are some hints there, I believe.
for starters it sounds like you have a pro, not a diamond.
the pro has a problem with chafing of the ribbon cable as it passes through the slider mech.
the cable conductors become exposed and short across the screen mount plate causing the display to lose colors or go blank.
On my HTC One phone there is a red light which is constantly on. It is on the screen near the upper left side. I've closed all apps but it is still on, quite confused anyone able to shed some light?
Have you changed your phone at all eg unlocked and put custom rom / kernel on?
That red light is the charging light. Not sure why it is always on. Id suggest a simple power off and on should sort the issue for you. Looks as it if has got locked in some sort of cycle.
So, one year ago, my C6602 felt on the water, for my bad, some of the waterproof doors were open. At first, it didnt damaged it at all, so i managed to turn it off, and wait cause we have a person who fix eletronic things. But, i was stupid. Even knowing that this would damage the phone, i did turned it on again...at first it were ok. One hour later, touch stoped working, couldnt turn the alarm clock off...then the screen goes off as well. Well, i did take it to stores who are specialized in cellphones and all of them told my cell was dead. Today, i decided to open it to see what the **** was happening, it turns out that i couldnt figure nothing out by myself, buttt i put the charger and got a red light. I though, its dead already, nothing bad will happen heeh. I let it for 4hrs~ charging, pressed the on buttom, but nothing happened, oh, at first, when i charged it a little, when i press the on/off buttom it would gave me 3 red notifications blinking, but that time it didnt. Instead, it went to green, and i could manage to access the cellphone on the computer (internal memory), all my files were there. Also, when chargin, it first showed me a red light, followed by a yellow/blank light, and, therefore, a green.
There is any chances that the cellphone isn't dead? Its this sorta of protection of your data what happened? Or the screen is really broken (and, by changing it, it'll be back to normal)? Thanks.
It seems that phone is turning on, but displays nothing. It may be display fault, but may be display related pcb malfunction also.
Any thoughts on how to keep the screen on forever like the LG V20 allowed me to? I realized that I never put my phone down, in my pocket, connected to a cradle, without turning the screen off first, so why should I use some low screen timeout number when I hate having it turn off on me when I don't need it to? Furthermore, I couldn't find a way to have my car dock setup keep the screen on without the use of an app on the LG, and I hate having a stupid notification on the bar to tell me "hey, we're doing something for you all the time, thanks for using this app!" if I don't have to. I'm trying to sell you on the idea, not sure why, but those are my reasons in case someone asks why I prefer it this way....
ANYWAYS, the maximum timeout is 10 mins on the Note8, and I couldn't find anything other than the setting in developer's options to keep screen on while charging (which, I'll have you know for those trying to suggest that one, dims the screen after a period of time - I don't know what that is, I just know I saw it do it once and turned that setting off because that's not what I need while using Google Maps and driving). Any thoughts on this, natively, within the phone's own settings somehow???

Just FYI, you can get rid of those "always running" notifications indefinitely by swiping the notification to the right and tapping "block notifications". It simply removes the card, and has no affect on the apps functionality.
Use Caffeine.
- Open it, give it the proper permissions (it will ask)
- Enable it
- Enable " Start at boot" and "Auto enable at boot"
- Close the app, open the notification panel, swipe right on the caffeine card and tap "block all notifications".
- As long as you don't go and change the display timeout settings in the actual settings app, your phone will never auto turn off, and can only be turned on/off manually just like normal.
And if app drawer clutter is something you want to get rid of, just hide the app icon.

I'm familiar with this method, even familiar with Caffeine, which I like more than any of the other junk ones in the Play Store, but I was hoping for something built-in that wouldn't require another running app to do something simple - Samsung / Android should have all the simple stuff figured out by now.... this was DEFINITIVELY the only thing the V20 had over the Note7 and now the Note8, I hated almost everything else about the phone but wasn't going backwards to the S7 when I had to turn the the Note7.
Thanks for your help, will use this solution until / unless someone has another (native, preferable) solution
Found the issue with using Caffeine as opposed to something native. Caffeine does a great job of keeping the screen in no matter what, any time it comes on. This also includes if the power state is changed, a missed call comes through, etc. It will turn on the screen, show you the lock screen, and just sit there.
The LG was capable of shutting the screen off after a short timeout when only on the lock screen, which would allow a notification or change in power from keeping the screen on indefinitely because it wasn't forcing ANY screen on input from doing it, only when unlocked, when it was appropriate to do so.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?
Be very careful. Unlike your LG v20 this phone has a AMOLED display. If you leave it on the same screen for a long time it will cause burn in on the display.
What ever happened to Screebl? I was going to recommend it to a friend, and couldn't find it any more... I guess it has just survived the port from phone to phone.

See signature - not my first AMOLED display phone.... When the screen is on for a long time, it's because I'm driving and using Maps and switching to Play Music, etc. I'm trying to avoid having the screen on all night long with it coming on when A) the phone gets fully charged, and B) when a notification or something wakes it because Caffeine is almost "too good" at what it does!
Hate that I had to use an app to do this, but I am really liking Screen Timeout that disables the timeout options Samsung gave us all together. Would love to know how to get this done, without the need for root, where I don't have to disable notifications for an app that constantly runs, though....
What it does, if anyone cares, is make none of the selections selected so the screen stays on ONLY when unlocked, exactly what I figured out I was looking for. I hope this helps someone else looking for a solution like this!
Here's the link to the app I'm using:
