I tried just about every input method including touchpal and indeed the best for me is PCMKeyboard. Two disadvantages:
-It works good as it is but much better after creating personal skin, dictionary, settings.ini. It takes a lot of time to do all that.
-It's still a beta, regularly expires, might be payware in the future (creator is disappointed about donationware earnings)
@Ather90: why do you upload anything trough Rapidshare?
-Cootech has a perfect download page on their site:
http://www.cootek.com/download.html
-lots of people can never download from rapidshare because their IP or government prohibits its use
-rapidshare is a slow download method unless you pay for it
-rapidshare downloads have no resume
-I've seen several crippled and 0byte downloads from rapidshare and I've read lots of similar reports in forums
-as far as I know Rapidshare stores uploads only for a limited time, they'll become erased and obsolete, dead, links...
It's a very nice SIP, but... it doesn't have a national language support so...
..and yeah, as Maggy said: ALL things you're writing about, you're putting them on RapidShare... keep in mind some authors don't like it. And it's unpractical.
oh .ok iw ill start uploading them sum where else and if the product has its webiste i will post it also...i will also upload them to FTP...
Is there an OCR program for our phone which would let you take a photo of a document/magazine etc and convert that into text. A bit like the worldcard Mobile app but more versatile. I have searched and have so far come up with nothing.
If anyone knows of such an application please can you point me in the right direction.
There is quipit or something named like that, that allows your phone to work as a scanner. You take a picture of the document, then email it to their server and they convert it to pdf for you. Try a search for quipit or similar through google, it should show up.
There is also a service called Scanr (Scanr.com) that does the same thing.
Thanks guys but I was looking for something that was entirely on the phone so I could take a picture with the camera and then transfer it to text. Would be so much quicker than typing out or pairing up to send some stuff. Never mind I'm sure someone will come up with it one day.
Here is a free OCR software from Joerg Schulenburg under GPL licence:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=de&safe=active&as_qdr=all&q=ocr+Schulenburg&btnG=Suche&lr=lang_en
It is just a backend-software but it runs with Pocket PC. We would need a WM6 frontend (GUI) with an integration of the Kaiser-camera.

I went to the web page but unfortunately I'm not that intelligent to work out what I needed to do. I need an app to put on my phone to do it all for me! Like World card Mobile does.
GOCR is a free software, that may fit to xda-developers.
http://dfn.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/jocr/gocr-0.44.tar.gz
There is a short manual inside, but it is no turnkey solution. GOCR even supports OCR for a proper handwriting.
Here is at least a Windows Frontend to GOCR:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Graphic/Graphic-Others/GOCR-Windows-Frontend.shtml
Maybe later GORC can become an app to put on the Kaiser (to do it all for us - like World card Mobile does).

Then you may have to wait a bit for someone else to do the work for you so all you have to do it run the .cab
At least one of the TyTN II localized phones didn't even come with World Card Mobile, so you at least have something.

You can use the ocr sdk for mobile devices from ABBYY.it is not free though.
http://www.abbyy.com/sdk/?param=56223
using this sdk, you can convert any image to text, either by using the camera or by browsing to an image file and processing it using the ocr.

Has anyone gotten this working with either GOCR or the ABBYY.it sdk? Or has anyone found an alternative application? The ABBYY FotoReader software would be perfect if there was a Windows Mobile version (existing version is for PC). If I was a software developer and had the time I'd get the sdk going, but it's beyond me at the moment. It really would be great to take a picture of a document and have it ocr'd right then available on your handheld like World Card Mobile does for business cards.

Hello every body
Iām looking for Automatic Number Plate Recognition software (OCR Optical character recognition) for Pocket PC.
I want to use it to recognize a license plate.
Is there anyone who already hears about it or use this kind of technology?
Thanks,
This is my first post, so to all of you out there, my name is Joe and I have been following this forum since I decided on buying an ATT Tilt (Kaiser) and you all have been a tremendous help in a lot of decisions I made with my phone.
Now onto the question at hand, I have some programming knowledge in the world of computers (C++, VB, etc...) but I was wondering the differences in trying to make a program for my phone. If someone can direct me to maybe a tutorial or another post that might help me, please do (I looked but couldn't find anything), I would like to start giving back to the forum that helped me out.
There isn't much difference between C++ and VB in general, just some prefer the less strict 'grammar' in VB and some prefer the clear 'grammar' in C++. Speed wise, if you were to be using M$'s classes, both ought to be the same, while if you were to write in pure C++ native language, C ought to be better compiled.
Another alternative would be the .Net thing. If I'm right (haven't been really using one), is a class package for both VB and C+ which seemingly make it easier to program.
Depends on what you have (i.e. the programming software), if you were to have Visual Studio 2003+ (or later, no sure), you can download the WM6 SDK, which includes tutorial on how to get started.
Well what I have on hand right now...nothing at all...I'm at work at the moment and in my freetime here would like to work on a few things, I've been analyzing some other pieces of software since I posted this and noticed the use of XML files for the setup.
I have no preference in what language I use (hell one I don't know yet would work for me...knowledge is a blessing in IT). Just wish to be able to take some of the programs I use at the moment (ex HTC Home, BatteryStatus) add a little more functionality for my own personal use since I really don't feel like copyright lawsuits.
Basically Hanmin, I guess it just boils down to what would you suggest to use with the available "tools" at hand or suggestions, I'm up for anything, new to this game, I figured I would get wisdom from the pros here to make myself useful in my downtime
"There isn't much difference between C++ and VB in general," - now there's a statement to launch a major debate! But I'll resist the temptation and move on to a more constructive response - PPL. PPL (Pocket Programming Language) is a great little package which gives you an IDE for developing pocket pc apps in a C like language on either the pocket pc itself or on a pc. Read about it and get a free trial download here:

Nice phone, huh. Step up from the Kaiser, that's for sure. Radio's a tad weaker and the phone's a little short on buttons but more importantly you need to get rid of the AT&T stock rom right quick and pimp your phone XDA style. Sure there are plenty of "cab corners" but they usually have a bunch of crap with no explanation of what the crap's supposed to do with 4shared fancy-boy GUIs or impossible CAPTCHA limited use Rapidshare links that just piss me off and make me sad. So I made my own collection on my own server with my own bandwidth with no sissy interface. Opera friendly too. So fire it up:

A+ work
Looks like an awesome resource you set up there, just got my fuze and will hook it up Mon. when I got time.
Thanks for your hard work bro!
whats with no ie 7?
sounds great! just wanna look at it...
lol
why does ie always f**k everything up?
boomin
Very humorous, Thanks.
Another Thank You!
Thanks for your time, and humor in creating this repository!
Solid work nephew, I can digg it! Nice collection of some dope cabs to use to trick out this beyotch. One thing tho....the left/right D-pad is sweatin me, any fix fo that? Peace
Awesome thread. I just picked up my Fuze on friday, and I was hunting ALL OVER THE WEB (including XDA-devs) for some worthy links.
Got 5 new cabs right off the bat, thanks
And I agree with the post above, the D-Pad is killin me...I just avoid left/right all together now.
Thanks! ... regarding the D-pad.
I appreciate your appreciation fellas.
The one thing pissing me off the most about the Raphael is the damn D-pad left/right issue. I mean, they take away the buttons and the thing they leave they screw up. Here's an entire thread on the issue in the general section - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446246&page=2 - which for the first page is a bunch of "me toos" but on the second some guy comes up with this idea which might be viable. It may never happen but it's good we got people thinking and maybe that thread will keep going toward a solution so subscribe to it.
Here's thedocrn proposes...
I propose someone should create software to do 1 of 2 things:
1) Use the G-sensor to control scrolling. This function would be activated by touching, not pressing/clicking, the center of D-pad. Similar to how you focus the camera. This action would activate the software thus allowing scrolling in all 4 directions by tilting the device.
2) Change the input so we only have to Touch the D-pad (like how we zoom in on pictures/Opera) to move in the desired direction.ā
He's offering money...
What would make me happy is to be able to remap the volume buttons. Anybody?
Thanks again for checking out my site!
HEY I just found this thread for GController which I think lets you dance around as you would with the D-Pad but by tilting the phone. Good luck configuring it. It's on my site or you can grab it off the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=429569
Hey d0ugie...
Check back on that thread you posted a link to regarding navigating with the Death-pad. A guy posted a suggestion several posts below mine, and so far (crossing fingers) this technique has been FAR more accurate!
I've tried G-controller, and although it's a nice program it's not one that I'd want running all the time. You have to 'align a center point' to start off, but if you lay your phone down or click it into a holster on your belt that will activate scrolling. Would be nice if this program can be activated/deactivated by touching/releasing the center cirlce (like focusing the camera lens).
I like your website! Will you take suggestions from users to add more cab files there?
good stuff, thanks for the cabs

Hi georgiejr ,
IE reports the error but it was ok with firefox. I have downloaded all the apps.
Thanks a lot d0ugie
Fixed IE bug.
Not sure why any of you are using IE but hey, each to his own, not going to judge you.
I deleted the XML line that was causing the problem and it works now.
AEBPlus.cab when installing says unsuccessful.. any ideas?
Ctrl key
I see that putty.exe is in the list of Fuze software.
I may be dense, but I can't figure out how to get a CTRL or ESC keypress out of the thing.
It's nigh impossible for me to do anything intelligent without vi or nano.
Are there any cabs in that list that will remap (temporarily or permananatly) the OK and windows keys to get me a CTRL and ESC?
re: putty
I know it sucks, all I use it for is tailing my apache access.logs. I tried googling for some alternative (like backspace is ^H) but I realized those keys involved CTRL themselves. So I think we may be SOL.
Awesome page! Thanks!
awesome work
you just made my day. I figured out most of the information then I came across your thread. You could have saved me more time! But thanks buddy. Great job.
I am using Windows 8 but found Metro is not so convenient as I imagine, especially when I look for a specific application or plug-in in my laptop. A rumor said that we can not use third-party apps to replace Start screen, is it true? What can I do about it? Can I use a 3rd party app such as Classic shell, Start 8 or Wentutu Start menu to replace it?
Any reply is appreciate, thanks in advance!
Moved to Windows 8 General.
I've heard good things of Classic Shell. But I'll stay with Windows 7 until support ends. If MS doesn't offer me a new Metro-free Windows (9/10) until then, I'll completely switch to Linux or buy a Mac.
Agree with the above. The only logical replacement for the Win 8 (lack of) Start Menu... is Windows 7!
I will never touch any OS with a hint of Metro or Ribbons in Windows Explorer!
I kinda like some features in windows 8 but the metro style is a complete no no.. they should keep metro only in the ARM version of Windows 8.
Use start8.. I use it and its a bit helpful..
Sent from my MK16a using xda app-developers app
:laugh:I do agree with you! Now my desktop is still with Windows 7 OS.

.SNATCH AND RUN YA'LL
Thanks, everyone here! I tried every app I mentioned and even more apps recommended by others. Last weekend (8/25-8/26, we may in different time zone), I installed all of them one by one. I'd like to share my personal feelings: 1. Classic Shell. It is really powerful and has many functions. What's more, it has many Start menu of different versions of Windows, thus users can choose whatever they like. 2. Wentutu Start Menu. It is a brand new app. It doesn't have the numerous functions but it is really simple to operate. The interface is brief either. 3. Start8. It is brief as Wentutu Start Menu as well. It enables quick access and searching of installed applications. 4. ViStart. Nothing different with Start8 (personal opinion). So, sum up, if you want try more and you are a very classic man even want back to Windows 98's Start menu, then you can use Classic Shell. If you are lazy (like me, the simpler, the better), then you may try the last three apps. By the way, what I am using now is Wentutu Start Menu, though it is a new app, it has Wentutu Speed RamDisk. This is what it attracts me. It's really fresh to me.
