Am currently with T-Mobile and have the HTC Kaiser(or vario 3 as they call it).
As I have an unlimited internet usage on the phone, I just wondered if there was an easy way I can route a text to a mobile abroad via the web(and therefore text would be free).
I don't want to have to go to a website on the phone and do it, I'd prefer to be able to send like a normal text but to send it differently so it goes via web to the mobile.
What I wanted to do is replicate what you can do from a pc, which is send a normal style text from a website to a mobile. On the recieving mobile, it appears the same as any other text, so wouldn't need it's own internet connection.
Is this possible? How easy is it?
You can't do that
but you can do what I do
Setup your email account to send/receive to ur MS outlook mobile/ w/e ur email application is...and u can send texts by typing persons' number at watever..like
for at/ t [email protected] . ...tmobile [email protected]
verizon [email protected]@messaging.sprintpcs.com
these ppl will get the text and can reply to it...and when u get the reply in ur email inbox...it'll see the contacts name...not like blah blah @ tmomail.net
i do it..i.t works greatt
I'd do that, but for some reason when I send an email from my phone, it sends out two copies... I would hate to send two texts everytime!
Edit: I just looked into this some more since I have 'the time' and I realized that it's just my gmail account that is seeing the double emails since it's saving a 'sent' copy on the phone and then doubles it up in the gmail.com app. (so this will work! Now I'll have to go through and setup everyone's texting email and another gmail account just to have the responses go through it)

after doing the 2.24 upgrade I have not been able to get my emails ... i get a text messages with a 701 .... please advise asap Andy
A 701 text message is a trigger message for your phone to download email. You have at least one email account setup through T-Mobile. If you still want to use the triggered email download simply run the T-Mobile setup application in Programs and tell it to download your existing accounts and you are done. If you don’t want to use that anymore like myself, log in to you’re my T-Mobile account and Go to Email and delete out your configured mailboxes and then manually configure them on the MDA. That’s all it takes.

Hi everyone
I was just wondering about what are cool program that you could use on the wing using the Data plan ( internet).
I currently have http://www.palringo.com/ which is a messenger program that runs on with data plan. It really nice program and for people that like to chat with aim, msn messenger etc...It doesn't require TXT plan.
I was also wondering about my mail. When i go to the AIM site to check my mails only see text, not picture what so ever..Is there something wrong with my phone or is just not mean to be??

is it an @aim.com? im sure thats a pop3 email account. Google pop3 settings for an aim account, and you can set it up so it uses the mail application on the phone, instead of using internet explorer. you can also set it to check for mail automatically anytime you want

When i got the new messg. i saw the picture but i wasnt able to sae it to my phone.
** is there any plug-in for these **
I have a new AT&T Tilt, straight out of the box with no modifications. I have it set up to track my Yahoo email account and my AIM account. However, both of them have big problems updating. On AIM, it takes almost a half-hour to receive or send a message after the message is actually sent. The email client is also telling me there are no new emails, even though I actually received emails in that account over four hours ago. I'm using the default IM client for AIM, because I have unlimited SMS with my plan, and I need to have AIM open all the time and be able to receive IMs even when the phone is asleep. I don't see why it should take this long regardless, considering I have three (or at least two) bars on EDGE at all times.
Does anyone else have this problem and/or know how to fix it, is possible? I need to be able to send and receive IMs and e-mails instantly at any time, and if the Tilt can't do that, then I need to find a different phone, which is a shame, because I really like the other features and the phone in general.
are you paying for your internet service?
Yes, I have a plan with unlimited data and SMS.
What is the deal with this phone? I just sent an email and it arrived over three hours later. I am required to have working email for my job, and this can hardly be considered working. What is wrong here? I don't see how all the other working professionals here can possibly be accepting of this and still consider it a good phone if it can't even handle simple email and IM. This is insane, considering no other phone offered by AT&T has this many useful features, and if I have to replace this phone it will certainly be a downgrade.
I don't think anyone else is having the same problems as you, which is why you're not finding anyone agree with your complaints.
Usually if you send an email and it arrives late, it's usually because of etiher the sending or receiving mail server, not because of the sending device. I have confidence that the email got from your phone to the email server just fine, and in a very reasonable amount of time.
Also, is there no 3G in your area?
AIM (instant messaging, not email) has always been delayed on all of the windows mobile devices I have used over the years (& on both Tmobile & at&t).
ATT is much faster than Tmob, but there is still a huge delay. That's why I stopped using IM'ing altogether.
As for emails, I set up an exchange email address on my website because for the last couple of weeks I have been unable to send or receive any emails through my AOL account. I have been going back & forth with AOL's tech support this whole time. My emails worked for a just one day during this whole time, & hasnt worked since! Whenever somebody emails me it tells them my mailbox is full even though I only have 29 emails! I erased all of the messages in my spam, sent & trash folders & still nothing. My AOL is what I have been using for many years for everything, its even on my website & all of my business card!
No as for the delayed messages, you may want to look into Push mail (using an exchange server). Do a search for it here & you'll see there are quite a few solutions (some free, some not). Push mail is essentially "instant" if you set it up that way & have decent reception.
I don't see how there could be problems with the email server, I'm using Yahoo mail, and I can send/receive emails fine with my PC, but if I email someone from my phone it take hours for them to get it, and if I receive an email, it takes hours for it to show up on the phone (though it still appears in my inbox instantly if I access it from my PC).
DJayRage, I'm not talking about delayed IMs, I'm talking about it would be FASTER for me to get in my car, drive across the state and tell them personally.
Also, I was told there was 3G in my area, but whenever I scan for service it auto-connects to EDGE, so I assume that's not the case.
I wish I could blame this on something other than my phone, but when it doesn't work, and nobody else is having this problem, I don't see what else there is to blame. Everything on my phone is stock. I'm using the Xpress mail thing or whatever it's called, and the 3-in-1 IM client that comes with the phone, so there aren't any 3rd party mods or anything that could be interfering.
Oh that may be your problem (Xpress mail). When I purchased my Tilt a couple of month's ago the ATT salesman told me not to use it because they've had nothing but problems with it. He wasn't specific, & I didn't ask what problems they were having. I use the built in mail app & that works fine for me. I get my Gmail, my Push mail & my AOL (when it's working) through there with no problems.
How do I do that? On the phone and in the instruction manual it said I needed to get the Xpress mail to check my yahoo mail. Also, do you think that using the built-in AIM client is what is causing the slowness, and that a 3-rd party app would work better?
Click on the envelope button on the button right hand side of your device. That opens up the default WM messaging application.
Once in there click menu - tools - new account. That's where you setup your accounts & options (since you want your emails sent & received as quickly as possible make sure to select "send & receive every 5 minutes". Also check off the the box in adanced settings that says "send mail when I click send" or something like that). Those options may drain your battery faster but that's about as quick as you can get emails, short of using a PC or setting up a Push Mail type account.
I never even opened up the manual that came with my Tilt. Any questions I had with my device I found answers for them here by searching (hint...)
Have you checked if you have 3G in your area?
I've yet to use the AIM app on my Tilt so I can't help you with that. Everytime I log-in to AIM I get random rappers spamming me trying to get me to check out their music.
How do I check if I have 3G in my area? Whenever I connect to the internet and it says searching for EDGE/3G, it always just connects to EDGE, so I assumed I don't get 3G. It's actually weird because other people have told me that we do get 3G around here.
Where are you located? You can check here to see if your area has 3G

When I push the envelope button, it brings me to the same thing it brings me for my old email account. There is no Tools option in the menu, and when I click the new account button on the screen, it gives me the same setup I went through to set up my current account after installing the xpress mail thing. There is also no option in the options menu for the s&r every 5 mins or the other thing, either.
.......bump?
i use im+ for iming. Its realtime and im on edge network with T-Mobile and no delays.
as for the email... maybe your push setting is at every few hours?

Sorry for the delayed response but I'm still not getting my aol emails, which is what I registered on here with. Can you install Capsure (free app that you will find here with a quick search) & send me a screen shot of what your email inbox looks like? I never used Xpress mail, but it sounds like Xpress Mail took over the Envelope button so it goes there instead of the WM6 Inbox (default).
You may try reassinging it start > settings > personal > buttons > (mine shows button 2 assigned to "messaging", what does yours show?).
PS my email address that you can send the screen shot to is rage at djayrage.com
By the way there's an ATT store by my job & the sales guys come into the building I work at all the time (dropping off phones to clients) so I asked one of the them the other day more details about Xpress Mail (this was the same guy that sold me my phone & told me NOT TO use Xpress Mail).
He said Xpress Mail fetches your emails, stores it somewhere on ATT's server's, & then eventually "pushes" it to your device. (Opposite operation for emails being sent). So that may be what is causing the lengthy delays. You may have new emails sitting in your email providers inbox, but they may not be on Xpress Mail's servers yet.
Just use the default Messaging application & cut out the middle man (Xpress Mail).
Well, it was set to messaging, so I guess it wasn't using Xpress Mail after all, regardless, I uninstalled Xpress Mail, deleted my email account, and added it again, so hopefully it will work better this time.
I will also try IM+ as well and see if it works better.
Any updates? How's your emails working now?

There are a couple of specialist bits of software available, however you'll end up paying for each SMS that gets sent and it will still have restrictions on message size, etc.
An alternative would be to have your PC "dialling up" into a SMS gateway when it receives an email (using software of course to turn the email into an SMS format). You'd find though that it gets incredibly expensive *very* quickly. (I used to run an SMS gateway based on dialup!)
Given I'm assuming you have a Kaiser anyway, why not just have your email delivered to your PDA or set yourself up a nice IMAP account somewhere or, if you're feeling flush, get yourself an exchange account and use Push email?
BTW... If you want to play with a private IMAP server, message me off list and you can have a tinker with the mailserver I run here.. I don't support push mail however as it's not something I need.

I set up a rule in my outlook, whenever I received an email, it will forward that email automatically to my [email protected]. I've been doing that, but now for some reason, I can't receive any of those forward email anymore. In addition to that, when receiving that email, I only get the header... there just not enough character as an sms to receive the body of the email

Hi, was wondering if there is a way to do just the opposite. My husband and I work in a place where we use alpha/numeric pagers. On my old Moto W490, I had no problem sending an SMS to his pager (same sort of address, 10digit#@someplace.com). My tilt says that it's unable to send and SMS message to an email, so it gives me the option to send it MMS. When I do it that way it SEEMS to work on my end but the message is never received. Any ideas why that may be or how to fix it? Thanks, Maggie
I've been trying to find a way to fix this...
Is there a way or a setting somewhere that stops the Tilt from downloading messages I send/reply or is that a setting a gmail. It is annoying when I reply to an email using the gmail web interface or with outlook on my PC, then my phone will download my mail as a new message. I don't really want to set up some sort of filter, since some times when I send an email, I will CC myself, but I am just annoyed by it downloading every single reply.
Uuuuuhhhhhhh o.k.
stop CC'ing yourself, just check your sent box... too simple or not complex enough a solution?

Did you read the problem or not understand it? The problem is when I reply to emails, the Tilt will download it as a new message. Where did I state that I CC myself all the time? What does checking my sent messages have anything to do with what the Tilt is downloading?
little snippy...
Pretty sure you not only said it, but now you've highlighted the fact that you sometimes CC yourself on emails sent, so yes, you would receive a copy. You would check your sent box to view messages that you have sent rather than CC'ing yourself. Mighty snippy for someone asking for help. Are you using a threaded version of Gmail? that's the only reason I could think you would receive a copy of the conversation, aside from CC'ing yourself.
If you read it, it says SOMETIMES. My problem is EVERY email reply gets downloaded. The CCs aren't a problem and not something I am complaining about. I am complaining about all replies done by me being downloaded as a new email. My response to you would have been different if you actually replied like you read it what the problem was.
updated after you posted
Trying again, are you using a threaded style of Gmail or the true Gmail website?
Not really sure. I rarely ever use the gmail website unless I am at a different computer. Most of my email comes to my phone and PC, which I remote into during work and just use Outlook to respond if I can. I'll try to explain the problem better. I apologize, just having a hectic day at work.
When someone emails me, the Tilt will download the email.
I will reply back using the tilt, or Outlook on my PC, and every once in a while, the gmail web interface. NOT CCing myself.
Tilt then downloads again, my reply and puts it in my inbox.
The only time I CC myself, is when I send out a new email that I feel is important. I do this because I like to have a copy for myself, and I empty my sent box on a weekly basis.
Also, I just did a web search on this threaded gmail thing you were talking about. It appears that is a 'feature' in gmail and it can't be disabled. It puts my replys in a 'conversation' style so it thinks that my replies are new messages and just downloads them. I guess I just have to deal with it.
More questions
Does ONLY the tilt capture all replies or do they also show up on your box at home and is this independant of from where you reply (home box or tilt)? Gmail uses a conversation view that shows reply messages as a long conversation would appear in MMS/SMS. I can't imagine that this would cause the problem but may be another piece to this puzzle.
Don't worry about my comments, I'm a smart-ass. Pretty much everyone is here to help and there are many more smart-assier (and just plain smarter) than me. Just roll with the punches and enjoy the website.
I must type slowly
I use Gmail and reply from my tilt as well, but have not had a problem. But i don't use a web app, I have gmail as a separate account that I access just like standard push-mail. What way do you use gmail?
Same problem
When I used my tilt I was having the same problem. I would send an email from my tilt (from a push account I had set up on the phone) and would receive a copy of the sent mail as a new message. I had that phone for 2 years and used various roms and could never stop it from doing so. It was very annoying to say the least. Some light on this matter would be awesome.
If I can, I just use email from the phone, or outlook on my PC if there is a large attachment. It only does it on the Tilt. My outlook on the PC is only showing up the emails from other people, and not myself. I can see on the web interface my replies though if I log on.
I have it set up on the Tilt as an account as well, so I am not using the gmail interface thru the phone. Not sure how I have it setup or if it is a seperate email software. I just click on messages and added the email account. It doesn't matter where I reply from. I also have a Yahoo account set up and it doesn't do this.
Also, the phone info:
Duttys WM6.1 build 19700
radio 1.65.14.06
I had this problem once and I was because I forget to change the "[email protected]" that I used during the initial setup back to my actual e-mail address.
I just fixed the issue. I deleted the account from the phone and recreated a new one and set it up as IMAP. I think the issue at first was because I had it set up and let the phone download the settings for me and it configured it as POP. This time, I set up everything manually and tested it out and it appears to be fine now.
