Multiple Home Screen plugin?

I know there is a program out there somewhere that adds a pretty basic multiple home screen setup. I tried Spb mobile shell but it is not as configurable as I would have hoped...
I basically just want to have HTCHome/HTCHome Plugin on one screen and SBHC Pocket breeze on another, and maybe a third for more in depth system monitoring.
Anyone know the program that does this?
I have looked around and I am having trouble figuring out the proper search terms to define this program...
TIA!

Search for ultimate launcher
Why wouldn't you just put the HTCHome on a tab in Pocketbreeze?

Thanks for the infos guys!
I have a wonderful combination of plug-ins
SPB Pocket plus for Tabs (4 total, you can go up to 6) in top of Ultimate launch (can go up to 6 taps)
Some of SPB+ taps are from SPB mobile Shell
Everything works flawless on my TYTN II

Linux on HTC SHIFT (MSM7200 side)

Hi,
I read in the Kaiser thread a bit about how to install Linux on MSM7200 but i realy didn't get how to enter the shifts bootloader and how to move a "kernel image" aand boot it. im a noob when it goes to HTC devices but im expirienced when its about Linux, and i realy would like to get linux into my HTC shift (not the Stealy side)
Is anyone out there who could give me some hints and starting points ... tried nearly al buttons while WinMo start to enter bootloader but there must be another trick or ?!
HardSPL'ed Shift with TECE's rom
Kind regards
Neutron
(ps. could there be a small possibility to run Android in it ?!?
pps. anyone looked around what the difference in wireing is from shift (MSM72k) to Kaiser MSM72k could we "build our kaiser roms to work on shift ?!?) <--- only thoughts ?
On WinMo side you must use HaRET to boot linux images. There is no working image for Shift yet, and I don`t really know if anyone is working on it. Before you can really start working on android you probably have to have sdcard-support enabled on your WinMo. It would be nice to get android running on shift
Has anyone tried running haret and start the network listener? It could reveal something about the hardware I guess.
Hi there tried it with HaRET and tryed the kaiser android rom from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396782
it nearly booted but stoped with the following error code !!
failed to lock 5387 pages (Code 998)
Anyone around who would like to get it working to and familarr with haret ??
I just tried and will go to debugging later on
nvmpk: i'll try to connectt it when im at work ! i think the same i would like to get the phone side working and i think the linux environment could give easy'er lookthrou than the ****ty windows mobile
So first of all it would be nice starting point to just get linux console working. Before even get there, someone have to create kernel that has support for shifts keyboard and screen etc odd hardware.

How much RAM does it have ?
I got my shift boot with HaRET to that point when "HaRET: booting linux" progressbar completes fully and then screen gets black only Haret 0.5.1 text and that bar is on top of window.
Just go to WinMo side and disable all items from today screen, run cleartemp, then switch to vista side and hibernate/shutdown. Then again back to WinMo side and soft reset. After that start HaRET and when the windows mobile start menu is on bottom of the screen click it, go to settings->system->memory and close all running programs and close all other windows except HaRET and then run it.
22.1-22.4MB (43.05MB total) memory free for programs with those actions.
EDIT: This works about 2 times of 200 attempts. Usually it hangs when "HaRET: booting linux" progressbar is about 95% completed.
Okay guys,
UPDATE:
I made my first 2 kernels from the ones at linux to go
first with the htckaiser config wich gave an flickering fullscreen purple !! seems msm7200 can address full screen!
second kernel done with versatile-default config, there it did the following:
i made a haret log 2 interessting parts: Framebuffer overlaps with kernel
and stand still
after go go go...
Anyone could help ??
if anyone could help me with the stuff i could dump stuff from the shift for you !!
thx
dump
as i was idle'iin in freenode htc-linux someone sayed me that dump of mmu would help so i attach it here. if you need something else please say

News
Hi people who are interested in getting MSM7200 linux kernel running .
Some Breaking news:
Edit: i was WRONG i know it with the addresses now
any updates on this project?
Yeah i got framebuffer to work, as im very busy with work and it seemed that nobody seems interested in it i did my development for my own. when im ready to get it fully booted & access the 3g data channel i will post an update.
Or is there some real intresst in this project (as i dont want to keep my stuff for myself) And some programmers that are willing to help with the dev in it.
Greets
I'm interested!
An instant-on Linux machine would be great. I don't need any MS stuff like Activesync, so for me it would give a nice flexible solution, if there was enough memory for some apps, and the 3G worked from the other side.
I hope it succeeds.
Thanks for trying.
Matthew
interrest sure, developers who are able to help with that topic(linux interns) unfortunately not.
Any news?
Hi everyone, I have stepped on your thread by pure chance while looking for a real alternative for my Shift and I have found it enlightening...
The fact is I am not too happy (even if slightly satisfied) with the brand new Windows 7 RC (build 7100) and the windows Mobile running on the Shift and would love to try an all-around linux solution... however there would be no point in getting linux on the Intel/Vista side if I would have to be stuck with Windows Mobile on the ARM/WinMO side, in my opinion at least...
Anything going on here to put linux on the ARM/WinMO side? I am not a developer but if there is anything I can do to help out reaching the goal...
Have a nice day!
Is there svn or cvs placed anywhere for this project? Just wanted to know if there is possibility to get current project files..
Has someone cooked small rom that only contains usbtool and haret or is this going to be used with kexec-bootloader that can boot from network storage?
well it has been a while when someone wrote to this topic.. I have been working with linux for MSM7200 side for shift for couple of days. There is buildroot called toolset to compile kernel+uclibc+busybox and I have been wondering if that could be used to build console only linux for shift to replace winmo.
I got first build created today but it did not end up anything special. haret loads kernel completely(or I thought so as there is nothing errors on haretlog.txt). It just does not show anything after booting with haret, so there is something that should be done to get correct drivers or settings for screen..
Here is first bootlog for shift without mmc support:
http://pastebin.ca/1845069
EDIT: there is also wiki page created for shift msm: http://htc-linux.org/wiki/index.php?title=Clio
Hi, I have bought this phone.
And I wan't to install Linux on it.
For the x86 Side (Intel) no problems.
But I don't wan't have ANY WinMo.
Can I flash to ARM Rom to input an Android OS ?
Can use whole screen, or not (the wiki say not ...).
Any peoples can boot Linux on ARM, and phone with ?
Thanks.

Better Terminal Emulator Magic

Just showed up in the market. Awesome works the 1.5 soft keyboard. Has its quirks but does have some good uses, an update was put out this morning to fix the enter key problem.
great find! it's so hard to sort through the **** apps these days. can't wait until we get a well needed market update.
Just to let people know they have a message saying it doesn't work on some modified Roms. I'm on 6.0h and it didnt work for me. it went into a force close loop even when i wasnt using it.
Its a step in the right direction, but its not all there quite yet. VERY HELPFUL though
1) There is a problem getting the <enter> key working. I find that I need to roll around the scroll button a bit before the enter key will work after starting or switching users.
** another way to deal with this is to use a different shell. For some reason, using full bash instead of sh works. There are other (great) advantages to this (more on that later).
2) You can't see what you're typing when in landscape mode, which is the only way that the VK is actually practical -- keys are too small to use effectively in portrait.
3) If you use a colored shell, the colors screw up when switching to/from the vk. Must be something to do with how he's buffering and redrawing the console.
On using bash instead of sh...
Advantages:
1) color
2) BASH HISTORY
3) scroll wheel = arrow keys
4) lots more -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bash
How:
copy bash into some executable part of the filesystem
create a bashrc file anywhere at all in the filesystem.
put in your bashrc the following:
Code:
PS1="[\w]\\$ "
HISTFILE=/some/path/file/with/write/permissions
** this is of course a regular shell script, so add whatever startup code you like in there, like a custom PATH, etc.
IN the "better terminal emulator" program, menu --> preferences --> command line and set it to "/path/to/bash --rcfile /path/to/bashrc"
And of course, running the following:
Code:
su -c "/path/to/bash --rcfile /path/to/bashrc"
will give you root with bash and the same setup as your regular user, including a shared history file (note that the history file is only updated when bash EXITS and so it is current as of the moment you initially LAUNCHED the terminal app.
Note: I like to write that su -c line into a wrapper I call "subash" that I place in the path.
bash is attached for convenience, its a .tar.gz file with an extra extension to confuse the newbs (and trick the forum filter into allowing it).

Thanks Great tip!

using bash as default shell
Id love to use bash, its the shell im used to and since Im not that good at *nix having bash would help, 1 cyanogen rom had ash(i think) and then none of the scripts floating around worked and so they needed to be edited(something that sounds a bit tedious)
Id also like a decent prompt, maybe color ls and all those bells and whistles, I think this could be well received with all the bugs worked out and maybe a script that would make any scripts found on the device into a format that bash needs...
the biggest is the lack of history, I have used a good variety of linux and unix shells and droids is the first without cmd history, a prompt with 'pwd' and tab auto complete...
cant we just get a REAL shell, is that so wrong?

Very nice and very useful. Thanks for providing this!
One feature lost in this build of bash: Job Control (^Z, jobs, fg, bg, and %number commands to manipulate jobs). Hitting Ctrl-Z suspends the bash shell and all its child processes.
The existing sh shell supports job control. This build of bash does not.
I'm going to have to learn how to set up a cross-compilation environment. Another project to add to the list...

How to determine current CPU Speed?

Hey there,
I'm wondering if my CPU is ramping up and stepping down appropriately. Is there an ADB command that can be ran at any time to see what the CPU speed is set to? I tried dumpsys but it wrapped my screen so fast I couldn't find anything. basically it took a dump on me literally. Should have expected that.
I'd like it to be in ADB as that way I can check when the screen is off and keep from interacting with the screen as I'm sure that would ramp it up to full speed. Thanks!!
****EDIT*****
Found what I was looking for from an ADB standpoint, although I would still like to know how to do it from DDMS also, as that tool is my new friend.
1. start a shell session (adb shell),
2. then run "cat /proc/cpuinfo" to get the BogoMIPS.
And then your good friend the up arrow to save some typing
Go into tools directory and just run ddms, not adb. Should open up a convenient window. Lotsa goodies in there.
i am interested in this as well, or maybe even an app that shows what the current clock is, like on windows mobile i used homescreen ++ to show in the system tray what the cpu was doing.
but then again, i used to watch that and obsess over it so maybe that's a bad idea

Wow, what a wealth of cool info!
However, I'm still enough of a noob to this particular tool that I can't find the CPU speed. Can you steer me in the right direction HeroMeng or others? Thanks!!

Should I use a 3rd party application to replace Start screen?

I am using Windows 8 but found Metro is not so convenient as I imagine, especially when I look for a specific application or plug-in in my laptop. A rumor said that we can not use third-party apps to replace Start screen, is it true? What can I do about it? Can I use a 3rd party app such as Classic shell, Start 8 or Wentutu Start menu to replace it?
Any reply is appreciate, thanks in advance!
Moved to Windows 8 General.
I've heard good things of Classic Shell. But I'll stay with Windows 7 until support ends. If MS doesn't offer me a new Metro-free Windows (9/10) until then, I'll completely switch to Linux or buy a Mac.
Agree with the above. The only logical replacement for the Win 8 (lack of) Start Menu... is Windows 7!
I will never touch any OS with a hint of Metro or Ribbons in Windows Explorer!
I kinda like some features in windows 8 but the metro style is a complete no no.. they should keep metro only in the ARM version of Windows 8.
Use start8.. I use it and its a bit helpful..
Sent from my MK16a using xda app-developers app
:laugh:I do agree with you! Now my desktop is still with Windows 7 OS.

.SNATCH AND RUN YA'LL
Thanks, everyone here! I tried every app I mentioned and even more apps recommended by others. Last weekend (8/25-8/26, we may in different time zone), I installed all of them one by one. I'd like to share my personal feelings: 1. Classic Shell. It is really powerful and has many functions. What's more, it has many Start menu of different versions of Windows, thus users can choose whatever they like. 2. Wentutu Start Menu. It is a brand new app. It doesn't have the numerous functions but it is really simple to operate. The interface is brief either. 3. Start8. It is brief as Wentutu Start Menu as well. It enables quick access and searching of installed applications. 4. ViStart. Nothing different with Start8 (personal opinion). So, sum up, if you want try more and you are a very classic man even want back to Windows 98's Start menu, then you can use Classic Shell. If you are lazy (like me, the simpler, the better), then you may try the last three apps. By the way, what I am using now is Wentutu Start Menu, though it is a new app, it has Wentutu Speed RamDisk. This is what it attracts me. It's really fresh to me.
