What is Android??

Xperia Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=456595
FAQ!
Warning: Please note this is still in very early stages. If you don't know what you are doing... NOTE: YOU MIGHT BRICK YOUR TOUCH HD!!
If I boot Android and then restart will WM 6.1 boot normally?
Should happen. Plz note the warning at the beginning of this FAQ.
Will Android ever fully function on the Touch HD?
Only time will tell.
I have problems with the touchscreen or virtual keyboard?
Touchscreen and virtual keyboard drivers are in early stages, useful only for developers to run stuff in the shell to make the rest of the drivers work. If you supply calibration data in the kernel boot option, make sure its your data. If you don't, make sure you properly calibrate.
How to run Android 1.0?
Don't expect great usability from it yet as a lot of functions aren't working yet. Please look in the progress section.
After I've restarted my device i can't execute the most of my applications. I get everytime the "unsigned certificate" error message.
Hopefully this helps. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2844228&postcount=15
Can I help porting Android?
Help is welcome. Contact other developers at #htc-linux on Freenode, or here on XDA.
When I boot Android 1.0 it prompts me for a PIN, when I enter my SIM PIN it says its not correct (but I'm sure it is).
The only currently known way around this is to disable 'PIN required to use phone' in windows. (By the way: this means your radio works. Congratulations.)

So 1.0 is actualy booting or what??

hi xmoo,
with storm, there is a popup after clicking on run, telling me that it boots the image but the device hangs up after a minute
with the android 1.0 package, there is no popup after clicking on run and the device hangs.. i keep it hanging about 3 minutes then i restarted the device
sorry for my bad english

Tryed Angstrom and Android 1.0 and with both the phone hangs, and nothing.. Hard reset is the only thing that works..
But keep the files comming for testing, I think there is alot of peps that would love Android to run on the HD
Thans mate..

Maybe a lazy/stupid question, but whilst I know what Android 0.8 and 1.0 are (and know about the cupcake branch), what is Angstrom?

I'm also stuck at HaRET: Booting Linux..
The loading bar is full, but nothing happens.. Have to soft reset.

Hmz, this is hard for me cause I don't have the deviece.
The donations from the Xperia side are going good, but stil not enough for me to get a Touch HD.
Will try something new soon. But a.t.m. I'm very busy with skool.

Android 0.8 test 1
I tried Android 0.8 files on my Blakstone, with the usb cable connected to my PC (Windows XP) with Activesync.
HaRET didn't hang, and the pop-up said "booting linux".
Then the booting started up the same way as the current booting video, in VGA first then rapidly changed to WVGA. The booting text in the terminal is completly messed up and is not readable. However I can recognize an onscreen keyboard on the top of the screen, I can even see a distorted Tux The mess keep animating: unlike in the previous video, the screen doesn't freeze. However we can tell that the text doesn't scroll any more at that point.
In the meantime, my PC detected a new Hardware "MSM USB".
MSM is for Qualcomm® MSM 7201A the Processor of the HD, so I looked online for the drivers. I found this gadget driver for Qualcomm MSM 72k, might be useful.
After quite a while, the screen stopped moving, so I touched the screen (not on the keyboard, just right in the middle of the screen).
The pattern of the moving mess changed: The screen got almost empty with just the keyboard, then kept animating again (on the keyboard).
After a while, I took out the stylus and the screen animated mess changed again, then the screen turned off. I couldn't turn it on by pressing the power button, so I soft-reseted it.

It might be possible to get us 3G if you get android working dont you think?

So it is actualy working abit???
We are on the right track.
But as I said, I need to get me a deviece fast

Hey there,
First, thanks for posting the links.
As for the tests, I had the same behavior as gaelynx, which is the same as diamond/raphael but with the right resolution.
Does the xperia uses the same mmc as diamond/raphael? is that how you got to run android 1.0?
Do you think you could give me some pointers on how to debug the screen problem? I would love to have android running on my blackstone. I have a building environment and been playing with the code but nothing so far. We can meet on irc or via email...

Its becouse of the screensize!!! You cant take from xperia 3.5 inches image to touch HD 3.8 inches

I looked at your 2nd Android 0.8 Sony Ericsson Xperia Boot video.
So ok, we should hold the HD up-side-down then the keyboard would be at the correct place .
Apart from the messed up screen, the booting obviously goes up to the red loading bar, then turns off.

This is the Xperia image and it has the wvga xperia size screen in it.
You could open it and edit it.

Windows Mobile 6.5 "21193" [Fixed Beta Timebomb] 7/8/2009

THIS ROM IS NOT PERFECT, IT HAS BUGS, TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK
Hello, I have recooked the 21193 ROM, which includes the timebomb fix. No beta warnings, stable, and fast. This update doesn't add any new features and still retains the bugs from 21193 build. The update has been supplied to fix the timebomb. You can continue using 6.5 for as long as you want
The ROM is now just bare bones - this means only what comes with the build, no extra applications (you will have to install yourself). The timebomb is 100% fixed, and more stable than the last versions. The bugs are still here, but I am working on a new ROM soon!
!!!! IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE BECAUSE YOU DID NOT READ ABOUT UNLOCKING AND FLASHING ROMS BEFORE YOU FLASH THIS ROM I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY !!!!
thanks goes to veisen, JayDee89

woah thanks man, what kitchen did you take for this?? maybe we could get a rom based on the final build
In allot of ways I like 6.5 better than 6.0, 6.1. It seems pretty stable, the main problem is being able to invoke the slide keylock using the red button. That would be sweet.

I'll see what I can do, no promises
Do any of you ROM cookers know what program invokes the device lock. I think it is the screen lock dll but how could you start that using a shortcut?
I searched through the registry and can't find where it is at. I think the program relock in startup is the actual program but not sure how to start it apart from the today plugin or the left softkey when you are in the startmenu.
i'm gonna try out the Windows 6.5 now. Can't wait to see it in action.
Updated the ROM, should work flawless now. Update your device with the new version in the link above.
You sir, are a genious!
Thanks for breathing new life in to my old trusted Palm Treo 750!
So far so good...but we'll see what heavy daily use does to it.
One thing I noticed is that when typing in a phone number you need to activate the numeric keys first using the white button.
Something others have already noted is that the red phone button doesn't put the phone in standby...
Edit: For some reason I can't connect to the 3G network...I can use the phone to call. Other people can call me, but it won't connect to the internet. Weird. Might have to go back to 6.0 just for this
I need to know how to update my phone with this file.
i've got wm 6.5 installed but it's still got the timebomb
please help. can i use the same rom updating utility used to initially update from 6.1 to 6.5?

Here's a short guide:
1) Download the file - CHEEIMG.nbh
2) Copy the file to your SD card and re-insert the card
3) Keep the miniSD slot on the right side of your device unlatched
4) Press and hold the media key (oval button on left of device)
5) Use your stylus, and touch and hold the tiny reset dot at the miniSD latch
6) Hold these together until you see the red/blue/green bootloader flash
7) You should come to a gray screen with blue lettering, flash your phone

I am aware of these issues, and if I can I will fix them, but no promises unfortunately. I'm not sure about your internet problem (I am connected to 3G right now), you might try a reflash. You can also try flashing another radio from this page to fix the problem: http://www.crc.id.au/files/xda/Radio_Roms/
thanx for the step-by-step instructions. i'll try it now. i was an idiot and didn't see the second page on this thread till now.. lol.
ok so i followed your instructions and now i'm looking at a screen with the three coloured bars in the background and the screen says

IPL-0.20
CHEE100
SPEL-1.40.OliNex
Serial
_______________________________
How long should it stay on this screen for??, been about 5 mins.
well i soft reset it and it started up ok but still with timebomb.
should the sd card be blank with only the one file on it?
edit: so i took a cleaned sd card and put only the CHEEIMG.nbh file onto it and held the media button while pushing the soft reset button and it came to the same screen that i described above. What's actually supposed to happen after this point?
am i doing something wrong?
FINAL EDIT: YAY, figured it out. my SDcard wasn't formatted to FAT32. it's updating now. thnx for the help hehe.
there are still a few bugs in Windows Mobile 6.5 but like pretty much everyone is saying, it's freaking awesome.
I think the only request i'd have would be for the text messaging to have text size options, as i can't find the settings for it anywhere on the phone. As well as i'm seeing some random characters in front of each chat line within text message conversations including a series of squares.
Oh, and the battery bar isn't shown on the top bar. other than that and a few other tiny issues, it's an awesome OS.
Is there a way to patch the ROM so holding the red button activates the device lock? I don't know maybe I keep asking too much here.
Very cool ROM though.
if you hold the White button (bottom left hand button) and the red button it will lock it. at least it does for me. it may not put it in standby mode, but i just set mine so that after a minute it automatically turns the screen off.
thanks for share sir
i've upgrading my treo 750v ,now i will try to update my treo 750v to wm 6.5
thanks for share and bravo xda developers
forum GOOD LUCK
maybe this software can help with the power button:

(did not try- waitting for someone who can solve the problem...)

[Tool] Android Screencast 0.4 (open-source)

Hello xda community !
I would like to share with you a new open-source project i just started. It's goal is to provide the ability to control your android device witch is connected through USB using mouse and keyboard in the same way it can be done on an emulator.
It's quite usable already but quite slow...
To try it, just go there and launch the JNLP file
Requirement :
Java Runtime >= 5
android sdk installed
your device is connected, in debug mode and detected by adb (type "adb devices" to check)
New in 0.4
Fix spacebar problem
Possible fix for droid display problem (keyboard still not working)
More keycodes mapped and shift key fixed
New In 0.3
Improved explorer
Launch URL from your computer
Key events fix
Hardware keys as buttons
New In 0.2
Basic file explorer (double clic on a file)
Video capture
First attempt to fix permission denied (non root device)
Device selection
Feel free to report issues using the issue tracker @googlecode :
http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/
is this via only pc / linux?
i have a mac lol
but looks goood
it does work on mac/pc/linux great job!

its a very great start! thanks again for this and yeah i do love my desktop =P
bumpp!!! this is dopeeee
This sounds like a must have application
Can't get it to work on my mac. Just get "Unable to launch application." Any
trick to this?
Works pretty well. Typing is in all caps.
My goodness!
It is choppy, but its such an elegant execution of the idea, love it.
Do you think there's much that can be done in future releases for the choppiness?
Well done!
Edit for MattStang: For the 'Unable to Launch application message', try running something like 'adb shell' first to make sure that the adb service on your computer is running
matt_stang : which Java version is installed on your computer ? Maybe you need to update to Java 6.
I'll look at the chopiness issue but this may be quite difficult.
It's not working on 10.5.6 for me. I would go to system update to see if there's an update for Java, but I'm on a hackintosh

You obviously don't have java 6 installed.I've lowered the requirement from java 6 to java 5 since 6 is not really needed, can you try again using this link ?
How do you connect your device via adb?
I am guessing that not connecting it myself is causing my error, however, If I use "DroidExplorer" (another app I am checking out), I guess it does it for me?
If I just launch screencast:
-getting device list
-unable to launch
If I launch DroidExplorer then screencast I get:
-starting input injector
-unable to launch'
If I launch DroidExplorer, connect with it, then screencast I get:
My G1!!
-Thought I would share in case you want to peek at DroidExplorer and see how it auto connects.
OK, this is seriously cool! I normally hook my G1 up to its USB cable and stick it under my keyboard drawer at work, pulling it out when I ... ahem ... "need" it. Now it can stay under there and I can run it from my desktop. Speed is a bit of an issue but I'm sure that'll get worked out. And, sure, there are bugs but those'll get worked out, too. Heck, I'm donating right now just because of how far you've gotten!
what happened to megan fox johnny? haha
This is a huge development ... Well done Can't wait for the keymap to be finished. The choppiness isn't an issue for me, it still feels more responsive than MyMobiler does on WiMo, and for sms it's extremely useful... Well done Keep it coming
Works Great with my HTC Hero! Its a little slow but a great start! Keep it up...

Yellow Text - Tells you which version you are currently running, or which you've selected.
Refresh - Refreshes the Text. If it says 'V2 selected', for example, pressing this will change it back to show which version you are currently running.
Restart Media - Button to restart the mediaserver manually. Not really needed, but might come in useful.
Reboot - Reboots phone
Exit - Exits the application
Make and Restore Backup - Does what it says on the tin
Push - Go to...
...Push Menu!
Yes - Pushes selected version WITH the Headset Boost
No - Pushes selected version WITHOUT the Headset Boost
Cancel - Returns to the main screen.
App is available on the android market, is currently at version 2.2, and costs £1.50.
I am also planning to create a 'lite' version which will have limited functionality, if i have the time!
Check my signature for a link to the cyrket page!
great cant wait whats the eta i love your app
Should be done within the next few days, tomorrow if i get my act together
Had a day off from uni today so i got all the coding, GUI and everything else pretty much done. There's a few bugs to iron out, like the reboot button not responding correctly and there's a problem with pushing the files when the headsets plugged in thats a bit irritating and i can't seem to fix, but other than that everything's fully completed
cool dont rush it man you do an awesome job
Thanks to your app my phone is louder than my friends T-Mo HTC Touch Pro2's speaker mode, awesome!
V2.2 is completely finished!!
Currently testing for any major bugs that may be present, so if you wish to test (and ultimately receive a free copy ) please contact me.
Please note, not everyone will be chosen to test the app as i've had a lot of requests.
Cool.
Is an EQ app still on the horizon ? You said you were going on Vacay when I asked. Didnt follow up much so not sure if it was bypassed.
Sort of/maybe. it depends if we can get the new labeled audiopara working properly
And it's on the market now people, go download
love the new version, it seems like the headset booster even works over bluetooth. I did find one bug that most people probably wont even notice because i wouldnt have if i didnt have my keyboard open when I opened the app. If you slide open the screen the welcome message will pop up again and also a message saying "all back ups have been made successfully and then another message saying "app refreshed". It will keep happening every time you open and close the screen. Not a major bug but figured I would let you know. Keep up the great work!

[11Aug] BETA 2 | [SUPERSPEED|SWYPE|MANILA|23569] LBFAR ROM X SERIES! NOW ON COM5!

Hello lads,
long time since last update in my LBFAR ROM, which was probably the fastest one out here containing Manila. Since then, I have been few months on the ROM, then started playing with Sense 2.5. But still, I wasn't satisfied. So I have made compromise - TF3D from mine ROM but new, COM5 build.
This ROM includes basic software as comm manager, Internet Explorer, Office Mobile, Adobe Reader etc. But all other advanced software is deleted!
Now let's present it's graphical part:
Images are no longer valid, they will be updated during today/tomorrow, when I get a chance to make them!

This BETA version runs on 23569 build. You have plenty of RAM (~114MB) and ROM (~333MB) after first boot. Also it is SUPERFAST so enjoy .
To hide Start & Done buttons on softkeybar, install cab in this post![/B]
ON FIRST BOOT, WHEN IT GETS "STUCK" on customization, click to the TOP RIGHT CORNER, where OK used to be on WM6.5!
Download:
MultiUpload (rapidshare, megaupload, hotfile, ...)
I DELETED STOCK WM6.5 Lockscreen! It eats A LOT OF MEMORY!
Changelog
BETA_2 -> LFAR X 1.1:
Deleted Notification Enhancement to make work input box when popping up about new wifi's
Fixed some issues, like Bluetooth A2DP, ...
Updates to few packages
Upgraded graphics (unified)
Deleted blue taskbar skin, it wasn't fitting, kept normal Windows stock one (you can install your own)
Some minor Manila internal changes in scripts, like when going through tabs, there is now black background below everything, largered icons, changed few LUAC scripts to make it run a bit faster
Flicking screen when changing windows now happens A LOT LESS! It was due old not-WM655 compatible notification enhancement probably.
BETA_FIXED -> BETA 2:
Inserted MyPhone (system -> myphone)
Inserted Marketplace (system -> marketplace)
Reverted to older rilphone, without "2 bar bug"
Enabled program tab in Manila in default
Enabled Start & Done keys on softkeybar on default

loved your idea man...am gonna give it a go(downloadin now)...Thanks man...jus a query have u any plans of releasin sense 2.1 on com 5?
Definitely not, Sense is slow on our devices (mostly 2.5, 2.1 is a bit better but it is still slow compared to this).
I forgot to mention..
ON FIRST BOOT, WHEN IT GETS "STUCK" on cusstomization, click to the TOP RIGHT CORNER, where OK used to be on WM6.5!
good work man looks great im gonna try it whenver im free, nice rom
ok lads, I'm sorry, I included wrong version of Comm Manager and I can't put there new one via cab, because it reaches out of permissions, I will have to cook new ROM.
I will update base to 2.08 or 2.10 (partially), hoping for some better drivers anyway .
I just notice that in comm manager are two phone settings one for GSM one for CDMA, but both are off, and you cannot turn them on.
ROM is fast, I just missing the close button on the top.
There won't be close button on top, it can be enabled on bottom of the screen (next to the right softkey), that's one of the main deals of WM6.5.5
// Wait till tomorrow, I'm preparing small StartMenu update with cool feature (that should have MS integrated too).
OK lads, finally fixed version, check 1st post for download.
And the "secret" feature... Let me publish it into WinMo software with details. But try in StartMenu folder (eg office or phone or settings) swype from left to right .

Haw to enable this close button.
And second question haw to close (not minim.) programs?
I'm totally new to 6.5.5
Close button enable in:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\BubbleTiles
find dword HardwareDoneKeyEnable and delete it
And close only via task manager. But don't worry, there is no need to close them, there is PLENTY of memory available. I had running both Opera 9.5 and 10, TomTom navigator, Slick, Facebook, file explorer, caculator and wmwifirouter at once without single issue
Thanks man for such an awsome rom camr back to com 5 after such a long time and am lovin it...seems like bottom bar has changed alot...
jus a few queries
how can i get 4 rows in start menu rather than a straight single default 1?
lovin the speed in it...lets hope its stable aswell(ive come from jackos 1.3 smartmove that thing never crashed on me in 1 month)
this 1 seems like a keeper so far...
jus in my 1st hr with your rom
My next question,
I don't know if this is related with your ROM or because I using RhodiumKbdControl_GSM.
After few minutes I can't acces menu start from hardware key. (Nothing happend when I pressing Windows key)
Thank you
Double post
@iris_aim
Search on forums for start menu cpr files, I first didn't like this too. But I gave it try and I loved it. So I made it myself again, but with my own numbers and mostly with Segoe font from WP7 and the gesture for going back .
@MisiuKP
Anything that messes with HW buttons is potencionally dangerous, I should have made simple app, that would ask on first boot, if you want to hide Start and OK buttons :X. I like it this way, since I have both Start and Back keys on front.
OK,
Thank you, I found that in registry, and now I have both ok/close and start menu on screen - I personally like this better.
Thank you for owsom ROM!!!

You know, no testers no development, it's all up to you guys...
...well it has become very silent in the non-touchscreen corner of devices. Wings was not especially popular anyway. Most active forum still is the Excalibur - not much different to the Vox where you had a great success of supplying various builds. They would for sure appreciate a multi-language (including Spanish) ROM - as I think that only WWE ROMs are available.
I try to keep the fire burning in the Typhoon, Hurricane and Tornado areas, but hardly any interest left, sadly...
Thanks, hope youre still gona give this a go, i've just got to dig up my old faithful wings and i'll flash youre beta.
The wings is still a great phone, best battery and signal i've ever had, the only reason i left it was to migrate to android but would use it again with win 6.5 on it.
Works Perfect

That sounds very promising, I'll start making a more customized ROM and a 6.5 ROM, but after the weekend....
Thats great, looking forward to the next release. Thanks
First WM 6.5 test online, no idea if it works, so please try. If it does work, please check every settings page...
Wow! that was fast, downloading now, will give it a good run through and let you know, looking forward to it. Thanks

1. I flashed the beta2 rom and it stuck at the "smart mobility" screen on boot.
2. I went into manual bootloader mode and attempted flashing beta2 again with no sucess, same problem as before.
3. Im now back to beta1 again
OK, I'll see what I can do without my backup DVD of my old kitchen files (probably a XIP problem...)!
but when i turn in my phone stucks in black screen (smart mobility) on beta 2 and after 30 min its's turning off please some help me
sorry for my bad english
Hi mloed007,
Beta 2 doesnt work, so go back to beta 1.
Start your phone in bootloader mode by powering on with the camera button pressed, then connect your usb cable and flash the beta 1 rom as normal.
I didn't have time yet for fixing this problem. But next week is wide open
Hi Frauhottelmann,
You've been the first to give us any real hope of having a nice rom so we are happy to wait and if we have sucess i'd be glad to send you a beer donation
I'll try to upload another beta tonight, let's hope this one works...
Test 3 is online...
have settings been disabled in beta3? I can't seem to go into settings
The question is, does beta 3 start up correctly?
