Operator Signal Strength Keeps Refreshing - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi,
I don't know if anyone has heard of this problem or Im just being paranoid, but I installed PocketMax's PhoneAlarm (v 2.13) and was testing some automatic profile switching yesterday, one of which was into flight mode. This worked, but when it came out of flight mode the operator signal strength started to refresh.
ie. GPRS..good signal...HPDSA good signal...HPDSA poor signal...then no signal. The no signal stays like this for some time before the cycle starts again.
Not sure if this could be the weather but it's been clear and cold and checking my sim out on another mobile shows a good steady signal.
The reason why Im pointing to Phone Alarm is that all was well up until this point, before playing with the automatic profile switching into flight mode.
If anyone has any ideas or a setting that can be stabilised in the registry to stop this then Im all ears.
Thanks for you anticipated help or solution.
Apologies if this has been covered already

Not sure if this is relevant or not but:
I noticed that when I upgraded to WM 6.1 my flight mode acted all kinds of strange. Even if I manually put it in flight mode I could sometimes not get it to come out of flight mode and turn the radio back on unless I soft reset the device.

Hi dalavar ,
Thanks for the response. It was fine before and hadn't noticed any problem with signal dropping before upgrading to 6.1, even when looking at flight mode on the comms manager. This suddenly happened after coming out of flight mode using phonealarm Wednesday mid-dayish and has been acting like this since.
I've tried resetting and even reflashing the rom to see if would set things back to normal and still no joy, the same thing happens. The latest thing I tried was a different sim in the phone and again the signal cycles and stays on no service more than another signal. It seems to indicate a phone problem, as I've tried the sim in another phone and the signal is ok.
Im not sure if it could be the weather as it colder than usual where I am and wounder if these phones are prone to not being able to hone in on a signal when ice crystals are in the air deflecting the signal, as a friend suggested, but I think that would affect all phones.
Any further idea's would be gratefully appreciated.

I've discovered, purely by accident, that when I disable the 3g (using duttys 10 button comms manager) the signal comes back and stays, I'm only getting GPRS not HSDPA, at present, which I suppose is something. Under the phone settings I also notices that it is set to GSM and not auto. Something probably I did when trying to find out why this problem occured.
Im trying to set it back to auto (this is what the 3g button does on dutty comms manager), under phone band settings, which was the default setting and this is when the signal problem reoccurs.
Wondering what this auto is looking at?
Where the settings are for it to look at so if it looking for something else I can change it back.
Anyone have any ideas?

Just an update.
This seems a common problem amongst some uk 3G networks, I found forums where Orange and T-Mobile customers had suffered the same problem. Months where 3G working fine then 'Cillit Bang' and the 3G's gone!
It could be the sim has become faulty (rare, but not unknown)
It could, in fact, be that the signal is bad in the recent cold snap here in the UK, which I hoping is the case and when the weather warms up I can test this theory and set 3G back to auto.

Update.
This morning it was still not wokring on auti, at around 11:30 I tried again to turn auto on and now the phone os working again with 3G enabled, but it's only coming up with GPRS.
Not sure if it was the weather as now we are at 9 degress rather zero or in the low minus, and it did appear to come back when the temp increased or could be the network provider has been playing with the transmitters.
Now just awaiting HSDPA to come back.

Still not working correctly. Again it drops signal unless I switch back to GSM. Getting this diagnosed.

3G connection keeps "stopping".

Hi, the search button has failed me. (Two posts in 2 years isnt too bad is it?)
My issues is.... accessing the internet over 3g works fine (and HPSDA) Internet, push mail everything... however, If I drop out of coverage at any time my internet connection vanishes as to be expected. However once connection is re-established still the Internet fails to work. It shows connected to 3G or HPSDA but all websites time out and Activesync reports waiting for network.
The fix is to go Start>Settings>Connections>Connections>Manage my existing connections.
Then I simply "Next" thru all the settings until I get to the end. Press Finish. The data connection drops and the re-establishes and Im working again!?!! Very Annoying!
Im running. Duttys 6.1 Rom (April) and a few bits a pieces (It happens with nothing installed also and with another ROM I tried in desperation!) T-Mobile UK
Does this sound like a Radio issue to you guys? Should I try another Radio or Ditch Dutys Rom? (Which I love)
Any help gratefully accepted.
If Downgraded to WM6 (T-Mobile stock ROM) and Im still having this issue. Very frustrated.
I've found a few posts from the US who seem to have the same sort of issue. 3g does not recover after dropping out of service.
http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/...thread.id=88007&view=by_date_ascending&page=1
Not sure what to do now...
I've had the same sort of thing, I just disconnect (Long press on the red End call key or click on the 3G icon in the top bar and hit disconnect), and let it reconnect.
I have exactly the same issue with mine as well and its only started recently. I too have found the only way to fix it is to go through and 're setup' the connection. Disconnecting and reconnecting, rebooting all seem to do nothing...

Which symbol is most of the time in the top of your screen G/E/3G/H...?! Check this one out also --> my 3G issue
I usually have a H (1 or 2 bars), when walking around my office this can drop to a 3G connection at times.
If I head to the basement, I drop to the Areial symbol or completely disconnect.... When the H or 3G connection starts again my Data connection fails as described above.
(However, I am able to make normal outgoing voice calls, not tried incoming yet)
Ok, I think I have a work around that seems to be working for me.
I set my BAND to GSM only as a test.... and it worked for the whole day, when I dropped into a NO SERVICE area the data connection dropped. When it recovered my data connection was back and working.
Obviously GSM is too slow, so I've now set my BAND settings to;
Network Type - WCDMA
UMTS Band - UMTS(2100+800)
And also diasabled HSDPA.
Currently everything seems ok... Now my connection does not drop from HSDPA>3G>G and back up again it seems to work fine?? Seems the issue may be with switching between the GSM standards??
I realise I wont get coverage in GSM only area's, but consistant data (Push Email) is just as important to me.
I've the same problem, but changing settings to gsm only is no solution. In this case I have to restart my Kaiser to get a new working connection.
I also have many Problems since updating to wm 6.1. Can I downgrade to the original german 6.0 or is there a really stable german 6.1 out there?
I've been getting the same problem as well for the past month or so.
Have been 'fixing' the problem by either putting the phone into airplane mode and back again, or rebooting the phone.
It's getting quite annoying though
Stopping the phone dropping to GSM seems to work for me. Leaving me with HDSPA and 3G.
I'm lucky to be in a good 3G coverage area I guess.
Im not sure who we should log this issue with? Carrier or HTC?
Are we all on T-Mobile having this issue?
i'm on o2 germany and a one day test with t-mobile didn#t show this error
with o2 i have this problem about three times a day
any new ideas since july ?
Sometimes i want to throw my phone away.
I'm still having the problem as well. Has anybody figured out a solution?

AT&T network loss issue

All;
Have sort of a strange problem; hoping someone can help me sort it out.
Every once and a while (I can't find a set time or schedule or trick to make this work), my 3g / Edge connection dies on me. I still have phone service; still receive texts; just have no access to the internet.
Checking running processes doesn't seem to help, I never see anything taking control. Only way I seem to be able to fix it is a soft reset.
May or may not be related; but I'm also having an issue where if I use the "mute" function in my call status screen, I have to soft reset to use my phone (unless the other party disconnects the call, which releases me...). Really frustrating.
Ideas? Suggestions? Running custom kitchen from ppc; not afraid to re-flash if that'd help!
I have found that a certain area (most likely served by one or two towers) that I am in every day causes similar issues. I still have a 3G (HSDPA) connection, but cannot transfer any data. My phone will not fall back to Edge to maintain the data connection, possibly because it still thinks it has a data connection (based on icon status).
I have tried several radios, and the situation is the same. I only have this problem in one specific geographic area, which is why I think it is network related, and not my device.
A quick work around that I have been using is to simply disable 3G (using the comm manager) before I enter the problem area, and re-enable it when I leave the area. The boundaries of the area are very constant. Sometimes, I need to turn the entire radio off (using the comm manager) and back on to fully regain 3G (HSDPA) speeds.
You might want to give the comm manager a try - it is usually much quicker than soft resetting.
You don't happen to live (or travel through) Plymouth, MI, do you?

Does anyone know the significance of greyed out network icons?

I upgraded to R3A last week and so far everything's gone smoothly.
The only thing that's bugging me is that the network icon (H) spends most of its time greyed out (see screenshot). I only ever saw it in that state briefly in previous firmware.
It doesn't seem to affect connection or call quality. It's not indicative of a bad signal, as it'll still go back to 2.5G when 3G is lacking. The resulting G will usually be grey as well.
Presumably it means something's less than optimal, but I can't find any info about it anywhere.
Clues anybody?
Are you sure you are able to connect to a data connection, for web browsing etc? Because the last time this happened to me, i was not able to connect, and had to do a hard reset to get it fixed.

Data connection works fine. There appears to be no issue with functionality of anything.
The set of "custom" status icons (colored ones) doesn't contain icon for HSDPA (or something like this, dataconnection available in you location) so it is shown as standard icon (only black&white). I bet if you have only EDGE or GPRS available, there will be the same icon as the others are.
it should mean that data connection is unavailable at the moment (because it can get back in a later time) or something is wrong with your data connection (that is why we have sometimes to reset the phone to make it work back).
Guys,
I have a Xperia for almost one month, and last night it suddenly stopped to be connected with the network. I tried to connect manually, and it worked, but the calls still couldn't be done! One hour later, the same situation started again and my phone can not connect to the network.
I don't know what to do anymore, I have already hard reset the phone, and nothing happened!!
Help me!

I get exactly the same thing, running Jacks latest lite-ROM, based on the R3A. Connection icons are greyed out, but I still have an excellent data connection.
What's more is that after a fairly long call, the phone usually looks like it's in flight mode. However, if I try calling myself from my second phone it works just fine, and I can recieve sms-es. But, I cannot send texts or call out, since the phone thinks it's cell-module is turned off. This always corrects itself after a soft reset, and usually passes by itself after about ten minutes. But the connection icons stay greyed out.
If I try to turn the phone-module back on, nothing happens.
Weird, innit?

LG Optimus 2X P990 - Service Problem

Hello,
Since a couple of weeks I've been having some issues with my beloved phone: the LG Optimus 2X Speed (P990) running the latest and greatest Cyanogenmod 7. And I was hoping that you could help me with that.
The Problem
My phone, and my previous phones have always had great service reception. I would never find my phone with two bars or less, unless it was brain-dead out of juice. I've always had the same provider (T-Mobile NL) and I've never experienced any problems with them.
However, in the last couple of weeks my phone can't find my network more often and often. I'd check my phone to see why I haven't gotten text-ed in the last minute or so, and it would be offline. Zero bars and status "No Service". At the beginning, I could put Airplane mode on, and then off again and it would reconnect. But since a couple of days that won't work either. I can put the telephone into airplane modus, but it gets stuck in it.
The button remains gray saying "Disabling Connections". If you go back, and into the Connection settings again the button can be pressed but indefinitely keeps the phone in airplane mode. The only way to enable connections again is to completely restart the phone. And as of lately I find myself having to reboot the device about 1-4 times a day.
Could you help me with this?

Obviously CM7 went a little crazy! I don`t think it`s hardvare problem and the most safe and secure thing u can do is to go back to stock rom and root and reflash CM7 again!!! Android is weird system and many weird things happen to many people. If u have few hours to spare u should begin there and see what happens. If that doesn`t solve your problem than u can start thinking about hardware failure (maybe SIM card, maybe phone antena). But i`m allmost positive it`s software isue. :good:
Disable the automatic date and time (network-provided one). See if that helps.
That was preventing my P990 from getting network at all after a cold boot.
Hi,
I have exactly the same problem. Disabling network-provided time helped (i.e. the phone connects to the network and data connection is up), but I was wondering if this is a bug and if there's a thread or a resource discussing this issue? Btw, the phone has been having some minor connectivity issues in CM 7.1 as well, but otherwise CM7 is useable.
Phone: LG-P990 (Optimus 2X), "Made in Korea" under the battery, does that mean for sure it's the SU660 flavour?
Carrier: Fido (Rogers Wireless), Canada
ROM: CM 10.1-20130722-UNOFFICIAL-p990 (tonyp build version 5) (Wiped and flashed on 2013.08.27)
Kernel: 2.6.39.4-kowalski-exp
Basebands tried: (none get me data connectivity)
LGP990hNAT-00-V25h-FID-CA-FEB-22-2012+0 (Original)
725 V10d (shows as Unknown in About Phone)
450 V20m SU660 (EDGE only)
OK, Correction...
Only the Wi-Fi connection was up. The cellular connection indicator was blue, which has led me to believe that cellular data connection was up as well. When Wi-Fi is disabled, the cellular connection indicator goes white and there's no data connectivity.
Furthermore, even though basic cellular connectivity was available for approx. 8 hours during the night, as soon as I left home and started moving it started dropping out. For example, I was only connected ~30% of the time for the past hour (and the reception along my usual route is normally great).
Toggling network-provided time doesn't seem to have an effect now, but the old tricks (toggling cellular connection, going into Airplane Mode, rebooting phone) seem to restore cellular connection for a brief period.
I also noticed that often when I would launch a data-using application (Internet browser, gmail app) cellular connectivity would be lost in a minute or so (saying No Service).
I've tried looking into "logcat -b radio" for ideas, but I don't quite understand what's happening here (willing to learn though).
Help...
I have installed CM7.2 (official CM) and CM10.1 (tonyp 5, oldbl) with dual boot and can now switch between the two ROMs. I have good cellular and data connectivity in CM7.2, but no data connectivity even after a fresh install of CM10.1.
I assume the baseband has nothing to do with this since both ROMs are using the same.
So, armed with a dual boot device, the n00b is ready to do troubleshooting! It only needs guidance now... Help?

[Q] Why am seeing network signal strength & Cellular Radios on in Airplane Mode?

So I am using a Nexus 6 on the Latest Tmo build (28E?) of Stock Rom and Stock Kernel Rooted, Encrypted.
Since the update that enabled wifi-calling for the N6 I have taken to setting my phone to airplane mode and turning on Wifi only to save battery since the signal at my house bounces back and forth from LTE to 3G and that murders my battery. Most of the time the signal strength graph shows blank and battery app correctly shows the cellular radios as having no on time. However, after being idle for a while (it would seem) the graph begins to show the signal strength as Red (no signal) and the cellular standby shows up in battery usage with the radios as being on (with no signal) and "active for a few seconds". Toggling airplane mode on and off usually restores them to showing up as off. Other times I never notice and it stays on for a few hours and goes back off on it's own. My main concern is that it seems to be activating the radio on it's own, my minor concern would be that my battery monitor app shows that it's using the battery. What could be causing this? I don't think it's a reporting glitch, because it shows up in both the system battery panel and a 3rd party one. If anyone has any thoughts or could point me towards a tool that could help me figure out what's turning on the radio when it's supposed to be off, please let me know. I've included photos from today showing what I'm talking about, the phone has been in airplane mode the whole time in these photos.
Thanks so much!
Kev
I think your issue is one of the reason why I cannot get Wifi Calling working at all. No matter what I do, my phone is holding onto a cellular network. Still trying to figure this out.

The best I can tell, "Android OS" is the only thing that shows any mobile packets sent or received so it's got to be a system thing.
If you have the myT-mobile app installed try uninstalling it I found that app totally screwed with my Nexus 6, turning WiFi on when I had no desire to use it.

Unfortunately that's not the fix. I don't have that app installed. Tmo is sending me a new SIM as I am also randomly having Wifi calling drop in and out even while my wifi is connected.
Does anyone know any app that would let me see specifically what app is engaging the mobile radio?
