Data Connection always open? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

I've only had my Touch Diamond for a few days and its freakin awesome so far.
Im trying to understand something though. Is the data connection always open? it seems like it is, because when you click on the little H next to your signal bars, it tells yo how long its been open for.
Im sure this is a nasty drain on battery life isnt it? i dont need it open all the time. it would be great if it disconnected itself when it wasnt being used.
can i do this somehow? other than manually of course which is a major pain.

You can always tweak your settings manually or using Advanced Config to have the data disconnect after X-minutes.

Hi aphexacid!
Try those 2 little apps, it's working for me quite well...It will manage your data connections and you can configure then as well!
Good luck with your shiny diamond

Disabling data connection from service provider TROUBLES

Hey guys I am sorry if this has been covered before but I can't find it. I have an unlocked euro diamond but I'm using rogers as my service provider. I have wifi at home but when im away from home I don't want the diamond to connect to rogers data connection at all but from time to time it says its on. How do I make it so that I can use the data connection when I want to manually but at the same time automatically not connect to data from rogers?
Do a search for 'no data' it will allow you to control your data connections
do a search on this forum? Nothing really comes up with what I need.
I have a euro diamond on Rogers now aswell
I find this way works to disable data connection
All Setter --> Connections ---> Connections
once you in there see if you have anything rogers related, if yes just delete that set up (you prob let the phone set it up for you when you first start up your phone in Toronto)
as long as you don't set up a connection in that tab. It will never connect to any E and G
is this something I have to plug into like active sync to see or is it in the phone. I cant find anything called allsetter, thanks so much for helping though

it's on the phone.. slider the botton menu to Settings
THen in there bottom left there is a tab that says All Settings. Hit that then once you there.. you will see Personal, System, Connections on the bottom. Tap the Connection Tap, once you there.. you should see an icon that says Connections. Hit that also.
After that it will show all your current set up data transfer network. If you see one there. Delete it then it should be ok.
If you got more problems just continue posting here, I need to head out for a bball game will come back afterwards to help if you still need
Oh actually I see it and i deleted the rogers internet in manage settings its working nice thanks! But when im out of wifi range this means i cant update at all liek weather or anything. So what I just did disabled the E and G connection but my phone radio connection to rogers still works and everything related to data will work with wifi? Thank you so much big bro!

yes correct. now you can only update if you are in a WiFi region. If you are not then you just can't update data but your phone will still work cause that is another separate setting.
Next time if you don't want data connection, remember NOT to allow the phone auto setup internet connection setting (usually after it finishes configuring the phone setting).
Glad i can help!
The thing is that yes you are right, but when my phone comes out of stand by theres a G and then it goes into wifi after 2 seconds. Do you know why? Is it using data?
displaying G or E or H is just letting you know what kind of signal the phone can pick up.. as long as the reception bars icon does not have a G or E or H or 3G beside and has an antenna sort of thing beside the bars then you are ok.
I'm assuming it turns to WiFi right away because you have WiFi on right? Turn WiFi off and tell me if the same thing happens
yes and it makes sense thanks haha im just so new to this smartphone stuff. I want to make it run faster and better with rom updates and stuff but theres so much content i don't know where to begin. I want to do it myself but I don't want to mes it up. I just gotta learn from all of you. Thanks a lot bigbro!

oh there is just one more problem. After I click on all people under people, it will open all my contacts/people and their numbers but after i change a view option, i can't go into all people anymore from touch flo, any ideas?

what do you mean by changing view option?
i was just toggling with the view options under menu when your in contacts. It wont let me back in all people or contacts unless I restart phone. All these people were moved over from rogers sim.
not sure about this. But I'm assuming it's a ROM issue.
Are you still using stock ROM? cause when i got this phone the stock ROM was VERY slow and buggy.
yes I am lol i would like to change it but im so newb. When you have time could you help me through it?
Im going to sleep and look at the tutorial/guides tmrw and ill msg u if i need help =p. GN thanks a million

well all the ROM thread under the ROM Development section has all the instruction to how to flash a new ROM. Just REMEMBER to flash a HARD-SPL before you do any ROM updates or else it will brick your phone (dead phone)
My suggestion for ROM would be the dutty one. Been using it for the last 2 months and his ROM are clearly one of the best available out there.
The link for newest dutty ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411707
I'm using his V3.6 FINAL (you can find it on dutty's website) not the V4 on his thread, but the instruction of flashing a new ROM is exactly the same, it has step by step instructions there for you to follow or you can go here for the instructions: http://lievenvw.wordpress.com/2008/09/18/howto-flash-your-htc-diamond-or-htc-touch-pro-with-a-custom-rom/
Hope this helps
This is probably what you need: MoDaCo NoData

Palringo is here!!!!

I have personally waiting on this app on the Android platform since I got my G1. Don't sleep people..........http://www.palringo.com/en/gb/download IMO I will say its a Meebo Killer Keep in mind it's in beta so more features to come. (Push to Talk) Oh and check out the forum to add feature requests etc....
the program is still young it lacks some features but unlike meebo it seems you need data plan or wifi to get it working and not 3G.
It's so bad the program look promising.
?? you need data plan and not 3g??
what do you mean by that? 3g is just the connection speed?
it works flawlessly with a regular data connection here.
and it looks and feels as nice as the win mo version, if not more so.
How does this one handle battery life?
i have been using this app for a long time and like it a lot the log out should be fixed soon
I have this on my laptop, awesome messenger!!! I had this on my wing & my tilt, awesomer!!! I got it on my ipod touch, still awesome!!! Now its on my g1... not so awesome!!! It signs me out way too often. It seems everytime I close the app, it signs me out. I never had this issue with the program on any other platform before. But I can't wait for them to fix that cuz this is easily the best all in one messenger I have used
Does this thing save your conversations like Meebo does?
wow, looks really good .... no problems so far, connected to facebook chat, msn and icq!
please give feed back and feature requests to the forum:http://www.palringo.com/en/gb/forum/support/android/
Oh sorry i mean it works with data connection et no wap
like the regular IM
Sooooo, how is it effecting everyones battery? I'm still on the fence on whether to use this over the stock IMs.

So far battery isn't an issue cuz it doesn't stay connected long enough to suck any juice. But I can say on my wing, tilt & ipod, it never drained my battery
I'm waiting for an update.....the PTT feature and the LBS are worth the wait....
drains battery and disconnects, but chat rooms are fun. would be perfect if it didn't drain battery (dun think they can do anything about that), and if they fixed the disconnects....

Disabling Data connections

I'm looking for a way to disable expensive datalinks such as 3G and edge that is a little more reliable than the 'off'-switch in the touchflo settings. It sort of bugs me that the phone connects to the internet whenever it feels like it. At home it's not necessary because I have wifi, and when I'm abroad I definitely don't want it to come anywhere close to connecting or in any way costing me a lot of money
Windows mobile is completely new to me, this is my first smartphone. I bet there's tons of useful applications lying around that do exactly what I want, but since I'm new to this it's all a bit overwhelming. Anyone who can point me in the right direction?
Install freeware NoData to disable data connection. Google for it.
Thanks a bunch, exactly what I needed

I installed it, and it is working well: no internet, nor mail checking, nor update of weather...Nice, without this it was virtualy impossible to prevent the TD2 to connect one way or another ;-)
Thanks for the pointer!
using the same app, very hapy with it! great one!

New Mundu IM (AIM/GTalk/MSN/Yahoo/ICQ/Jabber)

Has anyone seen this? I just installed the 15 day trial and it seems pretty stable.
http://mundu.com/products/mundu-im/screenshots
Also the only way I found the apk was through the site. I havent found it on the Market yet...
checking this out now. i like it so far. HiAIM is nice, but i dont like chat bubbles plus this will let me on all of the rest of the services too, it's like trillian for android.
I can't seem to connect to it, my AIM just sits at "Authenticating..." for ever
You know it was working perfectly for me at first. Now its doing the same thing you describe.
Ugh. Why cant we find ONE im app that stays connected?

Actually, the latest update has been working amazingly well.
Bu I'm gonna check this one out as well.
Actually, forget that.
$11,- for a chat app?
hahahahahahahaha.
I prefer Palringo myself. Does all those except ICQ and Jabber I beleive.

Meebo build 15 keeps you on now and auto-reconnects. It will also notify you if it is unable to reconnect due to no data (edge/3g/wifi).
I'll give this a run.
After running Mundu for the trial period, I decided not to buy it. It disconnects way too often and when it does, it will stick at "Authenticating..." until I force close the app and restart it. It's too bad, I really love the interface and has all that I am looking for but I need AIM to stay connected.
I e-mailed support and of course they blame my connection. But here I am using HiAIM and it doesn't disconnect, EVER. I guess I'll have to live with the lack of great interface/options in HiAIM.
I see someone never mentioned ebuddy or buddymob both are great IM applications and buddymob have yet to log me out unless i make a phone call or incoming call, which leave me wondering if it does that to every IM application out there?

If you're on Edge, you lose data connecton during phone calls. If you're connected via 3g or wifi, your IM connection wouldn't drop. I use both Hello IM! and Meebo (not at the same time) and both of them rarely log me off because I'm either on wifi or 3g connection.

Are you sure you aren't losing connection and it is reconnecting? People told me Palringo wouldnt disconnect for them, but testing it I found it disconnected quite frequently and was just fast to reconnect. Definitely a turn off for your friends that have you on a buddy list

Yes infact it really does annoys and i noticed my friend logged in and out because of it. I noticed it reconnected because of the notification bar, does HI IM have one?

Have one what? HiAIM does not disconnect me at all (unless I am on a call, not it's fault though). I tested this by keeping an IM open with my cell phone's AIM screen name and no notices of sign off/on. I did this same thing with Palringo and would see it reconnect every few minutes.
It sucks because I like the Mundu interface, but I can't find anything as stable as HiAIM. Maybe I'll dust off my programming knowledge and try to create something on my own that will have a customizable interface as well as a stable connection

Well the customization doesnt sound half bad so people can find their own colours, but im going to test out the connection thru every messenger connection.

I use meebo and it has always been stable, the autostart and UI works well. Plus its free.

Need a way to turn all data connection off?

My phone is pissing me off for some mysterious reason the internet connection keeps turning on . i want to know if there is some setting in the phone where i can make it so that it never dials a internet connection ever ever ever. but i still want wifi to work. help me out if you knw what i am going thru. prbly gonna get a mad bill this month
Did you search for this? IT's like the first app ever made for this phone.
You want to look at Kaiser Tweak:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349009
Another option could be GB Soft Tweak:
http://gb-soft.cz/xdaii/product_gprs...61_diamond.htm
Never had a problem with Kaiser connecting without me wanting it to !
I use GB Soft Tweak as I like the option of instant time-out disconnect (something those useless Tw*ts at WM HQ should of thought of by now !)
Check your email account settings & any other app that uses connection.
