Apps I cant live without on my Kaiser - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

I'm gong to share my favorite applications/games for the Kaiser. Some tips may be thrown in as well!
Applications:
Memory Map weather radar
Just what it says, fast loading animated weather radar. With zoom support and location settings.
BTSpammer
This little program will send out vcards, images, or text messages to any device in range. It is VERY useful for walking around the mall to send bogus messages such as: Welcome to our store! Please note that while in our store it is policy to record phone calls, sms messages, and contact lists while you are on our property to help deter theft. If you do not agree with this policy please see a store manager or leave at once. Thank you for your compliance, store management.
WiFiFofum
Best damn ppc wardriving tool out there! Honestly, the only way my laptop could beat this app is to have a external GPS unit. I keep it on while I'm in the car to find exciting locations around the city. I recommend exporting to memory card in a folder than merging files as you go along. upload the results to a wardriving map so others can benefit on your findings.
Tilt keyboard fix
Does what it says. Fixes hardware keyboard assignments for custom roms. No more will I have to guess where ! is at
Resco Keyboard
I love this keyboard! I can use it with my fingers if need be. My only gripe is that the . @ and other common punctuation marks are in the number page. It drives me crazy to switch between numbers and letters so I installed a new skin in the included skin downloader.
Resco File Explorer
This comes in major use on a day to day basis for me. It can browse network shares, do FTP, and modify my registry. Not only does it have a touch friendly interface option, I find it much more useful than touch commander for most tasks. Built in search is fast and you can populate the window with results for mass selecting and modifying.
Sprite Backup
I use this backup program (from the makers of norton ghost) between ROM upgrades. It is so good that if you don't configure your restore properly you run the risk of reverting changes made in that new rom release to the one you upgraded from. Nothing outside ROM is safe from this monster, I have had no issues with multiple backups and restores
Safemode
There is a program for ppc called safemode. What is does it lets you go into a limited shell (accessible from splash screen) to remove applications, browse folders, modify the registry, and some more. Why run the risk of having to hard reset when you can just remove that today plugin that's making it fail I hate having to reinstall everything over again, now you don't have to.
Magi Call 2
I use this program a lot more than I will ever know since it runs in the background with a nice GUI for configuring it. Don't want someone calling you? Block em! Want to create custom rules for sms and phone numbers? MagiCall it! I found out about this little program when a ex girlfriend would not leave me alone. Now I have all sorts of telemarketers and spam blocked. Owning a Kaiser for any reason would be the addition of this program! Every phone should have it! (might want to try callfirewall. free and it is also a nice program fro here at XDA!).
Opera Mini
Sure Opera mobile and skyfire is great for media rich web surfing but I hate waiting for pages to load. If I need flash, I'll start up my Nokia N810 or netbook. Very very unbelievably fast while still retaining my loved feature of double click zooming. Comes with a option to sync with your desktop version of Opera. Have not tried that out yet.
nueGPSSecurity
I don't know how many times I have lost my phone in my house and this free program has saved me! I just send a sms to my phone via e-mail and the alarm will go off giving me a beacon to save the Kaiser. It's also good for remote tracking if your phone gets stolen and other features but I have not tried these yet since my phone has not been stolen.
S2U2 (slide to unlock 2)
I don't use the unlock function very much like other people do (you know, to check the time, I wear a solar powered atomic watch), instead I love the slide to answer function. I no longer fear answering my phone my accident because it is in my holster or pocket. Something that looks cool and is functional.
Newsflash RSS reader
Siimply the best RSS and podcast reader on the planet for my uses. Sure, the included RSS reader is fine and all but I listen to a lot of RSS based podcasts. This will also work for video podcasts. How it works is it saves the mp3s and mp4s (or any other supported format) to a folder you setup in the settings and let it rip! I run it in the background at startup and use manila's media page to listen/watch my feeds. This functionality should of been made in the phone.
To manage all of these applications I simply turn on "view hidden files and folders" and go to my device on my PC, then in the "windows/start menu/programs" folder I categorize all my apps into folders. This way, when I go into programs, i don't have to search forever to find a program. TIP! Make a favorite in windows explorer of the start menu folder. Having to go into windows then your start menu folder takes forever for the file list in /windows to load. You will have one click access to where you want to go.
I may of missed some but check out my application install list!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470519
It does not go slow with so many apps as others believe. After all, what is installed doesn't slow anything down, it's what's running that does.

Thanks, I will take a look at your list and try a few what's new for me.

I guess you mean "Navizon" not WiFiFoFum or not?

I agree with a couple of those.
I've found that I'm increasingly dependant on Kinoma for news and music. If you haven't tried it out, look it up on Google. They have a free version which allows you to listen to shoutcast, youtube videos, news broadcasts and such, The $30 version allows you to listen to 1,000s of live broadcast radio stations and watch live tv streams and more. Most stations on shoutcast stream at 96-128kbps and they connect and stream very well over 3G / HSDPA
Also, WMWiFiRouter is essential for me so I can share my connection with my laptop, other PDAs, and other people that are around me.
I use Barcorama when I'm shopping sometimes to look up the best prices, pretty quick usually.
GRemote lets me control my laptop when I hook it up to my big screen in my bedroom without having to have a gigantic wireless keyboard.
Google maps and Live Search are also essential, each having their distinct advantages (Street View and routes in Gmaps and speech recognition and gas prices in Live Search) Both use GPS very quickly.
QuickGPS updater. Simple. Get it.
MyMobiler... omg.. that app is such a lifesaver. I have a lot of devices and the last thing I need to do is have my phone in the middle of my desktop. I can plug it into the USB port and put it behind my laptop and forget about the actual device. Paired with my BT headset, I can do everything without losing the multitasking I so love.
RSS Hub is a great one too. My wife loves it too because I'm spending as much time on blogs at home anymore.
SKYFIRE and OPERA 9.5 Best mobile browsers out there. I have used Opera Mini, but I found it to be a bit quirky and I don't really have an issue with speed since my network in this area is typically about 1MB down and 500k up.
TOMTOM7 ... 'nuff said. Best nav out there. Now with speed notifications and HOV lanes
Remote Desktop. Great tool for when I'm not at my PC to do simple tasks, also good for managing my TED install so I can make sure I get all my tv shows
Ah, and Fring. Which leads me to ask, is there a plugin for fring, or an app for winmo that does facebook chat?

great apps
i already had some of them. I tried resco keyboard and im practically hooked now.
^^^Gremote is pretty amazing too!

imho newest spb keyboard (4.1.0) is waaaaaaaaaay better than resco's.
don't want to hijack thread, but I also luv: coreplayer, s2v, nebopad and total commander
most of them are quite well known and nebopad is the BEST notepad app on ppc.
thank You for Your attention. goodbye..

Could someone explain to me what it is that WiFiFoFum does (other than have a great name)? When I turn on Wifi, my phone automatically scans for Wifi networks as it is, so what is the difference with WiFiFoFum?

WiFiFoFum(agreed, a great name) always you to scan all Wireless Access Points broadcasted, including certain vitals as to their SSID's, WEP enabled or not, and other techie goodies. Plus, you can enable GPS and create an actual map of WiFi Hotspots for you and your friends. It also has a radar feature that shows WAPs in reference to you (I think it's just more for fun than practicality).
Also, I have never been able to get Barcorama to work on my phone. I have it installed with the netcf, but when i load the program and press the camera button, the whole thing craps out. even when i take a picture seperately and try to open it with barcorama it craps out. very frustrating cause it looks like it would be fun.

Sounds interesting - I'll give it a try. Thanks

For Facebook chat you might want to look over at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455263 Not tested myself, but know of it!
A useful post - seen some apps I didn't know about so will take a look. Will add my list another time when I'm not half asleep!

Go to the settings for barcorama and check Live Scanning and Use Autofocus. Eliminates opening the camera and the whole clicking the shutter - i.e. inducing shaking. Just hold it over the barcode and it automatically detects it. Sweet program.

Hi,
No need to upload them again, there are many times on the the web or on this board, just need to search a little!
Check this out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2276141

Does anyone have a working version of QuickGPS I can grab please? I tried the one in the Polaris thread but that wont install on my Kaiser...
Thanks

SPB Mobile Shell - Still the best and easiest to navigate today replacement
SPB Phone Suite - The ability to have the phone switch on and off automatically at set times is a godsend. I only have to charge every 5 days or so!

Check to see what you have your image size set to. It doesn't work in 3MP mode. I just installed it due to this thread and it's pretty awesome.
Thanks guys!
I love TinyTwitter, Coreplayer, Pocket Alarm MP3, TomTom 7, Google Maps, Windows Live Search, VITO Zoomboard, Skyfire, 1Calc, Palringo, Power SMS, Resco File Explorer, Resco Photo Viewer Pro, My Moblier, Resco Radio, Pandora, Mobipocket, Advanced Config, ThrottleLock, Pocket RAR, Pocket Goo (really fun app), Slydial (call voice mail directly), Microsoft Tag (I hope this catches on), VsPainter, Weather Watcher, Web Camera Plus.

Your top 5 programs?

Okay, just wanted to make a post where everyone lists their favorite/most useful programs that they use on their phones.
1. vTap - Searches youtube and myspace videos and plays them. Have had some trouble with some of the larger videos but for stand up comedians it works great with the audio only option.
2. sbp pocket plus - Best program launcher I have used yet. Paid for it just before the new mort buttons though. Tabbed internet explorer.
3. spb mobile shell - I use it for the spbmenu and the Now screen. Turned off the today plugin.
4. Slick - Great for yahoo, AIM, and MSN messenging.
5. Live Search - I just really like this thing. Traffic updates, movie times, everything about it.
My TOP five..
1) battery status: I've set it to overclock itself to 260Mhz when running TCPMP and Skype. I don't need to overclock other apps
2) iLauncher 3.1: very light on memory as compared to SPB pocket plus and same set of features+running task icons on the taskbar(!)
3) PocketBreeze: must have PIM today plugin
4) Resco File explorer: puts the default file explorer to shame
5) Opera Browser: again, a must have for any PPC user who is serious about web browsing on a PPC
there are many more indispensible apps which I use on my herald(like im+, spb insight, resco radio, netfront v3.3, handyget, fast chm reader), but, aforementioned ones are the ones that must come in top 5!
Here are mine:
1. Coreplayer v1.1.1
2. Resco Explorer 2007 v6.17
3. Pocket Melody 0.21 (for now)
4. SPB Pocket Plus
5. S2U2 v0.86
S2U2
SpbDiary
PocketCM
Notes Explorer
VNC
For me:
1. Batterystatus
It's the only thing keeping my PPC snappy and usable.
2. VSPainter LE or Pocket Picture
Nothing keeps me interested on a long trolley ride like doodling on my PPC. VSPainter is prettier and has more features, but Pocket Picture is more flexible.
3. PocketCM
The message threading is pretty much the only use I get out of it. I really like how it doesn't hijack your SMSes like the other programs, but just reads your inbox/sents to form its list.
4. PPC Tablet
It uses your PPC as a mouse and tablet. While the active-screen thing is pretty much useless, using it to doodle on the screen is fun, and using your PC as a remote for some apps is a novel sort of fun.
5. Go Album
Lets me solve Go problems while I'm bored. As a game I find Go a bit too frustrating, but the life and death problems are really fun to figure out.
1. Battery Status - over clock to 247mhz, idle at 100mhz, boosted to 273-299mhz
2. Quick Menu 2.7 - makes the start menu appear like a pc's start menu
3. TCPMP+FLV bundle - youtube downloads
4. Slide2Unlock - best keypad lock ever created
5. PPCPimBackup 2.5 - backup contacts, recent calls, and messages

It doesn't work with Tzones. What I haven't tried is using a domain with the port number of the proxy, instead of my own ip : port...
1. BatteryMeter - Overclocking and because I kill every other annoying battery meter.
2. Notepad - Can't live without my notepad.
3. QuickMark - Fastest way to transfer information. It reads QRCodes with the camera.
4. PocketRAR
5. Oxios Memory - Me likes my clear memory.
- Battery Status
Overclock settings:
Scaler: 143-201-273 boost:299
Omapps: 260Mhz for all Media Apps
- EnAlarm
Got to wake up do..
- TCPMP + Youtube
Just love it. Plays everything! ANIME!!!
- PHM Registry Editor
I love to doodling around
- WM5 Storage
Fast school work transfer at school?

a good "Note" application ?

I don't like the microsoft note application I have. It's very slow (it takes a long time to open, and each time I close a note it takes again a long time).
Does anyone know a good "Notes" application other than the microsoft one ?
Thanks !
Are you talking about the default note app that comes with Windows mobile, or Microsoft's One Note? One Note used in conjunction with the desktop app is hard to beat.
I'm talking about the default note application that comes with Windows Mobile.
Look into Onenote, unless your looking for a cheap/free app. You can get a free trial to see if you like it. Onenote on the phone by itself isn't that valuable without the desktop app. I do a lot of research and I like to compose on the desktop what I might need in the field. Onenote fits my needs perfectly. It might not be a fit for yours though.
Or consider phatpad, phatnotes or Daynotez
OneNote Mobile is too basic for me, although the desktop version looks astonishing.
You may also consider Phatpad, Phatnotes or daynotez. All three are excellent applications, but all with a twist that makes each of them great, depending what your needs are. I've bought daynotez and phatpad. Would've bought phatnotes too, if the integration with phatpad was just slightly better
Vito Audionotes is also fantastic. That's what I use. You can even record phone conversations.
Webis note2self is great. Talk your note and mail it to yourself ;-) Easy as that.

I tried both "phatnotes for outlook" and "phatpad", they are very good but there's a big problem : you can't sync the notes using Outlook.
Even the "phatnotes for Outlook" application needs to first import all of your notes (with tabulation or comma problems ...) before syncing them with Outlook.
In fact I need a "notes" application which would be able to simply use the same notes as the microsoft notes application and sync them with Outlook...
But with no "import" needed (because imports caused me many problems).
Does anybody know one ?
Thanks again for everyone answers ...!
Here's my fav: http://free.hostingjava.it/-frusso/pda/frNotepad
It saves notes in plain txt (.txt) just like Notepad on your pc.
Evernote ?
The app is free (but to a certain storage level a month) and the ink note taking is OK. Text one is sub-OneNote Mobile however. Killer is that it syncs up to "the cloud" so your notes arevailable on web, windows or mac as well as Mobile.
Worth a look. IMHO nothing can touch PhatPad/Notes for function, but in today's world of connectivity, it is poor on being able to sync and share.

Because you didn't say what the long-term use of the application might be, I'd second the vote for PhatNotes. I use it on desktop and PPC and love it. The notes do, in fact, synchronize. However they do it on their own, not within the confines of Outlook. For this "inconvenience" it offers a very robust feature set, with only the one-time trouble of having to do some reformatting.
So, if you can get past that, I think that PhatNotes may be what you want.

MustHave apps on every rom :-)

I thought it would be a good idea to compile list of all of your favorite apps but only limited to the essential stuff, a definite must have on every rom you use. Things you put there initially where there is nothing else.
Some people like having Skype, other Opera already preinstalled but there is software which everyone would like to have compiled in already.
In my case there are 4 apps I add every time I change rom (if they are not there already of course )
1. QuickMenu - replaces WM start menu, works as task manager and quick launch - very very very useful and free! ;-)
2. Battery Status - self explainatory, displays battery status but also other interesting indicators.
3. Calendar+ - replaces standard today calendar allowing to display multiple days in advance, no extra fireworks, just simple few days ahead calendar.
4. PhoneWeaver - GREAT profile management application, since I bought it I never changed sound settings manually - it knows when I'm at work, when I'm sleeping and when its weekend and it can ring as loud as it wants! ;-)
I put these 4 in a rar so if someone wants to try them can have a go -
they are >> here <<
what are your "a must have" applications?
Googlemaps and PocketPutty.
http://www.pocketputty.net/
My Top 10:
1. Phoneweaver (SBHSH) - The first app I install after a hard reset or new flash. Couldn't do without it.
2. Lordsmiff's Battery Level - Nice, unobtrusive battery meter.
3. PocketWeather (SBSH)
4. SwartB SmartDevice - Adds a few important menu options to the Messaging app, like "Delete All" and "Mark All as Unread".
5. Google Maps
6. TeleNav
7. S2U2
8. Microsoft LiveSearch
9. Opera Mini
10. KeePass

Okay. To answer your questions:
1. Remote access via their site and application
2. you can view your PC through your PPC
3. If you pay for it (which I haven't), you can access your PC's files and transfer then to your kaiser. You can transfer the audio too, so you can play your 80gigs of music on your pc but hear it through your kaiser.
Installation Instructions:
1. Go to www.logmein.com and register for the site.
2. Install LogMeIn to your PC
3. Install LogMeIn to your PPC by going to https://secure.logmein.com/pda/ (via Internet Explorer, wont work with Opera, Netfront, or Skyfire) and login to your account. It all ask you to dowload and install the PPC client.
4. After it has been installed, it will show you a list of your computers
5. Click the one that you named your pc that you installed it to first
6. Login to your remote pc by entering your remote pc's account name and password. (NOTE: This won't work unless you have a password on your PC's account)
7. Remote Access
8. Click the corner of the screen (top, bottom, left, right) to scroll that way if you don't make it fit to desktop.
I'll upload a few pics later.

Lol. I've never even heard of McGuider. I guess it all depends on where you live. I use GarminMobileXT
wktask !
My list
* Spb Mobile Shell - instead of Today screen
* Spb Pocket Plus - battery bar, improved IE, explorer, key config etc..
* Spb Phone Suite - Profiles
* Spb Time - manage alarms
* Softstick Card Export - Turn storage card into USB memory
* Core Player - Video playback, youtube
* KeePass - Manage passwords, credit cards, serials
* Finger-Friendly-Friends - Contacts
* Wimp - Keep track of those thieves..
* iGO8 - Navigation
* ESymetric Run GPS - keep track of self when running
* PocketMusic - play mp3, ogg
* MASPware AutoManager - keeps track of car costs
* VGAKEY - SIP
And many more, but those are the essentials.
What we REALLY need
something that could access the system databases so we could install stuff like pcm keyboard(htc skin) and throttle launcher without a cab/.exe file.
otherwise, I would prefer
the ones mentioned
s2p
aim beta or anything like that
opera 9.405 cuz it has flash
google maps
live search
kaiser tweak
There is alot of stuff in freewarepocketpc.net
VITO's Fun Contacts is my new favorite program. EVERYONE should check it out. iphone like functionality with your contacts

what are soom cool things to download on my x1

i already have touch flo3d and windows mobile voice command
THPS2...
my top five.
i have a bunch of apps.
i mostly use the following:
G-alarm
evernote
i-nigma (bar code reader)
qik (live video broadcasting from your phone)
the you tube panel.
and now i guess im using the point home 2 ui instead of touch flo3d.
you can find all (or most) if you just use the foruM search
I m using Resco contact manager which is my personal favourite especially because I like the today screen ..and have been playing around with morphgear a little which isnt bad .. here is the link to the contact manager if u want to try it
http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/contactmanager/default.asp
must haves..
wmvwifi router.. i use old free beta.
www.mymobiler.com to remote control from pc
total commander (for registry and ftp access)
http://www.scummvm.org/downloads.php for som old point and click games.
depend on your interests really
like I installed a program which would let me detect in which direction to point my sat disc
to get various channels
but people without sat discs would find limited usesage for such and app
much like I would find little usage for a plane spotting app which told me which times I should hit out to the airport to see some rare type of plane
for pure brain storm these types of threads work wonders giving you an impression of whats out there
but if you got some special interest then
searching on google for
<what ever> pocketpc
like
paint pocketpc
often works wonders pocketpc in one word works better with google then
windows mobile because it's 2 words and having windows in any search give way
too many pc windows hits

This app doesn't seem to be supported on the X1. Did you use an install from a different phone? I think it looks pretty cool, and I'd love to use it, but no amount of google searching is providing me with the answer here.
I have got navigation software on my X1 and I often use it for navigation during the trip to a new place. It saves me money on buying a new navigator and saves me another carrier. Isn't is cool?

My Personal Favorite Apps/Tweaks

I thought it was about time I shared my secrets. I've thoroughly tested every app. What doesn't work well, I don't post or use. Most if not all are .cab files so installing them is a snap. Some applications do require a second program for them to run, thus it would be more convienient if you were to install them first. The two files are Adobe Flash 7, and the .NET 3.5 Framwork...
Flash 7: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flash/devices/pocket_pc/installers/fp7_ppc_en.cab
.NET 3.5: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...49-3C6B-42F1-9FD9-0041345B3385&displaylang=en
Unfortunately the .cab file is somewhat hard to find for the .net framework. The link I've inlcuded is from Microsoft and is installed from your PC. If all else fails a quick internet search for ".net compact framework cab" should get a result. Make sure you install both of these programs TO THE DEVICE.
Note...the list isn't in any order, I like them all!
FlashLIGHT
This is one of my favorite programs. It's called FlashLIGHT. It's a flash application (amusing isn't it?). It's an .exe file you copy into your programs folder under My Device>Windows>Start Menu>Programs. Then it will appear in your programs list. It's a really nice app with some really neat features...including...THE LIGHTSABER. Yes, for once, a lightsaber app for a phone without a motion sensor.

S2U2 (Slide to Unlock 2) and S2V (Slide to View)
Here's one that was just updated today! I really like this one just because it's really easy to use. It has full screen caller ID, SMS, MMS, and Email notifications. I would recommend you install it to the phone.
The other app that also works with S2U2 is S2V, it's a really nice photo viewer that you can also use to set the background to the today screen, contacts, and the background for portrait and landscape mode in S2U2.
More information and the links to download are at the developer's site...

Batti 2.4
This plugin is really handy. It's a battery gauge that sits at the top of the taskbar and shows graphically how much battery is left. There are like one or two other apps similar to this but this one is very customizeable. Install this one to the device.

HTC Home Customizer
This one is kind of nice just for a change of pace. If you're like me, you got bored looking at the same plugin. Install to the device.

StopWatch 2.2
Very nice chronograph app. Haptic feedback (vibrates when you tap the buttons), split, and alarms. You can install this to the storage card.

Pencil Box
This one is really nice. This is the free version, and as you will find out, you can't save your masterpieces. I have the full version and if you're into sketching like me, it's well worth the $13. You can install this to the storage card.

Kaiser Tweak
This is a MUST for any Kaiser owner. Enable HSDPA, turn off that extremely annoying startup sound, make the keyboard faster, and much more! Make sure you do a soft reset after changing any settigns. Install this to the device.

Well I think that about does it.
Signing off,
