when i turn the screen off (pressing the sleep button or letting itself turn off after the required time) it wont wake up again and i have to take the battery out or do a hard reset. anyone know whats happening
are you pressing the power button or one of the others?
think it defaults to the power button unless you change it to any button

Has this issue been resolved? Seeing this happening more and more now. Without very consistency, I'm suspecting it happens more when you let it sleep with the wifi on and connected to a router.. or it can be the touchflo3d....
TF3D is a known culprit for this issue.
It has happened only on time to me (so far). I'm using the stock ROM with no TF3D. The time it happened i had the earphones and the charger plugged in. lol?
Ok, just happened to me for the 2nd time today.
NO:
Wifi
Bluetooth
In airplane mode (all radio off)
YES:
USB connected to my Mac
running SyncMate on Mac and driver on the X1
TouchFlo3D
Ok...
Just happened again when I was waiting for a important phone call...
YES:
Wifi to my router (Apple Airport)
Bluetooth on to my Sony stereo headset
Touchflo3D
Stock UK R1A ROM
NO:
Not connected to my Mac
I'm guessing it locked up 1-2 hr after the stock alarm woke me up, I turn it off and put the phone to sleep. Hard to believe its memory related as the phone was freshly soft-rest right before I went to sleep.
So something randomly happened or there was a massive memory leak with touchflo3d over night even in sleep mode!
I've to admit this is a unpopular thread.. am I the one of the only few having this problem reoccurring?
I had the Standby of Death SOD this is when the phone fails to come out of standby with a power button press. This issue only affects some people on some networks. I'm not sure if its a network problem or a software problem but as only a minority of people have it, I suspect its mainly a network problem there is a software solution.
The solution is to change the phone settings band option from auto 3G/2G to either 3G Only (WCDMA + UTMS 2100 in Europe) or 2G Only (GSM + AUTO) depending on your requirements.
Also read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540943&highlight=standby&page=2where the resolution was to get a new SIM.
Obviously this only solves the problem when the crash is because of the sim and/or settings which impact the sim. To rule out a software cause its best to start with a hard reset.

I recently bought a bluetooth keyboard mainly to use while on wifi, but to my disappointed wifi dont seem to work with bluetooth on!
Another problem, my ppc keeps shutting down while i'm using my bt keyboard, tried few "keepalive" apps but it still shuts down, found only one way, thats adjusting the power settings not to shut down permanently, but this needs soft reset every time
Anyone with experience or suggestion on either the above?
Nevermind that, I found out that wifi needs adequate signal strength in order to function properly with bluetooth on.
About the power issue, the main problem was not knowing when the PPC will shut down, so i wrote a morscript to prompt a countdown when its about to shut down, and option to reset the idle timer.
Thanks all..
Hi im having a problem can someone tell me if this is right or not.
When i have wifi turned on conencted to some point and using msn, after a while of not touching the phone the phone goes to sleep mode automatically when i press the side button to get back to the screen menu wifi shows its turned off and msn was already dissconnected the moment my phone went to sleep mode.Is this nromal? If so is there a way of fixing it.Thanks
As my first time using windows mobile not sure if its right or not.
Wifi will not remain active once the phone enters standby mode. If you switch the phone on again, wifi should also automatically wake up, but needs to restore the connection to the wireless network from scratch.
I see thanks.
Is this different for bluetooth even when its in stayby mode it seem to work.
Thanks
That's correct. Bluetooth remains active in standby and therefore a major battery sucker.
I see thanks everyone. So pretty much impossible to have MSN on the whole time unless i set my phone so that it will not go to sleep mode. Hence msn beceoms a big battery sucker as wifi will be on for a long time?
Thanks
Is it really impossible to tell WM to leave Wifi switched on when my Diamond goes to sleep mode?
Has somebody a solution for this?
Yeah I have a similar problem with emails... I'm trying to get emails over wifi/wireless lan, auto send and rec every 15 minutes but the device enters standby before this time... Done a ping to the device and as soon as it enters sleep mode it kill the connection... I would think that if there is an active app (like MSN or EMail) that wants to download data it would reconnect to any setup wlans or stay connected when using a service like msn... Is there any reg hack for this..?
My next question is when the back light dimms (not enter stand by) is it possible to set up keylock? i.e. disable the touch screen/HW keys, then I could standby the device after 30-45 mins (see how the battery goes on that one..!)...
--
Edit: I did a bit of digging around the web found this tool called PocketToolman - http://freewareppc.com/utilities/pockettoolman.shtml - Looks like it has an option to enable wifi in standby mode Seems to work anyone else want to give it a test to see if it works... I'll see if I can find a reg key for this tomorrow, unless anyone knows of one already? Looks like the standby kills the CPU so WiFi packets can be processed etc..? But Win Mobile 6 Pro has an "unattended mode", that should allow wifi to work and emails to s&r and MSN to stay connected... For eg this app calls unattended mode to keep wifi active... http://www.pda-ppc.com/download/communication/content/WMWifiRouter.html
EDIT 2:
I've been able to find the following keys that should work with the wifi...
make sure the 98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006 class mataches wifi adapter
Disabled Enabled
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Suspend\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}\Default
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Resuming\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}\Default
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Unattended\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}\Default
Now I'm assuming that HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Suspend\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}\Default will keep the wifi connected in standby mode... I'm going to test, can others also test to confirm?
DWORD Dec values have states 0-4, 0 being full power 4 being off... Just to test it, use vaulue of 1... Need a soft reset... It may be worth changing the vaules to 2 or 3 to see if WiFi still remains connected but what the battery drain is like...
Found another app that may also work - http://freewareppc.com/communication/wifiprofiles.shtml
Creds to http://209.85.175.104/search?q=cach...wifi+unattended+mode&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=7&gl=au for key locations
Someone else test these and let me know what results you get/what power settings you use...
Given how quickly my phone battery drops with WiFi enabled I doubt you'd get more than 3-4 hours out of it if WiFi was enabled in standby mode.
When you want to use MSN over wifi set the following reg keys to dec value of 2:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\ Suspend\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}\Default
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\ Resuming\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}\Default
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\ Unattended\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}\Default
Power state of 3 doesnt seem to work..? Ideas?
Did some testing using each value as 2 (low power)... For me it drained about 35% of the battery in 4 hours... So you should get a full day (10hrs) out of it before you get to 10% or so...
Be worth making an app that allows you to toggle this...
I know this doesn't really apply to MSN (which needs always-on wifi), but for emails at least maybe there could be a way for the phone to activate wifi instead of the data connection when it wakes up every N minutes to check for new email. And then maybe after a timeout period it could activate the data connection (i.e. if there is no trusted wireless network available) to get the emails. Anyone heard of such a thing?
Also, why does wifi drain the battery so quickly in standby mode but the data connection does not?
Bumping this. Does anyone have any ideas? I might cross-post this in the Touch Pro forum if no one has any thoughts here.
This may help:

Honestly no expert on this, however if you install Advanced Config, under Menu/More Settings/Connections there's an option "Enable Wi-Fi on standby mode" I guess if you tick that you mught have your solution...
I personally haven't tried it.
Yep, just checked it myself and it seems to be do the trick...!
Obviously what sucks there is that you'll need to manually turn your WiFi on and off or otherwise you miht get some serious battery drain...
I used to use one of Dutty's early WM6.1 ROMs, but have recently upgraded to Dutty's Diamond V1 ROM. Since upgrading I am unable to get the WiFi to stay enabled in either standby mode or even when just turning off the screen (using Screensaver.exe).
The KaiserTweak/registry hack seems to have no effect. If the WiFi is enabled and I turn the screen off the WiFi LED flashes 3 more times and then stops as the WiFi turns itself off. This never used to be an issue with the previous ROM, is there a registry setting somewhere or is this a ROM/Radio related issue?
After using the Kaisertweak to edit the registry, did you do a power cycle to make it go in effect?

Yes, I have performed numerous soft resets since enabling the WiFi Standby setting.
Wifi issues in ATT TILT
hi!
Even I am having the same issue and it bugs me a lot. I am using ATT TILT with original ATT ROM and I want to stay online on skype using wifi.
The only wat is that inside skype there is an option of "preventing device from entering sleep mode" which I have checked. This way I remain online but my phone's battery consumption increases a lot. I have not tried it on att 3G ( please tell me your experiences with 3g connection, does it go off even in 3g ). I even tried installing psshutxp and device lock, but no help.
I want my phone to go into sleep mode but with its wifi to remain on, so that i can keep on recieving skype calls.
One more thing:
I think in psshutxp the light off is same as pressing the on/off button once ( enters into sleep mode ), as in both of them the wifi goes off.
And the kaiser tweak also doesn;t seem to have any effect too.
I was hoping to get some thing that will only swith off the display of the phone, keeping the phone active, this can also keep me online and save some battery.
att tilt 8925, be Backlight closed, (be wifi closed)
How can I solve this problem
Hi guys,
I've been trying without succeeding to make it that they phone locks when I put the phone into sleep mode (short tap of power button).
I used the SPB mobile shell so I've tried mapping either the left or right softkey to applications such as "LockAndOff" and "DeviceLock" however as soon as I navigate around on SPB, the soft keys revert to the SPB defaults. I've also tried "Advanced Config" to do the same but somehow SPB over-rode the settings.
I was using Slide2Unlock for a while, which did exactly what I wanted it to do apart from it wasn't very stable on my X1 and I occasionally has issues answering the phone or waking it up from sleeping, so I've now removed it.
How can I either:
a) Keep SPB from re-mapping the soft keys - so that I can assign one of the keys to one of the programs I've got
b) Remap the power button to run one of these programs at a short touch
c) Improve the stabiliy of S2U - does anyone else have this problem.
Plz let me knpw,
Si

Okay. I noticed today that when pressed the power button to wake my phone from sleep the wifi or 3g (depending on where i was and what I was connected to, ie home or away) icon was not showing and thus indicating that it wasn't connected. Hmm, I thought it was odd, maybe it was a display error. But I then noticed that my emails and gmails all came through a few seconds after I unlocked the phone (and the connection icon appeared) and that they had all been sent whilst the phone was asleep. So, it seems to me that the phone is disconnecting from any data source when it goes into sleep mode. Now, I am right in thinking that the whole point of push notifications or setting your email to sync every 5 minutes is that the phone will remain connected even whilst asleep, and then wake up (briefly even) when it picks up an email?
I had no power saver on, no smart sync, wifi set to never sleep. Is this normal? It's pretty important that I get my emails as and when they sent to me. Any advice would be great. I am wondering if it's a bug, and whether I need to take to the phone back to exchange for another one?
Info: not rooted, stock rom software no. 1.28.61.7, kernal 3.4.10-gddcfb8c [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT, carrier EE (UK).
Cheers
you're sure power saver in the top menu wasn't on? because that's what it does, turns off wifi and data when the screen is off for an expended period.
maybe cycle it on and off a couple of times and see if the problem persists...

No, isn't normal.
So, can you upgrade to the latest firmware and, maybe, do a full wipe?
Did you install some app for battery?
And check that your power saver isn't on...
Check under power, setting that sleep mode is off. That on by default on mine. It turns data off after extended screen of time and doesn't require the power save to be activated.

Hmm, no additional battery apps, power saving toggled and definitely off (I purposefully turned it off because of it's data management policy), and sleep mode set to off.
So, I'm right in thinking that you/others actually get notifications then? and wifi/3g is working fine? Looks like it's a return and hope that the next one works (I only got the phone 7days ago). My software update says no updates available, though this is likely to be EE fault. If I can get the shop to exchange I might just do that. Ho hum, another 3 hours setting the thing up again then...
It seems to be a Wifi switching itself off problem...

So, a quick update in case anyone else is having this problem.
I reset the phone to see if it would make a difference and it kind of has. Now I have noticed that if I am using mobile data it's fine. Things are pushed, notifications come through. But if I use Wifi it's a different matter.
it seems that with Wifi on and connected then it works for around 15 minutes when the phone is sleeping (I have done a few tests). After this it seems to shut wifi down and hence no notifications. So it would seem to me that although Power Saving is set to OFF, and Sleep mode (ie no data in sleep) is set to OFF, the phone is still disconnecting from WIfi regardless of the settings. Which is a bit frustrating as I don't want to be connected to the mobile network all the time, especially at home, but still want to know if I receive emails.
Anyone else experienced this Wifi switching itself off issue (and then switching itself on as soon as you manually wake the phone?)? I have to decide whether to return the phone for a replacement or not. If this is a wide ranging issue it might not be worth it - though I'd have thought a simply thing, like keeping wifi on at all times wouldn't be hard to make sure it worked.
there are a few apps available on the play store such as "keep wifi alive" which might do the trick.

Okay, now I feel a bit of Doughnut! I think I've found out what was causing this. So, even though I had Power Saver OFF, Smartsync OFF, Sleep Mode (disconnect data whilst sleep) OFF, I hadn't had a proper look in the Wifi settings, and under Advanced I found:
Advanced>Keep Wifi on during Sleep. This hadn't been set to Always and was set to 'Only when plugged in'. So, changed to 'Always' and now it seems to work (and that would explain why I got emails through the night when charging).
So, apart from feeling a little red-faced for not exploring every single menu available, I am happy it (seems) sorted. If anyone has wifi dropping whilst phone is sleeping it seems there are four steps:
SmartSync = OFF [in Mail app]
Power Saver = OFF [in status bar and Power Settings]
Sleep Mode = OFF [in Power Settings]
Keep Wifi on during Sleep = Always [in Wifi>Advanced Settings]
Hopefully this'll help anyone else who has been having a bit of prolonged blond moment with the phone settings. {retreats to corner}

I have similar problem. Even when I have everything OFF as you suggest, I get disconnected a second after screen goes off. When I turn phone back on, I can see that wifi is on, but all aps are off and wont connect again. I have to turn wifi off and on and applications like skype go again online. I have this problem at home and also at work on corporate network. I have even tried apps that should keep wifi on, but with no change.
Interesting is that after the phone goes to sleep mode, I can see that speed of wifi is changing on phone. The phone actualy stays connected to wifi, but doesn't send or receive data.
The router at home is TP-Link 1043ND with DD-WRT (flashed to last firmware to see if it fixes this problem). I'm not sure what brand and type are corporate APs, but could be some cisco or similar.
Any advice what else I could try?
