Bought one from Ebay for a good rpice though the photo should an unbrabded box. Turns up and it's an orange one.
Now I;m not fussed if was a Fisher price branded one though the ROM does worry me as the HTC website won;t let download the official ROM.
What are my options. I love the phone and would keep it (asked for a kick back anyway due to false advertising) though if I can;t upgrade the ROM I would be pee'd. It's got a cooked ROM by Olinex???
ROM Version 1.37.405.1.WWE
ROM Date 06/12/08
Radio Version 1.20.OliNex
What should I do??
Cheers
Looks like the one you got it from (sim-)unlocked it.
There should be HardSPL on your phone, so its no problem to flash an unbranded rom.
Had alook and can't find hardspl..phones woerks fine with my Vodafone sim and the data connection is all set up.
Just the fact that I wanted the official ROM on it and not sure if this is possible?
Been a while since i bothered with ROMs etc
searched the whole phone and HardSPL is not there???
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416211
hope this helps
did the SPL check and it does indeed have SPL1.40.
Does that mean I can flash the official HTC rom? straight over what I have?
Thanks....

Hi there, I've just received a "new" HTC Trinity from Vodafone Portugal and I've some doubts regarding it. The ROM version is pretty old (1.15.410.2) and I was wondering through the HTC support and they have a new generic ROM (portuguese ROM) with GPS enabled and other improvements.
So the risk of upgrading to this new ROM is practically null (is it?) since it is a ROM provided by the vendor, and afterwards I will have the GPS working, but the SIM will remain locked.
Then I can run the batch file provided by pof to unlock the ppc, and there it is : a GPS enabled Trinity that I can use in PT and UK.
Well, is this so linear or am I missing something?
thanks,
and cheers
mouro
download rom removes sim lock?!
if downloading the new rom resets all the settings from the vodafone operator, shouldn't also remove the SIM lock?
well, this might appear a dumb question but it make sense (at least to me )
thanks
1)
If your phone is a Vodaphone, and you install a HTC generic ROM on it, you may lose the benefit of your Vodaphone warranty.
But since your ROM version is so old, I guess it's a second hand phone, not a new one, so your Warranty period has probably already expired.
In this case, you have nothing to lose.
2)
Flashing a new ROM on your phone doesn't make it a sim unlocked phone.
Besides, if there is SPL/IPL on that so called generic HTC ROM, you may not be able to flash it onto your phone, unless you CID unlock it.
Hard SPL is a wise option, search on the forum, you'll find everything for SIM and CID unlock.
Thanks for the reply.
I've already seen how to unlock the SIM/CID.
I'm gonna try the upgrade to Hard-SPL. If I'm successful then i can change to a recent cooked ROM.
thanks,
i'll let you know if I bricked my ppc
hope not!
cheers
Well I've managed to update the bootloader to SPL 1.20 and the Radio ROM. Now I can see the radio version on the settings panel.
These tools are really something, I didn't have any problem flashing the ROM !!!
Next step is to upgrade to a new ROM, but :
1) Can I use any ROM available (independently of the CID)?
2) Are there any cooked ROMs with GPS software?
3) Is the WM6 a must have, or is it more or less like WM5 with some extra eye
candy and extra overhead ?
4) Can I SIM unlock the phone with the pof tool with the SPL bootloader?
Thanks for the help!
regards,
mouro
Hi Mouro
I also have a P3600 in Portugal. In the begining I also installed the htc rom from vodafone to enable gps.
I think you have to unlock the phone cid (instal super cid) in order to be possible the installationn of any coocked rom.
I´m sure that all the coocked roms have gps enabled.
WM6 has some advantages, especially the htc task manager and maybe a bit more speed... but I think the advantages are not that much when compared with WM5. Anyway, it´s the latest version and we always consider that important...
Yes, you can use the tools provided by pof to unlock the phone.
Mine is working fine and very stable.
Nothing to complaint about.
Best regards
hey nj05
thanks for your reply
I think I'm gonna give it a try.
before installing the HARD SPL I was a little scared because after all, this is an expensive toy but now after seeing all the positive feedback I'm gonna give it a try.
Tomorrow I'll post here the results.
best regards

all rigth baby
well,
finally I have my ppc unblocked with an original ROM from HTC with everything running smooth!!!
Thanks to everybody!
keep up the good hacking work!

Hi, I'm pretty new to this flashing business so go easy on me! I know there are a lot of roms out there but I'm finding it tricky to pick out some of the good ones. In the meantime I would just like to put the updated stock HTC rom on there as I've got the ghastly tmobile one on my MDA Compact IV.
Now, to my understanding I need hardspl for cooked roms, but for official roms i wont need. If this is the case, how is it done? Could anyone shed some light on this??
Thanks
You might still need an unsigned hardspl as the original HTC rom won't be for your region or operator.
Best thing is to try an flash a ROM to your phone. If you get an error message then you know you'll need to change your hardspl.
i tried the official htc rom without hardspl and it didnt work. Ive upgraded to signed hardspl now, do u think it should work?
I have searched a lot of places, please help. Where I can get the latest T-mobile ROM and Radio for Diamond? Thanks a lot.
I think you will struggle. I looked for quite some time before flashing my MDA with Swiftblades ROM (in case I needed to send it back for repair). In the end I gave up and just went for it!

The thing with this link is you have no idea what SPL you need to use do you? I havent flashed mine yet from t-mobile stock but Im aware you need to use HardSPL to flash a cooked ROM right? In which case what does this .exe do and what HardSPL does it need.
Like the poster - I like the security of being able to role back....not so keen on a one way ticket even if everyone seems to tell me its the way to go to bring the diamond to life..
Yes, I am looking for the latest ROM and Radio for MDA Compact IV, I don't know if the ROM upstaires of UK is the right one for T-Mobile MDA Compact IV.Please help. If the theme color is pink? Thanks a lot.
do not flash to the rom in the link provided as this is a very old version of the ROM which is extremely slow, instead wait for someone to dump the new ROM (or just keep the old one as a failsafe for warranty like i have) and go to a cooked rom instead ^^

That link has all the same versions as what T-Mobile are currently shipping...it might be very old...but its what Ive got at the moment...just dont know how to use that .exe and what SPL etc.....
Does anyone know how to dump the rom currently in your phone out to something that you can reprogram it with later if needed?
[Q] MDA compact IV (German T-Mobile)
i have the same Problem.
The German T-Mobile-Version has changed/invertet HW-Buttons!
The original
So, if i find a ROM and Patch my MDA4, will it work? Or do i need a very special version beacuse of the invertet HW-Buttons (Keys?)?
Where may i fond a "how to" to find the way to find the right ROM i can use?
tnx
I have just got a replacement from t mobile yesterday. It is the same version in this page. No new version has been released yet. I use hardspl 1.24 from jocky and then use duttys v2 rom. Works ok. When I had to return mine i used the above link and then used SPL 1.37 which it ships with. You can find stock spls by doing a search.

Why did you get a replacement - was it to try and get one with a newer ROM? Ive got a week left in which to return mine if I want to - which I dont. I really like the phone but its a bit slow and klunky with 1.37.x.x
Nice to know youhave managed to use that .exe though...so you whacked SPL 1.37 on it which you found somewhere on here and then executed the .exe and bosh....back to old ROM/Radio?

yea. Thats about right. First you have to flash the stock rom and radio in the link. Then last of all get the stock spl and flash it. Then it will be like the stock t-mobile you will get from the shop
the phone was faulty. thats why it was replaced. It came with the same old rom though.
anyone know now what to do with a t-mobile MDA IV ?
I am still not able to decide if i will buy a t-mobile (can get it for 300 euro, no contract) or buy a original.
I've given in and bought one, and, hopefully it will be here by Thursday, it works out at £285 over 12 months but only 150/150 mins/txts (I've only gone over that twice in the last 2 years)
I've had my mdac3 for 18 months and it has been returned/replaced 5 times, every time it has had a 'non tmobile' rom on it and they haven't batted an eyelid, so why is everyone suddenly worried about flashing back to an original rom? Surely if your phone knacks up badly enough that it has to be returned then you would struggle to put the old rom back anyway?
Firstly...I'm with 3 in Australia
Ok, bought a TYTN II off ebay some months ago now from a Hong Kong dealer (that'll learn me) and it seems to not work with the 3G network here in Australia. The phone is always EDGE roaming and whenever it switches to 3G I can't send or receive SMS messages.
I've done some reading around and found that maybe I need to flash the ROM of the phone to an Australian one so that the phone will work properly. I found a thread on Whirlpool and someone there posted a link to this ROM for another user:
www.mediafire.com/?0jt1cwyx61g
Is that the ROM I want? If so, how do I go about flashing my phone with this ROM to make it work?
Can anyone help me??
You're more than likely having issues with the radio that came with the phone. Go to the ROM development forum, read how to unlock, install HardSPL, etc.. and then choose either one of the ROMs that come with a new radio available: NATF, Hyperdragon, Dutty's, etc... or look at one of the threads that show how to install a new radio. I'm not going to make any ROM recommendations, because it's really a matter of personal taste and how the ROM feels to you. For me personally, I've settled on T.i.R vk8 WWE build 19971. And I have radio version 1.58.25.17.
Hey dude,
congrats on the kick-ass new phone.
To help you with your prob, you'll have to signup and login to HTC E-Club for Australia, then download and flash the latest 3 ROM. Its the only way to ensure you have the correct inbuilt three network settings, there was a cab floating around a while back but it didn't include planet3 connectivity - only mobile internet.
look for this one :
HTC TyTN II WM6.1 ROM code for Hutchison ‘3’ Network customers
ROM version: 3.29.861.0
ROM date: 05/15/08
Radio version: 1.65.16.25
Protocol version: 25.83.40.02H
Date: 2008-06-02 Category: ROM Upgrade
I found the ROM development page and the list of radios that relate to the specific ROM's match the ones I already have (note: I already flashed my phone using the one in the link I provided in my first post).
I went and registered for HTC E-Club and went to download the WM6.1 ROM u mentioned Sanchez and when I entered the Serial Number it says the ROM is unsuitable for my phone. Is this because it is NOT an Australian phone?
Would this ROM actually work on my phone and would I be able to get a copy of it from somewhere else?
yeah, its not the actual ROM so much as the stuff Three bundle within that you need.
I'm aka Dr.Nerdlinger on whirlpool, a guy I recommended this to didn't have any problems, seemed to make his US Tilt into an Aussie Three TyTnII.. Havent tried it myself as Im already three branded.

I have flashed this ROM anytime I've had problems with others and it has always worked.
One question though, did Juvs Network Wizard not find 3 for you or it failed in some other way?
Congrats on your purchase and hope get as much out of it as I have

Damn! Sorry...
The ROM I posted the link to doesn't ask me for a "serial" when I've flashed it..
I assume you have run the Connection Setup wizard (Settings > Connections > Connection Setup?
Have you tried to manually enter 3's settings?
Perhaps flash the latest Hyperdragon III http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397121
It has a suitable radio for Australia and I flashed this recently on a TyTn II purchased in Malaysia and all worked fine (as did the ROM I referred to earlier)
Ok but to flash to that (being a cooked ROM) dont I have to do something before I can flash to that? Is it HardSPL I have to install or something like that?
Yes... Unlock and flash a hard spl...
It is quite easy
Excellent directions here:

I am in no way an expert with these devices but I have had no problem that hasn't been quickly resolved.
perhaps unlocking the phone may resolve your problem with flashing the 3 shipped ROM.... (again, no expert here)
Ok seems this is not gonna work. I've done some reading and apparently the board it to blame for my phone not working properly. Since it was an eBay job (but from a company) I can still get warranty but I have to send overseas to HK.
What do people think, I can buy a new TytnII for $659 and when the old one comes back from warranty I can sell it. Would the new one (if I bought from Australian store) work on 3G?
Unless it's faulty hardware, it shouldn't need a return. Don't spend your cash just yet
Try this new official 3.34.721.2 WWE HTC rom, with 1.70 radio.
Download it, plug your activesync cable in, run the exe file you downloaded - after 20 mins or so, you should have the latest ROM, with built in Aus Three Network detection (assuming you have a legal 3 sim-card)
(ps. it may seem like its stalled while flashing, but just give it time)
Report back if successful
Downloaded and installed last night - doesnt seem to have made any difference
sigh...

After Flashing a ROM you should always hard reset the device as well. After all this is done, what versions of the following are showing as being installed: ROM, Radio, SPL (can find the last one in the tri colour boot screen - read the wiki if you need to know how to get to the boot screen)? If all of this is showing correctly and you're still having problems then it's probably something like the sim (just any old sim won't do and it needs to be compatible with the phone). You could try another if you have a spare. When you switched it on, after a minute or so did you get a message popping up asking if you wanted to automatically configure the phone for your networks settings?
Hi
Basically i just tried to download the latest ROM from HTC support and it wouldn't let me, kept saying "not suitable for your handset" after i put in my serial number. Basically e-mailed the support and they say that because my handset is orange branded, that I cannot download it from them. I have recently found another way to download the ROM, but in the email it said that orange may have made har or software changes to the phone. Will this mean that the ROM will not work? Have not yet tried for fear of bricking my phone!!!
Thanks
will most likely Brick it.
its the SPL that controls what ROMs you can flash.
That sucks.... my phone hasnt been updated yet, and is still pretty slow!
Cheers for the reply!
you can always flash a Hard SPL (i believe 1.37 is the preferred one).
you can flash back to the original ROM and SPL for warrenty reasons... i'd suggest making a note of the existing SPL version (can be found in Bootloader - Soft reset and Vol Down button).
Just checked, my SPL is 1.37.0000, does that mean I can update?
Orange have their own version of the latest 1.93 rom
It has MINIMAL changes - mainly the auto set up of Orange data etc
It's really fast and stable
Give that a try
You can dowload an up to date ROM from the Orange (UK) website - I downloaded it a few weeks ago. It is version 1.93.405.1. It works much better and quicker and has no Orange specific branding. Why not go for that one as then your warranty will not be affected
Hi, could you link that ROM, please?
Can't find it on the website.
Many thanks.
Here it is, enjoy it before Orange push out 1.97:
