You won't have Hard SPL.
Carriers don't ever make Hard SPL's, xda-developers do.
Some prototypes are SIM unlocked or Security unlocked, but they will still have an SPL that requires a signed and matching CID image before it will flash it.
Thanks
Dave
Thanks for your response
And...Yes, my phone is SIM unlocked or Security unlocked

I used lokiwiz02b to unlock? both the SID and CID. The device restarted during both installations like it should have.
I read about how to check if the SID is unlocked by using a SIM card from another network but what about the CID?
Thank for any help.

assuming you already flashed up to a 2.xx carrier rom, you can attempt to flash a different carrier's rom or any 2.xx custom rom here to see if it changes. If it errors out or completes but nothing changes then you are not CID unlocked.
Thank you. Yeah, I followed "How to fllsh a Wizard..." tutorial up to G4.6 assuming it was unlocked. I tried Xplorer 1.1 (originally getting error 300) but then updated the romupdateutility.exe. After the install finished i just had the 3 Color bootloader screen.

woah woah woah... You have a G4... G4's aren't CID Unlocked unless you have paid to have this done from imei-check.co.uk . You also have to be careful (if you don't know this already) what roms you flash. Don't just go and flash another carrier's rom on a G4 or you could (will?) wind up with a brick.
So on a G4, you will either have to pay to get CID Unlocked or you use ShellTool to do upgrades (you have to make sure you remove the IPL/SPL in roms before upgrading).

yeah, you didn't have that signature in your post when I replied originally. You have a G4. be very careful which roms you flash. Flashing IPL/SPL into a G4 will brick it. Lokiwiz won't CID unlock a G4. As MFrazzz has said the only known way to CID unlock a G4 is to pay a website for it (imei-unlockers or something like that.)
I forgot to put this in my post earlier... Please use this to learn to flash:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613
Since we now know you have a G4, just start at G4.1 and have fun (but be careful).
Just out of curiosity:
If I buy unlock code from say IMEI Check and CID unlock my device, would I ever need to run Hard SPL or Soft SPL to upgrade/downgrade my Trinity? Then going forward, can I just run any custom/cooked/original ROMs without worrying (since my device is permanently unlocked)? Please don't ask me why I want to pay for this when there are so many free alternatives - I don't know the answer
Last but not least, which method of unlocking preserves the warranty? Can the device be locked back just in case I need to take it to service?
Thank you! (I know these qns have been answered many times in this forum, but I just want to reassure myself that I got it all correctly)
As far as I know, IMEI-Check will completely unlock the device, allowing ROM upgrading etc without the need for additional hard SPL or softSPL.
Unlocking in itself doesn't affect the warranty, so you could simply use IMEI check to unlock for use of another SIM card. Further than that, flashing a new, unofficial Radio or OS ROM will technically invalidate the warranty. Most of the free unlockers actually work by flashing the Radio ROM, so in that case IMEI Check is safer as it retains the original ROM.
Once unlocked, there is no way to relock a device, but as long as you have the Operators own ROM in place, the lock status won't be looked at.

Yes, you'll also need to use SSPL / HardSPL if you plan to flash cooked roms (unsigned) in NBH format using the RUU updater.
You'll not need to use SSPL / HardSPL if you plan to flash shipped official ROMs (signed) using the RUU updater or if you you extract the *.nb files from the NBH upgrade and flash from mtty using LNB command in imei-check's MFG bootloader (which doesn't check signatures). You won't be able to flash unsigned code with the standard RUU Updater or SD card using imei-check's bootloader.

Original roms yes, you can flash them without worrying, but you'll have to re-run imei-check's unlocker everytime you want to flash your device with an original rom not matching your CID as CID unlock is not permanent (it disappears when you flash the radio).
As for custom/cooked roms, no, you'll have to worry about a) using HardSPL/SSPL or extracting the *.nb from NBH and flash from mtty, as it's the only way to flash unsigned code with imei-check's bootloader.

- imei check, as long as you replace the bootloader with a standard one before returning your device
- free unlocker, as long as you don't check the "superCID" option when you run it and you flash a standard radio back into it after SIM unlocking.

Depending on why you have to take it to service, but basically yes if it's working.

It will SIM unlock, but the CID unlock will only stay as long as you don't replace the RADIO after unlocking. If you flash another radio, then you'll need to re-run imei-check's unlocker again to have it CID unlocked again. And remember that for flashing a cooked rom you don't just need a CID unlocked device, but also need to bypass signature checking.

But it replaces the SPL on the device by a 1.01MFG SPL, so the warranty is technically void. And it also modifies the radio, but keeps the existing version.

Hi People
I am new to upgrading. Before I get the business of "you have not read the posts" I have read the posts. That's why I am writing here. The more I read, the more contradicting it is. I have the following:
T-Mobile MDA Unlocked SIM
IPL/SPL 2.26.0001
GSM 02.25.11
OS 2.26.10.2
I know this is a G4, but I have read that you can flash a ROM to an locked CID, but other areas say you cannot. I also have seen many different guides to flash, but some say the CID have to be unlocked others don't. I also have not seen whether the original ROM is saved in case you want or need to put it back. I have also read that you may have to input the GSM settings (I use Rogers in Canada). I bought this unit on eBay unlocked and all I had to do was put in my SIM card and it worked. Will the same happen if I upgrade the ROM? I find after reading so many threads it seems so confusing and was hoping someone here could help me out as you all seem to love flashing ROMs.
Thanks so much in advance,
Mike

hi,
ok,now let me try to explain in plain words,
1. U cannot for sure upgrade to a newer rom untill u r CID unlocked, now as u say u got ur wizzard from ebay.now it must have come with a pre-installed OS,plz check from which carrier it is from.If its Cid locked than it can only be upgraded with that official rom from which it came pre-installed with. But if u want to upgrade to some other wm6 cooked rom than u'll have to get it Cid unlocked.
now to upgrade,do the following:-
a)If u want to upgrade with official rom from which it came preinstalled, than visit the official site and download the official rom for ur exact device and upgrade without any Cid unlocking process ,its fairly self explanatory, how to upgrade with official rom as it comes with a self upgrade romutility.
b) if u want to upgrade to any other wm6 cooked rom, than i'am afraid u'll have to CID unlock ur device. As u say u have a G4 device there's a different procedure to Cid unlock it than G3.It's done with a utility tool called SHELLTOOL.search and read how to go about it.First download a tool "WST tool" by Mestrini ,install it and check if ur device is Cid locked or unlocked. If u find it locked than adopt the Cid unlock method through SHELL tool,if its already Cid unlocked than go ahead & flash with any wm6 rom.
As for ur question about sim unlocked, its different being from CID unlock.with sim unlocked u can put any carrier sim and use ur device. But with Cid unlock u can upgrade to any rom u desire.
Well, once SIM/CID unlocked it remains unlocked forever, unless u personelly don't lock SIM/CID.
Well,I believe if it came SIM unlocked, than it might be CID unlocked also.cuz all the carriers never give Sim unlocked.but than there might be some exceptions.therefore u must get it confirmed before any upgrade.
Hope I was able to clear some of ur doubts.goodluck

@zabardast_1 dude..
@Miker2006
Upgrading won't affect your Sim unlock status, it's permanent.
You don't NEED to CID unlock your phone to upgrade:
You can use Soft SPL to make the phone temporary think it's CID unlocked (while flashing).
Or you can semi-permanent let the phone think it's CID unlocked by Hard SPL.
This SPL will mimic a CID unlocked state, so you can flash all kinds of ROMs to your device.
BTW ShellTool WON'T cid unlock your device, Hard SPL is the closest you get to a Free CID unlock.
Best regards,
EquinoXe
PS. Read the stickies before Flashing, don't turn your wizard into a brick.
Actually it is a good show case that reading helps .. one day after his post Miker2006 did ..

I recently followed all steps to upgrade my phone wizard a9100 to wm6. It installed w/out problem. But when it boots it is still wm5. I downloaded various wm6 packages and it ends up the same way. I don't know what the problem is. The phone is a generic Qtek phone, not t-mobile or any other. Thankss!
Be sure that the phone is CID unlocked. If it's not and you keep on flashing you might kill the phone or criple it by not booting again into OS.
cheers
Thanks

If its CID locked it won't upgrade, first CID unlock the phone. If its a G3 follow this guide :-

But if its G4 read the SoftSPL or HardSPL method in the G4 forum posted as stickies.
Hi, I was just wondering if the method of flashing the Europe ROM to downgrade a 5.10.x.xx SPL could be safely used on a TMOUS phone without unlocking.
Thanks so much for the help, and by the way-I'm not a noob, and actually used to develop very popular Android ROMS. I just decided to move to XDA because of the lack of communication and inefficiency of almost all of the forums I've tried.

if you are referring to SLSPL by ansar, no.
if you have a NoDo restore from Zune, then try this here.
else, you might try this here.
That is what I was referring to, I thanked you, and thanks for the help! Does that mean it would be possible if I unlocked the phone first? I don't have a NODO backup and didn't have any success with the goldcard method, so I would rather just pay for an unlock or call T-Mobile (probably the latter) Thanks again.

to what unlock are you referring to..?
TMO can only SIM Unlock your device... that won't enable you to change Bootloader or install non-Marketplace apps.
I actually am referring to a SIM unlock. The thread tells about how two SIM unlocked TMOUS users were also able to use the same method. I was just asking if this SIM unlock was required, possibly because a Europe ROM would have to be flashed. Thanks again!

SIM Unlock isn't required to change ROM, only XSPL.
did i understand you correctly?
This is quoted from ansar's thread: "Update on 30.12.2011: Two TMOUS users did confirm that after SIM unlock it worked for TMOUS too!!"
The XSPL is what needed to be changed- downgraded from 5.10.x.xx
The method used to do this is flashing a NODO Europe rom with the lesser-versioned bootloader.
i haven't been following the development of SLSPL, but if that is the case, great.
though, i, myself, wouldn't attempt it.
best of luck to you.
