Hi.
I am a System Admin, as well as a member of a Rural Fire Brigade.
I need a way so that I can differenciate between different sources of SMS..
i.e. One contact is for missed pings to the servers - low priority, another is for servers down - higher priority, call out for the brigade - high priority and loud wake up tone
can anyone give me some advice on how to do this. I know I can do different ring tones for mobile calls but what about SMS contacts etc.
Many thanks for any help
Dave
I´ll need the same thing...
Once I used to have a sms chat software, but it corrupted messages often so I discontinued using it, I thing it was vito, but don´t remember
Well.. I don't know of any free solution for this.. but Electricpocket Ringo does this job very well.. it allows u to assing custom sms/ringtone to individual contacts and groups. No individual mms tone though..
maybe also magiccall will do what you are looking for
hey all~
i asked basically the same question recently. i was directed tot he freebie mortring, after fiddleing a lil (to make my own sounds work) i got it working pretty well

hey all~
so i found what, in my opinion, is the best FREE text message (and call) custom tones program....
its called oist (google it as i don't have the link handy) and it allows you to set custom tones (wav format only) for:
calls
texts from unknown senders
texts from everyone
texts from specific numbers
sent text message tones
it can also forward sent notifications to another number
anyhows i tested a few different ones and this seems to work best!
~j
Still playing around with it, but I think oist will work.
Now I just have to make WAV files for everyone.
I found this also but does not work on my wm6.5 touch pro... I have version 1.4
am I doing something wrong?

Hey...
I asked this question a while back in the PPC6700 forums when I had that device on WM5...never found an answer. I'm hoping something has changed in that time frame.
I want to be able to have audible alerts for incoming e-mail, but ONLY from specific senders. Using SMS is not an option.
So, for instance if I get an email from [email protected] it will ring an alarm (at 3am and wake me up) but if is an e-mail from anyone else it will stay silent.
Any way to do this, even if I have to purchase an additonal application?
thx!
I realize that its name, Photo Contacts Pro, is a bit misleading, but this is a very powerful/flexible program that will do exactly what you're looking for. Take a look at its incarnations at the vendor's website and decide for yourself -- there's alot there to read:

Thanks Mark,
Are you 100% sure that this application can do what I ask?
I looked on their website and their features list that you can assign distinctive Ring and SMS tones to different contacts. It doesn't mention anything about e-mail.
I would plan on using pocket outlook with push mail from an Exchange server...so I really think it would be the function of the mail client to differentiate one incoming e-mail from another. Maybe there is a more feature rich e-mail client that has this functionality?
If you have actually done what I have asked (distinctive alerts to specific EMAIL addresses), then I will download the demo and see what I can do...
thanks again!

Hate to disappoint but it will not do that. This software currently operates on incoming caller id (sms has that also) not email address. I did suggest the use of email to them in addition to sms so they may someday do some work on it but not now.
Although I don't currently know of anything that will do what you want (which doesn't mean it isn't available) you MAY be able to get around the limitation.
I would try having the exchange server fire out a short note or even a forward of the email to your phone's sms address. They all have the ability to get the email as sms albeit it would be chopped to 160 chars. Now, if you can identify the source of the incoming sms via caller id you can indeed use photocontacts by creating a special profile with silence being the default for all contacts except the exchange server forwards. This way the incoming sms will set off the alarm which will tell you to check your email.
Hey, better than nothing, no?
eh..yeah thanks NY... I was afraid of that answer.
What we did for our alerting system previously was have the alerts sent to the phone mail/SMS address and all other e-mails to our normal exchange. This way we would turn on SMS alerts and turn off e-mail. It does work, but not the ideal solution. It would be so simple to have this functionlity in pocket Outlook as a "rule" too bad they haven't gotten there yet!
thanks
having that kind of selection hasn't gotten that far yet, don't forget this is a pocket pc with phone capabilities

I'm aware of a couple of programs that will alert based on email sender, subject, etc. The first is Message Alerts, and the second is Watchflag. I've never used Watchflags before, but it looks pretty good. I used Message Alerts back when I had a RIM Blackberry. It worked perfectly.
Try also phoneAlarm V2.0 not 1.66 from http://www.pocketmax.net
This is a new option in V2.0
Beautiful guys thanks! All 3 look like they will do what i want (from description) I will try them out.
thanks again!
bengalih, thanks for the link. Question for you, did you ever try one of these programs? I guess my request is a little different than yours was in that I am not trying to notify by email address but simply by email account. So one notification for my Yahoo, another for my daughters and yet another for work. If one of these apps can accomplish this, then that would be great. Thanks again.
Email notification
This is only mildly related, but I want my new email notification to show the sender and/or subject line and not just "You have ## new email messages..."
I can't find any notification settings that would adjust this. Any suggestions?
All,
I have searched up and down using google and this forum, and all I have found is people with similar problems but no answers to these questions below:
1. Ring tones for contacts saved to the phone are easy, as is setting a single .mp3 to play for SMS messages, but all I really want is my default ring tones for contacts to play when they send me SMS messages. I know Ringo does this, but it crops my ring tones down. I don't want this. I want the full 3-8 minute song to play for a given contact whenever they send me an SMS message.
2. Why won't my current SMS ring tone stop playing on opening of a notification? No matter what it is, a stock 10 second clip or a 8 minute .mp3, it plays completely whether I have opened the phone or not. The equivalent of this would be you getting a call, answering the call, and as you are talking, your main ring tone is still playing. I don't know if this has to do with windows media player, which I have replaced with the audio manager, which is much better, but it is a huge hassle for the sms message ringer not stop once you've opened and are replying to an sms notification. I don't want to have to have my text messages just vibrate or have no sound at all. I want the whole .mp3 to play the ring tone for the specific contact unless I read or dismiss the notification.
I have looked into Ringo, Phonealarm, and Mobiedit, and none does want I want. Ringo crops my SMS alerts, but plays full .mp3s for incoming calls...It should be the other way around. Mobiedit wouldn't recognize any of my .mp3s. Phonealarm has a lot of nice features, but what I want is very specific.
Any registry hacks for this? Any cabs for this?
I want to thank you in advance for your answers and for all the wonderful information, tips & tricks, and downloads you offer.
Thank you,
Brian

Can anyone point me in the direction of another resource then?
PhoneAlarm WILL do this. You just have to set it up.
Really? Then I couldn't figure this out. Is there a difference between the trial version and the full version?
Thank you for your help and I will report back to see if I can get it to work.
phonealarm does indeed allow you to shut off the notification once you either dismiss or reply to it. I don't know if it is worth 30 bucks. Is there a way to get an 'answer on open' like function for sms?
It does not however, allow me to use my contacts ringers for their incoming text messages. Is there a registry tweak out there I can do to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
Call_SMS Blocker. I found this program the other day and I just wanted to share it with everyone. This app is amazing! I searched everywhere to find something like this. With this software you can COMPLETELY block both calls and sms. Also it will send an automatic sms on your behalf when your busy. Your probably saying, yeah well that new PowerSMS program can do auto sms replies. Well did I mention that this app not only sends auto sms replies to callers but also to friends who TEXT YOU!! I think I found only like 1 other app that could do that and it wasnt nearly as good as this one. Most other ones out there either only allow you to select "known numbers" or "unkown numbers" to reply to. Well with Call_SMS Blocker, you can totally customize the lists of people that will receive your auto reply. You can even make custom messages for each individual person instead of just 1 master message like many other apps.
The only bad things about this software though is that it does cost money and it is a little confusing on how to set it up. But once you figure this thing out it is very powerful and by far the best call blocker sms blocker and sms auto responder out there!
If anyone decides to get this app I would be more than happy to help you out with getting it up and running and figuring out the settings to do what you want it to do.
This was just one of the best apps I have found in awhile and I just wanted to let others know about it. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope this program can come in handy for others like it did me.
have you tried this on WM6? link says WM5
Yes it will work on WM6. I am using it on my stock Tilt WM6 pro and it works perfectly. See, under the Download/Buy section. It says its available for WM5/WM6.x
This looks brilliant - purchased
Right, purchased this yesterday and it's awesome.
I have an annoying issue with an alarm system (secom) at my workplace, and being a keyholder, I really can't be chewed with middle-of-the-night (false) callouts. Tried to use another app to set unknown numbers to use a silent ringtone, but that didn't help in the middle of the night because of the ensuing answerphone notification.
I don't like the thought of turning my phone off, or putting onto silent in case of real emergencies from people I care about D).
Anyhoo....
.. this app is perfect. Simulates an immediate 'hangup' to unknown numbers, effectively (a) stopping you hearing them call and (b) disallowing them the ability to leave an answerphone message.
*breathes*
*happy*
Right first off, I expect everyone to come in here and rage about me not reading around, yes can you have personal sms tones, drop then in the \Windows\ folder as a .wav etc etc. Thanks, but that's not what I'm after.
I'm curious as to if there is native or 3rd party support, of a program that will allow me to set different SMS tones for different people, much like the native support in the phone book/contacts for ring tones for various people.
Ideas, suggestions?
Hi,
Theres this program, i havent had much luck with it but you may have more luck than me:

Hi guys. This may sound prepostorous somehow lol. I am already diverting my voice calls from my s3 to another android device and now i would like to divert my sms messages also.
I've been reading a few things and i keep getting something about a gateway being needed or something along those lines. I understand ( i think ) the function of the gateway, but is there another way around them? Is there a way of diverting text messages from one android device to another without downloading free apps that don't work anyway or expencive apps that give you phone rage?
Oh, and i already know that text messages can be diverted to email addresses but it really would be neat is one can divert their sms messages from one android to another.
