Well, I don't actually want a power button to be honest, I want the power button action changed. I've lost count of the amount of times I have switched the phone off to go to bed and then accidentally touched the power button causing the phone to restart. Then I have to wait until it's booted-up before I can switch it off again. OK, I know I shouldn't drink so much that I become ham-fisted but in my defence, that brings its own - entirely unrelated - benefits.
What I want (knew I'd get there eventually) is to have to press the power button for like one second before the phone powers-up. I'm happy switching the screen on and off with a single short press, but if it already takes a long-press to switch it off, why can't it be a long press to switch it on? How hard can it be?
here you go: http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=1751
This will remap your power button on a long press and show you how to poweroff without it (see the comments there for the app)
I'm sorry but I don't think this is what I'm looking for.
Visualise: The phone is off (not the screen, the PHONE), properly switched off. I want to have to press the power button for at least one second to start the phone up. From what I was reading on your link, the button presses are only recognised when the phone is already powered-up.
You don't want the button to switch the screen off too? Otherwise I don't get it.

Don't think that's possible. Btw, you could always shutdown the phone by taking out the battery No need to wait for it to boot.

I bought my friend's Blue Angel with WM5 upgraded, and found that Power button is ok. I can turn on, soft reset or press to shut the light off, but cannot shut down Windows. I have to use software Spb Plus shut down button instead.
I thought if i down the rom to Win 2003SE, it should be fixed. But it's not. The Power button still has the same problem. I cannot shut down.
Please help, how can i fix this.
Thx.
What happens if you just press Power for short moment as you do with all other buttons and you wait a second?
When I pressed Power button for a moment, the light is off. But when I press and release, nothing happen.
Long press = turn off backlight, this is normal.
But after short press it should go asleep - maybe button is worn out slightly and youi just need to press is stronger?
and of course try hard reset before - if you can do it (it involves pressing reset!) means button is ok, and there is something else. Anyway if after HR still button doesn't work correctly, I have no idea what it can be.

Sorry my English is not good
I have the exact same problem, no I dea what has caused it?
The XDA will not power down any more.
I will try reflashing to see if this will rectify it.
I must admit altough many people have put an enormous amount of work into adapting WM5 rom to suit the Blue Angel .I have all but given up with the WM5 roms short comings (WiFi , Bluetooth ,Instability ect)
So its goodbye XDA2S and hello Nokia N95
Anyone can help? Please.
I have exact the same problem. I CAN NOT shut the device down by pressing (short) the power button. I have to use Spb-plus which has a "Shut down" icon shown on the Today screen to do the trick.
Is there any fix to use the power button on the device to do what it is meant to do?
Thank alot!
Maby this can help
Hi.
I had the exact same problem and have searched an read. no solution until last night.
My phone hung after some fiddeling with tomtom, and i popped the battery. i switched it on, and for some reason i decided to turn off the backlight during boot. So power on- wait 1-2 sec - hold power button until backlight goes off. the screen flashed a couple of times and then after boot had finnished it worked again. HORRAY.
Before this i have tried soft/hard reset ++ but nothing worked. so im really happy...
Give it a try, and let me know.. i know a lot of people have this problem.
wow mate...i dunnno how...but it seems it worked for me...thanks...
Hi guyz,
big problem with my Wings...
I've tried to install SPB Traveller, discovering that doesn't work (was the version for pda).
Then i've disinstalled it and, immediately after, i have no more possibility to press buttons. Only once.
To be more precise...
Switch off the phone removing battery, switch it on again, enetr the pin correctly and, after WM6 screenshot, i'm able to press buttons only once. Not depending from the button...i can pres Start or Contacts, doesn't matter.
After pressing once there's no evidence to have any other button depressed.
I would like to hard reset the phone but, hao can i do if i cannot press any button??
Which is right procedure for hard reset the S730??
There is some shortcut in way not to enter into WM6??
Thanks a lot.
With the phone off, press both softkeys (the ones right under the screen) and then press the power button to turn it on. After a second or so (basically when it starts booting up) release only the power button, but keep the other two pressed.
After a moment you should see a screen asking you if you want to hard reset (you may release the buttons now), press the Send buttont (the green one) and it'll do it.
Soft keys should be "Start" and "Contacts"...i suppose.
I tried many times, releasing Power button keeping softkeys still pressed, immediately after Smart Mobility screenshot....after displaying of radio version, rom version, etc etc.....but it doesn't work.
I think i'm wrong in some passage. Sure that this process works on S730??
Could you be more clear about it, please?
Which boot i have to take care of? Initial settings (radio, rom, etc etc) or Windows Mobile?
Many thanks.
Yep, those are the buttons. And this procedure does work on the S730, as I had to use it once to restore my phone.
The only advise that comes to my mind is to keep the power button pressed a little bit longer than usual, I believe that's what I did.
Hi guys
I have been trawling this and other forums for 2 days now with no success. I cannot for the life of me get the phone into bootloader mode. I am currently using one of NRGZ28's Roms if that helps.
I have tried about 15 times to do it. Each time, powering off device, taking out and re-inserting battery, holding down volume down key as well as the power button, but the phone continually boots as per normal.
I've also re Hard-SPL'd thinking that was the issue, but apparently not.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks
Try this...
If your phone is already turned on, go to Start>Reset
While it's turning itself off, hold down the power button and the lower volume button simultaneously (at the same time) and CONTINUE TO HOLD! It should then go into bootloader.
Or take the battery out, re-insert it. Push the power button and lower volume button down at the same time and CONTINUE TO HOLD!
The important step is that you have to CONTINUE TO HOLD both buttons at the same time. Not just press them together and let go.
Hope that helps.
Every time I have been holding them the whole way through, even still holding once I hit the today screen just in case. Tried doing it your method through restarting while holding both, and the second method you suggested is the way I've been doing it each time. Taking out battery, re-inserting it, pressing both buttons at the same time and holding, but it just continues to boot as normal. I have recently had to take my phone apart due to the slide-out keyboard playing up and now some buttons are a tad hit and miss, but I have verified while the phone is on that both volume keys and the power button work as per normal

Been using HTC phones and we all know the power button is an important hardware.
I was thinking can we RE-ROUTE the power button to other buttons, since hitting just the power button makes me feel pain and seeing it flattened day by day...
for my previous touch pro i use registry to re-route succesfully. i wonder some geniuses here can do the same job.... please anybody
I would also be interested in this if at all possible.
Singularity0821 made a "restart phone app" : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1333740
...with right argue you could convince him to add a shut down option...
out of curiosity...why you guys restarting your phone in the first place? Last time i restarted my phone was almost 1.25 months ago. Then recently when the HTC update was pushed out. besides that..i havent really had the need to hit the power button. How often do you guys power cycle your phone and why? issues? habit? Just curious..
lol , yes we are the crazy maniac phone restarter
It's useful when you want to apply reg hacks...
Also power button is crucial to reach all usb profils...
and clearly my hd7 power button is getting weaker too http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1359132
A restart app is one thing, which makes it a bit easier to not having to use the power button for that.
But I too am "suffering" from that power button issue and honestly.. you use the power button to not only restart the phone but also to wake it up and unlock it.
Now if the power button could be relocated (even if there has to be software for it) this would be really nice before my power button entirely dies!

totally right there. We had enough pain of this!!
Reroute to the volumes button n camera button,or maybe an app that can shake in a specific way to wake the phone.
Registry setting that can re-route the wake phone button?
9 out of 10 screenshots I take are by accident when I'm trying to press the power button to turn the screen off. With the volume buttons opposite the power button, it's too easy to press them. Is there a way to change how a screenshot is taken?
Enable the swipe gesture in advance features

That's already on, but the other way I'm talking about is still active.
Hold you phone differently, unless your hands are so monstrous that preventing your fingers from pressing the volume button is impossible.
Thanks for the Apple-grade suggestion like I've got bad reception on my iPhone. lol
Holding the phone as usual in my right hand, it's not typically a problem. But frequently if it's in my left or I do a quick reach with either to turn the screen on and view notifications and turn it back off, I end up with an accidental screenshot. If I could make it require a momentary hold of the buttons before it takes a screenshot, it would do the trick.

You could try installing a Bixby button remapper. Many of them allow you to set different functions to your hardware/mechanical buttons & or set delays of different intervals while keeping the current buttons doing the usual stock actions. If you are rooted you only need to install once. If you are stock UnRooted you need to run adb commands every time you turn off or reboot but this is the only option I can think of that will do what you need done. Bxactions is one app and another is button Mapper. Cheers & hope this helps you out.
