Backlight comes on with any incomming text message or email message

Hi I am running Ruu_Signed_Duttys_WM6.1_5.2.19700_Hybrid_V2_1_64.08.21_CubeV2 ROM.
And everytime I get an incomming text message or e-mail the backlight comes on.
This happens even after you put it into standby and none of the other buttons will wake it only the power button.
i think that is by default and if u want the phone to wake by pressing any key than u have to make that change under settings.
It should not do that, the last ROM I used did not have that issue. It may not be the ROM I would like to know if anyone else has this problem.
Hi everyone..is there really no way to disable the screen turning on when a text or e-mail comes in. When using a WM6.1 ROM, I have tried different ROMs and they all the doing the same. It seems this should be something that can be configured.
Any input from the experts...if not I will go back to WM 6.0
I didn't have it happen with L26 v4 ROM - it does with Dutty's and it does with Death v3. I have heard from others in those threads who say that it does not happen to them. Some have said that the BBCONNECT program 4.0.0.92 is the solution - I have not bothered to search for or try yet. For me , right now, the common thread seems to be AT&T based ROMs
Arghhhhh....I hate to step back into the dark ages but that issue really bugs me. Knowing that my phone is in my case and everytime and e-mail comes in the screen turns on for 10sec....that accounts for the my short battery life.....And I only want to run the ROM's from Dutty he does really great work....wish I knew half of what he does. I might be able to fix it myself...That then brings the question why certain ROM's an not others...
I will leave that question to the experts.
I think it does this because it is putting an alert notification on the screen... I disabled those on mine and they still seem to come on the screen!!
It's so annoying to have to deal with your emails and at the same time have to dismiss countless notifications!!!
Same annoying problem here.
WM 6.1, and every setting in 'sounds & notifications' fails to show results.
Whether I disable or enable the tone, the showing of a message, or the vibration.. no dice: it keeps waking up from standby mode.
i remember some else asking this question as welll... and i think someone was talking about changing something in the the registry, but i am also interested in this. it would come in handy when i have to put my phone in standby for a long time.
bump
I too have this same issue. I've had my new ROM for several months and love it, but I would like to know how to stop the backlight from turning on everytime an email is received.
It never used to do this, however I am pretty sure the backlight always came on for new text messages.
I can deal with the text messages. However, I run blackberry connect for my work email. Having the backlight come on for each email obviously kills the battery life.
I know if can be disabled as it was before. The question is how? Is there a registry setting?

By the sound of it, I'm guessing you've gone to
Settings->Sounds & Notifications->Notifications->Messaging: New text message
and changed the settings there?
Dunno if this is what you are experiencing but sms' come through slow on my Telstra Diamond (with 3 sim). I can see the phone wake up then I wait 10-30 secs for the beep etc or sometimes the message will not even arrive and the phone will go back to sleep.
The thing is, I thought I got rid of this problem when I sold my Palm Treo (another unlocked telstra handset) with WM6. So either it is a 3 network using telstra handset or wm6 prob.
I'm not too bothered as I only miss a few sms' and people usually call to ask why I didn't respond.
Same problem here. Using Dutty 2.3a ROM, and 05 radio.
Any possible solutions gratefully received!
Could it be the same bug I experienced yesterday? Try and go to Settings -> Sound - then check that the Volume slider (at the bottom) is all the way to 100% - mine turned to 0% automatically the other day. (Either that, or I did it friday when I was out, drinking)

Delayed Notifications in Cooked ROMS..

Hello,
I've been having a problem with a few of the custom builds (Timor, AthineOS, CellPro Evo), and one problem I've noticed with each of the ones I've used is that when I get a text it doesn't notify until I wake the screen back up. Once I do that it vibrates and rings, but its up 30min after I got the text. Is this a known problem with a fix or am I better off sticking with a stock ROM?
Thank You
Funny you mention this, because I'm having the same problem. I thought it may have been a tweak I'd done and was going to do a hard reset today.
The only cab I've installed is Microsoft MyPhone. And had to edit the reg to allow the changing of the notification light timing in the Sounds & Notifications settings.
Do you know if this happens before you've made any changes to settings or installed any software on the phone? I don't recall having any problems like that myself with Timor installed, but I'm also not sure I received a text in that time. I haven't tried the other ROMs you listed.
It seemed to happen after I edited the reg settings.
Doesn't seem to be a constant occurance though. I happened to me 12 hours ago, even after a soft reset. But now I just sent a test message to myself, and all is ok... weird
Well I've regularly installed My Phone, Marketplace, Bing, Groovefish, and MP3 Trimmer, but I'd rather not delete and hard reset everything to do a test if someone knows a fix
I haven't had this issue...I am using the Valkrie Firestorm 5 and even when my phone is sleeping my phone vibrates as I get SMS messages and emails...
Well I have hard reset and held off installing using the My Phone. Everything seems well with recieving on time...but now the screen turns on everytime i get a message. It didn't used to do that and I find it quite annoying..I looked around my settings and Advanced Config and couldn't find anything.
It happens in the stock HTC rom too.
It normally doesn't happen if you come out of the text messages and go back to the home screen after you reply to someone. It's a really annoying bug
Me too...
I thought it was the result of all the hacking, tweaking and breaking I've been doing on this flash since I've been using it as a "scratch pad" but the problem you are all describing sounds identical.
I will also second the Home screen suggestion. Hit 'End' after you are done messing with the phone to go back to the Home screen. There is definitely a notification bug related to not alarming/vibrating when not on Home screen.
Though I have observed this issue, this does not completely explain my problems. Sometimes I don't actually even receive the SMS or MMS until the next day or after rebooting my phone! Most of the time it's fine though. I'm going to do a clean flash and see if that gets rid of that issue.
Same Here
I have run across the same problem with a number of the cooked ROMs. I never really noticed the problem with the stock ROM though. In my experience some of the cooked ROMs are having a problem handling the text messaging. I have over 3000 text msgs in my backup and as soon as I try to view an older text, the systems tend to lag and freeze up to the point that I need to soft-reset. Im using Athine right now and so far it has handled the text msging just fine without freeze or lag, but it also seems to have the same notification delay bug that the other ROMs have.

Yeah I'm familiar with that bug. But I go back to the home screen 99% of the time then shut the screen. I'll get a message and the LED will start blinking, but only when I turn the screen back on will it ring and vibrate.
Same problem here with the cell pro rom

I have the problem with almost all of the ROM. Does anyone know if it could be a result of not using the right radio?
I could be wrong.. but I don't think it has anything to do with the radio. There doesn't seem to be any problem is receiving the message from the carrier, it's more-so the OS not notifying. This has only happened to me since trying the new WM 6.5.5 builds with Sense 2.5. Previous to these builds I have never had any issues, and only used EnergyROM with a COM2 build, and Sense 2.1

Im not sure about all the technical stuff your talking about...I just know that on almost every ROM I flash, when the phone goes to sleep, they seem to not do anything. Its only when I wake it up do I receive text messages, notifications and the weather doesnt update on its own in the prescribed time its supposed to according to the settings I have selected.
The radio version may affect the quality of your reception. So if you have no reception then that will obviously delay texts getting through, and stop you being able to get to the weather servers. But I can't see why it should have anything to do with delayed notification of texts that are already on your phone.
I realise this might not help you much, but on my EnergyROM (see my signature for full details), my phone gets texts fine when it's asleep.
The weather isn't designed to get automatically updated when your phone is asleep though. There was a recent thread on how to change the registry to make it do so, if you haven't done that then your weather stuff may well be acting correctly.

Awesome...thank you so much for the information and help
This is the thread about getting weather to update automatically - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585373
WHY DONT YOU JUST USE A ENERGYROM????? I dont have any issues with those roms and i just updated to the .88 radio. no issues as of yet.

[Q] Lock Sounds Distorted - How can you fix?

Howdy
I used to love the lock sounds of WP7 - the little drip is way cool
now though, when I lock my phone it is a robotic noise, I guess somehow the sound file has become corrupted. I havent attempted to faff around with the rom or anything, so who knows how its happened.
Does anyone have any idea how to revert the lock sounds back to what they should be?
Also - I've tried turning it on/off again a few times - no luck
And I'd rather save my text messages etc so I'd rather not flash something, shame it doesnt sync sms to live? (or does it)
Cheers guys
Any ideas at all guys?????
Mine did this, I had to hard reset.
Fantastic :/ do we have a way of backing up our SMS/camera etc yet?
Reset only works for a little bit for me.
Its mostly my incoming mail sounds. Its all distorted like its not using enough CPU to play the MP3

[CM7] Softkeys turns on when receiving SMS ?

Hi Guys!
I got a Galaxy S I9000B to replace my Galaxy Ace. As soon as I got it I flashed it with the latest CM7 nightly. I know there is CM9 and 10 for this phone but I had CM7 also on my ACE and I definitely love this rom and GB.
So far everything is great, this an old but really good piece of phone.
Anyways, I noticed something that on my ACE with CM7 didn't happen.
Everytime I have my phone locked (not using it) and receive a SMS text, besides notificating me with the ringtone and vibrate, the softkeys turns on and keep that way until I press the home button. I didn't wait much than 4 or 5 minutes, it might be some kind of notification that this CM7 has for the I9000B, and it might turn off if I wait more but I didn't try that yet. Also it might be a bug, I don't know.
The question is, do you guys know if this is normal ? It it does, do you know if there is an option to turn this option off or at least configure the time the softkeys are turned on ?
Thanks!
It is perfectly normal for your phone to do this:
The Galaxy S lacks a notification LED so the softkey LEDs are used to show unread messages or other notification.
Since I've never used CM7 I can't tell you if there is any option to change the duration, maybe someone else knows more about that.

Thanks dude! I was hoping to be normal since I didn't want bugs hehe.
I was kind of surprising since I have never experienced this behavior with my previous Galaxy ACE (which don't have any notification led either).
If anyone owns CM7 with this phone I would really appreciate if I can get some advise on this. Is there anyway to configure the time out for it or to disable it ? I have just received a text message and let the phone alone without touching the home button for 17 minutes and the lights were still there
Thanks!
