Hi, I am trying to transfer some received MMS text messages to my desktop computer for longer term storage. I want the entire text message including "meta-data" such as sender, time sent, etc.
I can't simply forward the messages because for some reason the Forward command is greyed out on the menu. I can't find the folder structure where the messages are stored on the phone -- likely sounding folders like "Messaging" don't seem to contain these messages.
Does anyone know where the Windows 6.1 OS stores text messages and if they are in a format that can be copied via USB to a desktop machine?

I just rebooted, and now my text messages are gone! There's no "text messages" tab under messaging, and if I select a number and hit "send text message" nothing happens. Now there's an "IPM.root" folder in outlook express instead. Everything else seems fine. Any ideas?
What other software do you have installed out of curiousity?
I had a similar issue except that i didn't lose my text messaging, i lost ALL messaging. As in, I hit the button, clicked the icon, nothing happened. I ended up installing Pocket Informant as my default PIM and for messaging I installed Flexmail 2007. They are not free, but I like them a lot. One of the things I like about Flexmail is the pop/imap only works if the program is running. So if I'm sitting at my computer at work I can close Flexmail and not get redundant emails. Text messaging works as normal.
I never figured out why my messaging disappeared and found no explaination from anyone here. I've tried different ROM's, different software.

Do you have the option "store mail attachments on memory card" ticked?
If so, that's the problem.
It happened to me few times while using two memory cards, all you have to do is delete the folder with mail attachments on the card, uncheck the box, soft reset and check the box again( if you want), problem solved.
I did a hard reset last week and decided to give the standard messaging a shot. So far so good, and now that you mention it, I don't have the "Store attachments on memory card" option checked. It's been almost a week and I haven't lost my messaging.
Thanks for the heads up. Now it just pisses me off that I spend $45 on flexmail and pocketinformant when i really didn't need to.
So if it will happen again try to take out the memory card, soft reset, and put it back AFTER IT STARTED - that also worked
I really don't see a need for third party messaging application, the original is good enough.
The only thing that annoys me is unablity to copy-paste text between Messaging and any other programs, for example writing an email in Pocket Word then copying it and pasting to blank email to send it as a text, not word doc.
Does not work for hermes 200

I tried what you recommended but I still do not have text messaging as an option under my message selections. I only have outlook email, MMS, IMAP4 and yahoo. Somehow I have managed to loose the text message selection folder. Do you know of anything else that I can do? Thanks
Are there any apps out there that allow for rule-based management/organization of SMS messages?
Specifically, I'd like to have a whitelist of users that can send messages that conform to some rule, which triggers some sort of event. Ideally, I'd like to be able to somehow parse the SMS message to add data to another program on the phone (or for simplicity's sake, add an entry to the task list). I figure if the program I'm looking for can simply export the message as a file to a directory on the phone, I can easily write a quick and dirty little app that simply monitors that directory for new files, parses them, puts the data where it needs to go, and then deletes the file.
I've read about SMSOrganizer/SMSCreative, but was hoping someone out there knew of some other options I haven't yet discovered. Oh yeah...and if the solution's free, then all the better!
Hi Guys,
Great forum with loads of useful info!
I have a query and was wondering if anyone could help me. I want to transfer my SMS's off my phone to my computer. Is there anyway of doing this (to a txt file etc)?
Is there anyway of having the thread conversation displaying all messages between you and the other person instead of having to press "older", if so, i could "copy all" and paste on to an email?
Any help much appreciated.
bump!
Want to do this too, nobody knows if its possible?

Hi,
there's a software called VITO SMSChat. There you can backup your messages. SMSChat creates a html file. That should be readable with a normal browser but I didn't test it.
Another useful software for backing up text messages is Jeyo Mobile Companion.
CU
check out dashwire.com. not a backup in the sense that you have a file on your computer but in a way better because it can auto run in the background to always stay in sync online. plus it does way more than the sms info
I have been exchanging tons of SMS messages with a bunch of my friends. HTC Diamond does a good job of displaying the messages chronologically that i would have exchanged with a specific person if i tap on his/her name. However, it restricts the number of messages shown and i need to keep tapping on Older... again and again to see the older messages.
Is there a way that i can copy/download/save the entire SMS conversation i've had with a specific person? I don't want to copy/paste text manually into a file as it would take ages. Any tool/utility/application that exists to facilitate this ...preferably freeware !
Thanks
MyPhone can sync all of your text messages
Hi,
I have a problem when I try to mark and copy text from the default sms app. On a long press on text inside sms message the brakets are not showing up and the whole message is selected and coppied when clicking on file icon. Is there a way to make the brakets show up in the sms app so I can mark the text I want to copy?
Note that this problem is only related to sms app, because in Chrome selecting text works as expected.
Nobody?!
That propably has to do eith Google messages app. Try using another app.

I'm using the android messages app and I can copy from it?
Selective text doesn't work, try textra..
Textra is not working either with selective text copying. It also selects the whole message and I cannot mark the text I want to copy. Any other suggestions?
It was caused by huawei update

My phone updated this morning with all new logos and interface. It looked better but copy and paste is all messed up. Just gives me the option to autofill. But you can't autofill the copied text. It works with some websites but not within the huawei apps like sms messages and calls etc.
