Hi guys, I am using Dutty's 4 ROM and I noticed that whenever a new MMS comes in for my Diamond, there will only be a short beep once and thats all. Even thought I have set the ringtone for new MMS and I can hear it when I press the play button, when a real new MMS comes in, only a beep is heard.
Anybody have any solution? Thanks.
Check settings...
First, just check your settings. For MMS there are two notification tones... 'New MMS received' and 'New MMS downloaded'. Make sure you've set tones for both. If this isn't the issue, post in Dutty's ROM forum and ask the man himself - you may not be the only one with this issue
I had the same problem. Set both the received and downloaded notification to the same tone as suggested and it works ;-)
Thanks!

Hi all.
How can I assigne a ringtone to incoming SMS or MMS? Right now my kaiser does nothing when I receive a SMS/MMS. The amber led blinks and that's it..
I tried PhoneAlarm, but it seems I can't get it to work. I assigne a ringtone to new SMS, but when I receive one, it does nothing..
Is there another app to manage profiles, besides phonealarm (and free)?
Thanks!!

Hi,
I'm not sure if anyone here can give me a hint on this, but here goes. I flashed my TyTN II with Dutty's 6.1 ROM a while back. I'm not sure if it's related, but for some reason my phone stopped playing the notification sound for when a text message is received.
In Settings > Sounds & Notifications, however, on the Notifications tab the "incoming text message" event is wired up to a sound just fine. Similarly, on the Sounds tab I have Events, Programs and Notifications all checkboxed.
Do you any other reason why this event wouldn't fire or why it doesn't play the notification sound?
Have you installed, or are you using Palm SMS?
There is a seperate option in Sound and notifications for Incoming Message (Palm SMS). You may need to change this to something else and then back again to get it to stick.

First of all, there is a thread about this rom, in which this problem is explained and solved at least 3 times, it's really not hard to search instead of making another thread that is just cluttering space for no useful reason.
If you disable the Microsoft Voice Command, your SMS sound will go back to a proper working order, you can do so In Start-->Settings--> MSVC
I think his question is legitimate. I have exactly the same problem and have also not found any solution in the more than 180 sides of the Dutty thread. And thanks for your hint with the Voice Commander. I tried it also but it still does not work.
Yeah, sorry. Didn't want to clutter up the forum with something that has already been covered. However, I don't even know if this is related to Dutty's ROM, but one seems to expect so. Searching for this problem has also proved a bit difficult. I just don't get any usable results.
I have not installed Palm SMS, unless it's installed on Dutty's ROM. However, I don't think so.
Furthermore, I don't believe I have Microsoft Voice Command, neither. As far as I can tell, it's commercial speech recognition software by Microsoft, and not standard with Windows Mobile 6.1.
I'll go through some of the many pages on the Dutty thread to see if I can find more information.

Have you installed any other software? Any registry tweakers like Kaiser Tweak etc? Dutty's ROM has AdvancedConfig installed by default. You may want to check the message settings in that.
Well, yes, I installed a ****load of applications. One could of course be the cause of all this, but I simply don't have any idea. AdvancedConfig has three messaging options:
- SMS sent notification: Disabled
- SMS delivery notification: Disabled
- SMS Unicode support: Enabled
Somehow SMS delivery notification doesn't sound like it's about incoming SMS messages, but it's strange that there is one for sent and delivery. So I'll enable that and see what happens.
Running low on ideas...but...
I take it all other sounds do work? If not try a new Radio.

Some time ago I had a similar problem. In settings/notification.... in the box for New text message there is a option to play to file. Even if I clicked the play, it didnt play the ringtone. Later after a hardreset I realized that it was someway connected to audio manager and playing wav files. The audio manager was not able to play the wav files. Maybe the file was not associated with the player. Just my two cents.
Alright, success! After setting SMS delivery notification to Enabled in AdvancedConfig, I tested it out. And there was both sound and vibration, too (which it didn't before neither). So I suppose that setting was the culprit, although I have no clue why it got set to Disabled. Also, I am amazed that apparently this really pertains to incoming text messages instead of messages I sent out.
Mikulec: I had some problems with ringtones before. Once it didn't want to play custom ones any more. Since I flashed my ROM, I never really figured out why it did that, but maybe it was because of some media player I had installed that took over some file associations. Who knows.

This setting is just for notifying u that the message u have sent was delivered. This shouldnt be tha cause.
But I am glad it works now.
This is annoying, then. It works now, but I'd like to know what fixed it. I did a few different things over the course of trying to fix my problem, of course, but nothing that I thought would be The Solution.
On top of this, I don't get a delivery notification for messages that I have sent after toggling that setting, so it appears to be not working correctly.
I suppose sometimes you just have to not ask questions and move on...
Thank you!
Thank you very much! After much time in searching, I've also didn't realized that is because of Advanced config. Now it's really works!
As above, delivery notifications would normally be a delivery receipt for messages that you've sent - when enabled you'll get a message from 'System Administrator' telling you when the SMS you sent was delivered to the receipient.
If enabling that has solved your problems, great. One thing to note though if you are getting receipts is that sometimes networks charge for these delivery receipts, and these generally won't be included in any allowances for SMS/calls etc. with your subscription.
In the UK I know Orange charge 0.9p for each one they send to you. ...My orange bill was £623 last month and one of their suggestions to reduce it was to turn delivery reports off. When I'd stopped laughing we agreed that wasn't really going to contribute too much!

Rob.
Hi,
I had the same problem with my Touch HD (Blackstone). I change cooked ROMs a lot, and sometimes I don't have sounds in notification area (new SMS, new e-mail, etc...).
I use the Free Mp3 Wma Converter to convert all mp3's and wav's to wma format. After that, just transfer wma files to the /Windows directory on Your device, pick sounds in "Sounds & Notifications" and it should work It's just that easy
ok, i have used search and skimmed through 14 pages of results and i don't know what has happened but i can't get any notifications for sms. i still get vibrations and rings from phone calls but i get nothing from sms. i have checked the settings, sounds and notifications, etc tab. i have downloaded and installed schaps advancedconfig and it didn't help. i haven't changed anything before this. i have a stock rom/radio. i haven't installed any new programs or changed any settings in forever and as of today i can't get a vibrate to save my life.
please help if you can.
thanks in advance

I had a problem just like this, i believe. It was because i had set the SMS notification sound as an MP3, i think if it's set as something that's not a default tone. After a while i would get no sound for SMS notifications. i couldn't find anyone else with the problem, and the only fix I've found is to just set it back to a defualt tone. Then you should get the sound back, and vibrate too.
I am having the same problem. Haven't found a solution yet.
i wish that would help but i have never changed the notification sound. it is still set to the AT&T default. :'-(

i know you have said you havent changed settings however have you disabled threaded sms?
I like the original poster are running the stock rom which is not wm 6.1, so no threaded sms.
haven't disabled threaded, haven't changed the notification, haven't installed new proggies, havent changed any settings what-so-ever. i got my phone where i liked it around 2 months ago and i haven't changed anything since. and this started happenning yesterday. :'-(
your'e not alone
*bump*
How can this happen to only a handful of phones? There has to be more people with this problem.
check sounds and notifications and sounds tab and make sure BOTH of the first check boxes are checked. i disabled events once thinking it was just the bleep sound from windows and turns out it includes messageing but not phone rings. I was in the same situation for months stumped on this lol
still checked..... :'-( i want my notifications back. lol
Since i have installed the official WM 6.1 ROM i have no SMS sound.
The sound settings are correct. (vibrate, play sound, show light and show on display).
Nothing works, i only see in the htc homeplug tab that i have a sms.
The seccond thing that when i recieve a sms that my Tytn resumes from standby, so i call everybody.
Anyone a solution?

i struggled with this problem for days.
when you turn off threading, you will hear no sound, vibrating or other notification.
i found a way to use the function and also show sms in the "old" not threaded style.
now my phone rings and vibrates on new text messages. hallelujah!
i edited my registry with "Schapp's registry editor"
first i changed the "SMSAvailable" value to "1":
["HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings]
name="SMSAvailable" value="1" datatype="integer"
i don't know why but it is required for notification sound and vibrating again
now i wanted to have my messages in the "old", not threaded style.
for this i created an new key "/OEM" with following value:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\OEM]
Name: SMSInboxThreadingDisabled
With: dword, 1
after editing my registry i did a soft-reset. not sure if necessary
yeah! now i have my text messages shown in "old style" and notification works fine.
You are the MAN!
Thanks usukk, it worked perfectly for me!!
cheers
This is a quite old thread, but I searched for it for weeks...
YOU are the one The one who made my SMS ring
Thanks a lot. One problem less on my To-Do-List.
Greetings
Hellmachine
So i just got my Diamond 2, and it's great and all.
One annoying thing though, is that when i receive a SMS/text when the phone is 'sleeping',
the phone does not notify me by sound/vibration/LED blinking.
Often i have to wake the phone up manually, and first THEN the phone notifies me by sound/ring.
changing the SMSWakeUp setting in the registry helps,
but then it's wakes up unlocked (with CSDEVCTRL installed, other apps don't lock perfectly), which is a big annoyance.
Has anyone else experienced this problem, and maybe have a solution?
Regards.
Goto "Settings --- Sound ----- Advanced ----- Notifications ----- Event ---- New Text Message" and disable "Play Sound".... then "ok" for exit.. Then repeat this for enable sound for "New Text Message" and change default message tone..
This works for me.. Never missed message after this "weird" settings..
Doesn't work, thanks for the advice though
For the "New Text Message" event, just untick "Display Message" and it will wake up locked, play sounds, and flash the LED
This has been mentioned on other threads, quite a few people including myself are having the same problem and it doesnt appear to be a settings issue.
On about 50% of received messages all i get is the green light flashing, when the phone is woken the text alert sounds.
This used to happen on every message, a hard reset improved things but its still not perfect. I send and receive a lot of SMS messages and its really annoying not to be notified when i get replies.
Maybe this will be addressed in a firmware update.
Sorry, forgot to mention that I have also changed the SMSWakeUp registry key. I've had no problems in about 2 weeks with SMS since

For those who are interested, more info on this can be found here.
Thanks, gonna read that.
I've enabled SMSwakeup and installed Pocketshield (slidelock only) as a temporary solution.
