Hi, everyone. I recently got my touch pro and was ready to transport my pdf files over from my Dell Axim. When I tried the reflow option on the Adobe Reader, all I got was a blank screen. Whenever I tapped "reflow" under Tools/View, the page counter would start flipping (for ex. 1/379 to 2/379 and so on) but it never reaches the last page. I assume that means that the reflow never completed formatting the entire book and that is why I got a blank screen. Does anyone know what I can do? In the past, I have installed Adobe Reader Pocket PC 2.0 on my Dell Axim. Everytime I add a pdf files, my desktop automatically reflow my entire file as it is copied into my memory card. Whenever I opened the file in my axim, the text is automatically reflowed. Obviously this does not happen with my touch pro. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help given.
I found something called the FoxIt reader. It reflows acrobat files. It's not free, but there is a trial period.

You'll find some cabs for the Adobe Acroba reader 2.5 (not LE) in many roms that provide separate cabs for additional aplications.

Having just received the phone, I must say that first impressions were great, well designed and seems well built. However, there are some rather disappointing observations:
First: Has anyone tried to record phone calls using one of the many different 3rd party software. It seems the only way to record the other person voice is to turn on the speaker, and this is really ridiculous.
Second: having loaded several word documents, upon opening the, it takes sometimes a minute or more to open, on my Treo, this is done in only a few seconds
Third: the system seems to slow down with repeated use, (a long secession).
Has anyone else found these problems? Also, is there any known work around for recording phone conversations?
I'll leave someone else to talk about the recording calls bit - not something I ever need to do.
On the word documents - I wonder how large these files are that you are opening? Mine are open in a second or two but then they are generally only a couple of pages long. Also the Kaiser uses the latest docx format of MS Word 2007 and I wonder if the older .doc format is being converted as it's opened. Docx is not backward compatible if you try to open Kaiser docx docs on PC using pre Word 2007 then they will not open. You have to save on PPC in RTF format if you are in this situation.
On the slowing down during a long session - I do not find this and I wonder if you have HTC X-button set to close applications or just to minimize them (ie that you are accumulating running applications?)

I find very big slow down opening large doc files and also scrolling them. On the Vario II (WM5) it was so much quicker.
Does anybody knows the reason why, or can resolve?
Word files
thank you for the reply
The Word files are from a Mac, running: latest-Office 2004. The documents are from 20 pages to 100 pages. They are saved as Word.doc files.
I also own a Treo 700P. The same mentioned files, using (Documents to go) will open in less than 15 seconds.
The same files open on the Kaiser: from 1 to 2.5 minutes.
Here is something interesting. I also own a HP (processor Intel PXA250, running (Pocket 3.0.1). This device will open the same douments very close to the Treo times.
Any suggestions?
I just had a friend send me a .docx to my PC running word2003, it prompted me to download a converter plugin. After installing the plugin, word now converts docx to doc's. I do wonder if the kaiser is doing the reverse as mentioned and converting from doc to docx and grinding on that?

Yes, it's interesting though and I wonder whether this issue may be the same one as with PIE scrolling. Perhaps related to the way it's caching data. For example and it may be the same in word - as you scroll it is fast until you go beyond the first couple of screens the really slows down. Using Touchflo (yes I'm getting the hang of it!) it is smoother but I'm a stylus man. Another possibility that occurs to me is that it may be the Touchflo app. that ironically slows down the stylus scrolling and indeed maybe the Word loading? Yet to find a registry way to stop Touchflo to test this theory.
So that's a few things to look into:
Stopping Touchflo
Doc to docx conversion
Increasing cache sizes
Identifying what has changed compared with TyTn (Hermes) as PIE and Word, appear (in contrast to almost every other application) to be slower than Hermes. (I'd 100% still rather have the Kaiser though for overall performance - still no unwanted soft resets and no hard resets required after 4 weeks!!)

convert from doc to docx
So, If I have a file created in Office 2004 (Mac) which defaults as (.doc), how can this be converted to a (docx)?

Fred just thought but did you change the settings on your htc task manager to close programs vs minmizing them (did not see this addressed in your reply) keeping apps running will have a dramatic impact on word load times.
Word docs opening slow
Sorry for the delay with the reply. Yes, all the other apps were closed while running Word. I guess the question is, why can a Treo open these docs faster than the Kaiser?
I spoke to an HTC service center and they commented that my unit was not responding as it should. When I mentioned the screen refresh rate seemed to lag, they said; send it back, so I did. I am now waiting for the replacement.
I will let you know the results.
thank you

Change EnableScroll to 0 to disable touch flo
A reboot may be required.

Folks.. there is no need to use .docx format if you do not have Office 2007. Word mobile can save documents as .doc. Open Word Mobile and go to Menu -> Options... and select Word 97-2003 fom the "Default Template" drop down.
Now it will save your documents as standard .doc.
slow word docs
Well all is well. I just received my replacement phone, and all the docs open in seconds. By the way, with the first one, I did do several hard boots, and that did not help. thanks to all that helped.
problem persists
I still have the problem with the extreeeeeeemely slow scroling in ie and other documents
Its getting very annoying!
I created a form with fillable boxes in acrobat 7, and I can read it on my
tilt, but cannot enter the data into the boxes.
Anyone have a clue if the pocket version of acrobat will let you do anything other than look at a file?
Mainly because your using an acrobat reader it only views pdf files and doesnt create or modify them
is there such a version which would allow you to "fill in the blanks" on the form I created with acrobat?
Hi, Has anyone else expereinced problems using MS Reader on the Kaiser? It loads and activates OK and lists books in library. When a book is selected it goes off to open it and never succeeds - it just seems to display it's little whirly-gig thingy and the only way out seems to be a soft reset? Any help out there please?

1m,, welcome to xda-devs
2. just dump MS Reader. Use something better (I recommend Mobipocket Reader) and use ConvertLIT to convert your LIT files to their native formats.
Mine works fine. Have you tried to unistall, soft reset, then reinstall?
Hi
Does anyone know how to store documents and PDFs to the HD7? I can create documents on the phone but not transfer anything from my old HD2.
People on other threads mentioned skydrive, but I can only find an option to load photos there.
We need Dropbox !
I think for now the only way to work with the storage of docs is via SharePoint
Ian
I was wondering how to go about doing this myself!
I little testing later and here are some options that worked:
Ahem!emailthemtoyourselfAhem! This does work and you can save the files to your phone after downloading the attachments (by default the attachments weren't download when the email was synced).
How WP7 does this is quite different to Windows desktop or Windows Mobile 6.5. Clicking on the attachment in the email will only open it; a long press does nothing. If it's a word file, there is then there is the option to 'save as' which allows you to modify the file name should you wish but only allows you to save to 'Office Hub'. Once you do this, the file is added to the second pivot list or column in the Office Hub (‘Documents’).
Note: Adding further office files such that the list will no longer fit on the screen will make the list vertically scrollable.
Skydrive and Office Live seem to be fully functional using the included WP7 IE browser. I was able to browse through my Skydrive files and folders and was even able to create and edit a new word document - all from within the browser.
Downloading an individual file takes a bit of careful finger work – just clicking on it automatically opens the file or folder but if you long press (which brings up the ‘open in new tab/share’ dialogue) and then click again in an empty part of the screen to hide the popup again, it will only highlight the file (as mousing over would do on the PC). This then allows you to select the more > download options.
The best and least pain free option for transferring files from Skydrive is to simply put everything you want on your phone in one Skydrive folder and use the ‘download folder as zip’ option. This method allows you to then open and save each individual file in the zip to the Office Hub. The limitation of this method is that the zip file doesn’t appear to be saved locally – it appears to open in the browser and only lets you open each file individually.
Note: It looks like currently there is no way to ‘save’ a pdf file on the device apart from as a downloaded email attachment. Hmm, not ideal if you like looking at large pdfs!
Each WP7 app has it's own isolated storage area. Unfortauntely, apps cannot acccess storage space belonging to other apps. The only exception here so far seems to be the Pictures storage; many apps can read and write to this.
I would expect in future OS updates we will have better access to shared storage areas (well hopefully).
The solution I've been using for now is Dropbox. I upload my PDF files there, then navigate to http://m.dropbox.com in IE. Use your WiFi of course. When you tap on a file in your dropbox it will open in Adobe Reader.
Later on, if you open Adobe Reader from the app list then you will have access to previously downloaded PDFs. Simples!
In the next software update they are going to bring skydrive into the office app.
Has there been any advancements yet?
It does seem silly that I don't have a documents folder or indeed that WP7 doesn't mirror my computer architecture.
Am uploading my PDF's to drop box, once i've accessed and opened them from my phone, am I then able to save them on to the storage card?
How the hell do I get a PDF on to my HD7?
I've tried emailing it to myself. I see it in hotmail, but every single time I attempt to download it, it fails.
I tried Dropbox. I see it in the browser, but no option to save.
I uploaded it to Skydrive, again, I see it but no option to save, only 'open in new tab' and 'share'.
This is utterly ridiculous, only MS could take a task as simple as saving a PDF to a device and turn it into a nightmare.
I'm usually quite apt with computers, this has me completely stumped though.
Are you sure the PDF file is not corrupt? Do you even have Adobe Reader installed?
Picking a random smallish PDF file:
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/standard-tube-map.pdf
Entering that into IE on the phone downloads it, and offers the option to view it.
Having viewed it, it now appears in the Adobe Reader app. Long press on the filename gives me the option to delete it.
The same goes for skydrive (accessed through IE), and if I email the PDF file to myself.
Although the methods previously suggested might work, and they do with several limitation, I wouldn't advise them as they will either leave your files lost in the middle of hundreds of e-mails or pile your office hub in a completely unorganized fashion.
My solution is much better; simply create OneNote notebooks, organized anyway you see fit, insert your files and sync them to SkyDrive.
When you sync them with your WP phone you will have your pdf files organized and always available.
Cheers

Brilliant. I shall have to try this.
I will say that mobipocket reader is one of my favorite apps on my WM 6.5 phone. The ability to highlight text, annotate, and the organization of all of that thereof makes this program super legit. I think the files that it creats are .prc files. My question is : Are there any mobipocket like appz for android? I use officesuite which does well for a .txt reader but it doesnt offer the perks of Mobipocket. Thanks if you have any suggestions!
I loved Mobipocket on my old Windows phones. Since I got my Evo and G-tab I use ireader (bought from the Market). It reads all of my Mobi files, and I still use Mobi on my PC to create them. If you want a free reader that reads them, you can try the Kindle app, just have to copy the books into the Kindle folder on your device.
Hello,
I've spent 100s of hours with that, in fact the need of a powerful device for Mobipocket brought me to HTC HD2 and all that flashing and hacking activity ;-) ..no regrets, because the Mobipocket on my HD2 now is that what I was longing for, so I really much appreciate all that xda-developers help..
There is no bloody kindle doing this job! ..and hardly anything els, I couldn't believe it myself - the mobipocket version I use now must be about 6 years old !!
Certainly there are number of other readers, most of them unfortunately pitifuly poor.
Mobipocket came with 3 important things for me:
a) I can create a mobibook of my own (using pc creator)
b) there is a choice of 100s of dictionaries which are direct linked to my readings by simply tapping a word - smth. similar you will find with other readers too, the difference is that they give you typically a choice of max 2 dict. - none of which I would compare to my Longman or Chambers - and you can only dream about them working simultaneously - well, some of them would take you online - which is quite impressive by iReader, however, mobi-dictionaries do not depend on the internet connection, plus you can again highlight, bookmark, add note, or create a direct link from that book you've been reading into your dictionary, so next time when you go through it, you'd just touch that underlined word which takes you right where you want to be..
c) you can customize colours, fonts, toolbar, organize reading lists.. given the fact, that this app was stopped by Amazon in development some 6 years ago, it is a luxury application.. well, it doesn't turn pages in 3D, but as a reading tool, especially for study, in my opinion, it's hardly replaceable by other reader so far..
some readers do the mobipocket format, but do they support the function of built-in mobipocket dictionaries? hardly.. if I wanted my Longman to work in an android reader, the trouble is they don't do it as a built-in dictionary anymore..
WM 6.5 FOREVER
Mobipocket was purchased by Amazon. It is the backbone for their .azw format (at one point and time, you could retrieve the Kindle 1 PID). On the Kindle devices, you could read .prc and .mobi formats natively.
I haven't tried with the Android app, but you could try copying a Mobi file into the Kindle's book folder and see if it appears. The only downside is that the Kindle app doesn't have a PID, so it wouldn't be able to read protected files.
Ever since Amazon acquired Mobipocket, there haven't been any real updates to the Mobipocket apps. There were a few minor updates to existing apps, but no new platforms have been added (like Android). Amazon pretty much wants everyone to use the Kindle app instead.
