Does anyone use a download manager? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hello everyone.
I was wondering if anyone has been using a download manager that works flawlessly on their diamond.
I installed Handyget and WMDA (winmobile download accelerator).
The first doesnt suport VGA but you can still use it. The only thing is that it stop every once in a while while downloading a file (over HSDPA). It is very annoying. The other one supports VGA, has a beautiful interface, but seems to save the files to the device memory before transferring them to the internal storage even though you set it to save directly to a folder in internal storage.
If anyone is using a good download manager, or has a way to fix WMDA to save directly to internal storage without saving to device first please advise me.
Thanks
Edit: Anything that works with rapidshare will do..

USB Transfer Problem. Help!

Hi all, can anyone sort this -
When i connect via usb i choose 'disk drive' to transfer files/music etc to the phone. Everty time i try to transfer anything it says on the PC (windows xp) 'cannot copy xxxx - the path is too deep'
Has anyone else had any problems or does anyone have any ideas? Thanks
My first reaction is to say that wherever you're trying to copy from or too has a long pathname. Are you trying to copy individual files or whole folders, and where are you trying to copy from/to (e.g. My Documents)?

It doesn't matter how long the filename is it still says it. I've tries individual files and full folders but still the same. And i've tried copying from/to all sorts of different places but still no joy???
Hmmm. Maybe the way that Windows is transferring files is malfunctioning. This is definitely an advanced problem, which requires an expert.
*Waits for expert*
First of all, try another USB port. If that doesn't work, try this, in order. stop after the diamond works:
1- uninstall/reinstall activesync, then try accessing files with it.
2- Stop the Diamond usb drive by clicking the safely remove device icon. Then plug it again.
3- Uninstall all USB Root hub in your windows device manager, then reboot computer.
4- Hard Reset device.
5- Reinstall Windows
6- Return Device.
Can you try moving a file name with 8 chacters or less from your c:\ to the phone? Eg c:\song.mp3 to your phone
Also, what OS are you using? What file system does the phone 'disk' show up as in windows?

It shows as fat32. ?
this simply means the files are under a folder tree with too deep or too long with characters. such as:
C:\My Documents and Settings\Andrew Loh\Documents\my structural folders\andrew loh\scanning\pdf\finanacial documents\banking stuff\hong kong bank\bank statement\date 2008-06-09\page 1\200806091211224412.pdf
Simpliest thing first.....take your diamond to another computer.....confirm if it's computer problem or diamond problem

It seems related to FAT system I guess.
Could you try to format the disk from PC when connected as DISK mode and try to copy file or folder again?
This might be helpful.

Right - i've tried to transfer files from a different pc via 'disk mode' and it worked fine.
I can transfer stuff from mine via active sync but it takes ages transferring albums etc. It must be some setting on my computer causing the problem, although i don't have problems transferring things to sd cards etc. Any ideas?
For the love of God...
Hi All,
This seems like a very old problem but as far as I can tell, was never resolved or someone didn't share their solutions with the rest of us lovely newbies!
Unfortunately for me I am now having the same problem and after searching the forums it led me to this thread (along with two others that didn't have any difinitive answers either). When trying to copy anything that is within a folder from my comp (be it from a partitioned drive or the desktop of the root C: drive) I get the error "Cannot Copy ****ath is too deep".
After much trawling on the internet I found some third party software that should have solved the problem. No such luck , when using that I get a "semaphore timeout error". Next I try to direct extract from a .rar file to the internal memory and it tells me the reason it can't complete is that "the disk may be full".
As it stands now; I've formatted my phone's internal storage (and then had to transfer all programs one by one back over from my comp), enabled DMA transfer from the Device Manager in Windows XP and still no luck at all.
Could someone please shed some light on this as (as you could probably tell by the long winded post) I'm at my wit's end with this despite loving the phone in general!
Cheers in advance,
Night
I also have the same problem,
When i use activesync, big files like movies can only be put on the device itself, not the internal memory of 4g.
When i use the diskdrive option, the computer sees it als an usb storage, but files cannot be transferred, because of the "path is too deep" error.
in dutch it is called "pad is te lang", any options?
Also does someone know where to buy the official extended battery in Holland, because bol.com cannot deliver and other sites are way expensive.
Ok, just fixed it.
I turned off the activesync software in windows.
Connected the device to my usbconnector on the back of the pc (a 2.0 usbdrive)
Then it worked! Now 755 mb of .mp4 movie on the device...
i dont know if someone still got such a problem. I got it today and solved it with flashing an other rom on it from the Ruu.

Installation

Hi,
Im quite new on this HTC phones.
I have a problem, I dont know how to install software on the diamond.
It opens the files in Opera but it will not start the installation.
Do I have to have any program to install programs on the phone?
I have been trying to install tomtom 7 but it will not work.
Best regards,
Martin
Look on the internet for a cab file of TT7 copy and paste this in your internall storage in the map programmables. Disconnect phone from usb go to the place where you put it and run it from there.
This should work probably.
Grtzzz
I have the same problem too, but only happened while installing .cab file.
Anyone can help? Thanks a lot.
It dosent work.
I found the file here on the forum, I did active sync with my computer, I took the file, moved it the the 4g internal storage of the phone.
I tryed to start it but nothing happens.
Thats the problem i have, it seems that my phone dont want to start the cab files.
Should I just click the file or should I do something else?
Normaly just clicking is enough.
Sorry but are you shure its a cab file its not rarred or zipped.
Have you allready installed other programs this way?
For cab files i do not use activesync to put them on the device i simply do it in storage mode.
Grtzzzz
I found the way, I had to make a soft reset. Then it worked!

edit2: trieing editing name in diamond doesnt work says cant change name.mmh dont want to install evething new only because of that silly 2.
before we can help you please tell us what device you have and more importantly what ROM you are running (version + brand).
thanks
ok i solved the prob.
It was because of tomtom it was open while i connected to pc.
Guess it created cause there was no interal storage
a new folder so the diamond changed the original to 2.
I deleted the new one and the Diamond changed the name back again.
Thank you so much !! for solving that problem and write about it on this board. I have had the same problem for 3 weeks now, been in contact with HTC support without getting any answer to my problem.
Best Regards

[Q] How doe you "sideload" apps to the Galaxy S?

Hi all...
Sorry for the noob question but I am still really new with Android devices.
Can someone please explain how you "sideload" apps to my Galaxy S i9000M?
I really hope this is not an extremely dumb question but I really want to try the
z4root app out that RyanZA has created and it is not YET on the Market for download.
Any assistance and explaination is much appreciated!!!
PS... Im a quick learner so once it is explained I will not bother you PRO's again for something like this...
-EDIT- Ok... I see that this thread is not getting much response so I will add some further information in hopes that someone can explain things to me.
I am on stock JH2 Eclair Firmware (if that matters).
I want to know... How is the best way to download these apk files to my device to be installed? Via my computer and then xfered to my SGS via USB or should I download the file directly to my device?
Once its on my device, where is the best place to put it? ie. Internal SD, External SD, somewhere else?
Please oh mighty DROID experts... Help this unworthy noob in his quest for "DROID-DOM"...
There probably isn't a best way, but if you download the .apk to your desktop computer you can email it to your phone and then save attachment. I use internalsd/download because I don't have an external sd. Then use a program like Astro Browser on your phone and navigate to the download directory. Tap the file you saved and then open app manager to install.
USB or through kies will get the file to your phone easily also.
I like when people create a QR code for their files. I browse mostly on my desktop so I use barcodescanner on my phone to get the link to my phone.

Thank You Videonut. I appreciate the response and the help.
Any way works. Card reader for your SD card, KIEs, USB debugging mode, Dropbox, email attachment, web browser, bluetooth... none of it matters. Location on your phone doesn't matter either. You are still going to have to install it.
Thanks everyone for the explainations. They will come in handy in the future but for now it seems that RyanZA has put the z4root on the market and I no longer need to side load it but again... Thanks for helping!!!
