NEW guy

hi guys im new to the whole smart phones i have never really been into phones but my girl recently got me the tilt for 100 dollars from att and man i love it . Ever since i got it ive been so into it , with that being said i have a couple of questions if you guys dont mind answering my newbish question and yes i tryed to use the search key first.
1.What is a rom? i know its read only memory but what is it in reguards to a phone?
2. what is a radio?
3. what are the benefits of downloading a rom to your att tilt?
4. how would i download a rom to the phone do i need other software on the phone before i could download a rom?
please dont bash me im just a newb trying to learn.

Now, that is a preference question. They are all good. Just make sure you have hardspl installed before you go anywhere. Once it's installed, choose your rom poison and flash. If you dont like the rom, flash a different one. Might I suggest flashing via SD card though. Much safer and quicker.

i tryed using my sd car but it would not load the file. and to restore to normal just remove the file or refurr back to the faqs?

Did you hardspl? Did you completely read that FAQ? Did you follow all the steps provided? Somehow, I doubt the answer to all of these questions is yes.

CRUD MY PHONE IS stuck on htc duttys series screen

okay i was told to install this cab disable xt9 and default keyboard dutty for my previos problems..
i soft reset and now its stuck on htc dutty series screen(screen after the att thingy). what do i do! plz help and i am a total noob too.... urgent help....
EDIT: okay i just hard resetted hoping it will work..=\ but just tell me is there any other option besides hard resetting....

yea i dont even know what flashing is thats why i posted a thread I NEED HELP FLASHING i am a noob or something like that... i just hard reseted my device so yea.. i dont think i will be messing around with my tilt that much anymore.. i got so scared becuz i just got this phone last week

Sorry to hear that man. okay, the safest bet at this point is to just install the stock rom from AT&T (if you have a AT&T Tilt)...
Make sure you have newest activesync installed on your pc, and your phone have at least 50% juice left in the battery.
Download official AT&T Tilt rom here:

Install Instruction
Steps before running the upgrade:
1. take out the battery to make the phone go off, unplug usb cord if you have it plugged to your pc.
2. put battery back in
3. Press and hold the camera button all the way in, then press the power button while still holding the camera button.
4. This will make your phone boot in to tri-color screen.
5. Now look at the bottom white area, when it says USB, connect your phone to your pc through usb cord.
6. Now you can just go ahead, open the rom you just downloaded and follow the steps.http://www.htc.com/uploadedFiles/Common/Software_Download/images/AT&T_Tilt_Software_Installation.pdf

I noticed. But you now have created WAY too many New Threads. Tsk tsk. No one is going to SPOONFEED you the answer on how to Flash. Need to Read the items in my Signature and then When you are confident you understand it all do it. Otherwise the likelyhood that you will make an expensive HTC Paper Weight Is very high.
Also, if you have been told to do this because of "previous problems" you shouldn't have created this new thread.. you should of asked this question on the thread you learned about this in.

​Brian, a little friendly advice here...
You have seriously become what is known as a "Serial Threader". Follow the links in my Signature, read them and understand them. Then come back and be a good forum citizen.
First, you need to post in the proper subforum. Questions about flashing DO NOT belong in the General subforum, they belong in the upgrading subforum.
Next, you need to post your questions in the correct threads (i.e. for the Rom you are using or in a thread that asks the same thing).
Then only time you should create a NEW thread is when there are no existing threads where your question fits. None of your threads fits this requirement.
Finally, be patient. Nobody at XDA-Devs is paid for their time, yes even the Moderation Team is entirely volunteer.
Take to heart the fact that XDA-Devs is just as much about the journey as it is the destination. If you don't care for the how but only want the bling then this is not the right place for you.

btw, I wish I could show such a nice screenshot of my SSPL but it's black screen mode currently.. USB works though
(that black screen is just a cosmetic thing though... SSPL itself is functional)

I'm a Chinese. The post in "xda-china" shows only two pictures, and said "已经可以刷机了，正在进一步测试中".(it's now able to flash (a custom ROM), still testing)
No download is available from that post.
BTW:Google can't translate the post into English correctly coz it's not written in formal Chinese.

No download link it means fake. (doesnt mind if they want to sell it but at least give a word). 1st screenshot doesnt show full Rhodium body & everybody can edit bootloader image screenshot especially the 2nd line

I don't think there is a need to ask about it right now.
still no download link and many people there are getting angry with that post saying that it's fake.

now as far as tethering goes it was really random with me on liquid and kifno roms it just dosnt work on them i tried different kernals but no dice if you want to stay on a 2.1 sense rom i highly recommend using nfx stock with apps2sd its by far the most stable one and everything works. because its pretty much just the ruu rooted with apps2sd.

Ok, I'll try that, but I really like this ROM and would like to learn how to fix problems with other people's ROMs, if possible, hence my DEV post. Devs should know how to do that. Are you a dev? There has to be a way. Reverse engineer, analyze logcats, update swap out drivers, etc.?

you cant post threads asking questions in development you need to go to the specifc roms thread and post your question there instead. also liquid isnt supporting his 2.1 roms anymore so it might be hard to get a fix for it.

I've experienced the same problem with more than one ROM and have tried that approach to no avail. Downloading and flashing an ENTIRELY NEW ROM because one or two things doesn't work with the current ROM is like throwing the baby out with the bath water, and a very VERY NOOB thing to do. There has to be a way to diagnose issues and fix them in ROMs in general. Someone knows how to do it. And coincidentally USB tethering in the ROM you suggested isn't working for me again! However I installed the wired tether from Google and that is working.. ATM, which did not work with the other ROM.

Please, don't. Devs are not around here at the moment doesn't mean they are uninterested. They are people like us, they have their lives too and not to mention they have to maintain development for other devices as well. Why don't you try to contact devs for XL like capy directly?

not much can be done by devs without device and also need know how. id say contact the Alpha-Rev devs as they seem to be the main contributors where s-off is concerned. they have a website in sensation s-off thread. they would be your best bet. this is a good thing but ahead of what is currently possible in here. also right now s-off is not off that much importance as we can do quite alot with s-on and unlocked bootloader. s-off will be needed for super cid, radios, bootsplash and anime etc. be patient

Not needed right now as with unlocked bootloader can achieve all we need to right now. Would be nice but for now all is good in here
