There's an app on symbian os called Happy Wake Up.
It basically analyzes all the noise around you, and your breathing patterns and everything, and then wakes you up just the right way instead of the absurd alarm clock on windows mobile.
I'm not a programmer but anyone that can do pull it off, it would be amazing!!
Here's a link to the website with for the original app on the Symbian OS.

Good Luck
man you would have to be breathing pretty loud i cant imagine my phone picking up my breathing unless its right under my nose.
haha you'd be surprised. it's pretty damn sensitive. it takes not only your breathing but the sounds from ALL your movements while you sleep too. has to be intense to do that.
Quote from site "Actually it listens to your movements during the night time. Therefore the phone has to be near to you, preferably on your bed"
damn i might crush that thing if its on my bed lol. sounds interesting but seems to complicated and i am not really sure how well it will work. for example if i went to sleep at say 12 had to wake up at 3am i might still be in my REM sleep. so will it not sound an alarm to wake me up. Maybe they have a disable option but i have my doubts until i can try it lol.
haha, hey man i'm with you on the doubts, but it would be damn nice if we can try it out. what's it gonna hurt?
I would be more than willing to try this out! Sounds awesome!
hardware
lol, seems hardware related, you should check the mic of the raphael before
seems completely useless
Interesting. I wonder what it listens for. Snoring? I do that most of the time. Quietness? That's when I'm the deepest asleep.
How do I know? I have a sleep disorder. My body falls asleep but my ears and most of my mind do not. While dreaming I can hear myself snoring, hear everything around me and still feel my body. It's like being in two places at once. Weird!
Any way. This sounds like an interesting app. Thanks
Interesting idea but I suspect an overnight battery drainer.

*minds out of the gutter*
I frequently use my phone in bed while lying down sideways (years of using my laptop in bed have made this so). This means that Gyrator gets completely screwed up because my head is sideways, giving no hope for the screen to be oriented the same way as my eyes. I usually have to move around a lot to get it to line up, or give up and sit up.
Is there a way to switch Gyrator, or your phone, to know that sideways is up for a temporary period of time? Does anyone else deal with this problem? Is this the most meaningless problem you've ever heard of? Is all this way too much information about my bed habits?
I have the same problem with Opera on my Fuze.... You are not alone, sir.
+1 Agreed
I uninstalled gyrator last night whilst in bed as it was annoying me so much.
I honestly thought I was the only one with this problem.
I ended up just using PIE for anything I wanted to read (which worked out since I mostly read short stories on websites)
I have not come across anything that might do what you're asking, and although I wasn't exactly looking for it I think it would have caught my eye.
If I find anything I'll let you know. Power to the bed-gyrators! (?)
Agreed. Uninstalled Gyrator for the same reason as yours.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=465586
Get it and add exceptions to it for apps you use in bed
I think it might be easier to just crash Gyrator in bed. There are no apps I use exclusively why lying down.
Try playing Teeter while lying down sideways. It's a mess!
follow kraize's advice and install this alternative to gyrator. much easier to configure and has some diff settings that are def what ur looking for.
My wife loves her Gyrator, she uses it in the bed, at her desk at her office... I think she likes it too much......
+1 for Change Screen. I've been using it for 2 days and not 1 problem and very easy to customize.
Hahah, I totally have this same problem. But then, I don't think it bothers me enough to actually do anything about it. And it would annoy me more to have a switch an app on and off to change the behaviour.
Must...get...disappointed mind...out of.....gutter...
I like that I can set Gyrator to allow certain rotations, and not others, so that TouchFlo and the phone app only flip, but don't rotate. I believe I couldn't get that level of control with Change Screen.
Is there an app that can automatically turn on the speakerphone when the phone is placed face down? I think this would be a pretty cool addition. Any thoughts?
Gyrator can detect when you are using the phone and turn it face down and run a keypress for you. No idea if that could be used to turn on the speakerphone though.
Neat idea until your laying on your bed talking to your gf when your wife walks in!!!
[Note]Not that I would ever do that[/Note]
Would be a neat feature though, as long as you could disable it.

Im not married, so no worries there! I just thought it would be convenient if I had to put the phone down for something then it would automatically switch to speaker.

Ok, if you like the TD2's speakerphone on flip stunt, then here's a cool tip for you...
Using Gyrator:
- Add a new "Rotation" event.
- Set application to Phone on the "Application" tab.
- On the "Orientation" tab check on "Portrait", "Face-down", and "Face-up".
- On the "Actions" tab check on "Simulate Keypress".
- Goto "Advanced" tab and select key "F16,127" which triggers the windows-native "Speakerphone Toggle event".
Done.
Now, starting NOT on speakerphone, whenever you put your phone on a level surface --facing up or down-- during a call, the speakerphone will toggle ON -> Moreover, if you pick it up it should toggle OFF. Good enough?
Cheers
P.S. You can also do the same for a "Stylus Out" event to fire when "Phone" application is focused, thereby simultaneously toggling on the speakerphone and starting up a new Note (default behaviour) whenever you take the stylus out during a call. Aren't we the lazziest lot..

here ya go.. I read this in the diamond forum the other day
Fascinating stuff. All of this customization is one of the things keeping the Fuze in my pocket still. Once in a while the bulk and weight drag me down, then I fall back in love the the ability to tinker the thing to exactly how I like it.
Directly related to this. I'd be curious to know how well the speakerphone works on a technical level when face down. I believe the speakerphone microphone is still on the front of the Fuze which I assume will negatively affect the overall performance.
I've tried this but I cant get it to work on a call out. Maybe I just put it in wrong. Let me know if you guys were able to get it to work.

I thought the microphone was at the bottom side ofthe phone. just above the USB port? Am I wrong? Thats what it looks like on my fuze.... otherwise I have no idea what that little hole is!

Yes, that is where the microphone is at. I usually turn my phone face down anyway while on speakerphone since the speaker is on the back and makes it easier to hear.

I was certain this feature was included out of the box and I had just lost it when I flashed new ROMs.
My Touch Incall Screen Tweak can perform this function - just search for it on here - its normally on the first page of this sub-forum. (not in a position to find the link, sorry).
Cheers,
Steve

Mate, stop reading outdated stuff! Find & use "Touch-InCall-Screen-Tweak" program, it is SUPER cool; its like magic...auto speakerphone whenever the device is not on your ear, very customizable too.
Cheers
Hey!
If you guys really really want the MOD, let's do something about it. AND I NEED ALL SUPPORT FROM EVERYONE.
Read Carefully.
I'm not sure if you've heard of PSX emulator or not. The author, zodttd, has started the project because he saw
there was a petition ( Here ) to have me bring PSX, N64, and the VLC media player to the Android platform. With over 1800 signatures I started work on PSX a few days ago.

So what I am thinking is, we should do the same thing too!
I have begun a petition. Now all I need is you guys to sign it. It's a really simple process.
Once we have enough signatures, we can show it to mods from other communities.
Petition
Thanks,
Clay
have you sent any emails to app developers or anything like that before you post a petition? I think you may be jumping the ball a little bit here... go ask a few developers first.. Im pretty sure someone might have the time (or knowledge to help you learn how to implement your idea...
doesnt seem like it should be that hard to link the led notification and a button backlight... they have done it with trackballs...
As soon as I get my vibrant I shall start work on this.. Someone will probably get it working before me but I shall give it a shot..
Petition is a nice idea, but no need for it. Im pretty sure once the vibrant (galaxy s) gains more popularity, the programs an mods will start to come.
wow making the button backlight as notifications is actually a really good idea.

Thirded. Great idea.
This would be fantastic. Good idea.
can't wait to see progress.. also, is there a charging light? if not can there be a mod to have one of the buttons (i rather see the search icon as a charging LED)
Thinking about getting a Vibrant, and this mod would make the purchase that much easier.
All for it!!!
Make it happen
Im still on the fence if i should buy this phone because im so used to my g1's hardware keyboard and the lack of an led notification is kind of turning me away from this awesome beast. i spent maybe half an hour playing with one today at t-mobile...if this gets done maybe ill get a vibrant and overcome my attachment to hardware keyboards lol.
a cool idea would be to have someone make the backlight for the buttons light up sequentially left to right!

Even in stock form you will not regret the purchase of this device I love this device
Agreed. This thing is amazing. Came from a G1 and the lack of hw keyboard isn't a big deal for me (and I used the hw kb constantly!). No led notification is odd, but if we can do this button backlight mod....
What about AMOLED?
I don't get it-
Why are we looking for workarounds like lighting the menu buttons when there's a Super AMOLED screen to play with? Since there's no backlight to lose precious mWh's from the battery every time you want to show a light pixel, shouldn't a simple white text/pattern/indicator drawn on the screen with the rest of it black/off work as needed? Make it flash, make it off most of the time like a normal indicator, make sure that notification is bright, perhaps make it customizable, and bingo!
It might even be more efficient than some silly LED somewhere...

thanks i think ima go for it!
and whoever mentioned the screen idea, its deff not bad either imo but idk how thatd compare to the backlight idea battery-wise...i mean maybe youre right it might take less battery to flash the screen rather than the menu buttons

that doesn't sound bad at all, something like the battery icon that the screen shows when the phone is powered off but is charging. have a notification icon show on the screen and have it blink at certain values
yes sir. i'm all for it as well!
That sounds like a great idea. And different buttons could be set for different notifications. Like say the Menu button could light up if you have a new text, the Home button if you have a new E-mail, and so on.
I used to do a lot of Java coding, but am pretty rusty. Tomorrow I'm going to start looking into implementing any of the ideas mentioned here. Already installed the android sdk, just need to learn how to write android applications
I love active notifications however I feel that Sensor is way to sensitive. If im sitting at a desk and its moves just a little bit it turns on. I'm hoping in the future will have a way to lower this sensitivity, anyone else experiencing this?

It's not always the touch, could have been a light change or noise too. That being said don't worry about it deciding to wake up the active notification is very low battery draw.

It's distracting, though. I don't get how this is the solution for receiving too many notifications during the day. For me, it's actually more stressful to see the clock/notifications coming in and out every 30 secs.
I'm not meaning to criticize, just wondering... is having a screen going on and off really nicer for everyone but me?

Well I agree in your situation it might be easier to have it less often I think the majority of cases are people pulling it out of a pocket or they keep it face down on a desk so it's less of an issue. Once we have some real development this is very possibly something that will be tweaked keeping the phone face down may help you for now.
Noone else has mentioned it but there are new sensors in the Nexus 5 that I have not seen on the Nexus 5 area yet. It is new to 4.4 as well as the Nexus 5.
http://developer.android.com/about/versions/kitkat.html#44-sensors
Basically, the new sensors make the product http://www.moves-app.com/ much more powerful. To the point of eBaying my fitbit (in theory). Going to be testing this out but I wanted to point it out to others who are fitness minded who overlooked this feature like myself.
I tried the moves app earlier today and just sitting at my desk and texting my girlfriend it said I took 67 steps. Not very accurate right now

Had Moves running during the day today and it counted 11000 steps instead of 8000 my Withings Pulse says - and I carry Pulse everywhere, while the phone was on the table occasionally, do discrepancy is even bigger. I trust Withings Pulse very much as far as step counting goes, I compared it with Garmin pedometer before and they're very close. So I agree, this thing is way overcounting.
Have to say Moves is also a battery hog - it will turn on GPS every couple of minutes or so, which can be seen very nicely with N5, and comes up high in battery stats. I don't even care for this functionality and there's no way to turn it off.
So I am very unimpressed for now. Hopefully this can be solved in software...
PS: That said, I very much like the direction in which this is going. It's just the implementation still has some mileage to go.

I agree and also found it as a battery hog.. Uninstalled until it gets refined..
