I put my ringtones into my internal drive how come there not showing up when i go to pick a ringtone . I have to take them from my internal drive and then copy/paste them into my windows/sounds folder for them to show up and its taking up to much memory. I thought you could use ringtones from the internal drive
\Internal Storage\My Documents will work for you.
thank you that worked perfect

I found that Ring Tone from the external drive don't work so use Total Commander and copy them under the Windows folder......Subfolder called Rings

sorry guys, but i have searched repeatedly on how to do this and came up with nothing.
is there a way to use mp3's as ringtones from the MicroSD card? i tried everything and i dont want to fill up precious memory on the phone with mp3's or cut the bitrate down to where it sounds like a bunch of midi files. paste a shortcut maybe? is there a app that can do this? i already know where to put them on the phone to use them, i want to directly access the mem card for ringtones, it doesnt ever come out of the phone anyways.
my Sony s710a read all the ringtones straight from the memory card, how in the world can i get the kaiser to do likewise?
thanks
I haven't tried this on the Kaiser just yet, but putting them in the root directory of the SD card has always worked for me, for the other HTC phones I have.
I haven't tried this yet, but in the "Audio Manager" application it shows me all the songs which are available to WMP (Inc. those on the SD Card) from here I can hold down on one with the stylus and I have the option to "Set as Ring Tone"
just make a folder on your sd card called "My Documents" with a folder inside that called "My Ringtones" ---- any song you have in my ringtones folder will show up on your ringtone list
go to the HTC Audio manager, select a song (mp3) you want, go to menu and select set as ringtone, then you will get the option to use as default ringtone or to copy the file to the ringtone folder.
I try to copy a mp3 file or a shortcut to the folder \Windows\Rings, but i cannot choose a mp3 in my telephone.

internal storage\my documents is the right way to do it because after a hard reset you'll still have them there and you don't use precious device memory.
Tank you!
After hard reboot i found the rings from \windows\rings too (not the shortcut).
But the internal storage\my documents is the right way!!!
If you want to put them on your device memory, the correct location is \My Documents\My Ringtones.

This might work for rings, but you will find it untrue for SMS notification.
In which case, "My Documents" root will work.
SMS notifications are put in windows folder inside internal storage
I can't set an mp3 as my ringtone. It just can't play mp3 when i use them for ringtones. I can listen to them in windows media player.
Hi,
My first post on this forum but hope it is of help.
Using an mp3 as a ringtone is cumbersome in winmo6.1 but possible. The problem is that it will not use mp3s from the internal storage card but the internal memory is very small.
My suggestion would be to use a program of some sort to trim the mp3 to just the 20s or 30s you need (winmo has a program called "MP3 Trimmer" but I haven't had need to use it so can't comment on it). Then copy the mp3 to My Device\My Documents\My Ringtones\.
Or you can just use "File Explorer", find the mp3 you want, hold-click on the file and choose "Set as ringtone". This will copy the file to the above-named folder and set it as ringtone.
Hope it helps!
will work from storage

I use mp3s from storsge card (4gb internal storage on Diamond) for ringtone, text alert, etc. Works fine. Just make sure you have a MyDocuments folder on your storage card, then copy mp3 to storage card/myDocuments. Then when you open sounds & notifications tab to select ring & alert sounds, your mp3s will show up in the dialog box that you scroll through to select sound. Has worked just fine for me on my diamond for the last year
(until yesterday, when I used a new file exp
lorer to force file association of mp3s to win media player, forgetting that my system needs em for tones & rings. now now any mp3 file in my device will ONLY work thru media player, not rings/alerts. Trying to figure how to fix that now)
but you should have no problem with ringtones from storage card(internal storage)/MyDocuments. Same is true with wallpaper for today screen, anything you put in storage/MyDocuments, will be selectable. hope you check this thread back.
Nice but possibly untidy?
That sounds much simpler than my suggestion! However, it also means giving up the My Documents folder to music, or making it untidy as it is mixed with other files.
I suppose I could have a different folder for my actual documents. But will the camera still save in its default storage\my documents\my pictures location within the folder with all the music?
On a slight side note, is it possible to change the folders used by the TouchFlo 3D music app? My app has decided to list all the mp3s in the TomTom folder & in any games folders
@ meister2681...
Your folders don't need to be terribly untidy. For example, on my storage, I have , the root has folders for Zips, Cabs, Program Files, MUSIC, My Documents, etc. My Documents has subfolders for My Videos, My Pictures, I think maybe 1 more folder, I forget. Anyhow, MUSIC, is where I put all my mp3s. The few that I use for ringtones and alerts, I copy them to storage/My Documents (I use only about 5, so it's not too messy or cluttered).
Yes, camera will still save to storage/My Documents/My Pictures
Don't know about htc music folder. I don't use Touchflo (don't like all the scrolling required), and just don't really have time to examine it right now (my 3yr old is demanding attention )
Long press on your mp3s should give you a 'set as ringtone' option. Mine doesn't anymore, but it's because of something dumb I did
Cool!
I will have to try it that way once I've put the latest ROM on (I'm sticking with official ones at the moment, I have 1.93 but just downloaded 2.03). Will be upgrading soon, hopefully to HD2, then will mod the diamond to oblivion!
Thanks for the advice, hopefully the original thread author will log in and check!
FWIW...
WooHoo, I finally got all my menu options back. Wiped my device. It turns out, the Clear Storage option under Settings restores your device to factory settings BUT, leaves your storage card/Internal storage in tact. So I still have all my music, and all my cabs for easy reinstall of all my programs. Cool! I thought it would wipe my entire device AND mass storage. But no. Just wish I woulda backed up contacts somehow :/
Activesync
I use activesync (or Mobile Device Centre on Win7) to synchronise contacts with Outlook. Find it works a treat and also makes it much easier to send emails - I use Outlook as my primary email program. Also synchronises calendar / notes etc.
will look
I'll look into that for next time. I've actually never playedwith/figured out activesync. Or Outlook, for that matter. The computer at my house doesn't have any Office progs, butjust did some digging and found it has Outlook Express (it's my roommates desktop, set up mostly for gaming, I guess). Will have a look, thanks.
My Phone
Not sure about Express, I remember it worked with my Nokia's sync software but dunno about activesync.
I also recently found that MS have a download called My Phone, which backs up everything to their server (cue conspiracy theorists!!). I've used it for text messages and I can now access them all through my hotmail account. Should work for all the rest as well, and I think it allows for restoring.
Hi there,
I am having problems transfering music on to my LG Optimus Black.
I am not sure where to create a music folder so the default music player can see the music files.
I have created music folders in Audio and in DCIM and in the main menu and the music is on the phone but the it is not found by the default player.
Any help would be appreciated .
Kind Regards
Kev
You put music files (say .mp3) anywhere in your memory card, your player should detect it automatically. So there should be an error reading the memory card.
Try this : Settings >> SD card & phone storage >> Unmount SD card.
Then mount it again. Once scanning of all media files finishes ( You may be able to see the scanning progress and completion notification on top bar. ) you player should work okay.
Also try downloading different players from market. Do they detect your music files?
I'm not that sure but I think the SD already have a "music" folder? mine those, I put all files there and player automatic detected them, even if I have files at bluetooth>music or download>music folders still detect them with no problem

Well even if there's no music named folder it still works. I directly copied my folders from pc such as metallica and linkin park etc and I put it in "my favourite" folder in root directory and it works perfectly..
how to add ringtones from memory card
You have to create a folder called Ringtones in the root folder of the memory card. I am still waiting for my external memory card so I made the folder in the internal memory.
Tone picker

well if you have music your already in sd card.. i would suggest using app called tone picker... it will give you option to select any of your songs as ringtone!!!
If anybody uses GoSMS Pro, it can be used to pick your music as ringtones as well
