Hi everyone,
I have just made this patch that allows using the AZERTY built-in (hardware) keyboard with a ROM in a different language (WWE, SPA, ITA, GER…).
Remarks:
- This works only for Blue Angel, because Wallaby, Himalaya and Andes DO NOT have a hardware keyboard.
- The On-screen keyboard won’t change. If you have a ROM in World Wide English (WWE), your Block Recognizer, Letter Recognizer, Keyboard and Transcriber will be in English, ONLY the hardware keyboard will be in French.
- If you know how to use WinCE CAB Manager 1.1, it’s is possible to adapt this to other keyboards. You only have to extract and modify “Platformxxx.reg” inside the BA_AZERTY_Hardware_Keyboard_Patch_for_WWE_ROM.cab and put it back to the cab file with your own settings. I won’t make any other patch for other keyboard. I made this patch just for me, but you can use it and modify as you like.
What’s inside? How can I modify it?
The most important registry key to modify is the last key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\Qwerty]
"Layout"=dword:0002040c
You have to modify the last 3 digits (after the 00020) depending on your hardware. For instance, for a T-Mobile MDA III with a (hardware) keyboard in German you should give this value:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\Qwerty]
"Layout"=dword:00020407
(00000407 is the code for the German keyboard layout.
The other keys correct the Local Settings.
The first key set the values for France
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\nls]
"DefaultACP"=dword:000004e4
"DefaultLCID"=dword:0000040c
"DefaultOCP"=dword:00000352
"SystemLCID"=dword:0000040c
The second key set the GMS Emergency number to 112 (all over Europe)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\ECall]
"List"=hex(7):\
31,31,32,00,00
The third key sets the time zone: +1 Madrid, Paris
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Clock]
"GMT_OFFSET"=dword:ffffffc4
"AppInfo"=hex:\
01,00,00,00,3A,01,00,00,69,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,01,00,00,00,80,01,00,00,04,\
00,00,00,00,00,00,00,01,00,00,00
Where you can download it?

Have fun
I tested on my French Qetk 9090 with WWE ROM and it works FLAWLESSLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now guys remove this stupid and incomprehensible French rom localization and jump for a WWE ROM. I wonder now why some many people got difficulties to understand how to use a PPC in France, the Menu and translation are written by monkeys…

Thanks so much
Rups
I have upgraded two more keyboards, the Italian and the German and I have also modified the Regional Time Zone settings for these Countries.
I intended to build these cabs to intall them in the Extemded ROM (I'm using the Belgium ROM BA_WWE_BelDT_12200_557_10602_SHIP.exe and I have replaced the Belgium Operators cab with my AZERTY keyboard cab ), so I don't need to personalize my Blue Angel every time I need to do a hard reset.
For those who just want to use their localized keyboard with a ROM in a different language, they only need to modify this key with a Registry Editor as explained in my previous message.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\Qwerty]
"Layout"=dword:00020xxx

Which is fine in the short term for I am sure that somebody SMART will post a fix for it.
However I still have a problem with the software keybaord.
I am in Switzerland and need the o,u,e with the dots on top.
I have found sofware for USD 29.95 that solves that:
http://pocket-pc-software.penreader.com/InterKey.html
Question: could you PLEASE post cab that will overwrite the internal keyboard ? Leaving the recogoniction ect in Engliah.
There is a MDAIII Extened rom GER (I think) posted under ftp, BlueAngel\MDAIII\MDA3 ext[1].ROM.zip
Your thoughts ?
How could I have forgotten Switzerland!!! )) When I think I lived one year in Zürich... And I will be back soon to visit some friends over there, in Wettingen.
Listen mate, for the internal keyboard is too much of a problem, because, I think, each version of Pocket PC has only the keyboard drivers for the language is intended. i.e, a ROM in WWE won´t have the drivers for a Swiss keyboard... -for the Trancriber, I'm sure 100%- and besides the drivers are in the ROM memory, so not visible. I tried many many things to make work the on-screan keyboard but I couldn't find any solution... but maybe someone else will find it in the future. Nothing is impossible. Meanwhile there´s a very good solution and reasonable cheap (developers must make some money too!)
http://www.resco-net.com/keyboard.asp
In fact, I wanted a Spanish keyboard, because you can write in Spanish, French, English, German and many other languages... even Swiss German!, which you can't do with a US or French keyboard... so I have bought the Resco keyboard
As I said before, I don't think to make any other versions of the keyboard patch, but that's the whole thing in the Open Source... I found how to change the keyboards, I explained it to the community and Í'm sure that other guys here will do more keyboards in different languages. I'm pretty sure that other Swiss people will be interested so they can also contribute.
Actually, to write this answer me takes longer than to make a patch for the Swiss (german) keyboard... but I prefer to work now to unlock this Blue Angel thing I don't think to change of provider but it's a matter of principles. I hate locked things (phones, DVD players, etc.) and everything else that takes away some of your freedom... but that´s another subject and this is not the place for that
Viel Spass!

Oh What a nice guy you are and I am sure that your last post took you longer to write than a patch. (grin) But I am also sure lots of pepole will be happy with what they find as it is a lot esyser than searching the forum for the reg codes.
I am a bit lost on the Unlock thing you wrote about.
I downloaded a tool of this site that unhides the Exteneded rom and unlockes the sim (I think).
The an hide works for me, and my sim swiss phone works fine on my german MDAIII, is this what you need?
There is a

That's normal. In every language is the same. You shouldn't change that value... and if you do, there will be no difference.
I think windows just preload the US keyboard when it starts.

Thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks!!!!!!
Solved it!!
Solved the date problem going to "regional configuration".
And solved the keyboard problem changing to 0x...409
Thanks again.
International characters could be entered on hardware keyboard by typing basic letter (u, i s, c, etc.) , press and hold Lock/Fn key and rotate through variations by typing "sym" (space).
Does anybody knows if something similar could be done on software keyboard?
Hello, I am writing because I am a bit confused.
I have
WinCE cab manager open on the patch
platformxxx.reg open in notepad ready to be edited
phm registry editor open on the BA on the "querty" reg key
and this microsft pageopen,
but I am lost.
First:
Keyboard=ENG (t-mobile UK)
ROM=BA_DT_Swisscom_ITA_14004_8006_11200_SHIP
I understand that I have to change the QWERTY value in the REG KEY inside the PLATFORMXXX.REG. I save the whole thing and the install on the BA.
Now, the current value on the unpatched reg key is:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\Qwerty] "Layout"=dword:00020809
if I go check in the Microsft page, 809 is already UK (0x0809 en-GB English (United Kingdom) ).
I was expecting this value to be the Swiss-ITA (0x0810 it-CH Italian (Switzerland)
I am totally lost, what am I supposed to do?
EDIT:
SOLVED
trial and error:
I will answer my own question:
you have to change the language of the keyboard to the one of your rom and not viceversa.
Thank you for your help, I am a happy camper now that the keyboard works.
EDIT:
JUST ONE NOTE:
I had to change the REGION SETTINGS: date was in FRENCH.
NOW IS PERFECT
Thank you so much!
Dears,
Sorry for creating new thread but I cannot find answer anywhere.
I have bought HTC TyTN II and it is not localized standard version: English.
I use English keyboard everyday but I need Russian as well. I don't like crappy additional utilities and software, I want to install keyboard layout like in Windows XP, standard windows version.
Question is:
See attachment. You can see English keyboard layout with au button marked in red. Is it possible to have Russian letters by pressing this button instead of symbols I don't use?!
Thank you!
I have a similar problem. I can create a Polish letter like "ł" typing "l", "au-button" and "space". Unfortunatelly this is the only Polish letter I can type this way. I also need special symbols with a,e,o,c,s,n but typing any of this letter "au-button" and "space" create an accent or some Spanish symbol. Can this be changed?
Guys, girls
Don't know if anyone have posted this yet, but here it goes.
It seems that there are many languages preinstalled in the OS, just not activated. In a simple procedure, i changed my OS language and got the dictionary of my native language (
T9 norwegian if anyone wonders), and it works with everything from widgets, settings blablabla..
I found this trick at
http://www.swedroid.se/forum/showpost.php?p=18162&postcount=32
For those of you that don't understand swedish, it goes as follows:
Download CustomLocale.apk from here: http://yochai.dyndns.org:8888/android/apps/CustomLocale.apk
*Edit, uploaded to another mirror: HERE
Then copy it to your sdcard. Use a apk installer to install the program. Then launch the app, choose your language, and quit.
Voila
No rooting etc.
Some have responded that some of the languages dont work. This swedish guy didnt manage to get his sv_SE language to work. He then just manually entered a new locale "sv", and then it worked. Might happen for ur country aswell (?).
Edit: Languages that reportedly works _with_ keyboard layout:
Norwegian Bokmål: nb
Swedish: sv
Spanish: ES
cheers
Wow, I'm superinterested in this. I have a Dutch Hero and I wanted the Spanish Keyboard. Tiddylicious, can you confirm that this provides the HTC autocorrection dictionaries and not only the keyboard layout?
By the way, the link to the download seems to be down...
Norwegian autocorrection works. Don't know how it is for other languages sry, so i guess u just have to test.
Let me know
I've tried and it hasn't worked for me :-(
The phone OS indeed changed to Spanish. Every menu and option are now in Spanish, except what I wanted the keyboard language. This still lets me only chose among the default installed ones. Any help?
EDIT:
It worked!!! Thanks man! You don't imagine how grateful I'm for this. I've been using the keyboard until now without the prediction and correction features, such an improvement now.
There were two options for Spanish es_ES and ES only. The second one did the trick.
Does it work on Magic?
No idea, sorry. It worked for me on the Hero, don't know if it will on the Magic.
It does.
The application was created in July.
I`ve bought my english version Hero in Norway about 1 week ago. , My OS is in english, but my T9 is in norwegian . , Changed from the keyboard settings.
Will this change anything else? .
Biggest problem is that prediction with words containing æøå by only tapping "a" and" o" where it should be ( not holding them to slide to the correct letter) are only done in landscape . In portrait these word options dont come . Will this change?
Thanx.
Rui-Cruz:
The landscape problem with a o -> å æ is not solved by this. As I been told, this is reported to htc. Lets hope the major update will solve this. Quite annoying...
Stilghar: Good to hear! As the swedish guy reported, sometimes there are different options for same country region.
If people from other areas get the keyboard and the os to work, let me know, ill update the first post
Does anyone know who has developed Custom Locale.apk??
I want to ask that person whether it is possible to edit the language text, as it - at least in Danish - contains A LOT of mistranslations.
Thank you.

The CustomLocale changes only the locale. The individual applications come with support for other languages (or not), and they decide which language to display based on the locale setting. The CustomLocale.apk does not contain any translations by itself.
I'm still looking for German text input support. My english Hero only supports English, French, Italian, and Spanish keyboard languages. Changing the locale changes the names of the languages to the German equivalent (as expected), but does not add any languages to choose from.... Presumably the Hero sold in Germany supports German text input!?!
But there must be some xml files in the core system that specify the actual interface text... or am I wrong??

Nice try though...

Got a HTC hero about 2 weeks ago, english language ofc. However i live in sweden, so im wondering: Will this change my whole phone into swedish? or just my T9 keyboard correction?
Because i rly dont want to have my phone in swedish, I prefer english on my electronics, feels much better IMO
It will change the entire OS, icluded the t9. If I understand u correctly, u want it in english, with swedish T9?

Exactly what i want .
I dont acculy know why I prefer english though.. its probably because I feel like it is more correct and easyer to understand in english, just makes more sence... but i guess, if it is as it says, that the other languages are already in the phone, its translated by HTC, so i should probably have nothing to worryabout anything being wrong...
I have en_GB locale. Tried russian(ru_RU), works! But, I want to have an english locale with english keyboard and also with russian keyboard. Ideas how to do it?

Is yours an official Hero ROM? If so how did you get Russian to work? I am with nofowuw on this, I prefer my electronic in English but English-transliterated Russian looks awful and takes more characters to boot. I checked around, but still can't seem to find any app to allow Cyrillic input (I can live w/o T9, just give me the damn keyboard).
Hello everyone,
Can someone tell me where can i find a good (with "big"keys) touch fingerpad with a portuguese T9???
I've been searching the net but no luck so far...
thank's a lot everyone
You mean T9 like when a key has 3 letters on it? Or just an autocomplete of the words.
Because the autocomplete is the MAJOR problem I have when using WWE ROMs. I lose all the ability to have the words corrected and auto completed because the keyboards only shows words in English as an option.
One of the best keyboards I found is Fingerkeyboard2, but is does not supports T9. Only Windows Mobile word suggestions. I've seen samsung Omnia keyboards (that have a layout with 2 letters on the same key) but I don't know the names of those keyboards.
Hello,
I am planning on buying a HTC 8X with Windows Phone 8. As a previous Windows Phone 7.8 user (I own the HTC Trophy), I have a question about the display and keyboard language on my new phone.
My question is, if the device I buy is the German Vodafone version can I add the Greek language (my native) even if it is not listed in the languages list?
Another question is, if there is no way to add Greek language as the display language, is there a way to add just the greek keyboard so that I can write greek?
Thank you in advance

with WP8 only in settings you can add available keyboards
My unlocked german Lumia 920 allows me to install the greek keyboard under Settings / Keyboard
As for UI language I can't tell as they decided to write language names in the UI selection in the countries letters and there's quite some that I can't read. How would you write "Greek" in greek?

Well, Greece in Greek is 'Ελλάδα' (Hellada) or sometimes 'Ἑλλάς' (Hellas).
Perhaps somebody can inform me if it's possible to install extra languages but retain a certain (fixed) keyboard lay-out.
That is to say, I tend to converse in English, Dutch and German all the time and sometimes in French. I would like to be able to install these dictionaries and use the languages interchangeably, but keeping all the same QWERTY-layout all the time.
In other words: when I write something in German, I want the keyboard to retain the US-style QWERTY-layout that in standard in the Netherlands, rather than the QWERTZ-layout that is standard in the German-speaking countries. Similarly, the keyboard shouldn't switch to AZERTY when writing something in French.
This piece of information I haven't been able to find out from the documentation on-line. Because utilities such as Swype and especially SwiftKey do not exist for Windows Phone (yet?) it's something I'd like to know before I make the plunge.
