How to remove logos and branding from the Diamond? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hey guys,
I really to remove some of my phone carrier's branding from underneath the word "start" and also in the main navigation menu.
Which is the easiest way to go about doing this?
Andrew

Hi,
simply flash a ROM of your choice and you'll get rid of all brandings.
Regards,
Zuzler

That's the HardSPL that you updated, it allows you to flash any ROM. Now you need to actually flash the ROM. You can go for a cooked one or just the HTC WWE ship version, neither will have carrier branding.
List of ROMs here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=400411

That link is pretty old.....

Ok guys, I tried downloading HTC's latest rom - (released 27th Feb 2009, on this site.. found here) - and when it prompts me to enter my serial number I do so, and get this message..
"Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device".
Eeek. Am I living in the wrong location or what?
EDIT: I see that my phone is branded incorrectly for this. Damn..

HTC TyTn II Aussie ROM?

Firstly...I'm with 3 in Australia
Ok, bought a TYTN II off ebay some months ago now from a Hong Kong dealer (that'll learn me) and it seems to not work with the 3G network here in Australia. The phone is always EDGE roaming and whenever it switches to 3G I can't send or receive SMS messages.
I've done some reading around and found that maybe I need to flash the ROM of the phone to an Australian one so that the phone will work properly. I found a thread on Whirlpool and someone there posted a link to this ROM for another user:
www.mediafire.com/?0jt1cwyx61g
Is that the ROM I want? If so, how do I go about flashing my phone with this ROM to make it work?
Can anyone help me??
You're more than likely having issues with the radio that came with the phone. Go to the ROM development forum, read how to unlock, install HardSPL, etc.. and then choose either one of the ROMs that come with a new radio available: NATF, Hyperdragon, Dutty's, etc... or look at one of the threads that show how to install a new radio. I'm not going to make any ROM recommendations, because it's really a matter of personal taste and how the ROM feels to you. For me personally, I've settled on T.i.R vk8 WWE build 19971. And I have radio version 1.58.25.17.
Hey dude,
congrats on the kick-ass new phone.
To help you with your prob, you'll have to signup and login to HTC E-Club for Australia, then download and flash the latest 3 ROM. Its the only way to ensure you have the correct inbuilt three network settings, there was a cab floating around a while back but it didn't include planet3 connectivity - only mobile internet.
look for this one :
HTC TyTN II WM6.1 ROM code for Hutchison ‘3’ Network customers
ROM version: 3.29.861.0
ROM date: 05/15/08
Radio version: 1.65.16.25
Protocol version: 25.83.40.02H
Date: 2008-06-02 Category: ROM Upgrade
I found the ROM development page and the list of radios that relate to the specific ROM's match the ones I already have (note: I already flashed my phone using the one in the link I provided in my first post).
I went and registered for HTC E-Club and went to download the WM6.1 ROM u mentioned Sanchez and when I entered the Serial Number it says the ROM is unsuitable for my phone. Is this because it is NOT an Australian phone?
Would this ROM actually work on my phone and would I be able to get a copy of it from somewhere else?
yeah, its not the actual ROM so much as the stuff Three bundle within that you need.
I'm aka Dr.Nerdlinger on whirlpool, a guy I recommended this to didn't have any problems, seemed to make his US Tilt into an Aussie Three TyTnII.. Havent tried it myself as Im already three branded.

Damn! Sorry...
The ROM I posted the link to doesn't ask me for a "serial" when I've flashed it..
I assume you have run the Connection Setup wizard (Settings > Connections > Connection Setup?
Have you tried to manually enter 3's settings?
Perhaps flash the latest Hyperdragon III http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397121
It has a suitable radio for Australia and I flashed this recently on a TyTn II purchased in Malaysia and all worked fine (as did the ROM I referred to earlier)
Ok but to flash to that (being a cooked ROM) dont I have to do something before I can flash to that? Is it HardSPL I have to install or something like that?
Yes... Unlock and flash a hard spl...
It is quite easy
Excellent directions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356895
I am in no way an expert with these devices but I have had no problem that hasn't been quickly resolved.
perhaps unlocking the phone may resolve your problem with flashing the 3 shipped ROM.... (again, no expert here)
Ok seems this is not gonna work. I've done some reading and apparently the board it to blame for my phone not working properly. Since it was an eBay job (but from a company) I can still get warranty but I have to send overseas to HK.
What do people think, I can buy a new TytnII for $659 and when the old one comes back from warranty I can sell it. Would the new one (if I bought from Australian store) work on 3G?
Unless it's faulty hardware, it shouldn't need a return. Don't spend your cash just yet
Try this new official 3.34.721.2 WWE HTC rom, with 1.70 radio.
Download it, plug your activesync cable in, run the exe file you downloaded - after 20 mins or so, you should have the latest ROM, with built in Aus Three Network detection (assuming you have a legal 3 sim-card)
(ps. it may seem like its stalled while flashing, but just give it time)
Report back if successful
Downloaded and installed last night - doesnt seem to have made any difference
sigh...

After Flashing a ROM you should always hard reset the device as well. After all this is done, what versions of the following are showing as being installed: ROM, Radio, SPL (can find the last one in the tri colour boot screen - read the wiki if you need to know how to get to the boot screen)? If all of this is showing correctly and you're still having problems then it's probably something like the sim (just any old sim won't do and it needs to be compatible with the phone). You could try another if you have a spare. When you switched it on, after a minute or so did you get a message popping up asking if you wanted to automatically configure the phone for your networks settings?

Orange Branded HTC Touch Diamond ROM Update?

Hi
Basically i just tried to download the latest ROM from HTC support and it wouldn't let me, kept saying "not suitable for your handset" after i put in my serial number. Basically e-mailed the support and they say that because my handset is orange branded, that I cannot download it from them. I have recently found another way to download the ROM, but in the email it said that orange may have made har or software changes to the phone. Will this mean that the ROM will not work? Have not yet tried for fear of bricking my phone!!!
Thanks
will most likely Brick it.
its the SPL that controls what ROMs you can flash.
That sucks.... my phone hasnt been updated yet, and is still pretty slow!
Cheers for the reply!
you can always flash a Hard SPL (i believe 1.37 is the preferred one).
you can flash back to the original ROM and SPL for warrenty reasons... i'd suggest making a note of the existing SPL version (can be found in Bootloader - Soft reset and Vol Down button).
Just checked, my SPL is 1.37.0000, does that mean I can update?
Orange have their own version of the latest 1.93 rom
It has MINIMAL changes - mainly the auto set up of Orange data etc
It's really fast and stable
Give that a try
You can dowload an up to date ROM from the Orange (UK) website - I downloaded it a few weeks ago. It is version 1.93.405.1. It works much better and quicker and has no Orange specific branding. Why not go for that one as then your warranty will not be affected
Hi, could you link that ROM, please?
Can't find it on the website.
Many thanks.
Here it is, enjoy it before Orange push out 1.97:

SIM Unlock help...

Hi all,
I had an O2 XDA Stellar which I believe is the HTC TYTN II. However, this phone was stolen a couple of weeks back. I purchased a second hand one today which is sim locked to the orange network. I managed to break the lock by following the instructions on this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835. I followed the instructions word for word till step 5.
The problem is now though it accepts the SIM and I can dial out, I don't have any audio on the calls So I can call and my phone also rings when I receive a call but I can't hear the caller nor can I be heard at the other end
Also, I hate the orange rom (and I used to complain about the O2 rom) and I wish to use the default HTC WM 6.1 professional upgrade the problem again is that it asks for a serial number and my serial number starts with DCOxxxxxxxxxxx and it says that this is not a valid serial number
What do I do now? Has my phone become a brick Please do help I can't bear the thought of having one stolen and the other toasted by me
All help will be greatly appreciated

Did you actually read anything or did you just start hacking away ? I will cut and paste a few items out of that thread, so that you don't have to actually read it .
PLEASE READ THE *FAQ* BEFORE FLASHING OR ASKING QUESTIONS!!!
* IF YOU DONT NEED TO FLASH A NEW ROM THEN PROCEED TO STEP 6 TO PUT YOUR DESIRED RADIO BACK*
7. After I flash a Rom I dont have any sound in calls and the camera is black
The Radio has to match the version of Rom you flash i.e. WM6.1, an incorrect Radio will give sound and camera problems. Read The Ultimate Radio Thread to find a Radio that matches the Rom there are lots to try on there if one doesnt work then try another.
3. What are the different types of Unlock?[/B] (answer by DaveShaw)
The three stages of unlock are:
SIM: Allows you to use SIM's from another carrier. Can be done using codes or unlocker programs on xda-devs.
Security: Allows you to flash radios from another device - It does other stuff, but this is all the casual user will use it for
CID: CID unlocking is an old concept, nowadays you flash HardSPL instead. This lets you flash any ROM, Splash or Radio (depending on sec unlock) to your device. N.B. the CID is the carrier ID (e.g. HTC__001). The stock SPL's only let you flash ROM's that match the CID in the ROM image with the CID on your device.
Obviously you did not unlock your phone if a serial number is needed to flash a new rom. I would re read everything and do it again
Thanks for the reply

I've been through this link as well and I was contemplating installing the latest version of the HTC WM6.1 ROMS (version 3.34.721.2, radio version 1.70.19.09) available at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_ROMs However I was not sure if this would be ok and (at the risk of sounding extremely dumb) I was not sure what WWE stood for

I maintained the default that was given by the unlocker for the CID (I think all zeros). Do I have to change this as per the ROM image? I don't mind re-doing this again it's a relief that my device isn't busted
No your phone isn't busted. Go into bootloader and check what it says next to spl, if you followed Mark's steps, it should say 3.29 Hard. If that is what it says ,then you can flash any Kaiser rom you want. If it doesn't then start over again.
WWE stands for World Wide English and those roms are all in English. That rom you picked will be fine, if you do not wish to explore the fine world of custom roms ? Maybe later.
You only have to CID unlock once by following the steps, not at every rom flash.
No sound means wrong radio, 6.0 roms need 6.0 radios and 6.1 roms need 6.1 radios. If the rom has a radio in it already then flash away.
Thanks Denco Flashed the ones I mentioned and it works perfect. Can't believe I actually have a working device Thanks for all your help, really great.
Now to sync my data to my new (second hand) htc and I'm good to go
Another question, the device works fine, however since it is a HK rom, it seems to have localised to HK. I've changed this as much as possible to UK. However, I'm wondering if this will affect anything else? For example the gps? Is there any quicker way to configure this globally so all settings use UK instead of HK?
Why didn't you flash the latest UK ROM.

Once you are unlocked and HardSpl'd you can flash any rom you want. Pick a UK one another WWE rom or a custom rom. Test a bunch until you have one you like. Your only restriction is it has to be a Kaiser rom. And with all the Kaiser roms available, it is not a restriction at all.

1. I keep hearing on this forum about Hard SPL, I'm not sure what this is used for or why it is required but I followed the instructions and it seems I had installed JumpSPL1.56-KAIS.exe. Now, since then I had flashed the rom, so do I need to reinstall this again? Is there some other one I should be using? I come across different versions on some threads. Also, how can I check the version of HardSPL I have?
2. When I view the memory (under settings) it shows me Storage and Program. However, I can't seem to see any storage area in file explorer. I know in my old xda 2i, there used to be a separate storage area. The reason is because some of the apps I install are quite bulky for example lexisgoo english dictionary (the dictionary files themselves are about 18mb) and this fills up the main memory. How can I install this in the storage memory? (not storage card since I sometimes swap storage cards)
Sorry lot of questions I know, but I'm a newbie and all help will be greatly appreciated
The UK downloaded ROM will install the radio too.
I would do a bit of testing with your current set-up, then flash the UK ROM.
Test the new UK ROM & radio & then reflash the radio only if you want (do some searching on Radio versions)
Newer versions are not always best, chasing the latest builds normally bites you in the ass at the end of the day.
Check HardSPL by going into bootloader:
* Using a stylus, press and hold the soft reset button at the bottom of the phone along with the camera button
* Release both buttons once the bootloader screen appears
* Exit bootloader by pressing soft reset button
Once you have installed HardSPL thats it, job done (you installed it during unlocking)
What you see in file explorer regarding storage is correct: 128MB RAM for running software ect & 256MB ROM for storing your programs ect (WM2003SE was different)
ROM can be increased by using one of the cooked lite ROMs if storage space is a concern.

I've attached a screenshot of my memory screen. The bit that puzzles me is that the storage area apparently has a lot more storage but I do not have an option to install all my applications on that area or atleast the bulky ones. I don't think I need a lite one since I do have 112MB free in the storage area which is more than sufficient for all the apps I usually install. Can you advise how I can install apps to the storage area as well?
Lastly, I was wondering if it is possible for me install my apps on the rom and then kind of take an image of my setup and flash the rom with this setup. That way when I do a hard reset, all my apps are installed again. Which will save me the trouble I know sprite backup does something like this but I'd prefer if it was in the rom
Thanks for all your help, it has given me a lot of confidence in these matters. Something I probably wouldn't have attempted

I agree 101% and it appears fewer resources are put into ironing out bugs in the WM 6.1 ROMs than the WM 6.0 ones. I replied to fmervin's post in the ROM forums along these lines.
If all is running OK I would stick with your current HardSPL.
When installing your applications choose the option of installing to "Device"
You could install all your apps into a ROM, this would be cooking a ROM & is a complex process.
I would suggest a backup via Sprite or SPB. I use SPB v2.0 build3065 & it works well for me, preference of backup software is a bit of a Marmite scenario, you either love it or hate it.

You can't do that, it is flash memory. It's not like you can partition the hard drive.
But this is the easiest way to get your Apps and settings back after a flash.
Try this Sashimi Auto installer by a former XDA member. It is a nice little program that installs all your apps after a flash

Help Please
Hey Denco..Than'x for considering my thread & giving out suggestion towards the link to check the info. But i m really nt that techy afterall so i can burn a ROM on my Tytn II. Even though i tried to burn a RUU rom that supports TyTN II ..Its just gets disconnected from USB mode..So i was looking forward to start it initially with some comparatively easier to install .cab files..Can't these RUU files be transformed into .cab files or maybe some other version of Manila 3D cab file that is completely fixed...I seriously have done a lot of research upon this but nothing looks like working. So please if you have some links to .cab files that can give a better & different look to my Kaiser running Windows 6.1...It'l be a great help !!
Than'x & regards in advance

I think you need to decide what it is that you want to accomplish. Unless you cook your own rom, there is no way to add apps to the rom ( so that they will remain after a hard reset) Your rom is wyour phone's base operating system, it contains your OS (WM 6.1 ) and can only be replaced after completely erasing and replacing all files from the previous rom.
If it is a new rom you want, pick a rom that interests you and follow these instructions verbatim .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835
Your phone will go to the bootloader screen ( three color) and it will disconnect from usb during the process, but be patient until the end. When it says it takes ten minutes, it takes ten minutes. Leave the room if you have to , to keep from getting impatient.
If you just want to keep your OEM WM 6.1 and keep it simple, but change the look of your phone try this,
http://www.htcwiki.com/page/Manila+2D+and+M2D+Themes
This will change the look and feel of your phone with uninstallable .cab files and will not affect the rom or brick your phone by accident.

Recovering a harrier device

Ok, so I tried installing the WM6 rom on my device without knowing it was in fact a Harrier and not a Blue Angel. I now realize I was very stupid in doing this. Now when it boots I get the stripes on the screen and "No GSM, D 5.60.00 WWE" written in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Does any one have an original Harrier rom they could upload so I can flash it back to the original WM2003?
If no one has that, is there a way to copy the rom from another, identical device?
xplode has a great firmware archive, where you can find about any original shipped rom, for the harrier, you find it here: http://firmware.atspace.com/Harrier.html
Thanks Chef_Tony. Thats got it working again perfectly.
i have the same problem it now says no gsm ....
what software do i need to make it work again ?
thx

Again, find your carrier (I'm assuming that the phone was running the official ROM that it shipped with for your carrier) in that list and download the latest one available. No one can tell you which one to download as no one else but you knows who your carrier is.
The radio version doesn't matter in this situation as the OS is coded to deal with a CDMA radio stack, and most, if not all, official ROM flashers will flash the radio stack with the OS. You are going to have to flash it back to whatever OS and build (usually WM2003 for the Harrier) is provided in the archive. If there are multiple versions of the ROM/radio available, generally the newer ones are the better ones.
You shouldn't need anything special for this as you will be flashing the official ROM for the phone. Download, run the executable and follow the on screen instructions.
ok ive downloaded all from these links and it tells me each flash ..
the rom image is not designed for your device . error code is wrong country code !!
i tried simunlock and now have no gsm showing in boot .
it was on uk orange network the phone is spv m2000
thx
well, your device is a blueangel, this thread is about the harrier. it deals with people trying to recover their CDMA devices after a bad flash, you have a GSM device, a completely different phone, and also, the source of your problem is not the same. thank god, the flash did not work, or your phone would be bricked for good.
you need to do a completely different procedure:
1. you go to xplode's BLUEANGEL firmware archive at http://firmware.atspace.com/Blueangel.html and download any rom in your language / from your country. then you put your device into bootloader mode and flash the device using maupgradeut_noid, found here: http://rapidshare.com/files/322928773/Chef_Tony_RUU.zip
2. then, when you have wm2003 back, please post back for further steps to go.
thank you i will do as you said and report back thx mate , ps are you realy a chef because i am lol i have been a chef around 26 years.
ok downloaded the orange uk but its file is corrupt so executable failed ...
looks like im not going to win ..
tried other orange uk files further down the list but still says country error code.
yes, the country id error is the reason, why you need to extract the 40mb exe file, put maupgrade in there, from the link i provided earlier, another thing to avoid the country id error, is to put the device into bootloader mode before starting the upgrade process, so, before you put the blueangel into the cradle, you press record+power+reset, until the display shows "Serial" and "V2.0x" where x is a number from 5 to 7, then you connect the device and start maupgradeut_noid.exe, which has to be in the same folder as the nk.nbf and all the other needed files. using the maupgrade instead of the BAupgrade and using the bootloader mode avoids nearly all the errors, like country id, device id and so on.
EDIT: btw. i am not a chef, i am a system administrator, the avatar and username are just my regular online name, named after the most ridiculous chef on american tv ^^

Tony is right, your phone would have been bricked.
For future reference, when you post, make sure to list your carrier and the exact model of phone. Anyone in these forums needs this info to attempt to offer the correct information to help.
In my posts, as Tony mentioned, this thread was dealing with Harriers, the CDMA version of the Blue Angel. When you jumped in, I thought that you were talking about a Harrier as well.
Keep in mind that each phone has it's specific ROM designed for that single model of phone alone, they are not interchangeable.
