Beware of S2U2 - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

If you value your productivity, beware of S2U2.
S2U2 works fine most of the time. My problems began when my screen stopped responding. All of a sudden, there was no way to get into the system. I had set up S2U2 to lock automatically, and just a few days before the screen stopped responding, coincidentally, S2U2 began to act up as well, locking the screen as the phone booted up.
Here I am, without touch screen capability, S2U2 booting up right at the start and no way to get into the system since I cannot use the slider.
Finally, I got in by using the Hard keys Windows+File Manager. I deleted the S2U2 directory so that the OS would not find the program next time it started. Next, I used "Remove Programs" to remove S2U2, but strangely, the progam refuses to be removed and continues to hang around like a bad egg, even though persona non grata.
I can't edit the registry either, and S2U2 tries to launch automatically each time I reboot the phone. What's more, when it cannot (since I renamed the folder), it eats up resources in the background and the phone literally comes to a crawl.
Is there any way to get this freebie off my phone? Removing the program doesn't do it. The phone still tries to launch S2U2 each time. PHM Regedit is no help without a touch-screen interface.
Any way to proceed? Thanks in advance.

Hard reset.
Did you install the latest S2U2 (v1.52)? I've never had any of the problems you listed before.

Nothing to do with version of S2U2
I don't believe it has anything to do with the version of S2U2 installed. The scenario I've described applies when the touchscreen stops responding. Since the only way to unlock S2U2 is via the touch slider (or at least I appear to have configured it that way), I'm effectively shut out of the phone except through a hard key such as Windows+File Manager (the other hard keys do not work).
Of course, much of my remaining touch-screen only software is by and large crippled, including PHM Regedit and MemMaid. Except for a notably well-designed Pocket Informant which provides excellent keyboard shortcuts and the native HTC programs which are also quite keyboard-responsive, most functionality in almost all the software I've installed is hosed.
Seems to me manufacturers should incorporate good keyboard shortcuts in all their touch-screen based software for just such eventualities as the touchscreen going dead, much like Pocket Informant has done.
S2U2 MUST incorporate this functionality, seeing as it is the gateway to the phone. Some kind of keyboard method to gain access must be provided, and not just the screen slider.

Why not posting that in the S2U2 development thread?

I have never had this problem on my device and I have been using S2U2 since version 1.22. I now have the latest which is v1.52. Never had this problem.
There is a setting in S2U2 which enables d-pad control as well, which I use as I hate touching the screen with my fingers.
There is also a neat commercial app called SafeMode and I believe that there is a similar freeware app. SK Tools would be your best bet to completely remove any app.
Finally, I do not believe that this is an S2U2 problem at all.

Not merely an S2U2 problem
I agree it is not just an S2U2 problem, but a problem for all software that uses a touchscreen. However, S2U2 is special since it locks the phone. The Slider Only setting is dangerous. By default, the D-PAD control should always be enabled and not allowed to be disabled.
It's always safer to have a spare key to a lock!

I have Memmaid. Problem is, once the touch screen stops responding, most Memmaid features cannot be accessed using the keyboard. Including the "Uninstall" function.
WM software should be designed keeping multiple and alternate user interface methods in mind as a backup. Take Pocket Informant. I continue to use most of its functionality to maintain my contacts and schedules even though some of its few touch-screen only features are now inaccesible.

why don't you hook up your tilt to the pc, start active sync, install MyMobiler (tool for remote controlling the pocket pc, its free).
next, rename the s2u2 folder so it can start on reboot, reboot your device... unlock it using mymobiler (it sends the mouse movements to your ppc so you a unresponsive touchscreen doens't matter) and uninstall it afterwards. that should work fine.

You had a hardware failure. You did not set the available options to use the dpad. Your fault.
This is a strongly worded thread, and is nonsense.

I agree , 100's 1000's maybe 10's of thousands of people use A__C's program with no problems whatsoever, I am one of them. If you did not set it up right, which you obviously didn't, that is your fault, not his.
He spends his time and resources making it better with new releases, not making it idiot proof,( a saying, no offense meant )
Starting a new thread , to trash a guy's program ( a program, as I said, that works great for 1000's of others ) gives you very little , if any , credibility at all.
Maybe you should go over to A-C's S2U2 thread in development and hacking, and try to work out the problems " you " are having with S2U2, with him in the appropriate thread, instead of starting a new thread to trash the work of a fellow member.

It is meant to be a strongly worded thread
Any software that has the potential to lock you out of your phone should be idiot proof.
I am a software engineer. If I can make the mistake of not setting the dpad control, non software engineers most certainly can. This thread is meant to warn novices before they face a similar situation they may be unable to work their way out of, and not to disparage the writer of the program, who I am sure puts in sincere efforts to build a robust utility.
My real mistake lies in believing that HTC phones are of a high quality. They are not. They are relatively flimsy compared to Nokia. I never had a Nokia screen die on me within a year of purchase as has the HTC Tilt's.

ooooo-kay then!

Wow... ok. My only suggestion here would be to go found your own forum - maybe forum.nokia-developers.com where you can rip apart and disassemble different OS revisions on differing nokia hardware platforms for the betterment of all Nokia users everywhere. Good luck!
oh, and the next time I lock my keys in the car I'll call CNN and trash the car manufacturer instead of owning up to the fact that I screwed up and will have to pay the piper and then move forward knowing that I've learned from my mistake and perfectly willing to let people know that locking your keys in the car sucks out loud - maybe with a post titled "Don't do this!" instead of "ALL CHEVY OWNERS BEWARE!!!"
Bad poster! No Biscuit!!

How about you actually try reading a little bit like how to do a hard-reset without going into Start/Settings/System/ClearStorage because if you honestly haven't done a hard-reset than you can't say your screen died....

If you are a software engineer, then you should know that if you just delete a program's folder, then you have just guaranteed that the program will be very difficult to uninstall. Installers copy programs to storage, create registry entries, place shortcuts, and register uninstall information. By deleting the directory, the uninstaller gets lost.
Granted, the installer subsystem should probably be a bit more robust and be able to take certain scenarios into account. However, it's not S2U2's fault.
And I have experience with a large number of HTC devices. Hell, look at how many smart phones there are that are made by HTC and branded under different names. I've never had anything but a positive experience with their devices. That's including the fact that I spend a lot of time at this site which means I do evil things to my devices on a weekly basis, and still no problems.

I guess as much as A_C tried to make it idiot proof, he obviously didn't succeed.
Having looked at your history of " 26 " posts, and all your, help me sync my phone, help me sync skype contacts, help me load apps onto my phone, help me, my touch screen doesn't work , help me ...help me ...help me threads and A_C's 1000 + posts of helping people and writing great apps, and updating and supporting them and this community, let me be the first to say.........
See ya ! We in the HTC community are going to miss you and all the help that you have provided. All the factual insight you have given us on the programs we use every day. But I guess our loss is Nokia's gain.

Defo
People who scream help all the time often get unheard, not as in heard as in sheep but as in listened to....
Oh i wonder why as when i read the first post it reminded me of working with el noobus students who always say "This doesn't work" so my answer "What have you done?"
Why is it what have you done? instead of what doesn't work........ 99% of all computer issues are user errors 1% is Bill Gates getting back @ you for choosing M$
Anyway i'm talking tosh just like the OP.

poor choice of words indeed i to am a LONG time user of S2U2 and have never had problems, and i've NEVER had problems with HTC products (other than the price) and as far as nokia goes they are good phones if you want something that has LIMITED POTENTIAL/UPGRADABILITY!!!

Touchy, touchy
Sheesh! You guys sure are a a touchy bunch. Here is a well-meaning individual trying to warn you all of a hazardous situation that could cost you hours of productivity, and what do I get? Calls to leave!! How juvenile. I'm glad at least one of you are concerned about productivity and the loss of time such unnecessary lockout entails.
Just out of curiosity, how many of you have D-Pad control enabled on S2U2? Be honest now. And the analogy with losing car keys that someone made earlier just doesn't cut it, buddy. As we all know, car owners are supplied two sets of keys when they purchase a car.
Sure, S2U2 provides the second set (D-pad control). All I'm saying is that it should be enabled by default, with a strong warning to anyone who tries to disable it.
And don't tell me I didn't warn you all if you're locked out of your phone due to screen failure.
I'm just not the 'buy and throw away' type of guy, so I'm not going anywhere. I still have a life to squeeze out of this contraption so I can justify its high cost. And oh, I intend to remain a WM novice! I have no time for amateurish OSes.

I'll try this suggestion

Thanks, I'll try this out. In my case, the time factor is a constraint on how much time I can spend in fixing the phone, but I have no choice, so I'll give it a shot.
Thanks again!!

What would you like to have seen in the TyTnII from your previous phone?

I have an ATT tilt and I upgraded from a T-Mo MDA.
I really like the tilt. I am not having issues with it like I see others are. It seems plenty fast for me (def faster then the MDA, especially when streaming video over the net) and the HSDPA connections are awesome. Put's my work DSL to shame, lol.
But, I was dissapointed in some of the design.
I would have loved for the TYTNII to have Stereo Speakers like the MDA did (those speakers rock, very clear and can get quite loud).
I also would have liked to see a hardware volume button for the TyTnII, having to use the stylus to adjust the volume is a bit annoying if it needs to be done quickly.
The 3.0MP camera works great, but I would have loved it more if it had a Zoom and a Flash (I know it zooms but not in 3.0MP mode). The flash didnt do much for photos unless it was a closeup shot, but that LED came in quite handy as a flashlight every now and then, lol.
Lastly the Stylus Position was a bit annoying at first when the keyboard was open, but I have already gotten used to taking the stylus out first and then sliding the keyboard, which makes things alot simpler. However, keeping the stylus on the right hand side would have made it more comfortable for the majority of users (sorry lefties).
Anyway, these are the only things that bother me about the Tilt. I really like it otherwise and will most likely keep it (still in my 30 day trial) unless T-Mo actually dispatches their HSDPA/3G on Dec 6 and offers a better phone, then I would gladly switch back.
What features do you miss from older HTC devices? It may not help us now but if HTC has scouts on these forums it cant hurt to make note of what we like and dont like.
I have only one complaint with the TyTn II. In my place we do not have 3G so the best we can do is EDGE. However the EDGE connection is slower on the TyTn II than what it used to be on my i-mate Jasjam and later the HTC Touch. On these previous phones I could easily manage 200 kbs but with the TyTn II it is just a max of 100 kbs. I have tested a number of times by swapping SIM's. When I put my SIM in my previous 2 phones I get good EDGE speed but the same SIM in the TyTn II gives about half the speed.
Just hoping that a future ROM will solve the problem.
Well my previous phone was a Palm 750v and i miss a few things actualy.
I miss the threaded SMS application so i found the riped version and installed it but MMS wont work through it. Also i loved how the Palm had a small slider switch at the top of the phone to instantly make it silent or not. That was very convenient. Hmmm what else...
Generaly i found the Palm a lot easier to use for a beginner. I liked how you could do pretty much anything without touching the screen and also everything seemed to be so intuitive. I hardly changed anything to make it suit me. I found myself changing the Kaiser quite a bit on the other hand. But im up to a point now where i really enjoy the Kaiser so i'm not regretting anything. Plus it has a hell of a lot more features that the Palm lacked. Like a better screen, wifi and GPS to name a few.
Oh man you asked for it #1
Alright- I typically use this site SOLEY for reference/assistance/troubleshooting/brainstorming, you get the idea...
And for that, it has been INCREDIBLE! Thank you all!
However, I will now take this incredible opportunity to gripe about how much I hate my new Tilt (Kaiser) vs. my old 8125 (Wizard).
Two days ago, I finally wore the mini USB port solder points out on my Wizard, leaving me with no way to charge my battery other than (and this is what I did) disassembling the Wizard, slipping the port on the charger plug, and holding it defibrillator style against the printed circuit board where it had previously lived. This got me enough juice to make it through the last couple of days, and sync it one last time in order to dump over to my new Tilt. In the last 3 hours with my new Tilt/Kaiser, I have come to these conclusions:
1. The keyboard now slides open in the opposite direction. I officially hate this. On my Wizard, I would slide the keyboard open, browse the web in landscape mode, and use the D-Pad and 2 softkeys between the screen and the D-Pad to navigate. This was beautiful and worked wonderfully. Now, the D-Pad is on the left side (I'm right handed) and not only does this suck balls for my left thumb, but it is compounded by the soft keys which have now migrated farther south (along with the messaging and IE buttons, as if it wasn't bad enough) to make the D-Pad area so freaking congested that even I, with my nimble fingers, have a hard time discerning one button from the next. Roll all this in with the fact that the charging port is still essentially in the same place, and browsing with the keyboard open using the D-Pad with the charger plugged in is essentially MADDENING, while it was *quite* feasible, before.
2. The power button has moved. Why? Top seems like a great place, always was- and what could the congestion issue be? The MicroSD slot has already been moved beneath the D-Pad so the top has to have a little breathing room, I'd think!
3. As mentioned in 1., the messaging and IE buttons have been moved to the D-Pad area. For what reason? This now makes one-handed use to quickly snap messaging/IE open a total pain in the ass, and quick/reliable motions in the D-Pad area HAZARDOUSLY hit or miss. I mean, lets REALLY think about this. 13 buttons in an area about as large as 3 United States postage stamps. WTF?
4. The volume *slider* has been replaced with a wheel. I'm not entirely certain how I feel about this, yet- but already I've noticed a few times that I've *clicked* the wheel and rolled it at the same time, while I can't recall ever sliding the Wizard's slider when trying to click with it. I liked sliding up and holding, or sliding down and holding, as opposed to rolling, and rolling, and rolling... Also, while petty, it's worth mentioning that the profile of the wheel on the Kaiser is *just* slightly larger than the slider on the Wizard. Not really a major issue, but noteworthy.
5. Where's the Comm Manager button that used to be above the volume slider? Oh wait- there is no Comm Manager button anymore- just a PTT button I have absolutely no use for. While I feel certain there's probably a hack/mod out there to permit me to re-map this to Comm Management, I see nothing built in as of this post. Perhaps HTC has assumed we all just leave our Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on all the time (plugged into chargers, of course, as otherwise our batteries would be deceased in no time...)
6. MicroSD? Aww man... I won't rant on this one, as it's just a given that any time I buy a new phone I'll need new cards, but Jesus, man- First it was SD, then it was MiniSD, which I was just starting to actually use in other devices (yay for cross compatibility and the potential to use cards to their max!) when, now, I'm out another 20, 30, 50, WHATEVER, dollars for ANOTHER new card. MicroSD. "Whoopee." Not to mention- what the hell is the deal with this magically gravitational force that's pulling EVERYTHING to the freaking D-Pad!!?? What was wrong with the SD port on top???
7. Voice Dial button. Okay. Now seriously. This is flat out retarded. Finally, we were getting to a point in telecommunications hardware where many devices were actually beginning to sport a dedicated voice dial button, and HTC pulls it off of the Kaiser. ::slaps forehead:: I'm at a loss. Is this, again, because all of us Kaiser users are supposed to be using stereo bluetooth headsets with voice dial buttons integrated on *them*? ::sigh::
8. Black keyboard (almost). This keyboard is AWESOME! Well- permit me to elaborate- the COLORATION, on 30 of the keys, is AWESOME! The silver numeric keys are a complete travesty, and a throwback to a sometimes difficult to read (under certain circumstances) Wizard keyboard. Also, why, exactly, HTC felt the need to move symbols around on the keyboard, coupled with numbers moved around on the keyboard, coupled with entire keys being relocated on the keyboard, I will *never* know. I haven't even checked to see if the Kaiser has the same idiotic keyboard backlight timeout issues that the Wizard had, but if it does, it's going on the list!
9. B = BM. No no, not bowel movement, "BM." Every time in the last few hours I have touched the "b" key, I have been given "bm." I will be wearing out my backspace key quite quickly at this rate. I've already noticed another post which seems to revolve around this issue, but I have been too busy ranting here to actually read *that* open tab. <Update:> That post was about something else (keypresses repeating)- BUT: I'm hoping I simply received a lemon Kaiser with a flakey keyboard, as multiple keys (4-5, actually) result in random additional keypresses, including (most annoyingly) B = B + M, V = V + SPC, and L = L + OK, or some such nonsense... Typing softer/harder doesn't seem to entirely alleviate *or* reproduce the problem. :-( Crap!
10. Tilt. Wow. This is certainly the AT&T "Tilt." Because- the screen tilts! Wait- why? I'm sorry- not to crack on HTC's brilliant ingenuity, but perhaps I was the lucky one of the thousands who simply *never* had any desire whatsoever to tilt the screen of my Wizard for any reason... While this is certainly a snazzy Sidekick-type feature, I have zero use for it, and simply cannot fathom any other reason why AT&T would market this high-powered XDA as a "Tilt" than to directly market-oppose the Sidekick. Oh wait- now I know why it's engineered this way- obsolescence! Surely this thing is bound to snap off in the next 6 months (if I can stomach it's unfriendliness that long)... Just... I don't know- seriously stop and take a few seconds to yourself, and truly think about this amazing device, and then think about the name it was given. Shame on you, AT&T. Shame. What would have been wrong with 8925? 8125 was good enough for Cingular 2 years ago! This "Tilt" business is like branding the Acura NSX the "Acura Car with 4 Wheels!" Nevermind the 400MHz CPU or WM6Pro capabilities, to say the least... Bah, ingenius AT&T marketing... How patronizing- to a device- LMAO!
11. Where's the other speaker? And for that matter, where is this single speakers balls? Were they neutered out with the other speaker? Oh wait- I know- this all comes back to the fact that I'm supposed to be using stereo Bluetooth- thaaaat's right- silly me! Except for- oh- wait- wanting to hear my phone ring across the room. Perhaps HTC never thought of this, but- speaker duplicity lead to much more reliable notification audibility. News flash! When your device is in your holster, pocket, whatever- typically on the Wizard *one* speaker was covered, but another was still revealed. Eureka!
12. Mini-USB? Really? Because it looks like some bizarre, mutated Mini-USB charging/sync port to me... what the hell was the purpose of this, other than to make you do a double-take the first few thousand times you plug a cable into it?
13. Where's my flashlight? I'm a king of successfully using things for their entirely "not-intended" purpose. And the flash on the Wizard? About as useful as a screen door on a submarine when it came to pictures. But looking around an engine compartment? Searching a backpack? Inspecting a PC tower's innards? (The list goes on...) That little "flash" kicked some major ass for an always available flashlight. Goodbye, little flashlight... :-(
These gripes are all primarily hardware related, and I doubt I'll have many SW gripes to append later as I've been using WM6 off and on my Wizard for a few months now, and have markedly few complaints that can't be alleviated with some mild hacking and modding.
Alright, that's all I've got. Again, these were all conditions of the phone publicly present before I purchased it, so I'm not harping on HTC, entirely, just posing the perspective of one DEVOTED Wizard owner who thought he was going to super-upgrade to a Kaiser. At this rate, I'll be soldering my Mini-USB port back onto my Wizard's PCB, or making a reluctant leap to the iPhone. It is *quite* bad ass, but I've absolutely adored my Wizard for over a year and a half (a feat unmatched by any cell phone in the last 10 years, for me... I usually roll over every 5-6 months!) and as anti-establishment and group mentality as I am, slipping over to the iPhone side was something I was trying to avoid!
I would just say the Comm manager button and irda (only used it a couple of times but useful when u encounter people with a Palm or a laptop with no bluetooth.

Yeah, out of everything brought up in this thread so far (by myself and others) the flashlight and the lack of stereo speakers are what I miss the most.

Yeah, my 8125 may have been square and plain looking, but the soft keys were right where they ought to be, and every button was separated enough from others that you could hit the right button easily by feel alone.

I understand the keyboard changes - entering numbers from the top row is not as easy as a phone pad arrangement - but IMHO even the phone pad arrangement is a pain because having to remember to hit the Fn key every time. A dedicated keyboard like the HTC S710 and S730 have would be really nice (yet would still be awkward to use when sliding keyboard is open)

10. Tilt.

I would say that the "tilt" is a marginal feature - I could do without it, but sometimes I use it and it's nice to have, if it holds up OK

Eureka!

The Wizard speakers are pretty darn good for any phone, but I would have settled for the mono speaker if it weren't such a tinny piece of crap!

12. Mini-USB? Really? Because it looks like some bizarre, mutated Mini-USB charging/sync port to me... what the hell was the purpose of this, other than to make you do a double-take the first few thousand times you plug a cable into it?

Yeah, how much of a savings in expense and space is the proprietary 11-pin ExtUSB anyway? I have already tried 2 adapters that didn't fit right - one that stuck in so hard that I had to use pliers to pull it out, and was afraid I might have damaged the contacts on the port.
The 2.5mm socket on the Wizard seems like a dream in comparison, although even it required getting special adaptors or designed products (like the Shure i2c-T headphones and mike, which worked great, and now I'd like to use them on the Tilt but have to find a new adapter that will give me stereo and use of mic)
But 2 different sockets for the 2 functions seems to me to be a safer and more durable hardware solution than the dual function ExtUSB port.

I never used the flashlight for that purpose - I have a JPEG picture that is pure white that I can activate with one tap in Pocket Plus - worked well as a flashlight with the Wizard, and now the Tilt.
I'm glad this thread was started, for airing of gripes RE: fixes to things that weren't broke, simple ergonomic things that could be better, etc.
I would love to see feature like the Nokias have, one click, and you start to type an SMS, now is that so hard to do ?
I previously had a TyTn I, and the only thing I am really missing is the flash. It was very helpfull for me to use my phone as a little flashlight.
I also have now some trouble to get used to the inverted keyboard slid; and I often hold my phone in the wrong way after I used it. But I should be able to overcome this shortcomin really soon.
The power button is also harder to reach; it is a quite good thing I think as in the past I sometime accidentaly started my phone.
I would really like to see the battery life of my old Nokia 6210.
I prefer the keyboard on my Wizard. (Vario 1) and the power switch location.
Other than that I am quite pleased overall with my Kaiser (Vario III)
Oh man you asked for it #2
Miscellaneous afterthought stuff: Belt Holster? Thank goodness I had a Wizard previously, because otherwise I'd be stuck without a holster since HTC doesn't seem to think the Kaiser should come with one (thank you, Wizard accessories!) Infrared? Like many other people who note this, it's not like this is a highly-used hardware feature, but when you've torn the Mini-USB port out of your Wizard, and would like to Beam some files around, (since Bluetooth ActiveSync'ing can be a b**ch!), you're stuck! Headphone jack? Again, as I've seen elsewhere, this new USB port on the Kaiser can support some kind of headphones, I guess, and while that's all fine and great, I kind of liked having independent ports that were a little more universal compatible! Sym for % !?!? Man, this sucks, I use the % symbol a lot, and now I have to utilize the Sym map just to get to it... HTC bungled the Kaiser keyboard, I maintain! How about a little DVorak philosophy even if it was in QWERTY fashion?
-Bertokamus-
I got a belt holster with mine in the HTC box! (They had to change it from the TyTn's orig as it had magnets in it and kept turning the phone on due to the sliding detectors!!)
Yep, we all miss things. Flashlight...etc
I miss a standard earpiece connector so I could power at same time. I know there are 'Y' adaptors out there but its just something else to carry.
You also have to remember that there are differences between the US 'TILT' and the rest of the world's 'Kaisers'
One example is we don't have a 'PTT', I think its where our 'OK' button is to be used in conjunction with the scroll wheel for selecting and closing windows/Apps.
And I notice all our keyboard is dark, non of those silver ones in sight!
IrDA port
I miss the IrDA port more than I thought I would.
I used it to share files with other pda users.
I used it occasionally with a Canon BJ-80 printer.
I sometimes used it for ActiveSync even though it was slow.
Still think the tinny speaker is about the worst backward step, though!
The N95's media functions would have been great. I get more done with the Kaiser on the other hand.

Serious Tilt Problem

Ive Noticed Ever Since Purchasing My Tilt (about 3 Weeks Now) I Have Had To More And More, Have To Sleep On The Couch (my Wifes Doing). Is There A Rom Or Hack For This Problem.
......sorry I Could Not Resist.......
Maybe you should see if there's a CAB available that will remove her. I know there's a Yellow cab ready at all times
Also, see if you can find a registry hack that will disable the annoying capitalizing of every word in your posts. We Don'T Have To Capitalize Every Word Cause It's Annoying, and it wont qualify you for better parking if your CAPS lock is only partially disabled.

I have had the same problem! And it got pretty bad for a few days, until I figured out a solution.
This is a bit complicated so pay very close attention (or you may want to jot these instructions down to refer to later):
1. turn the phone to look at the right side of the unit
2. locate a tiny button with a little red symbol on it. (You may have used this jewel of a button to awake your awesome Kaiser (a.k.a. at&t Tilt) phone when it has fallen asleep (while you got distracted for a few moments).
3. PRESS this button for only 1-second and release. I have learned - through trial and error - that this button also turns OFF the phone. BUT DONT WORRY! It's not really off, its just sleeping and you will still receive calls, text messages and even calendar event reminders (whew I worried about receiving these!).
I know these instructions can be very stressful, but they may have saved my marriage. I would highly consider you trying this procedure at least once an evening (like during meals, when your spouse is trying to communicate with you, and especially (grin) at 1am while your laying in bed browsing the xda-developers forums for all the cool tools, cabs and Roms out there and your wife rolls over and says, "don't you ever put that thing down??!!"

You have to make sure you get the right kind of cab though... It can be confusing because here in the DC area yellow cabs aren't yellow, they are bright orange??? You must be very careful because you must be sure you really want to do that before you run the cab. It is usually very painful, difficult, and expensive to uninstall the wife update. Even then if you manage to partially uninstall the wife, if you have added new devices to your PAN while the wife update was installed then it may take up to 18 years to fully uninstall the wife. It wrecks havoc with your network settings, and often once uninstalled the wife update will often take half of your network resources and permissions with it (sometimes all of them!). Also be very careful of MIL.dll. It often installs itself in the background when the wife update is being installed. MIL.dll is often considered spyware, nagware, and often it falls within both categories, but there is often nothing much that can be done about MIL.dll without uninstalling the wife update. Some feel it is worth starting all over again with just a bare-bones system, but most feel that the benefits of the wife update outweigh the negatives. It is better to live with the occasional problems that the wife update may cause, than to try and remove it.
Try hard reseting her. Hold down both of her soft nipples and stick your stylus in her butt. That should get quick results. haha

LMAO! Maybe you could just install another cab Iv seen around, It's called abitontheside.cab, it can be simply installed without going through all the bother of unstalling the wife update. Just make sure you dont run both at the same time as Iv heard they can conflict with each other.
I bought my wife an iPhone, now she can't say anything because she spends just as much time surfing the web and playing with the other 4 things you can do with an iPhone

The Kaiser Touch screen, let's face it, it's a bit crap

Well it is isn't it? I've been making allowances for the fact that with pretty much everything I try and get my Kaiser to do I start off using my fingers, then get the stylus out and finally resort to sliding out the keyboard. For example, I want to write an SMS, so I press the HTC Action app with the left soft key and press the screen for New SMS, so far so good. But then I want to enter a recipient; no-can-do with the tiny itsy bitsy HTC keyboard, so out comes the stylus, now all's well and good if you're sitting at home but if you're in a train or something forget it, the hardware keyboard is the only way. Now I know other touch keyboards are available but those that I've tried are still fiddly and coupled with the unpredictability of the screen itself, are not up to the job. About that unpredictability, the final straw came for me when a woman in a car park asked me if I'd be kind enough to dial her number because she'd lost her phone somewhere in the car and wanted to check it was there and not in the supermarket. It was a bright sunny day so the first problem I had was that I could hardly see the numbers on the screen, but after cupping one hand round it to shade it I could just about make them out. So she reeled off her number and I attempted to dial, it took three slow attempts, what with the latency and all, before I managed to enter it correctly, at one point it interpreted a 2 as an 8, a 5 I could forgive but an 8? There was no way my thumb was anywhere near the 8. Also, just entering the initial pin number on startup can be a struggle, sometimes the key I've pressed lights up, so I know the kaiser's recognised it, but the * to show the number is entered doesn't show up. Other times the * appears but the key doesn't light up. Sometimes I get two * instead of one. If I'd have had a bog standard hardware keypad then I'd have had the number in first time, in seconds. So anyway, at the risk of being a luddite it seem to me that touchscreens are very pretty and clever and all, but you can't beat hardware buttons for speed and accuracy.
You know - until I got your message I was happy with my tilt - but you have convinced me - You are right!
When I open a word document that is 207 pages long the keyboard on screen covers up a lot of what I can see. An an EXCEL spreadsheet - forget it - when there are over 100 rows and more than 40 columns - you can't see anything hardly.
And when you go to print - well - 'nuff siad there right?
And logging on to a remote computer - well - good grief - I am gonna send this piece of trash right back immediately. Only the iphone for me -man - with that HUGE screen I can see - well- not really much more - maybe if I did all this stuff on my computer I would be happier?

Also, If my Kaiser PDA phone didn't have a touchscreen, than it would be a smartphone.
The fact they original keyboard is terribly small it's true, that's why we have the hardware keyboard, I mean, why buy a Kaiser if you're not gonna use the keyboard? There's plenty other good SIPs like pocketcm, touchpal or even the HTC Touch keypad, which, with xt9 is awesome tbh.
The pin "part" is ofc true, but if you have programs loading at the boot, how can you expect to do it all at once, just wait 10 more seconds for the programs to load and then the pin can be entered.
The sunlight in the screen is indeed a big damn flaw, I can perfectly see my n80 at the sun, but the Kaiser is impossible to read, sometimes I can't even tell if the screen is on or off, cuz you just can't see a thing.
As for the screen "response", well mine works well, I play and type fairly much and I rarely have problems with it, I suggest messing with the "pressure threshold" settings, maybe you have it too high.
I believe I nearly went blind trying to read that rant. He does have a point, but the problems are a bit exagerated.
Why does this type of thread constantly come up? If you don't like the phone, return it, sell it or throw it away and buy one you like. This type of thread has nothing to do with XDA-Developers. Notice the word Developers in the name? Has this thread provided any useful information or has it just added to the mass of useless threads?
i like my touch screen and everything else about my tilt. Now where r those video drivers... (couldn't resist as this is the only flaw imo)

Yes, for the most part I can.
Are you sure that chick at the supermarket lost her phone? Or was she discreetly giving you her phone number and you couldn't type it in? So much for a phone hampering your game.
Man the Kaiser forums are way more fun than the Polaris ones.
To be fair the Kaiser was not designed from the ground up to be finger friendly. Yeah they lack capacitive screens, but I didn't find the Hermes all that bad, neither is the Cruise. The Cruise is a bit better because it's flush, so touching the edges of the screen is much better.
I have no problems with my Touch Screen. With a few tweeks I have got it to a level that works well.
Id like to make a example. Its called consumer research. For instance, when you go to AT&T and are interested in purchasing a Cell Phone, What do you do? Well I for instance, use the product and see if I like it. Now when you go to AT&T you wouldn't just say give me a tilt because it looks cool, at least I would hope not. You use it, take it home and you have 30 days to return it.
There is really no reason why a thread like this should even exist. The kaiser/tilt is a very unique device. I could go on for 10 hours about it. To me the video driver situation is not a problem, i would however like it to respond quicker but I have become used to it, as i don't watch video on it. But this thread is about the touch screen, so out of respect to the originator of this thread ill stay on topic.
Hopefully all of you by now realize the difference between a Resistance and capacitance touch screen, to simplify the Iphone is capacitance the kaiser is a resistance. A resistive has a bunch of resistors under the screen and when pressure is applied the specific area the resistor shorts out making the screen realize the area of the screen to respond to. A capacitance touch screen responds to the biometrics (the electric current we all have in our bodies) so as you run your finger over one of these screens it follows, and is more accurate than a resistance screen.
So when you are at any local wireless store and try the difference between the two devices. Furthermore if your so unhappy with the device that you so decided to purchase then sell it, there is no reason to spend a bunch of money on a device that you are not happy with. I also believe (and again no disrespect to the author of this thread) many people that complain right off the bat about the GUI or the overall performance of this or any other device, is just jumping on a "bandwagon" without knowing all the technical details.
So if your unhappy, you have two options.
1. Keep the device and, tweak it, customize it and make it uniquely yours. and by doing so complimenting the "seniors" and "chiefs" for working so hard to DEVELOP the software to make it better.
2. Return it or sell it and do RESEARCH and buy a device/phone that you are happy with.
P.S. Many people work very hard here creating software to help you, the user. Post's like this can be very disrespectfull to the people that help you.
^^^ touche, i'm sick of reading "my kaiser suxx omg !!one" threads, enough with the *****ing already.
While we all appreciate that the OP is entitled to his own opinions, it's clear to me that the premise of this thread is not going to lead the forum anywhere except to yet another *****fest, which will eventually lead to closing this thread.
Why wait till then...

This phone is driving me nuts

This phone is making me like...crazy!
and this is why:
I synct some playlists to the phone with windows media player 10, suddenly all playlists on my diamond are empty.
When i removed all the playlists on windows media player 10 to sync them again, it deleted all my songs!
now i got all my songs onto the device again, and wanted to alter 1 playlist, it took windows media player 6 minutes, to just alter, replace, 1 pooping playlist!\
Its not possible to remove a playlist created in the touchflo music player itself.
Not able to select it and then delete it.
Half of the icons in the games folder are ****ed up, we already have a thread with solutions(i tried all of them), but none of them worked.
And the performance, even with the tlr rom or whatever the name was, the diamond still goes slow!
And the battery depletes quickly, with auto attach off, and incoming beam off.
Cant receive a file with bluetooth, with incoming beam on or off, it keeps saying my pc is a new device and asks if i want to set a password, no matter if i set a password or not, it goes back to the menu, and still says my pc is a new device
And i used a mod of the diamond tweaks thread, to auto lock my diamond when the screen goed off.
Well, 1/5 times, it autounlocks itself when i turn the screen back on. not good...
And finally, the opera browser is sometimes not doing what i want. sometimes goes to a random place on the page, if i move and let the stylus go, it moves back to that random page, to fix this i need to quit, then restart opera.
This happens about 1/5 times i use opera.
Is this where i payed 481 euro's for...?
Any ideas how to fix this sh!t is welcome, i already did a hard reset to try getting rid of some problems.

theres a whole list of bad things there.
btw: forgot to mention that the diamond stylus made some nasty scratches on the screen when wiping over the screen in opera to scroll page, or goto next photo in touchflo, ect.
Got a protector included for that.
Install a fresh rom, I don't have any of your problems.
I use bluetooth a lot:
Sending files (goes hell fast), don't want to use cable when using .cab files here
For my parrot
For use as a modem (have reached 120kbyte/second) when online with phone!
All flawless.
I have very very good results with HTC's own new rom update via e-club.
TLR nr. 2 was quite buggy at my phone.
GOod luck!

Xperia scares me, mainly because of the unusual screen resolution (dunno how all the apps will handle it) and that also is supposed to be made by HTC...
Maybe Diamond Pro will not suffer from these newborn diseases that my Diamond had - will see...
i think im going for the iphone 3g. will be expensive though...
the touch diamond really disappoints me...

Its not possible to remove a playlist created in the touchflo music player itself.
Not able to select it and then delete it.

Use the hardware buttons beneath the screen. You can navigate to the playlist you want to delete, and hold the 'enter' button to get the menu to get the 'right mouse button menu'.
Using your fingers it is impossible as it automatically selects the playlist if you press it. No menu will pop up.

What do you mean? It will be much cheaper than the Diamond.
I wonder if you're expecting to install applications on that phone, or do any customization...
Mwahahahahahha!!!!
Another Winer! XD
I'd give this post 5/5 for creativity, 6/5 for whining and -1 for usefullness ^^
you can almost FEEEL that you joined only after buying the phone, and I'd guess that it's your first WM one..
Anyway, regarding your problems..
If your phone really is that bad, it's probably broken (pre-production, grey, some dimwit dropped it in the shop or any other reason). In any case, return it by warranty, and get a new one..
Having so many people love this phone, and being able to fix the issues.. and only you and a handful of others run around whining.. Surely it's obvious that it's either a lack of hands.dll or a simple hardware failure..
I mean you should be smart enough to grasp it.... ermm.. right?
Cheers
P.S. Oh, and please don't be offended by this post.. It was mainly inspired by your post anyway, but it was written half-jokingly as I couldn't really answer seriously to that amount of QQ
@ 205_laCoste...
You're my hero.
Had a lot of trouble removing two playlists, but using the hardware buttons solved it right away....
Thank You!
I'm ready to throw my diamond out the window, for pretty much the same reasons. I paid way too much money to have so many problems. And I shouldn't have to flash a new rom. It should be good to go out of the box.
Before I'm also accused of being a whiner, there is a plethora of posts of people having the same problems....with no solutions. The bluetooth issue is a biggie. I tweak my phone to enhance it, but I shouldn't have to be a programmer to simply make it function properly. To suggest that is just arrogant.
There are things that I absolutely love about this phone, but simply as a phone it sucks.
most of the time it is not the fault of the phone but the person
using it.
a lot of people have come here after having a normal phone and
dont understand how to use this one.
treat it more like a computer than a phone.you dont have to be
a programer you just have to know how to read a thread and
follow the directions.
if you have a 1.37 rom you need to upgrade it to a 1.93.
1.37 is crap.okay it shouldnt have been but it was that why
it was upgraded to 1.93.
if you still dont get it then sell the phone.go buy a fruit
phone and get ripped off just like all the other sheep out there.
I have to stand up for nursie here. I've returned my diamond several months ago (yeah, it was driving me nuts) and am happily living with my P750... these offenses are absolutely not necessary and untrue as well as uncritically extolling the device - gee, it's just another PDA

I have to agree, to an extent.
It's generally accepted on here that the Diamond is badly configured out of the box, which is why new users are recommended to flash a new ROM. This is not a good thing, although it's great we have such a good community of chefs to help solve the problem.
What's less well accepted is that much of the HTC software on the Diamond is slow and awkward. I'm talking about TF3D and the HTC dialer in particular, get rid of them and you can make the Diamond a great little phone just like your P750.

I upgraded to 1.93. And I'm quite proficient at reading and researching. I'm also very proficient with current technology. I get it. What you don't get is that a consumer spending big bucks on this phone shouldn't have to resort to advanced tweaks (which I understand, BTW...you won't find me here asking newbie questions) in order to bring the phone up to basic performing standards.
Again.....yours is a fine example of ignorance masking itself as arrogance.

Camera is slow?

Is it everyone or is it only me?
When I use the camera, I feel that the camera only captures about 2-3 seconds after. The camera is very slow too, why is this?
Any tweak to make the camera captures image instantly?
Here's a couple of reg hacks that I use.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Camera\Captparam]
"EnableCapKeyDelay"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Camera\General]
"DisableShutterSound"=dword:00000001
Lock Strength
Hello everyone,
Since I (like most of us, I guess...) don't like others messing up with my personal data, and since a phone is by its handheld nature prone to theft, I started using the "Device Lock" option: The idea was that if I have the bad luck that somebody steals (or even simply messes around) with my TD2, at least he won't be able to see anything inside it, as he will have to hard reset it to access it.
However, I was very underwhelmed when I read somewhere that the type of password I use (simple PIN), is subject to breaking via brute-force attack. This was really bad news for me, since the other type of password (strong alphanumeric) is totally useless, since it is completely cumbersome to use: The phone locks at each power off, so one is obliged to enter 7 characters every time he wants to access his phone, with the added twist that they have to include numbers or punctuation, meaning that the keyboard has also to be switched every time... Especially if you are in hurry (and since this is a phone, there are times that you ARE in a hurry), the alphanumeric keyboard is totally inappropriate...
I would like therefore someone to explain the extent of the vulnerability of the PIN passwordand whether it can be broken by somebody with average knowledge in these things: If it cannot, then I am happy with it, since I do not have any important secrets on my phone, and therefore no world-class hacker will probably have ever any interest in me . If it can though, then there is no need to use Device Lock, anyway...
