turning off wifi notifications?+understanding diff connections. - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

Hello all.
I hate the fact that every time wifi is on it gives me a notification with every wifi available. I would like to leave it on and not have it pop up on the today screen everytime it finds a connection. And "never show this again" doesn't work either.
My other problem is I have no idea what the "connections" "GPRS setting" "USB to PC" "wireless lan" "all the network adapters in "wifi" and "wireless modem" are for and how to use them. Could someone give me a link on what these are for?
btw in my last phone the Nokia N80 I could silence the ring when it came in if there was someone I couldn't answer if for instance I was in a conference, how can I do that with the tilt? Something to silence the call nit hang up..
Any help appreciated

Anyone please?

probably want to start reading the wiki with your first question.

If you want to silence the incoming call you need to have a dialer that features that as an option.

Diable Data Connection Pop-up

I have unlimited data, but have it set up to disconnect after 5 minutes w/o use, for battery life. I HATE it when it pops up saying connecting, every 30 minutes to update Email, weather and such. It always pops up on top of all other programs. I have searched all over and have not found the solution. Any help is appreciated. If I knew what the file was called I would move it that way it wouldn't work, as long as that doesn't cause another problem. Thanks, Kevin
Hey brother. I'll answer before someone flames you. Look here:
I went to google.com
typed in the search box " Disable connection bubble" without the quotes and got this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334718
Tip** anytime you want to look for something for your phone on google attach Kaiser at the end of it. It'll give you links that take you to this site.
Example: Free Games Kaiser
uuuummmmmm..... yea.......... Sounds and notifications. Was that hard or WHAT?
As always thanks for the support. I typed pop up and came up with nothing. I am not the type that asks before looking for the answers myself. I will look at that thread, thank you. XDA is a great forum, it just sucks that some people like to be sarcastic and rude sometimes. I guess it was a typical Monday for everyone else too. Kevin
I've used this option too. Works well.
I get a related pop up which appears to have no 'sound & notification' category. Using Tomtom or Co-pilot, if it uses GPRS to get the latest traffic info, and due to reception conditions, loses its connectivity, I get a pop-up which says there is no dial-up connection and provides 'settings' and 'dismiss' buttons. I'm guessing the handset would attempt dialing a number due to the lack of GPRS connectivity. I haven't been able to find a way of telling the handset to ignore this condition so it doesn't pop-up in the middle of Tomtom and Co-Pilot. Any ideas how to resolve this?
Thanks
Mike
I have been searching for a looooong time for this but no one seemed to have this issue. mtcs, you're the only person who has brought up this issue, so let's persue it. The "Unable to connect" bubble is most annoying when you're navigating and the navigator window pauses unless you press the button dismiss. Very difficult and dangerous when you're driving!!!
Does anyone have a fix?
As the last two stated, the pop up bubble is very annoying when using Navigation software. Sounds and Notifications does work for the pop up bubble that appears while trying to connect to data, but doesnt appear to help the other. Thanks for the help. Kevin

wifi - available network notification

Hi all,
First of all thanks for all the tips I've found here.
I've got this problem. I have unchecked the "Turn on available network notification" checkbox in the settings->connections->wifi menu but these notifications are still raising at the today screen. Even when I hit "Don't show this message again" button it is still notificating me about available wifi networks.
Can you please tell where is the registry key for this, so that I'll check it if it's really turned off?
Thanks & Regards,

Yup I got this issue too - I was just searching to see if anyone posted about it before starting a new post myself.
I hadn't known about the setting in the WiFi menu so have set that now but I must have selected the "Don't show this message again" option about 3 times per day for weeks now!
There must be someway to stop this without having to deactivate WiFi.
I logged on tonight, to make a post asking about that. as couldnt find anything via searching. I'm glad i'm not the only person its annoying.
If i wanna connect to a network, i know how to find available wifi's. I dont need to be notified about loads of secured networks which i will never connect too. Being told only of unsecure ones, that would be more handy.
Driving in small towns it often finds several at the same time from neearby houses
I too have this problem.
I tick the option saying "do not notify" and yet I still get the pop ups when driving through town
I have an XDA Ignito with original ROM, if it makes a difference
still nothing, does this only bother / effect us few people? Just flashed device to another ROM (dutty's) and it still does it on that too.
I have the same issue and I hate it (It works untill a soft reset though!)!
Other issue I have is that is also displays all the sim contacts....after a reboot the setting is and all sim contacts are displayed again
its a problem with all versions of wm.
sim contacts problem is the case with wm6.1

Disabling the annoying 'Cannot connect' notification balloon in Winmo 6.1?

how to do it on winmo 6.1? i tried searching but no results.
the notification is triggered by some programs i think that use internet.
but it is highly annoying..half of the time i keep getting interrupted by it while doing some work.
pls help.
awaiting reply.
Doesn't START--> SETTINGS --> NOTIFICATIONS --> Connection work?
u mean 'sounds and notifications'?
no such option as connections in it
there is one for connection established and connection disconnected (sounds n notifications, events tab), but i don't think these solve the 'cannot connect to XYZ. Dialed modem bla bla. Please restart your device according to manufacturer's specs, etc.'
The only thing i can think of trying is
- if u don't have any need for GPRS settings: remove all connections in settings connections, or
- if you need GPRS settings (and are temporarily using wifi): to go in advanced tab of connections (where u can select which networks you want to use), select a group of settings in both 'settings for internet' and 'settings for work' which don't have a connection.
bit of a manual job though.
hi,
a question..
do u get this notification all the time?
any solution?
i am having this same issue and it is really annoying! i was wondering if u had anyone had any luck on solving this...
Solution . . .
Fist off My first post so drinks on me.
Settings/Sounds & Notifications/Notifications/
On the drop down box "Connection Disconnected" and "Established" Uncheck the "Display message on screen" box for both, click OK . . . Job Done!
Hi Guys,
Sorry for re-opening an old one here.
Having been soooooo pissed off with the world of crap sat nav available for the Desire, I'm back to using my Xperia so I can use TomTom, and to be honest, back on the Xperia is like coming home again
My problem is that this notification will turn off my Xperia if I don't get rid of it in time, and the "Dismiss" box is very small to be wildly stabbing at when driving at 70mph.
I tried the above and the "Display message on screen" box is greyed out for "connection disconnected" one.
Anyone got an idea how to either disable the notification or work around it?
Cheers,
Joe

Do you mean gps or gprs? if your talkin bwt ur gprs its common that a carrier will drop an internet connection when an antenna is full dont worry its not a problem just reconnect
hi
I am talking about GPS....when i connect gps software and it doesnt find a signal it shows that message. i know its not a problem / issue with the phone. i just want to turn that poping messge off as it is annoying and pops up in screen time and again
We are also getting this error message (and we are using GPRS). It has the effect of stopping our application interacting with the internet until the user presses the 'Dismiss' button.
Our application will automatically reconnect when the phone is able to get a GPRS connection. My question is can we stop the message/dialog appearing by capturing the event in our application? (We can't always wait for the user to clear the message)
exactly...its so frustrating clicking that "dismiss" button everytime
Same problem on the HTC Touch Pro.
Same problem here on ATT's stock Rom 1.95.502.5 WWE. It started about two weeks ago when I noticed my phone was dead when I got home from work (which is highly unusual for it to even go below 50% without me running to charge it). I keep noticing "Cannot Connect" bubbles from my [H] data symbol.
Dialed: wap.cingular
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacturer's documentation and try again."

The only way I could get rid of the problem was to do a soft reset with the stylus. About a week ago I got really good and disgusted with it and decided that I was going to try a new radio and see if that helps. I went with 12.12.25.19 and the matching .dll file. After doing that the error seemed to go away for 2-3 days. Now starting this past Friday afternoon I'm back to the constant cannot connect bubbles. I'm not even sure what program is trying to connect because MemMaid says none of them are open except TouchFlo!
At least with the new radio I can go into Settings > Communication and toggle in and out of airplane mode which fixes the problem for 30 minutes at a time.
I don't mind the pop-ups, I mind the fact they prevent my screen from fully going to sleep which is killing my battery life! My screen will dim with the pop-ups but it won't go completely off which gives me about 3-4 hours battery life if I don't check it. Now I'm a compulsive phone-checker (I feel like those crackberry addicts) just to keep turing the screen off!

What is Remote Sim Mode?

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone knows what "Remote Sim Mode" is on Captivate? I recently upgraded to Froyo from android 2.1. I noticed that whenever I turn on my "bluetooth" on my Captivate, the bluetooth icon will show up. If I push the "bluetooth" button again, a message will show up saying that "Remote Sim Mode Activated". I never seen this message on android 2.1.

Google is the internet users best friend. A couple key strokes and some good know-how and you can find anything you want.
I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM SEARCHING FOR REMOTE SIM MODE, THERE WASN'T A CLEAR SEARCH TERM BUT BROKE IT DOWN INTO SMALLER TERMS IN GOOGLE BEING "REMOTE SIM BLUETOOTH".
RESULT:
SIM Access Profile (SAP, SIM, rSAP)
This allows devices such as car phones with built in GSM transceivers to connect to a SIM card in a phone with Bluetooth, thus the car phone itself doesn't require a separate SIM card. This profile is also known as rSAP (remote-SIM-Access-Profile).

Saying "Google is your friend" is a failed attempt at saying "I Don't Know".
So please instead of acting like some prissy tech know it all, why not actually contribute something useful to the conversation instead of getting your jollies off by being a smart ass?
I mean not all of us are some lonely geek sitting in their parents basement getting off on some image board, spouting off memes like they are gospel...
It's people like you that make tech forums like this unbearable when it comes to the sharing of knowledge and information. At the very least if you were so wise and sage, you could have posted a link supplying the answer.
But no, you couldn't even take the time out of your busy trolling to even do that. You have to be all cute and cool and go "Google is your friend".
Yes, Google is our friend, it brought us to this place and met idiots such as yourself. Google is an infinitely better friend than you could ever hope to be.

Ouch, haha. A bit harsh maybe, but well said.
I also had less-than-stellar luck when googling "remote sim mode" when my phone decided to put itself there. Soooo don't hate on us just cause we come here hoping for a little bit more clearly stated answers. :-/
Thanks
It just really irks me because these forums exist for a reason. Yes, I will agree that most people don't take the time to look through the forums. But on the other hand, looking through hundreds of posts can be a bit daunting at times too especially if your a noob which can get discouraging.
It's a forum, not IRC. Instead of cluttering it up with nonsense and bickering... just give the answer or shut up...
Now... with that being said, this is what I have discovered: The Bluetooth remote sim mode has something to do with connecting to your cars Bluetooth receiver so that you can make phone calls from your car to your phone.
Why it automatically comes on after you turn off the Bluetooth radio via the drop down menu is beyond me.
So you open up the drop down menu and you push the module and it comes up with "Deactivate Remote SIM mode?" dialogue box.
Click Yes it ideally turns it off. Click No it cancels out of the dialogue box. Clicking yes however... doesn't seem to do anything anyways which is the problem we all seem to be running into.
So what do we do? Well we can reset our phones. Cognition v2.2Beta8 has a nice little reset option when you long hold down the lock button on the side.
Of course this gets kinda annoying every single time.
All is not lost though. What you can do is this: Go into Settings>Wireless and Network>Bluetooth settings and turn on/off Bluetooth from there.
If Bluetooth is off, you can just turn it on from the drop down menu. However if it is on and you want it off, I would suggest turning it off from the settings menu.
When you uncheck the green checkmark that says "Bluetooth", three things are going to happen. One, your going to turn off the Bluetooth Radio. Two, in the status bar there is going to be a message saying "Remote Sim Mode Activated". Three, and this is what we are trying to accomplish, a small dialogue box is going to pop up on the bottom saying "Remote Sim Mode Deactivated". This is essentially what we want to happen.
I don't know why it works this way. However I have noticed that there are a few quirks in the drop down menu from time to time. Perhaps this is just one of the more prevalent ones.
I hope this helped a bit. I'm not a developer or a programmer, just a modder who likes tweaking and likes to learn from the devs who take a lot of time and effort in to making our devices work better. I also hope that you don't mistake the inconsiderate, idiotic reply of "cappysw10" as the general attitude of people who post on this forum.

I agree, these forums are getting hard to ask and get answers in withlut smart butt comments and flaming. Even when posted in the right place! Its getting out of control. : ( I dont post often, but read ALL the time. Some of us need REAL help. I actualy did Google this very remote sim trouble, found NO good help. Went back to stock. Waiting a real fix.
Little harsh but necessary I guess
I am reaaly not sure what remote similar implies is going on but if I turn my Bluetooth back on and the back off it deactivates

mine acted stupid first time and has been shutting off appopriately since. It still pops up but cancels itself. CoG 9

Hey thanks! Googled remote sim first thing, found out what it was and that it doesn't apply to me. Came to this forum to find an answer and YOU PROVIDED ONE YAY! Not necessarily happy with how the drop-down reacts but knowing how to avoid that annoying message is VERY USEFUL! And I only had to wade through a few message to find your answer! DOUBLE YAY!!
hey all thanks for the thanks! I'm glad that I was able to help a bit with a few observations.
Just a few more before I go, It would seem to me that the entire notifications drop down menu is buggy.
For me, none of the buttons work as they should whether it be WiFi, bluetooth, etc...
Just about all of those functions have to be set in the settings dialogue that I mentioned about before.
I haven't update Cognition in a month now, so he might have gotten to fixing it by now, I cannot say.

Thank you. Best one-liner in a while. I also agree that if a question is asked and your response isn't toward answering the question it's fruitless.
Either answer or don't. I respect either but the taking up of space that doesn't contribute to the solution is useless.
(Much like my response. )
Hope this helps
Idk what causes this or why or how to fix it, BUT if you just turn the bluetooth back on and then off again it deactivates the remote sim. You don't have to do it through the settings, you can use the drop down menu or if u have the control panel widget you can use that. Just on and then off again. Hopefully this will get fix cuz it is annoying to have to push the button two extra times.

Remote Sim Mode
I guess no one actually found out what this is. Just a question did you have your bluetooth connected to your cars bluetooth handsfree? I know I have a handsfree in my car built in, from what I've read on wikipedia it has something to do with the car having a remote connection through the sim card in the phone. Maybe if your phone has the bluetooth on it still has a paired setting for your car and turning it off calls up this remote sim mode thing to show up. I don't know but I believe this is what causes this. When you turn it off and turn it back on it doesn't appear again after you turn the bluetooth back on. I've noticed this only if I connect with the car and turn the bluetooth off on the phone.

Did you not read the thread? It was answered in post #8.
Also it doesn't matter if the phone is synced to your cars handsfree or not. My phone does it when its connected to my car, not connected to my car, sending a file over Bluetooth, really anytime I toggle BT on and off. Its impartial to the situation in which Bluetooth is activated.
